Both the AC and DC charging elements work well, but you have to pay attention to how long it's charging. I forgot it and left it on for over 12 hours with 4 AA batteries, and when I pulled them were rather hot. Not hot enough to burn you but a lot hotter than when charging normally. I recommend this charger for anyone traveling by car or with access to a 12 VDC cigarette lighter.
