I needed a dock that works with a case and has audio out. Keep in mind you have to enable the audio-out feature in your phone Menu>Settings>Accessory>AudioOutputMode. It holds my Galaxy Note 2 up at a very upright angle which I like, since at work it would catch the reflections of the overhead fluorescent lights if it rested at a more laid-back angle. There is no option to adjust the angle, although the connector slides back and forward in the base a couple of notches I guess for thicker cases? One note about the fit: in order to allow enough space on the bottom for a case, the connector sits "up" higher than usual. This means if you do not have a case, it won't sit flush on the base of the dock it will essentially rest on the connector and "float" a bit. I don't see that as being a problem, but it is up to you. The connector does have some flex to it, which is good because it won't stress your micro USB port when pulling the device off the dock. Overall I am quite pleased with it, especially for the price.NOTE: After using it awhile, the audio out port sounds poor. It is noticeably duller and quieter than through the phone's own headphone jack. I cannot fault the manufacturer, though reading through reviews of the official Samsung multimedia dock shows that it has the same problem.
NOTE #2: If you are comparing this to the official dock (not the smart one) from Samsung, one important thing to note is that it WILL allow your phone to show up on your computer if you connect it to a USB port instead of to a wall charger. I understand that the official dock will not do this.

I don't usually do reviews, but since there is so many options, I wanted to pass on my experience to help anyone else trying to use this with an S4.First the good, it is adjustable for width of phone and definitely hooks in there that you almost need two hands to remove it from the dock.
Using just the S4 and the dock works fine. No issues there.
Using the S4 with

With the cover above (Wife's) it connects just fine and charges the phone.
Using the S4 with

The case isn't all that big, but it's just to big to make a connection to the dock. If I push down on the phone it makes the connection which tells me it's really close.
There is a pad on the bottom that wraps around the usb connector on the dock that I might be able to pull off and depending on how thick it is, it may make the difference. I'm going to give this one to the wife and I'm unsure on whether or not I will buy another one to test out or try another case.
For me I really wanted to find a case that wraps all 4 corners in a type of rubber to help the bounce. I really wish they made the usb connection a little taller or allowed you to raise or lower just the micro USB on the dock to compensate for cases.
I'll update this review if I get another case or if I buy another dock and tinker with it to get my current S4 with case to fit.

This case does fit in the dock and charges.
I think I'm going to get another dock, but I'm unsure if I'm going to tinker with it to make it fit the Ionic case.
