Cheap Battery Replacement Kit for Garmin Nuvi 660 with Installation

The concept of this product is to be able to replace the "non-replaceable" battery in a Garmin nuvi GPS. My Garmin was a nuvi660. As far as the seller and the shipping and the battery condition it was fine. The kit comes with a DVD containing an instructional video. Here is where my problems first began. The DVD didn't play in any of my devices. It was odd that with the DVD came a note saying if it didn't play that the video could be found online. So I did in fact find it online.

I was able to watch the video and pause, rewind, etc. as I proceeded through the steps. I actually had no problem understanding or following the directions even though I sometimes had to watch that particular portion 2 or 3 times to see exactly what was necessary. However, just like someone can tell me precisely how to do a high jump, I may not be able to to perform that act. During one step where you have to barely open something to get to a screw, this little white cable inside the garmin snapped. Game over, and now as well as being out the price of this battery and kit, I have a deceased Garmin.

I will not be buying any more GPS devices since my cell phone can do the same thing, but it really irks me that Garmin doesn't make their better accessible. If one is an electronics expert kits like this are probably okay, but I would recommend sending the Garmin to one of the companies who will change the battery for you. It isn't that much more than purchasing this kit and it is a whole lot less than sending the device to Garmin to change the battery ... in fact it costs nearly as much to have Garmin replace the battery as it does to just purchase a new Garmin.

The tools are to small for the screws and rolled over every screw. Screw drivers a so small you can't hold them tight enough to even come close to turning a screw. Don't know if the battery works or not. Trashed the unit trying to take apart.

Maybe the company can sent me a used one to replace the one their tools recked.

Save your money and buy a used one if you really need a 8 year old GPS.

The battery is excellent. The procedure for battery replacement is fairly complicated and care must be taken. That being said, the instruction on the enclosed DVD or on YouTube are very detailed and excellent.

The video was not detailed enough to keep even a knowledgeable techie from having a problem. During the removal and installation process it is way too easy to unseat the ribbon connectors and once that happens I found it impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. With more detailed instructions and extreme caution the work could be done; however, I would only recommend it for an accomplished technician.
