After reading great reviews of this on Outdoorgearlab, I bought this for a long bike trip I went on. The size and weight is excellent but it just didn't work reliably. I left it out in the direct sun on multiple attempts to charge. Although this should have charged my phone to full, I could only get 50% or less.

One of the problems is that there isn't enough feedback about the charge state of the battery. There is only one LED on the unit and their instruction manual says it turns from red to green when the battery gets 80% charged. You never really know how much charge is in there. Also, on a few occasions I charged it to green, took it out of the sun, then set it out to keep charging and it started over from red.

It did give my phone partial charges, so if you just need something to casually top off your phone while at the beach, it probably would work fine for you. However, for long trips where there is no access to electricity, reliability and consistency is important. I eventually returned this product. For my next trip, I'll probably try a more expensive panel from a different brand.

it may not be as effective as one of the more expensive ones but I have no complaints. Have used it on several occasions and it charges slow but who cares.

I use my Mercury 4S to charge my GoPro when I go backpacking. I leave the charger in the sun all day at camp while I'm out exploring, and charge up my camera at night. The Mercury 4S will fully charge my GoPro with an empty battery and even has some juice to spare. The charger is well made, easy to use, and super lightweight. The corner grommets make it very easy to attach to a backpack to charge up on the go.

One piece of advice, charge up your Mercury 4S before you leave on a trip. The battery takes about 4 hours to charge, so juicing up before an adventure makes sure you've got power when you need it. Be aware that weather conditions will effect performance. Cloudy conditions mean longer charge up times, but that is to be expected.

I highly recommend this item for anyone who needs to charge up their USB-powered mobile devices (phones, cameras, etc.) on the go. As long as you plan ahead, you'll have a charge whenever you need it.

I've had this his solar charger for a few months now and it charged my G2x Android phone just fine. It works better when you charge the device your charging while the panel is getting a direct charge from the sun. The quality of the unit is well built and folds nicely in a compact form.
