Due to the strange limitations of the Zumo 550, this item has limited use with that unit. It can be used to power the unit or recharge the battery without either car or motorcycle base and their respective power cords. Since the 550 requires the use of a base to play music or hear the voice travel cues, this adapter cannot be used for that purpose.

I have owned the Zumo 450 for almost 3 years and use it regularly both in the car, boat and on my touring bike. The original program did not recognize certain roads or facilities so i updated it last year and now it is vastly improved. I even purchased the map memory chip for Europe when we traveled there and used it (hand held) all over Belgium, France and Italy. It was very useful in getting around Paris, Florence and Rome. I even turned it on when traveling on the high speed train in France, sat it by the window until it connected, and it showed where we were and that we were traveling 167 mph to my surprise.More locally I use it to find social events in my rural lake environment in south carolina where some of the houses are really off the beaten path. This unit has a mount available for the car although i bought it for the motorcycle. On the bike I can use it to listen to music and with an 8 gig SD I can put hundreds of songs and innumerable pictures on it to view as i ride along, and the unit will still stop the music and tell me when to turn, so that is fun. This unit is fairly water and shock proof which is important on the bike and boat where it has been rained upon more than once. My previous GPS would have never withstood such treatment. I do recommend updating any of these GPS units over time so they will continue to provide effective service.

The Rapid Car / Auto Travel Charger w/ Tip Exchange for the Garmin Zumo 450 Gomadic Brand does not work with the Zumo 450 motorcycle cradle nor did it work as pictured. It works only when the lower cover of the Zumo is opened. This worked but was very inconvenient and the voice part was inactive. I bought the charger in conjunction with the auto mount. With the charger in the auto mount plug, it doesn't charge the unit (Zumo 450), and there is no sound. The mount came with no plug-in, so it is unusable. In fairness, the charger will charge the unit if plugged into the bottom, but not when plugged into the mount. This is bizarre, but I didn't buy it for the car, so it was no huge inconvenience. But I would have preferred knowing this. The instructions for the charger and the mount separately mention "power connection" but don't say what it is. More bizarre.But Garmin is a top unit. It has not stopped me using it on my motorcycle. That unit is a direct power mount.
