We purchased this in advance of a hurricane and initially charged it with the USB and a computer. Our electricity was out for four days and we used this to keep the Android phone alive. We recharged it in the sun and it worked great too. Just don't put the phone in the sun while you are recharging. It will cause the phone battery to overheat. This item is on our list for the emergency "go bag". It would be good for backpacking if you don't mind the extra weight. Warning-if you don't use mini/ micro USB adapter, then bring your original USB connectable charging cord to use. This item did not recharge an iPad, so if that is what you want, get something else.

Purchased this to charge my phone while out in the desert. The Restore worked wonderfully and performed its job, but the device took a beating from the sun and sand. After about two weeks, the plastic started to warp and the panels started to protrude from the case.

Overall this is probably a great product for camping trips and most standard uses. The electronics work great, the battery charges fairly quickly (never really timed it). The device just isn't durable enough to withstand the stress applied to it in harsher climates over long periods of time.

This is a handy little charger that will be most useful in a grid down scenario. It charges well and holds a charge well in cold weather and is resistant to inclement conditions. A definite go bag item!

This item works great to keep a charge in a multitude of electronics!! Used this where it was hard to charge things but there was plenty of solar power!!
