I've been looking for a battery maintainer/charger to hook up to a car that I put in storage during the winter months. I came across this compact gem and was surprised that for the price it is a maintainer, discharger, and tester.
It comes with nice and long cables and is in a very nicely designed box (that appeals to the gear-head in us) with easy to read LCD screen and LED indicators. The cables allow you to hook up to your battery using alligator clips or have a semi-permanent hook-up with a quick disconnect.
All I had to do was hook the cables to it, plug it into a wall-outlet, hook the other end to the battery and that was it. Like the description says, this will not overcharge your battery so you can leave it hooked up indefinitely.
Well worth the purchase.

I have had so many "trickle" chargers or battery maintainers over the years, but by far this is the best yet. Nice small design and great monitoring to analyze things.A bit more than the run of the mill chargers, but most certainly worth the difference. Very highly recommended

Does a great job of , TESTING , Charging and Maintaining batteries, especially the batteries that are not used very often. I use this device on my antique car and also on my garden tractor. Keeps them READY-TO-GO!! Great device & safe!!Honest reviews on Save A Battery 1702 12-Volt Battery Charger Maintainer and Tester
Excellent product. Used Battery Tenders for many years on my motorcycles and old collector cars. Found them to be excellent also. However Save A Battery charger is the only charger that will bring back to life my failing Optima Battery in our 59 Corvette. Long story on this, but again it worked, where the Battery Tender was almost of no use. Also like the voltage readout to give you battery charge status. Highly recommended.,
Good pricing at Amazon. The owner/vendor of the product sets up at major automobile events,,,,Goodguys for example. Sells for a 100 bucks at the shows.

This charger is unique in that it is the only MODULAR system on the market know what you are getting. The comparisons to Optimate 6/Battery Tender Plus being cheaper or more versatile may be true, but those lack features this one has.FEATURES:
For example, you can plug it into the cigarette outlet WITHOUT the A/C connection and it will act as portable voltmeter using the battery for power, displaying your car's system voltage as you are driving. Very handy unless you have 4 hands.
You can also shut off the LCD and turn on the alarm and leave it plugged in to your car indefinitely. If you have a parasitic drain, it will start beeping when the battery voltage gets too low.
FLAWS:
The unit's main flaw is its "discharging" function. It's internal load is weak (only 2A or so) and doesn't stop automatically. You'll have to listen for the low battery beep. (Perhaps it works that way to give you more time to catch it?) Mfg recommends just using the headlights. It does work for testing battery voltage with a small load, though.
Also, there is no manual "start" button. I had a battery flat to 5v and it wouldn't start charging. Perhaps this is intentional, but another charger recovered the battery enough for this one to work. Mfg recommends tapping another 12v source to the leads in parallel to get it going.
BENEFITS:
The manufacturer has great customer support, and are based out of the USA in Silicon Valley. They make computer logic components like SCSI terminators and there is significant attention to detail such as rubber caps and the cords themselves. You can talk to a knowledgeable human within 30 seconds.
I have no complaints about the quality of its charges thus far, but will edit the review if anything changes. Also, the unit is rather pricey I was tempted to get an Optimate 6 for the same price instead. The mfg recently had a sale where their high-end deep-discharge-boat-gel charger (the 9999) was the same price as this; although they recommended not deep discharging regular batteries unless necessary, I would have liked the extra functionality.
FINAL WORDS:
Remember, this is a MODULAR charger that you can carry with you and has high build quality. You supposedly can leave it connected to the battery indefinitely. If it was cheaper, or had extra functionality of the same-price Optimate 6, I would have given it a 5*.
