I thought I was taking a chance on this product when I found it at a Black and Decker Outlet store in Michigan. I figured mine is getting old and I should get a spare. However, I soon found that I had gotten very lucky for $40. This tool seems fool-proof (I should know) and does seem to be pretty automatic as stated. As soon as the battery is charged it will reduce the charging amperage on its own. I have not even used all the options yet, but the battery reconditioning function is pretty cool--I've saved one so far that I would have otherwise replaced. Also, the cable storage makes it nice and tidy on the shelf. Remember that to perform a jump-start a car, though, it will only perform the task a few times, then needs four or five minutes to 'recharge' in order to do the jump-start again.

I live on a boat at sea. I've used this charger at least 2,000 times. (Powered by Honda generator) Around the first year the fan went out so I put a cheep fan blowing on it (I think my not having a good "ground" is the culprit fore the fan failure). Around the 4th year the "Charge rate" button became difficult to press so I use a rubber coated piece of something to press that button. After 4+ years of that I fear I may be breaking that button. I have a spare "cave-man" charger, but this charger seems to double the life expectancy of my batteries. (They cost 3X what the charger dose easy.) So now it's been more than 8 years and my fear that button may break compels me to buy a new one (I've owned a dozen different chargers and this one has already lasted many times longer the all the others.)Conclusion: This charger has a few flaws. But money being no obstacle I'm still going to get another one and my batteries increased longevity compels me to give it a full five stars
