Interesting little device. Voltmeter is .22 VDC high, no adjustment available. Sample time for DVM is a little slow. Using to keep 100 A/Hr battery "topped off" with two solar panels. Max charging current so far is around 4 Amps which the unit handles very well, no apparent heating, no electrical noise generated. Have it diode isolated and in parallel with AC charger and they both are functioning nicely. Only thing to change would be a terminal strip vs. wires included and adjustment for DVM. The box itself could be rectangular instead of the curved thing it comes in. Would make mounting a lot easier.

A year later.

Have had this in my travel trailer for over a year. Solar panels are rated at 100 watts. Battery is a telecomm battery designed for sitting around on a charger then providing, in this case, up to 100 Amps for about 20 hours when needed. The trailer has not been connected to AC since panels/battery/charge controller installed. The panels have provided enough power and the controller has kept the battery at 13.8 volts the whole time. The max charge current I have seen so far has been about 6 Amps. Not bad for the Pacific North-west.

I have looked inside the controller. The switching devices are wired like MOSFETs and they look like they would max out at 10 Amps. Part numbers on the devices are in-house numbers and impossible to find. I would limit this unit to no more than what I have it doing. i.e., 100 Watt panels. That would keep the charge current at around 8 Amps max.

Recently purchased the Sunforce model 60031 (digital) and very pleased with features that work as described in description. I'm sure my warranty is void now, however was able to open the case and drill a small hole right where the sun icon is located on the front panel (case removed first) and this is the location where the float charge "cut-in" adjustment is made. The trimmer on the right side of the PC board is for adjusting the digital display against a accurate input voltage. Again note, you will be on your own if you open the case.

This Sunforce charge controller was bought as a component for my solar generator and at first, I wasn't sure it was going to work because other charge controllers are more expensive and this one had 10amps. Turns out i had nothing to worry about because the Sunforce can handle my 12 volt system. I was able to mount it straight to the battery box with some nuts and bolts and the fittings that go to the battery were exactly the size I needed.. I'm using n 80W micro-crystalline panel and so far, the controller is delivering a steady and fast charge to my battery. My 110 amphour battery gets charged back from 25% to 100% in about 6 hours. The indicator lights are easy to read and the liquid crystal voltage readout is accurate. The readout only uses 10ma which is good because it stays on all the time.

Here's the fun part. We made a modification on the connections by using a 15 amp 125-Volt 2-Pole Polarized Light-Duty Plug on the panel, and a 15 amp 125-Volt Light-Duty Plug on the controller's input wires. This makes it a snap, literally, to hook up and unhook the generator box from the solar panel so I can roll it inside the house.

First one wouldnt keep the batteries in float charge, caused the batteries to cycle between float and bulk continously. The second one the display did not work out of the box, third one is off by .5 volts in the meter. I will try and fix this one as it appeares to function properly otherwise. There is supposed to be an adjustment inside.

I purchased this in conjunction with a solar panel to keep a charge on the 12 volt batter in my camper. It came packaged nicely and the instructions, while not overly verbose, seemed adequate to the task as there are only 2 wires (each with a negative and a positive terminal) to connect. The wires that connect to the battery are clearly marked positive and negative, so it was easy to figure out which goes where. As for the wires that connect tot he solar panel, one is marked with a red band (indicating it is the positive connection) and the other, by default, the negative. I thus connected it in this fashion and nothing happened. It was as if the solar panel was not seeing any daylight. My first thought was the solar panel was not seeing enough sunlight, however my trusty voltmeter connected to the solar panel quickly proved this wrong the panel was generating close to 20 volts DC (which is what one would expect of this panel in moderate sunlight). I reconnected, and still no luck the charge controller would not charge. In fact, it did not even indicate the presence of the solar panel. Ordinarily I would have returned it at that point, but I needed the controller for a week long camping trip I was leaving on in 2 days, and could not get a replacement in time (I tried believe me). As a last ditch effort, I reversed the positive and negative wires coming out of the charge controller and connected to the solar panel, and voila it worked. So long story short, the wires were mismarked at the manufacturer.

Having made that change, the controller has since worked as expected. So only 3 stars for the mismarked wires.
