I have owned chargers of this same basic design before, and was always a little apprehensive about the apparent fragility of the retracting cable and the sometime reluctance of the retracting mechanism to function correctly, but those potential issues never became a large problem. I also have a similar charger from a different manufacturer. But recently, when the cigarette lighter in my car stopped functioning, neither charger worked in our other car either, even though its lighter works fine. For a while neither charger worked on a wall socket with an adapter, but the GTMax charger started working again and now seems to be okay. I have not tried it in my new car, but a new charger I bought on Amazon seems to work okay in that one.
