When you disconnect the car battery lots of computer and memory settings are lost. In my car, the radio also locks up and can't be unlocked without an expensive trip to the dealer. This little gadget saves all those memory settings while the big battery is not connected to the car. At the least, this saves you from having to reprogram everything when the battery is hooked up again. In my case, it also saved me the time and money of having the dealer unlock the radio. Caution: in some cars, the cigarette lighter is not connected to the electrical system when the ignition is off. In that case, make sure that you have the ignition in the 'on' position before using this tool and disconnecting the battery. My car has a "live" lighter at all times, so this wasn't an issue for me. Very valuable item.

Works great! I cleaned the battery terminals & didn't have to reprogram the radio stations or set the clock. I'm not sure how this would work on an outlet that doesn't stay on with the engine off though.

Did not work, tried with few brand new batteries and memory was erased once battery was disconnected. Do not recommend!
