There are days when I don't feel very smart.

When I got this unit I wanted to test it so I put the cigarette lighter plug on and plugged it into the car, plugged in my electric drill and then blew the fuse on the cigarette lighter socket.

Dummy, the lighter fuse is only 15 amps.

12 volt system at 15 amps, 12 x 15 = 180watts.

Even if you get a 50 amp fuse, 12 x 50 = 600 watts.

You can't fully use this.

This has to be connected directly to the battery for full use.

I give it three stars because it is typical quality of a product made in China--mediocre fit and finish, but it does work. The 2 AC outlets are closer together than a standard home socket, so that could cause problems if you try to plug in more than one wall wart. The outlets are not electrically grounded in any way, but this may true of all inverters since you're just taking DC +/and turning it into AC. There is a fuse soldered in place inside the case, so if for some reason that blows, you are out of luck unless you disassemble the case, desolder the blown fuse, and then resolver a new fuse in its place. To permanently install a fuse is just simply a poor design.

Overall then, it is okay, but not high quality. I thought about giving it 4 stars, the build quality and the oddly soldered fuse don't rate that in my book. See the video to understand about the replaceable fuse being permanently soldered in place.

Comes with cigar adapter and battery clamps. If you try to run over 500w with the cigar adapter you will blow a fuse since most vehicles are not rated to push out that much power. The only way to harness all 1000w is to hook it directly to your battery. Luckily since my car is an AMG my battery is giant and in the trunk. It has brackets so you can mount it and it will not move. Fan can get loud when you have a full load on. Things to remember when buying inverters.

1) Unplug when not in use. Wouldn't want to drain your battery overnight would you?

2) Check to see if the number is Peak or Constant wattage. You want a good constant.

3) Does it come with adapters you need? Cigar and Battery Clamps on this one.

4) Figure out what devices you want to power and check the wattage. Most devices tell you on the power pack or where the plug meets the device. Volts * Amps = Watts (my laptop power pack says 15v and 6amps, which means 90 watts)

5) It's better to buy double the wattage than what you figure you need. That way you aren't running it at it's max and burning the poor thing up. It's like you never being able to walk and always having sprinting everywhere. You'll get overheated and die. Why treat your inverter the same way?

We recently had a couple of minor tornadoes (if there is such a thing) race through North Atlanta, and it left us without power for 24-hours. It seemed like an eternity! I was very close to losing about $400 worth of food. I had an inverter that was rated at 275 watts, and tried to use it to power my freezer, but the initial power surge was too strong for too long for that inverter to handle it.

So I bought this inverter with hopes of not only being able to occasionally power my freezer, but also possibly my main fridge in the kitchen during an extended outage. It was not only able to do both, but both at the same time, which is amazing.

The freezer surges to 595W, and then after about 10 seconds drops to 125W where is just hums along. The refrigerator (25cu/ft Frigidaire) surges initially to 705W, and then after about 10 seconds drops to 205W continuous. I measured all of this using a Kill-A-Watt device.

I attached the freezer first and waited until it was only drawing 125W, then attached the fridge. I did this while the inverter was attached directly to my car battery with my car running. When I attached the fridge, the car sounded like it was going to stall, but it recovered and powered everything nicely.

In the event of an actual outage, I would probably just power each appliance individually for 30 minutes or so every 4 hours to keep things cold. I like knowing that this unit provides enough power to be able to handle either appliance, plus run an LCD TV, or some lights, etc.

Great inverter at a great price. If you're struggling with whether to buy a portable gas generator so that you're prepared for extended outages, this unit may prevent you from having to do that. It obviously won't do everything a generator can, but it's a lot cheaper, and can handle a lot of the basics.

I purchased this device to try to charge my cell phone with the sun. The device was very well constructed, and easy to use. When the device is fully charged (with a USB cable and wall charger which wasn't included), it was easy to charge my iPhone (3G) by plugging the iPhone cable into the included USB slot.

Unfortunately, even after leaving this device out in the full sun for an entire day, it failed to even charge the internal battery over 25%. What this means is that if you plan to use this for solar power, you have to leave it in the sun for the better part of a full week in order to get enough power to recharge a cell phone.

That said, it works well as a portable battery. Just not as a solar panel.

My first backup pack was an Energizer, $70, and it was fine but pricey for me. I happened to run across this Brunton pack through Botach Tactical for $30 shipped, and I LOVE it!

Solar Panel: I understand that the solar panel is for EMERGENCY or minor supplemental charging, so I am realistic about it's capabilities. With that being said, I haven't tested it's spec'd capabilities.

LED Light: The description leaves out the fact that it has a built in LED for reading or rummaging through your bag it's not very bright, it's just right.

Adapters: The cord that is half-wrapped around the unit is USB 2.0 and Mini 8-pin USB, both male type. Additionally, it comes with a cigarette lighter adapter with a female USB 2.0 port, as well as a Mini 8-pin USB (female) to Micro 5-pin USB (male) adapter that allows you to plug in most Smart phones. At first having to use the adapter to plug my phone in was a gripe for me, BUT, I realized that a Mini USB is able to withstand more abuse than a Micro, so it works out. NOTE: When using your own charging cable (Micro to USB 2.0) be sure to completely unplug the attached grey cable from the unit. If you leave the Mini side plugged in, it will assume you are attempting to charge the pack, not your phone.

Charge Capacity: We own 2 of these units, 1 for me and one for the diaper bag. We charge them when they hit 50%, but have yet to fully deplete them even with heavy use. My Android was about to die while I was tweaking out on my Ebay app, so I plugged it in and it kept my phone juiced up AND even added charge.

Build: This unit feels pretty durable, and has handled the diaper bag abuse. The orange rubber lining is no-slip texture, and the unit is slim enough to fit in the back pocket of my Levi's comfortably.

All in all, I couldn't be happier, especially given the price. Even for the Amazon price, it's still worth the money for everyday use and just-in-case. Couple all the above mentioned with the "Plethora" of aftermarket attachments and chachkies (maybe a Brunton SolarRoll) and you got yourself mobile peace of mind.

I was very happy with this recent purchase. It charges rather quickly when you plug it into an outlet, about 2 hours and it was fully charged. It comes with a small USB to mini USB cable to charge it with. It charged my cell phone from about 1/3 power to fully charged in less than an hour and charged my Nexus 7 tablet from 53% to 85% in under an hour, I disconnected it and still had 3 or 4 lights for battery power. I haven't tried it yet with just solar power but for my needs it will be fine. I intend to keep it fully charged for trips (hiking and camping) and clip it to my backpack as an emergency power source. It seems pretty rugged.

Getting my supplies ready for hiking the AT I found myself feeling very fortunate to find a product such as this.

I use a bottom line Motorola Cell and a Bayer Contour USB glucose meter for my diabetic care.

Both of my devices charge in just more than an hour using this device. I find that funtastic.

I know the solar panel does little for those with high-end phone/toys. The small solar panel is only a half watt and that is in the best sunlight/condition ( 0.100a * 5V = .500W or 1/2 watt)(a*v=W). My devices are turned off during hiking/packing until I have a need and there is where this device works for me. During my few months on the trail the Brunton Freedom will be more than adequate for my charging. I also love the small dim led light built in.

If your going to bring a high-end toy on the AT you may want to buy a gas generator to pull behind you.

I recently bought a NOCO charger and was very impressed with it. I thought that this would be a really good addition.

The fuse holder is so big that there is no way to fish it through your firewall without either drilling a large hole or cutting the fuse holder off.

The led charging indicator doesn't appear to be accurate at all.

The cable that comes on the unit is not nearly as long as it needs to be.

I am very happy with the charger, however I would recommend the quick connector instead of this battery indicator.

The solio is okay; it's works for charging your phone one afternoon when you don't need it, or for small emergency charges, but I wouldn't recommend it as a regular back-up plan. I usually just use a fold-out flexible solar panel, which, while more expensive on the whole, was cheaper for the amount of product included and charges way faster.

I took this product backpacking. First, I wanted to test it, so I placed it outside in the sun to achieve a full charge. After 4 hours, it was minimally charged (maybe 10%), so I plugged into my laptop's USB to finish the charging, which took the rest of the day and all night to reach 100%. Let down number two occurred in the back-country, when my iPhone 3G ran low on juice after a few days of intermittent GPS use. I used the included attachments to connect my iPhone to the Solio Classic and hit the "Start" button (solio's only button--the instructions are odd pictures; no words). The iPhone registered that it was being charged; however, after 5 minutes, I checked the progress only to find that the Solio had quit charging. After attempting this nearly 30 times throughout the next few days, my iphone was none the better, in-fact it probably had less juice from the constant on/off of this disjointed charge attempt. I am unimpressed and will return this item as soon as I get home!

I purchased a Solio Classic for use on a cross country bike trip. The product worked well, recharging a PDA, iPod and cell phone. But a piece (the center bushing around which the solar wings pivot) broke. It was my fault and I figured I could contact the company for a replacement part once I finished the trip.

I emailed them requesting the part, and here was their reply: "Unfortunatly we do not sell parts for your Solio. You will need to purchase a replacment unit."

My response: "This is very disappointing and unreasonable. I am not going to spend tens of dollars replacing a perfectly functional unit simply because an inexpensive plastic part has broken. I suggest you rethink this policy. Since you still manufacture the Classic, the part must still be available. This is really poor customer relations!"

They responded: "We do not do repairs on site. The unit holds a one year warrenty, if you are out of that time period you will have to purchase another unit. I apologize if you do not agree with our policy."

I suggest you do not support a company that on one hand touts its environmental cachet, and on the other promotes the senseless discarding of an easily repairable product.

If you are considering purchasing this charger, keep in mind the following technical considerations:

The charging efficiency of most portable electronics is usually somewhere between 20-70%. Most items like cell phones, GPS units, etc. waste a portion of the recharging energy as heat.

What this means is that this charger, with a 1650MAH battery, can deliver between 330-1155 MAH of charge. If your cell phone has a 1500MAH battery, you will get a maximum of a 77% charge from this, you should expect less.

My LG android phone will charge to about 60% when this is fully charged.

Purchased Garmin nüvi 260W GPS, this product was listed under 'Frequently Bought Together' items. It was inexpensive, in fact, shipping was more than the item itself. I purchased the AC wall charger and when I received my GPS I attempted to use it to initially charge the GPS. Not only would the Garmin NOT charge, it functioned like it kept getting reset, like it was caught in a loop. Once I placed the Garmin inside my vehicle with the car charger it worked exactly like it should have, so I know the problem was the AC charger. This charger did not work on the Garmin NUV 255. It was a total waste of money. The box it came in didn't even say it was for a GPS. It only said cell phone and MP3 player on the box. It was a complete false advertisement. Don't purchade this for a GPs system.

I bought one of these at discounted price off Amazon about a year ago and it worked until the plug-in pins to the Garmin broke. So I checked back at Amazon and despite the bad reviews I ordered two more for my Garmin 255W with free shipping that ran a little under five bucks total. I mean, at that price, no big loss. And I also ordered another one for around $15 just to be sure I received one that worked. I purchased it for battery replacement of APC BE350. It uses Kung LONG WP3-12, and this battery is supposed to be compatible.

I pulled out the old battery and put the new one I just received in the case. Then I realized the battery cover does not fit well. It can still seal the case and make battery usable, but the cover protrudes from the case just little bit, like 1/8 inch. It made me little nervous about the compatibility.

They're visibly identical, but maybe hight is little higher than WP3-12 or maybe the edge shape might be different. In fact, BE352 battery cover edge has extra thickness area that might be specifically designed for the edge to settle down the battery in the case.

It's not perfect fit but the battery itself is working fine. I tested few times by unplugging UPS and it does what it supposed to do. So, it's just minor annoyance.

Bought these to replace cobra's I have had for years. First of all, does anyone expect any of these units to reach out 22 miles? Didn't think so. That said, these do a very good job in the hill country of Penna. We use them primarily for hunting and hiking. They will reach about 1 to 1 1/2 miles. A little more if you are on top of the hill. My old ones wouldn't quite go that far. They are very clear and navagating the menu is relatively easy, even for us older folk. Batt. packs last all day and charge overnite. I would say these are very good and are often found on sale. No regrets.

When paying 14.95 a month you would think coverage would be better than what it is.....Just check your local AT&T coverage to see how it will work for you.

Battery power is better than I expected...it lasts me about 3 to 4 days depending on how much I locate it or have it scheduled to locate every 10 to 30 minutes. Its larger than I thought it would be so hiding it was a little more difficult but I found a good hiding spot...

It will text or email you when battery is low or car is moved (if it's in good coverage area) Also when the car is moved it will locate the device every 5 minutes for two hours which I liked.

So, all in all, if the coverage in my area was better and it was a bit smaller, it would be perfect!

I have no problem recommending this product. It has worked as advertised and met all my expectations. The pricing is a little high, but as I've learned (read my Zoombak disaster) you get what you pay for. I keep this device in an enclosed trailer for some added security, and when the battery gets low, you are notified. You have unlimited locates, and the shock and perimeter functions work flawlessly as well.

This is the first time I've found such a huge discrepency and I will remember to double check Ebay in the future!

I've had it for a couple days now. The battery only lasted a day or two and takes a long time to charge. So I paid Best Buy $100 to have it hard wired directly to the battery in the car my 16 year daughter is using (and my 14 year old son is lusting after). I thought of just clipping the car charger plug off and wiring it myself to the car wiring. Luckily, I did not try this as the plug contains a resistor. The proper way is to buy a female plug that you wire (either always on or just on when the vehicle is on) and permenantly plug the male end into it. Best Buy did a great job of hiding it.

The couple days I've had it has tracked great! It will show the position every ten minutes or you can get continous tracking for ten minute intervals. It show location, speed and direction of the vehicle.

It's pricey at $300 plus $180 for on-line tracking. But after reading all the problems with the competing device, I am very glad I bought this one so far.

It has an arm function that is supposed to alert you by email and by text message to your cell phone if the car is moved. It can be armed from the computer after the car is supposed to be home for the night. This function is not currently functioning on my unit. I emailed tech support today and hope to follow-up here if they respond.

The arm function is great for kids that might make a unauthorized copy of the key and sneak out for a midnight joy ride (not that we parents ever did that smile).

But even if the arm function does not work, I can always have the website plot where the car has been for the last day or for several days and pick up any unauthorized activity.

I think it's cheap for the peace of mind of knowing where my kid and the car are and how fast they are driving!

Ok I have had this for a few days and had my daughter track me while I was out of town and driving around California.

So far it has performed exactly as I had expected and I am pleased.

My daughter calls it very cool. She can follow my travels and know where i am when I am out of town on business.

Things I like are real time tracking so you can put the unit on a vehicle and follow its movements

There is a slight lag and the position when not moving is not perfect. It will give the position to about 15-20 feet,

ie it will show the car parked 2-3 parking spaces away from where it actually is parked in a typical parking lot.

It will also give you a route history and the interface is easy to use.

I have not put the battery time to the test yet. That is what I will do for the next few days.

Good solid product. Worth the money.

1) I received this in the mail. 2) I plugged it into my 32GB iPhone 3GS that was a couple months old and working fine. 3) about 10 hours later (the next morning) I unplugged it and the iPhone was completely nonfunctional. Totally dead. A BRICK.

Additional info: The iPhone had a screen protector on it. When I unplugged it in the morning, the edge of the screen protector seemed to have come off a little on its own. I see this as a clue that perhaps the external battery unit had somehow made the iPhone overheat. Perhaps this excessive heat is what rendered the iPhone nonfunctional.

Bottom line: This cheap Chinese-made device apparently bricked my iPhone. I'm surprised that 15 minutes of Googling around hasn't turned up any similar experiences with this device, so maybe this was just a bad-luck fluke. YMMV.

I purchased this at a kiosk in the local mall. It is a great tool, compact and easy to use. It just plugs into your charging cord and doesn't take long to charge. I keep it in my purse so if I am in a situation where I can't easily charge my iphone. Actually I gave my charger this past week to my daughter for her iphone, so I will be purchasing another to replace.

BTW...the cost here is a lot cheaper than what it cost me in the mall ($35). Everytime I went back to the kiosk to purchase another they were out. Other vendors wanted to charge $50, so I definitely will be purchasing on Amazon.

I installed it without even charging it the mower started right up I then charged it for 10 hours to make sure it had a full charge as I take the mower out on the road. Very good product. Summary:

The product I received was not able to supply the advertised current with the supplied USB cable or any other USB cable. The supplied USB cable would never be able to supply >500mA regardless of the charger, AC or USB. I needed to modify the 2.1A port in able to draw the advertised current. I needed to modify a USB cable to draw the advertised current from the non-modified 1A port.

Detailed Description:

Out of the box, this charger will not provide the advertised 2.1A or 1A to your USB device. I used my HTC Rezound android phone and the Battery Monitor app to see two things: 1) The charge mode when plugged into each USB port, and 2) The amount of current being sourced to the phone.

1) The phone only recognized the "USB" charge mode, and not "AC" charge mode. In the "USB" charge mode, the phone will limit itself to 500mA only. In "AC" charge mode, the phone will remove the 500mA restriction and take as much power as it can handle. I used both the supplied USB cable and ones that came with AC adapters that when plugged in, indicate "AC" charging. There was no USB cable that I tried that allowed AC charging from this product.

After some research, I found that the 2 inner pins (data +, data -) on the physical USB connector need to be shorted together in order for the phone to recognize AC charging. I opened this charger and soldered the 2 data pins together on the 2.1A port, but left the 1A port alone. Using a USB cable known to source >500mA from an AC adapter, I connected my phone to the charger's 2.1A port in the car. The charge mode indicated "AC" and no longer "USB". I then removed the cable from the 2.1A port and plugged into the unmodified 1A port, and the phone indicated "USB" charging.

I then used the supplied USB cable in both ports, but the phone only indicated "USB" charging for each one. I tried the cable on an AC adapter and the phone still indicated "USB" charging. I disconnected the cable and sliced it open to find that there were no wires for data + or data (the 2 inner pins). This means that regardless of the charger, this cable would not allow full-rate charging at 2.1A or 1A since the USB device would see data + and data as an open circuit, instead of a short circuit, and limit itself to 500mA.

2) After the soldering modification, I witnessed current rates on the phone via the Battery Monitor app exceeding 900mA from the 2.1A port, which is the net amount of current going to the battery after supplying power for existing phone functions (CPU, screen, radios, etc).

Further, I took another USB cable that has data lines, cut open the outer insulation and spliced together the 2 data lines (green & white insulation). After re-insulating the cable, plugged it into my phone and the 1A port (the not modified port). The phone indicated "AC" charging and >500mA net current to the battery.

My experience with this product has been very positive. My micro usb car charger's wire recently split exposing the wires and I thought it best to replace it sooner rather than after having a short. I got this product as a replacement and figured the extra port would be beneficial for additional charging of my higher powered devices such as my ipad or Nexus 7 while I charged my phone or ipod. The charger is very sturdy, sleek looking and is the right size for my car and has a cool blue light that glows to let you know when it is powered. The light is strong enough that it is visible during the day. It also is sturdy and compact if you want to move it between cars. I was very impressed how well this compact and sturdy device performed. It was able to charge my Android phone(with an extended battery connected) with the 1 amp port much more quickly than my old micro usb charger and was able to also charge my tablets simultaneously with my phone using the 2 amp port at a very fast rate. I didn't realize just how much being able to charge two devices simultaneously would be appreciated and I find myself charging ipods and tablets as I drive along with my phone all the time now. I also like having the option of charging my device at 1 A or quicker using the 2A port provided. The included micro usb cable is also a great bonus as is knowing that I can replace the wire if necessary and won't have to replace the whole unit, unlike my old one piece charging unit. I am very impressed with this sleek, efficient and powerful little device's charging capabilities while driving and am very glad to have replaced my older less functional device. I would definitely recommend using this device for all of the features above.

I have to say this is the only charger that could charge my GS3... I've used so many not realizing that they were my older I phone chargers. I didn't know the whole 2A and 1A difference. But this does the job! I could charge my wife's I phone and my Android phone at the same time.

I'm just a little upset that it stated 15w on the Site yet the box says it's 10w. Honestly this was the only reason I went with trent. I was told about another brand called powergen. It's listed @ 10w 2A charger for a dollar less. Oh well, I guess they got me? It is kinda deceiving to do this... That's why I gave it 4 stars....

I want to use my Nexus 7 (N7) tablet as GPS navigation (BIG SCREEN!) and bought this charger, thinking that it will delivery enough juice (3.1A) to power the N7 while being used.

My N7 was in this state:

ON

Brightness 75%

Wifi ON and tethered to my cellphone

Google Navigation running.

Even though N7 shows that it is "Charging" at AC rate, the battery actually goes down. So it looks like it does NOT charge the N7 while it is being used.

However, if the N7 is OFF, then it charges, albeit slowly.

The New Trent 1 Dual high-speed USB charger has a nice, shape, which fits comfortably into my car's DC slot, and a gentle
blue LED light that signals that the charger is functioning. The supplied USB cord is long enough to power a 
device that may have to be stored in a seat pocket, etc. Over an hour's
 drive it got warm, but not unreasonably so, which suggests that it discharges heat in a safe manner.

I tested the 2A slot with an ipad 3, and the 1A slot with a Samsung Android
phone. Both charged quickly. I then individually ran their mp3
 audio through the car's sound system while charging a topic not addressed by many 5* reviews. The ipad sounded fine,
 but there was a lot of hiss and cycle hum with the Android, hence the 4 stars. All together a great charger if you aren't simultaneously going to play music through your phone!

This is a good idea, and the unit is convenient to keep in the pocket of your car. However, I found that using the charger continuously for an extended period of time causes it to heat up and it will eventually fail. Just using it for a few hours occasionally is OK, but don't leave it plugged in and connected overnight.
