First things first, the picture show the Tracer Charge Controller, yet the title said "Renogy 40 Amp MPPT Charge Controller." Well, I needed a 40 Amp Charge Controller and I want the Tracer charge controller, so I bought this to see if this is really a Tracer 40 Amp Charge Controller even though it said "Renogy" and it is in fact sold by "Renogy." When the package arrived, I was so happy. This product is, in fact a Tracer 40 Amp Charge Controller, the same type as this
SainSonic MPPT TRACER 3215RN Solar Charge Controller 30A 12V 24V EP
The only difference between that charge controller and this charge controller is that this is a 40 Amp charge controller (can hold up to 500W of PV for 12V or 1000W for 24V).
The price is just right. The 30 Amp charge controller is around $180-$190 and this 40 Amp is $210. I plug in the PV and battery cables and everything works great. The only thing I haven't checked is the lamp DC output. There are different work modes for the lamp DC output but I don't really use it. I basically bought this charge controller because it's 40 Amp (I can expand on it), it's MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) and the price is right. Here is the summary...
Pro:
Fair price
MPPT technology
Con:
Poor manual
Too large (the dimension is pretty large and it's at about 2 pounds)
Sometimes the charge controller thinks batter is full because of high voltageItem arrived on time and was exactly as described. I installed the unit and it is performing very well. I now have two of these units in operation and am well satisfied. Installation and setup are simple.
