There are days when I don't feel very smart.

When I got this unit I wanted to test it so I put the cigarette lighter plug on and plugged it into the car, plugged in my electric drill and then blew the fuse on the cigarette lighter socket.

Dummy, the lighter fuse is only 15 amps.

12 volt system at 15 amps, 12 x 15 = 180watts.

Even if you get a 50 amp fuse, 12 x 50 = 600 watts.

You can't fully use this.

This has to be connected directly to the battery for full use.

Connected directly to the battery works fine.

I give it three stars because it is typical quality of a product made in China--mediocre fit and finish, but it does work. The 2 AC outlets are closer together than a standard home socket, so that could cause problems if you try to plug in more than one wall wart. The outlets are not electrically grounded in any way, but this may true of all inverters since you're just taking DC +/and turning it into AC. There is a fuse soldered in place inside the case, so if for some reason that blows, you are out of luck unless you disassemble the case, desolder the blown fuse, and then resolver a new fuse in its place. To permanently install a fuse is just simply a poor design.

Overall then, it is okay, but not high quality. I thought about giving it 4 stars, the build quality and the oddly soldered fuse don't rate that in my book. See the video to understand about the replaceable fuse being permanently soldered in place.

Comes with cigar adapter and battery clamps. If you try to run over 500w with the cigar adapter you will blow a fuse since most vehicles are not rated to push out that much power. The only way to harness all 1000w is to hook it directly to your battery. Luckily since my car is an AMG my battery is giant and in the trunk. It has brackets so you can mount it and it will not move. Fan can get loud when you have a full load on. Things to remember when buying inverters.

1) Unplug when not in use. Wouldn't want to drain your battery overnight would you?

2) Check to see if the number is Peak or Constant wattage. You want a good constant.

3) Does it come with adapters you need? Cigar and Battery Clamps on this one.

4) Figure out what devices you want to power and check the wattage. Most devices tell you on the power pack or where the plug meets the device. Volts * Amps = Watts (my laptop power pack says 15v and 6amps, which means 90 watts)

5) It's better to buy double the wattage than what you figure you need. That way you aren't running it at it's max and burning the poor thing up. It's like you never being able to walk and always having sprinting everywhere. You'll get overheated and die. Why treat your inverter the same way?

With these 5 simple facts in mind. I hope you find the inverter that suits your needs!

Honest reviews on BESTEK 1000w 12v to 110v inverter power supply 12v battery backup

This thing rocks, power went out I hooked my TV, laptop, and a couple lamps. Not quite as good a a generator, but in a pinch it will work.

We recently had a couple of minor tornadoes (if there is such a thing) race through North Atlanta, and it left us without power for 24-hours. It seemed like an eternity! I was very close to losing about $400 worth of food. I had an inverter that was rated at 275 watts, and tried to use it to power my freezer, but the initial power surge was too strong for too long for that inverter to handle it.

So I bought this inverter with hopes of not only being able to occasionally power my freezer, but also possibly my main fridge in the kitchen during an extended outage. It was not only able to do both, but both at the same time, which is amazing.

The freezer surges to 595W, and then after about 10 seconds drops to 125W where is just hums along. The refrigerator (25cu/ft Frigidaire) surges initially to 705W, and then after about 10 seconds drops to 205W continuous. I measured all of this using a Kill-A-Watt device.

I attached the freezer first and waited until it was only drawing 125W, then attached the fridge. I did this while the inverter was attached directly to my car battery with my car running. When I attached the fridge, the car sounded like it was going to stall, but it recovered and powered everything nicely.

In the event of an actual outage, I would probably just power each appliance individually for 30 minutes or so every 4 hours to keep things cold. I like knowing that this unit provides enough power to be able to handle either appliance, plus run an LCD TV, or some lights, etc.

Great inverter at a great price. If you're struggling with whether to buy a portable gas generator so that you're prepared for extended outages, this unit may prevent you from having to do that. It obviously won't do everything a generator can, but it's a lot cheaper, and can handle a lot of the basics.

After reading the reviews for this I wasn't expecting it to actually work but for the price I had to at least give it a shot. It's been 3 days now and it's still working. I use it everyday on my way to and from work! No issues so far....and I must admit...I love not having the long cord hanging and getting stepped on. I would order it again if it broke tomorrow!

I ordered this car charger in preparation for a week-long road trip; at under 5 dollars it seemed like a pretty good deal, especially considering the fact that my mobile carrier sells the exact same thing for over 30 dollars in their store. The charger arrived in time and I found the design to be very handy but it stopped working after only one use. I plugged it into my car's cigarette lighter, then plugged it into the phone and it initially charged just fine. Two hours later I stopped the car and unplugged the charger, then later that day I got back in the car and plugged the phone into the charger again but nothing happened; the phone didn't recognize it and the battery was not being charged at all. The red light on the charger was still on so I know it was connected properly but it no longer provided any power and I was stuck with a dead phone for much of the trip as a result. I guess you get what you pay for.

Best Deals for Retractable Car Charger (CLA) for Pantech Laser

I purchased this in Jan 2011 to use in my car with my Pantech Laser and so far it has worked just fine. Being retractable, it takes up little space with no cables getting tangled up in the glove box, etc. The retractor works by pushing a button (which blends into the unit so well it's hard to notice) rather than by pulling on the cord and letting it spring back. Charges and retracts just like it's supposed to, so it's 5 stars from me.

My Kargo Kooler arrived damaged in a dented box without any interior packing materials. The lid doors were warped and a little loose, a screw was missing from a hinge, the cheap plastic lid latch did not work properly, and I could not use this cooler vertically as a "refrigerator" because the heavy bottom door sagged badly. Perhaps attaching the heavy cooling unit to a lid door is a design flaw of this model.

The Kargo Kooler arrived a day before a 1600-mile road trip: I tested it en route to the Deep South in April as a chest cooler for exotic cheeses and a frozen pork roast, plugged into a socket in the cargo area of my Subaru Forester. I also splurged for the the optional AC adapter so I could plug it in at hotels. It cooled things superbly, despite lid problems. Yes, it may be a bit noisy in quiet office/home environments, but I did not notice its hum above road noise or the loud blasts of heating/cooling in highway hotel rooms.

My unit was obviously damaged from shipping, so I'm returning it to Amazon for a refund. Just check the lid covers and hinges very closely for damage and/or defects if you order this item.

I liked this enough to give Koolatron a second chance: I just ordered Koolatron's slightly smaller rolling mini-fridge model which may better suit my needs, has an adjustable thermostat, and should tuck away nicely and discreetly under the cargo area blind of my Subaru.

I got this as a sort of "extra" frig for drinks in the summer. However, it freezes up easily and can't be adjusted for temperature. It is lightweight and portable, working well for a drink chest for parties.

Also, the plug in that comes with it was missing. It only plugs into a car outlet--I had to buy the adapter to use it in the house.

Given the choice, I'd probably go with a small refrig that adjusts temperature. However, again, I like the portability of this product.

Best Deals for Koolatron 33 qt. Kargo Kooler

Used this on my road trip, it did great keeping all my food and drinks cold. Even when driving through the hot desert of 90 degree weather, it did cool down below 40 degrees from outside temperature, so it was 50 degrees inside cooler for our food. Warmer does great, can use up to 4 hrs maximum. Either cooler or warmer, plug into 12v lighter when car is running or will drain your car battery. It stays cool when at picnic and cannot plug cooler in.

Only concern is when fans running, its loud inside the car. When driving the road noise blends it out. After awhile you don't even think about it. Not too bulky in the backseat. Easily used seat belts to help hold it down when driving, such as around corners. Greatly recommend this cooler/warmer. My friend had a different brand and didn't work well. This one is a great portable fridge. Plus bought adapter from Amazon.com to use at hotel rooms, plug right in to wall outlet.

Honest reviews on Koolatron 33 qt. Kargo Kooler

The hinge on the door was broken on arrival even though the packaging was not damaged. It seems like the double door concept with the heavy cooler mechanism on the door put a lot of stress on the plastic hinge. Good concept, but poor execution. I had to return it before we could even turn it on....

WE GOT INTO THE TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS AND NEEDED A SMALL FRIDGE TO KEEP DOWN THE COST OF FOOD.. WE HAVE USED THIS KOOLATRON ALMOST STEADY FOR A MONTH NOW. IT KEEPS ON GOING. THE ONLY THING BETTER WOULD BE IF IT WAS VERSITLE TO PLUG INTO CAR AND HOME. WE BOUGHT AN ADAPTER TO TAKE IT INTO MOTELS AND SUCH TO BE ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE.. WE JUST LOVE IT THOUGH. WE RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.

This thing is great. The price on many transformers should leave many wondering if they shouldn't just buy all new appliances-seeing as electric water kettles hog up 1500 watts. Microwaves-1000 watts. An XBOX 360-400 watts. Coffee grinders and refrigerators-300 watts. Flat LCD TVs-200 watts. The price of this transformer removes all those questions. It's the most powerful one I could find and only $115. This qualified for FREE SHIPPING on Amazon, which saved ME $27, but my other friends were quoted as high as $80 other places to ship similar transformers. You can't afford not to get this.

Where I am, there are at least 3 different power standards (US, UK, and the rest of Europe), but I have only US appliances. Everywhere is charging like $150 for a 1000 watt transformer, or $200 for 2000 watt. The place we moved into has only generator-powered British standard, and it trips very easily. I plugged this transformer in just fine when many of my suite mates were having problems with theirs tripping the power. This one did not trip.

There is also no noise. My roommate got a free military transformer though some connections, who knows how old it is? We put it in the corner under thick blankets and it still makes a loud buzzing. With this one, you only hear it for 1 second when you first turn it on, and it is completely silent even under full load. Disclaimer: DO NOT pack insulation or anything like blankets around any transformersJust erring on side of fire and electrical safety. Honestly, this thing is not producing any amount of heat that I can tell.

It has a power selector on the back to switch input from 110V, 200V, 220V, and 240V. Comes with 3 fuses, one in the unit and 2 replacements. Has 2 outputs-one US and one universal.

It has a heavy duty US-style power plug with a ground/earth pin, and comes with a solid-feeling Europe-style plug adapter with grounding/earthing side-leads, but I am using it plugged into a British style "surge protecting" plug adapter with grounding/earthing. I hear transformers aren't meant to be used with surge protectionwhether it's plugging into or being plugged into I don't know. If you need a transformer you need to research this.

This was definitely a lucky first-find and after seeing all the hassles my peers have had with their converters, I'm already thinking of getting another. If they found a good one, they had to pay way more than $115, and many paid more for boxes that shorted after a week. What is it then? Just a heavy door stop.

Also, don't try to replace the fuse with the unit plugged into an active outlet, even if the switch on the unit is OFF. I haven't blown any yet, but I just wanted to check. Anyway, don't ask-let's just say I'm bleedin' out the ears and I may potentially be cured of my crippling depression. Fine, yeah I shocked myself. It didn't feel great. So what? Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?

UPDATE!!-- Since writing this I left my camp and sold this converter. I came back and bought another one. The new one I received produced a noticeable smell from manufacturing but NOT the smell of frying/shorting/stressed electrical equipment I'm somewhat familiar with (unrelated). It slowly went away and was completely unnoticeable after about 2 or 3 weeks. The smell was like heated crayons or something-probably from the enamel finish on the box. I have been using this converter to push mostly a VERY hungry hot water kettle. It was also very expensive and the kettle is still going strong. I also use a big burr-mill style coffee grinder that uses much more power than the spinning blade type. I also keep a very large air purifier running at various speeds all the time. The converter handles all 3 very demanding appliances brilliantly.

We use this to run a treadmill we bought in Europe. With other transformers of comparible size, we found our circuit breaker would shut down when we energized the transformer. But this one has no such issue. There seems to be no impact at all on our electrical system when we energize this. And the treadmill works great.

Bought this machine from Amazon and it worked 3 times and then died. Used a powerful blender, Vita Mix, and was excited that it made perfect smoothies, however; very short lived! After making 3 smoothies in 3 days, the machine just died on me. Checked the fuse and it's alright but changed it anyway just to make sure. Still not working! Very frustrated. Tried a 200w transformer and thank God, the Vita Mix is sluggishly whirring but this tells me that my blender works and not the 3000w transformer. Googled PowerBright and their website is down. Where do you contact the manufacturer for a replacement. It's driving me bananas! Problem is it was bought 3 months from US and we are now in the Middle East.... and this thing is very heavy for shipping. Is it worth is to spend more to ship it that what the product is worth.

Honest reviews on Car Charger for Palm Pixi Cell Phone

This charger was affordably priced and it worked fine for a while, but it didn't take more than a few months of ordinary, gentle use before the connecting wire (apparently at the phone end) to develop a weakness that requires one to hold the connection to the phone with some manual pressure in order to sustain the charging process. This would be a good product if it were built a bit more robustly to last.

Best Music Power 0900-72 Encore Dual Port USB AC Charger Deals

Music Power 0900-72 Encore Dual Port USB AC Charger with Rechargeable Extended Battery
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
The features are excellent, two USB chargers plus battery for recharging without AC. The wall charger works as expected, allowing 2 USB devices to charge, so no waiting for one to finish before plugging in the other. I use this nightly to charge up my mobile phone and Bluetooth headset. The battery does not list it's capacity, not in the documentation and not even on the battery itself. This makes one question how weak it is. I let my phone go completely dead and was able to bring it to a full charge using only the battery, but only once. The battery in the Encore had no juice left, so it is pretty low capacity. Most USB battery based changers can push 2 or 3 recharges, this can do only one. It did work though, so it can help while in the field or airplane. I wish the battery capacity were higher, and wish it was better built (it just feels cheap and cheesy) but the features are good. So far, it does what it says.

EDIT: September 2008

It's been just over a year now. This unit travelled with me for most of that time. It just DIED. It will no longer charge the internal battery, and it will no longer charge either of the 2 USB devices able to be attached to it, even when plugged into the wall. Nothing, completely dead. (NOTE: The battery is fine, it can be charged by another charger, but not this device...) I suspect it is out of warranty as well. What was that about marginal execution? Perhaps that was a bit too generous. (Still great features, maybe a less than marginal execution)

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

This product is truly unique. It has 2 charging ports for simultaneous charging of 2 devices and a "Extended Battery". The extended battery allows for charging or extending use while away from an AC outlet. The other unique feature is that the battery in the Encore is replaceable! I haven't found these feature in competing products.

I have used this device on my shuffle for a few months. I now have an iPhone that I was happy to see it work with. I love the fact that I plug it in and charge up my iPhone with the added benefit of the rechargeable battery in the Encore charging while my phone charges. I keep the musicPower Encore in my computer bag while I'm in the field so I can plug it in to extend play or talk time on my iPhone. So far it seems to offer about 1 hour and 15 minutes of charge time on my iPhone before the Encore battery is exhausted. According to apple spec this could translate into roughly 3 hours of talk time, or 7 hours of music play on the iPhone.

I recently gave a musicPower Encore as a birthday gift to someone who has a Blackberry. I'll be curious to see if the battery in the Blackberry can be charged completely by the battery in the Encore.

This device is versatile, unique, and for the capabilities... affordable.

The Solo and Duet also look compelling if you don't need the extended battery found in the Encore. Those models come in at a lower price point than the Encore while still being cheaper than Apple's $29 charger.

Best Deals for Music Power 0900-72 Encore Dual Port USB AC Charger

I was hesitant purchasing this product based solely on it's looks (how will it compliment my iphone?) and was considering the better looking (and more expensive) APC product. Good thing I went with this.

The biggest difference between this product and everything else is that when you have your device connected (let's say iPod) and you're using it, it actually grabs the power from this product first, not the iPod. Most of the other products will only charge once you stop using your iPod. That means you can enjoy your iPod and have it fully charged at the same time. This has saved my life many times over flying 6-hours from coast to coast.

Also, having the dual USB is awesome. I've now invested in the mini retractable USB cables for my iPhone, Blackberry, Nintendo DS and PSP and have used all of them successfully with this product. I also have them all in a tiny little Muji bag so it's small and convenient.

I'm only giving it 4-stars because it really isn't pretty. But then again, it functions so well, who cares.

UPDATE: 10/11/10: I'm about to purchase my second version of this, it's definitely lasted a long time. The reason being, the battery looks like it's about to explode, it's expanded a great deal. It's probably due to the fact that I constantly fly with it. Anyway, given how long I've had this and how well it works, oh well...

Honest reviews on Music Power 0900-72 Encore Dual Port USB AC Charger

Until now I couldn't get power to my iPod and now iPhone whenever and where-ever I needed it. Now I can. This rechargeable battery and 2 port charger is awesome! I don't have to be connected to my computer or car to operate or charge my devices.

I also discovered that it charges my Blackberry as well! If you are on the go and want to make sure you have the juice for your videos/music/phone this is a cool charger that I highly recommend.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Music Power 0900-72 Encore Dual Port USB AC Charger

Ok, first let me note that five stars represents the value at this price, not quality compared to items running five to ten times the cost. If you pick up one of these under ten bucks, I think it is a good buy. Much lower and it is fantastic.

Ok, specs and details. This unit has two usb 5v 500ma ports for charging and fold-out 110v plugs (not polarized) for wall-charging. It contains one 1650mah 3.7v battery, which is easily replaced if you can find the appropriate replacement part. These are lithium-polymer batteries and I suspect most of the dead units reported here are burnt out batteries.

You can use this to charge two devices simultaneously via battery or wall socket. At 1650mah 3.7v you will be able to charge most smartphones from totally dead to full once (or two devices to about 60%). To compare, a Moto Droid has 1300mah 3.7v, iPhones run closer to 1150mah. Now, if you happen to have one of the beefiest after-market extended life batteries for a Blackberry you might have up to 2200mah, which means this unit would get you from dead to about 75% or so. For almost anyone with a standard manufacturer battery in their smartphone, it will be 100%. This matches our experience with my Moto Droid and my wife's Blackberry Curve.

Unlike other posters, I find build quality acceptable at this price, but I would not try bouncing this off a brick wall. My fold-out plugs are not wobbly or loose, but this isn't made to take abuse.

The unit is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, just a bit narrower, and a hair thicker. Not for your pocket but easily tossed into a travel bag.

This is a great panel, it was easy to install on top of my motor home. Once we installed this solar panel on the roof, we had to make a trip down to Home Depot to buy 20 feet of wire to run from the panel down to the controller and then to the batteries. If you purchase this solar panel, you are going to need to also order some solar panel brackets because this one did NOT come with any. I have also ordered another controller so that way I can split the charge, one going to my main batter and one going to my Auxilary batteries.

Product arrived as scheduled but box was damaged. Upon opening found everything to be ok other then a smashed outer corner,

My guess is it happened during manufacturing. Good news was it did not effect performance. I put this panel on a voltmeter and it

Registered all specs as promised. Overall this panel is built well. Now, about the coaster which is advertised in the title description. Folks this is just a blue drink coaster! Why or how a drink coaster would be packaged and advertised in the title is beyond me.

Also , the MC4 connectors are not easy to find and are pricey online but they are water proof, well insulated for long term so I would suggest investing in this concept. If not you could cut these and use comparable stranded copper wire to make your connections which are obviously shielded. As for the charge controller it also worked accordingly. It is nothing fancy but does the

Job. I got a 4.76 amp reading on a clear winter morning here in Florida and I'm sure with a more direct noon angle this thing could put out just under 5 amps! Thanks for reading.

Notice any connecting cables? You don't see them because you don't get any! It's my one complaint. There is no way to directly connect the solar panel to the charge controller, because the plugs on the solar panel do not plug into the charge controller. You could chop off the special cable ends, or make your own power cord like I did (requires skill/training).

This panel puts out a lot of juice. I just wish that it had been plug-and-play.

Excellent price and well built solar panel and charger. As good as my BP panel. Liked the Led display on charger. Did not like the connectors and cut them off and fed wires direct from panel to charger. Installed on my RV and works perfectly in February in Arizona only used generator a couple of times. Delivered ontime.

I purchased a relatively large Jayco camping trailer (Pop-up) this year and wanted to be able to dry camp for a week at a time and not need to haul along a generator or be overly worried about conserving electricity. After doing the math I upgraded the stock group 24 battery to a group 29 and found this panel/charge controller combination for a bit of a discount over buying each separately. I did a few "dry-runs" at home by discharging my battery 20-40% and bringing it back up with this panel and controller and my battery was left with the same charge that my Schumacher SC-600A charger left it at so the controller's charging logic seemed sound. Using this in the field I'm happy to have plenty of power to the point that the charge controller is usually indicating a full battery by 9:30-10:00 each morning after a night with a few hours of running about 20 watts of dome/patio lights, the water pump as necessary, two small fans overnight and the furnace induction and blower fans as needed. The system has been reliable and performance has been great so far. While I haven't hooked up a meter to verify output, my back-of-the-envelope calculation based on draining up to 40% of the rated capacity of my battery and then charging it with this panel/charge controller combination it seems to be working as advertised.

I used some 10AWG outdoor rated wire and connectors leftover from my home PV installation I completed about 3 years ago which allows me to place the panel up to 20' from the battery to get it clear of trees or other shade that we like to place our trailer beneath. Worse case I can pull the battery off and move both battery and panel/charge controller to a more favorable charging location during the day and return it to the trailer once charging completes. I crimped some ring terminals on the wires going from the charge controller to the battery for easy installation/removal keeping these wires about 2' long to reduce losses from the charge controller to the battery and keep the charge controller sheltered by the bunk that slides out over the front of the trailer. Being 85 watts this panel isn't small so spend the time to look at the dimensions and make sure it will fit wherever you plan to store and use it. Mine stows beneath the dining table with about 6" to spare.

I did discover that the panel is reasonably tough as my wife mentioned to me one evening that she caught our friends' kid standing on it behind our trailer. Yes, actually STANDING on the glass portion of the panel while it was lying behind our trailer. This panel is build in the same manner as my 200 watt panels on my roof with an aluminum frame and PV cells glued to the back side of a panel of glass. Now I know this panel can support at least 40 pounds of kid without failing. I was prompted to put together a small "A-frame" stand made with leftover aluminum rail and brackets from my home install so now I can do a better job of optimizing the tilt of my panel and hopefully avoid subjecting the panel to a load-bearing stress test!

Amazon has this generator for the lowest price on the internet and much better than locally (once factoring in free shipping which normally costs $170 and tax free which is generally $70 or 7% in Indiana).

Shipping is awesome although it was out of stock for a while. ABF shipping is great. Item arrived intact via smaller truck after 1 week. ABF called my cell phone and arrange for convenient delivery time (signature required). Driver called day of delivery for 30 min. warning that item is coming. Driver hand-trucked 278# generator which is in original Honeywell box without any crating down a 100 foot long driveway into my garage for my wife. This is not the norm as free shipping generally means curb-side drop off and it's up to me to dolly this baby into my garage. My wife gave the driver a nice tip and I called him personally to thank him.

I ended up cutting the box to get the generator out due to heavy weight. I used a dolly padded with a thick towel to lift generator on its side to put on the wheel kit and 2 back legs with enclosed nuts/bolts (no washer needed or included due to specially designed bolts and nuts with washer flare). The tires are solid rubber so nothing to inflate or to go flat (nicely design), and are held on the shaft via washers and cotter pins. The handles fold nicely and bolted on with same type of nuts/bolts. Nuts and bolts are metric so get out you metric wrenches or sockets.

Honeywell HW7500E generator is a beauty. Red, metal fuel tank holds 6.5 gallons with fuel gage and metal gas cap. Black accents and red engine are easy on the eyes. I used Stabil fuel stabilizer from Walmart (1 oz per 2.5 gallons) to allow storage of gas in the tank so it's ready to go with less gunk build up and easier start later. Generator shipped without oil. I did not use the enclosed free 1 liter of 10W30 oil or free tiny funnel, and used instead full synthetic 10W30 oil (5 liter jug) with long neck funnel from Walmart. I recommend pouring the oil into a clean disposable plastic cup and then using this cup to pour the oil into the funnel to reduce drips, waste, and mess. It took a full quart of oil.

I installed a Reliance 30216BRK manual transfer switch kit (bought on Epay for $_1_8_0 shipped--more at Lowes) and used the included 20 foot 14-30 cable from the 30216BRK kit to hook up the generator to the switch (generator is placed outside the garage of course to avoid carbon monox. posoining) when generator is needed. This switch and generator provide power to 50 gallon electric hot water heater (3000 watts), 2 fridges (1600 watts), 2 freezers (1600 watts), 6 ceiling spot lights, and 2 ceiling fans to family room. Obviously, the water heater will be switched on and off just for showers (once existing water in the tank cools) to reduce the load otherwise. The generator does have an idle control, stutters now and then when the water heater kicks on, and does not get any louder than a 20" push gas lawn mower. I can hear the generator barely in the house at night but not during the day. Generator is 10 feet from the house's brick wall, outside the garage door which is closed on top of the generator cable.

Starting is easy with plastic cheat sheet numbering 1 through 7 steps with electric start. 12v/14Ah sealed lead, tractor type battery started the generator with first push of the switch. This battery can be charged with a "smart" car battery charger if set to 2A mode for 6-8 hours. It can be replaced at Walmart or Lowes in the lawn tractor section. Stopping the generator is as easy as 1) unplug, 2) let run 3 more minutes, 3) push the button off, and 4) turn the fuel switch to off (also clearly stated, step by step, on the attached plastic poster).

Overall, this is an excellent generator for the price of $999.99 due to 1) 3 year warranty (1 year parts and labor, other 2 years parts only), 2) Honeywell brand (not the cheap Chinese junk like Powermax, Pro-Grade, Buffalo Tools, Blue Max, Chicago Tools, Eastern Tools, and numerous other aliases--best clue is the chincy 1 year warranty with them sending you the parts and you do the repair yourself or locally at any lawn mower/motor repair shop whose cost may or may not be covered by them), 3) 7500W continuous, 9375W peak watts (Chinese generators have exaggerated wattage ratings so beware), 4) included free accesories (25 foot L14-30 cable to 4 outlets which costs around $60-100 on Epay and even more locally), 1 quart of oil, cheapy funnel, 12v battery, step by step start/stop cheat sheet, toll-free help line with fast pickup by real Americans, and flat-free wheel kit.

I do wish that the fuel tank can be 10 gallons instead of 6.5 gallons, included funnel has a longer neck, easier access to fill oil, less noise is always a plus, included cable is standard 14-30 male to 14-30 female to allow easier hookup to transfer switches--it already has 4 outlets on the generator so why do we need 4 more on the generator cable?, outlet covers to keep them dry in the rain (I plugged them up with baby-proofing outlet covers at Walmart), and actual bumper to bumper 3 year warranty.

Despite these mentioned weaknesses, this generator is still a great buy at Amazon for this price.

UPDATED! I've now owned and used this generator for four years and one month. Please see my update immediately following the original review!

---Original review:

First off, let me say that I purchased this generator on Dec. 22, 2008, and it arrived on Jan. 6, 2009 (not bad, considering that when I purchased it, I was told it wouldn't even ship until the end of January 2009!). Plus, Amazon shipped it to my doorstep FOR FREE, a savings of $166.00.

Now, let's get down to the generator itself. It arrived in perfect condition, very well packaged inside its cardboard box. I carefully read the instruction manual FIRST, before doing anything else, just to familiarize myself with the generator, the accessories, and the assembly instructions. I then began installing the feet and the wheels, a process that took a couple hours, only because I was trying to be extra careful and to fully inspect the generator for any apparent damage as I went (hey, it is a $1,000 investment!). The only problem worth mentioning here is that only two wheel washers were included, but the manual says four. However, an extra set of washers would've made it impossible to install the cotter pins, so in the long run, it was OK.

Next I was ready to add the engine oil. As was previously suggested by another buyer of this generator, I added full-synthetic 10W30 oil instead of the oil that came with it (the sticker on the included oil, by the way, states that it is only for use above 32 degrees F, and it's colder than that right now here in Maine!) As everyone else has pointed out, the included funnel is worthless; however, I picked up a GREAT long-neck funnel at Wal-Mart for a mere 97 cents. Once I added the oil, I went to attach the battery. Here's where I had my second minor problem. The instruction manual said the negative battery lead would be attached to the alternator for shipping, but it wasn't attached to anything; it was carefully wrapped in plastic and left free-floating. Not a problem at all.

Speaking of the battery, while I was attaching it, I also attached the leads for an automatic battery charger/tender. Once I finished this step, I plugged the charger in, and was told that the battery was already fully charged! This was a real plus, as I didn't have to wait to test the electric-start feature of generator. I put in a couple gallons of stabilized gas, double-checked the oil level, turned on the fuel valve and the choke (the choke is on when the lever is to the LEFT -it's not clearly marked on the generator itself), and hit the start button. It started up IMMEDIATELY! I gradually moved the choke to the off position and gave the generator a few minutes to warm up. Then I pulled out my trusty multimeter to see what kind of juice I was getting. The 120V outlets were providing exactly 123V, and the 240V outlet was providing exactly 246V. Very stable readings, too! No major fluctuations at all!

Next it was time to plug the generator into my transfer switch. I did so, flipped the switch, and the next thing I knew, it was like NOTHING had happened. In other words, the voltage being fed into the house by the generator was so good, so stable, that everything in the house operated just like I was on utility power. I didn't try running everything at once, of course -it's only a 7500W generator, not a 15000W or more -but everything that I did run operated perfectly. My wife did a load of laundry in the front-loader washing machine, we turned on lots of lights, a space heater, the fridge, ran lots of hot water so the furnace would kick in to provide more, watched a DVD on our big-screen TV, surfed the Internet on our desktop PC, etc. We ran this full test of the generator for one hour! When we had multiple things running, I conducted another test with my multimeter. I'm happy to report that the house outlets were providing 122.5 to 122.9V, even with a decent load on the generator!

I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this item. The minor little issues I had are really nothing, when you get right down to it. What really matters is whether a generator will start reliably and provide good-quality electricity, and this baby DOES! If you want a generator to help you weather a shortor long-term power outage, I don't think you could go wrong buying this Honeywell. It's a real HONEY! And don't forget, it's got a three-year warranty, longer than every other generator I looked at. And you can't beat the price, considering the size of this machine!

--------

UPDATE: I've now owned this generator for four years and one month (It's now February 2013). I can't believe it's been that long! Anyway, this generator has been the steady workhorse that I hoped it would be! I keep a detailed usage log, so I can tell you with complete accuracy that I have used this generator during eight different power outages, ranging in length from one hour to eight hours, with several test runs throughout the four years, and this generator has never failed, never hesitated, never let me down! Even the original battery is still in perfect condition, most likely because I keep it on a trickle charger. The ONLY bad thing that I can say about the generator after all this time is that a couple quarter-sized areas of paint flaked off the cover where the manual pull rope comes out, but it still otherwise looks and acts as it did when I received it. I know Honeywell has updated this generator (new design, apparently a lot heavier, etc.), so this review may be outdated. However, if you are looking for a new generator and can't find my particular model any longer, you'd probably be safe trying the company's newest model.

Did a fair amount of research on brands but eventually was won over by the price point and a somewhat reputable brand name. The shipment was at exactly nine days after ordering, and the local delivery was within the time frame stated, although near the tail end of the window so no real reason to complain. The driver off-loaded the boxed unit with a dolly and placed it within my garage.

There it sat for a couple of weeks until bad weather was predicted, so I finally took it out of the box and began putting it together. That's when the little nitpicky stuff began to surface. Wheel kit was missing a set of washers, so the wheels won't roll very smoothly. Then went to install the handles and found that one handle did not have a hole drilled for the bolt. Ended up drilling it myself not a real big deal but a pain nonetheless. Tried to add oil with the funnel provided but it was worthless, so as others had previously suggested the next day I went out and bought a long-necked funnel (along with a male to female L14-30 cord to be able to connect the generator to my manual transfer switch. That night a storm came in and of course we lost power, so I was scrambling in the dark to fill the oil (with the new funnel) and then began adding fuel. Immediately there was a leak at the fuel shut-off switch. Ran it anyway (not very smart I know)and it started right away and powered up what we needed.

The next day attempted to fix the leak but it appears to be a problem with the gasket or O-ring within the valve housing. Tried to get a replacement part but was told I had to take it in to an authorized dealer for it to be ordered and fixed under warranty. They wouldn't send a replacement part, so now I have to load the 300lb unit into my car and travel 40mi one-way to drop it off so they can order the replacement part and wait 1 1.5 wks before I can again drive down to pick it up.

For the 2hrs I did use the generator it seemed to work ok, its just now that I'm concerned about the long-term and whether or not there are other issues that will surface. Especially since the distance to an authorized dealer is excessive. Check this out if you're considering purchasing, I didn't think of it.

Honest reviews on Honeywell HW7500E 9375 Watt 15 HP 420cc OHV Portable Gas Powered

Don't expect this generator to be there when you need it. It is cheaply made out of inferior materials. When I needed mine, I found the float valve in the carburetor was frozen closed due to rust from the steel fittings in the float bowl. The screws holding the solenoid on the bottom of the float are made of soft metal and the cross points stripped out on both of them so they had to be removed with vice grips. When I finally got the float valve unstuck, the rust cleaned out, and the generator running, I found there was only 43 volts out of each leg in the 240 volt socket. I have owned the generator just over 6 months, and have not used it since the initial test run and storage. Typical Honeywell Chinese made junk. Winter update: The starter motor doesn't have enough torque to start the engine in cold conditions. It won't pull it past the compression stroke even using synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. The recoil starter is usless as it is not humanly possible to pull it hard enough to start the engine. The only way I got it to start was to pull the engine past the compression stroke, and sometimes the starter motor will develop enough momentum to crank the engine. I wish there was a way to rate this product with negative stars!

I got the unit today unloaded it and put it together no problems. The unit just won't start. I called the number provided to ask if someone could walk me thru the initial start steps just to be sure I didn't miss anything. I waited several minutes and finally got a rep. I explained my problem and was told you have to take it to a dealer. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and was told they don't have any techs. She took my zip code and told me the closest dealer is 30 miles away. Now I am faced with getting this 200lb unit in the car drive 1/2 hour each way to drop off and by the way the dealer can't tell me how long it will be before it is repaired. BOTTOM LINE DON'T BUY A HONEYWELL
