I got this as part of my emergency kit, just to have more power options in the event of a power failure, like we had in Sandy. I have not tried this in "anger" yet, no need has come up, but I did take a nearly dead BlackBerry, Kindle HD, a smart phone and it charged them all perfectly (I did them one at a time.)

Summary:

I took off a couple of points for the sloppy AC wave form and the idle current use, but would recommend to a friend with the above caveats, and would personally buy again knowing what I know now, after all it does work well for what I wanted. While potentially annoying to someone using this in the car stopped for a long time, the fan running all of the time is actually a good thing for the life of the product, parts will run real hot under a full load and cooling them properly will help prevent failures.

As a rule of thumb always get 2 times the wattage / mA your device actually needs, these run best at 50% load and that also allows plenty of headroom for occaision usage spikes from your device. (Plus I think the ratings are on the "optimistic" side, attained only with an ideal load under ideal circumstances, so not a lie, just not likely your experience.)

-

-

PROS:

Will USB charge most phones and tablets.

115VAC -Suitable for the uses I had, phone wall wart

DC Output (USB) very clean and obviously just going straight through a regulator, nicely done, no introduced ripple at all (means same as battery itself) -Also no change in voltage with load change, held rock solid, again, just like a battery would (did)

Form Factor, small, easy to use, just toss in glove box

Dual USB port to charge two small devices at once, tried my BB and smart phone at the same time

Reasonable Fan Noise while car is in motion (count on it being on all the time, no matter what the load)

CONS:

Very Ugly 110VAC Waveform -This is likely to not work on anything but older non-switching style wall warts, and very well built new ones, you will want to try this before needing it. If your wall wart is 2" square or larger it is likely an older style one and will work fine, if it is a itty-bitty one (technical term :) then it may not work, my BlackBerry one worked fine and it is clearly a new style switching wall wart, but it is a very expensive one (well built). To be fair it should be noted that all small static inverters work this way, but I suspect some do a better job than this unit, the only thing is you'll pay a lot more for a "true sine" wave inverter and likely not need it.

Draws 220mA just plugged in, most of this is the fan. This is only an issue if you had intended on leaving it plugged in all the time.

While the fan was not bad I would not want to be stopped in the car for a long time using it, but on the road, on the move at about 35MPH I could not hear it at all.

Form Factor is also a pro and con, on the con side is where you need to plug it in, as an all-in-one unit, make sure you have enough room around your lighter / accessory plug for this to fit. If that is an issue there are other unit available with a cord or you can buy the lighter extension cord for a few bucks here and solve the problem, much smaller plug, and much deeper socket so it stays in better.

Video:

This is shows the Bestek version of a 110VAC sine wave and a view of a real sine wave from the wall (utility power). Looks a little rough and easy to see why it might bother power supplies that can't easily smooth this out, such as inexpensive switching supplies. (Non-geeks, this is not as bad as it looks, as noted all inexpensive static inverters are going to look about like this)

Specs as measued by me:

Idle Current Draw about 1/4 Amp (220 mA)@ 13.5DVC

AC voltage varied from 110.08VAC @ 12VDC exactly, 112.84VAC at 13.5VDC so it moves around with input voltage.

AC votage also varied on load, from a base of 112.84 VAC at no load, to 107.17 VAC at 120W, at 75W it was 110.26 VAC

Frequency varied from 59.774Hz 61.032 but a 10 minute average came in at 60.044Hz (75W load)

DC ripple was not measurable on anything I own, essentially 0 any load

DC Voltage 5.04VDC, like a rock

BTW -The 300W version of the Bestek waveform looks exactly the same, so same design just beefier parts for more power.

This inverter produces a square wave AC output, which is unsuitable for inductive loads such as fluorescent lights or computer notebook power supplies or for motors, instead of the nice sinusoidal AC output of normal mains power. It should work for resistive loads like incandescent lights, although those are higher power and are being phased out now.

Even if at this price point one has to expect it, the user should be aware of this significant limitation. When connected to even low power fluorescent lights or computer notebook power supplies, the inverter does not power the device and its indicator LED switches from green to blinking red. The USB DC output was sufficient to power devices such as USB lights however.

The plastic face on one side of the inverter was cracked inside or otherwise not firmly attached to the body so that side pulls out a few millimeters when an AC plug is removed. One therefore has to hold the face in place to avoid separating or breaking it further.

The end that plugs into the car power port is short enough and the face/body large enough that it may not fit in some cars without a wired extender because the large body may be physically blocked by the plastics in the car console.

Mine arrived fast and has a red body. I like the sturdy one-piece design.

This 150W unit has passed all the tests I threw at it so far, for charging USB devices and running small devices requiring 110VAC. NOTE: Because 150W can draw over 10A, I have upgraded my under-dash fuses to 20A.

The box it was shipped in is close-fitting, and makes a great carrying case.

For the price I was expecting something noisy or ineffective, not the case. This is a wonderful product at a very nice price. I will recommend to friends!

Did not charge iphone when connected to the usb port it includes. The charges was simply not recognized by the iphone. When I plugged in my laptop, the power adapter of the computer buzzed and clicked loudly. In spite of this, I left my computer connected for a few minutes only to realize that it was very very very slugishly charging. I found this item not to work. This is the second bestek item that I've owned and they both malfunctioned out of the package. Im sad to say im done with BESTEK.

This is my review on the TUDIA 3.1 Amps Dual USB port car charger. Let me say that this is an amazing little charger! I have used many USB Car chargers in the past, but so far this one is my favorite. The thing I like most about it is its compact size, there are many dual USB chargers in the market, but they all seem to be big and bulky, this one is the opposite its small and compact; however, just because its small doesn't mean its not as good as the others. This charger can charge at either 1 Amp or at 2.1 Amps! The USB ports clearly indicate which one is which, the difference? Well if the 1 Amp output is mostly for your phones, and the 2.1 Amps output is for your larger devices that need more power such as tablets. The four blue lines that you see on the sides of the charger provide grip in order to put and remove the charger from the car. Overall I really like this charger, it looks very durable and it seems that it will last a long time. An awesome product from TUDIA that I recommend you buy especially if you have a smartphone/tablet since they are constantly draining the battery life and having a pretty much universal charger in the car is necessary. I rate this product a perfect 5 out of 5 stars!

I hope this review has helped you out!

I was provided a sample for testing and evaluation, my review of this product is honest and the words stated above are my own.

I tested TUDIA USB Car Charger with Nexus 7 Tablet and Samsung Galaxy Nexus cell phone. The charger provides a total of 3.1A, 2.1A on one port and 1.0A on the second port.

I received this car charger from the manufacture with a request for an honest review be it positive or negative. One of the benefits of being requested to test different car chargers that it gives me an opportunity to compare them to each other using the same charging test, so I can compare them using "apples to apples" comparison. These test provide unbiased results as the numbers speak for the performance of each unit. My tests show that this charger performed above average compared with the other car chargers I have tested. You will find the details of my tests below.

My methodology is to charge each mobile device on each port of the unit for 10 minutes and measuring how much each unit was charged in that 10 minute period. Each line in the table below represents a separate 10 minute test. I use Battery App by Elvison to determine how each device recognized the charging source. 'AC' status means the charging is at full charging rate. 'USB' status indicates charging at a lower charging rate. 'Discharging' status means that the charging rate is below the power that the device is consuming so it slows down the discharge rate but does not re-charge.

The charger has two ports labeled "1.0A" and "2.1A".

The table below summarizes my findings:

Nexus 7 Tablet

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.0A port.........AC power source.....4% change in charge in 10 minutes
2.1A port.........AC power source.....2% change in charge in 10 minutes
Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phone
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.0A port.........AC power source.....4% change in charge in 10 minutes

2.1A port.........AC power source.....3% change in charge in 10 minutes

➨ To summarize:

======================

✔ The charger has a good firm fit in the car charging port. It did not wobble or became dislodged on bumpy roads.

✔ This charger had one of the best performances in car chargers that I have tested

when you plug it in, the ports light up and you can easily read the 1.0A and 2.1A labels.

It is well made and the silicone bands make it easy to grip when removing.

This is definitely a sleek little car charger that is capable of charging a couple of your devices on the go. It's very light-weight and actually quite attractive with the blue stripes. It's a dual USB port charger that will support just about any device you need to take with you, including an iPad. You'll have to use your own 30-pin cord because this is the charger only.

The Tudia 3.1A Dual USB Car Charger offers up short circuit protection that gives me that bit of extra insurance I like. The ports are marked, but a bit difficult to see in certain lights. The spring-loaded prongs keep the charger in place very nicely. Altogether, it's a sleek little charger for the money. I like to keep a charger in my glove compartment just in case I need to charge on the go.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I plugged into my car outlet to get a fast charge for my iPod touch. Oh, no the phone is dead. My battery does not last as long as it did last year. No problem, This device comes with two USB ports. I just used the cable that came with it and gave my phone an IV. Even when you are alone, two is good.

The literature refers only to the $2500 device warrantee. I do not think I will ever need it, but it is nice to see Belkin has that level of confidence in its quality.

The box mentions only the iPod Touch and the iPhone. So I decided to try my iPad2, since it uses the same cable. Zip! I charged it up rapidly. And that is all there is to say, thank you very much.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This dual charger has two 1 amp ports that are sufficient for slow charging of iPods and iPhones, and not the more powerful 2.1 amp ports that many car chargers are starting to adopt. But my biggest problem with this product is that it does not have an indicator light to show that it is powered up. When I move my chargers to different cars, I want to know whether the charger socket in the car is always on, or if it's only on when the key is in the ignition. Each car handles this differently. Also without an indicator light, I don't know if a charger socket has a blown fuse or not. I just rented a car recently and it had a blown fuse, and I was able to figure this out quickly because my charger had an indicator light. Belkin stripped off a vital feature in this very basic charger.

Best Deals for Belkin Dual USB Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch with 3 ft Sync

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program On a recent trip to the shore, we tried out this charger and it is was especially handy since it has the two USB ports. I have another brand of dual USB charger for the car, but it is almost twice as long -sticking out of the lighter quite far. This, by contrast, is such a nice small size, fitting much cleaner. It was able to charge both my iPhone 4 and my wife's 4S. I even plugged in the iPad 2 for a while, which actually did slowly charge (the iPad OEM charger puts out about twice as many amps). The cable that comes with it seems to be high quality and sturdy. The connector fits snug and doesn't easily fall out like many other non-Apple connectors.

In case it doesn't say elsewhere, it provides 5 volts with 1 amp to each USB port, so any other devices you have will work with this, too, as long as it doesn't need more than 1 amp. For those giving lower rating on this "iPod Touch charger" because it won't charge their Android phone or some other device, that is unfair. This will give 1 amp of current -check your device's requirements before expecting this to do more than advertised.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the design and quality and it will have a happy home in our cars for years to come.

Honest reviews on Belkin Dual USB Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch with 3 ft Sync

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm somewhat baffled that someone hasn't thought of this before (maybe they have, and I just haven't noticed though). This is a great idea, especially for long trips in the car. We've got an iPad and several iPhones, and often find ourselves in need of having multiple devices charged at once. The included 3 feet cable is a decent size cable, and feels well made for a cable. The connector for the iPhone/iPod/iPad seems to be a big longer than I'm used to for my standard charger I got from Apple, but in some ways that makes it easier to pull out of the device.

The many times I've used this charger I've found it to work as expected. Even when two devices are plugged into the USB ports, they seem to charge just fine. All in all, it works as expected. Is a solid cable, nice to have two ports instead of one, and does the job it's meant to. Pricing is a little on the high side, but that is somewhat expected with a name brand like Belkin. You can't go wrong otherwise.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Belkin Dual USB Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch with 3 ft Sync

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've already found this Belkin dual USB car charger to be very handy and not just for i-stuff. So many items charge via USB these days so that stuff can be plugged into this outlet as well though I've found the charging times are not as consistent compared to the apple products. In addition to Apple products I've charged Android phones and a Kindle Fire alot of my non-apple charges devices already have cords that can be removed from their electric outlet charge plug and simply be plugged into this belkin car plug.

So really, anyone that has USB-charging devices might as well get this type of car plug and skip buying a collection of dedicated car charging devices save yourself from accumulating too many cords strewn around your house and garage.

My one gripe would be that at $25 this is a bit pricey compared to several other car usb plugs I have purchased (you can search them on amazon). All in all a good product and I give it 4 stars out of 5 in consideration of price/ value.

Like other customers, I experience a stalled charger, exhibiting an F05 error, which means the battery is bad. However . . . there's nothing wrong with this new battery. The problem is the charger. It works fine for a day or two, then gets stuck with an F05 error. People not keeping an eye on the chargers will find themselves with a dead battery at the end of winter. Only way it works is to 1) unplug it, then plug it back in so it starts over, or 2) return it for a different brand that actually works. I'm going with #2.

UPDATE:

I wanted to know what actually happen when I have only one or two charge lights on (not blinking); is it charging in this case? So today I rigged up some

plug and I connected a power analyzer between the storage battery and the pannel. I placed the solar pannel against the window so I don't have direct sun light.

in this set up, I got two non-blinking charge lights and the power analyzer reported a current of 0.0 to 0.03 Amp entering the storage battery (most of the time,

there is no current at all). So this means that when the charging lights are not blinking even if they are on, there is not much charging going on.

On the other in direct sun light, it is different. In this case, the lights are blinking and I can get something like 0.3 to 0.5 Amp.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------------

I always have the storage battery (one that came with the backpack) plugged into the pannel. I found that even when I am not using the battery to charge anything,

it will drain quickly when it is not being charged in the sun light. For example after being out of the sunlight for 12 hours, I lost one charge light. It went

from 4 charge lights to 3. I do not like the almost-to-nothing documentation that came with this product. It never explain any of this. Why is the battery

drain too quickly when I am not using it?

------------------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE:----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I finaly get enough summer sun light to test this backpack charging ability. This is what I found. The storage battery's charging lights will only be blinking

sequentialy (indicating that the battery is being charged) when in direct sun light. When not in direct sun light (like near a window), the charging lights are not blinking, but one or sometime two charging lights will be on. What

does this means in this case? Is the battery being charged in this case? I really do not know (the documentation is not clear on this). I assume

that the battery is being charged at low capacity (at least I hope that is the case) and I also assume that

the number of lights that are on indicate the charging capacity.

Also even in direct sun light, the solar panel's output charging current is not as high as the current drawn by the cell phone so when I am charging my Nokia cell

phone while walking or riding my bike in direct sun light, the storage battery will be drain. This means that my cell may not be completely charged and the

storage battery may be completely drained. This is especially true if the storage battery is not fully charged at the start of a charging session. This is disapointing because what is the point if I have to fully charged the storage battery at home before begining a trip. I would like to be able to charge my cell and still have enough excess current to charge the storage battery as well. The longer I use this backpack, the more I am disapointed with its performance.

------------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE----------------------------------------

Well I have been using this backpack for 4 months now and it is ripped in a dozen places. I have had it repaired three time

now. I am not happy! Please do not buy this product. I am lucky I am traveling outside the US where there are many shops

that will repaire my backpack. In the US where there is no such repair shops, this backpack would have been completely useless and I would

have thrown it away after a few months of use. I do not recomend buying this backpack.

------------------------------------PREVIOUS UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to the winter I have not be able to test the solar charging feature. But the backpack fabric quality is terrible!

When I ordered this backpack, I picked the charcoal pennel. But I got an email from the seller telling me that they "accidentally"

shipped the silver pennel. They wanted to know if that is OK or I can wait two extra days and they will ship me the charcoal pennel.

I thought it's not a big deal so I say OK, I'll take the silver one.

Well when I got the backpack, it had a small wear near the pennel zipper that made it hard to zip an unzip the pennel pocket. I was not

happy but I did not want to deal with returning and reshipping so I let it go. I know, I can not say for sure that they intentionaly sent me

faulty backpack but I am saying I did get a weird feeling in this case. If my subspicion is correct, I think it is extremely unprofessional of

them.

I had not used the backpack until a month ago when I went on a 200km biking trip. On this trip the backpack fabric torned (ripped) in three places.

All near the front pocket. It was not the threading that got ripped. It was the fabric near the threading area the got ripped) Fortunately, I was traveling in an Asian city where they can repair backpack. Thus I had it repaired and it seems fine.

but I have to be very carefull to not load the backpack too much again.

I owned two other non-solar backpacks and I regularly overloaded ( to a much higher degree than I loaded the solar backpack) them for a year now and it never ripped.

It is winter time so I have not fully test the solar charging feature but where I was biking, there considerable sun light and my cell phone

almost completely drain the battery in the backpack. Thus at this point I don't have much confident in the solar charging feature but I will

wait until summer time to test in full direct sunlight and I will give an update.

Pro: It has adapters for almost everything! nice sturdy panels, plenty pockets and lots of space.

Works awesomely under the scorching Panamanian sun, finally getting something back out of all that sweating.

This backpack is light, carrying the battery and all of the extras it has.

You can separate the panels from the bag and put the panels where they can get more sunlight.

Cons: used the bag two times and it already ripped, i took it out just to walk around the city doing errands nothing too extreme and then I realized the second pocket from the panels back, just where the zipper starts, the stitches got loose and now I have like an Inch wide opening between the pocket and the zipper.

My phone(Samsung Galaxy S2) doesn't fit in the phone pocket on the shoulder strap.

TL;DR: Nice features, sturdy panels, lightweight, charges pretty fast under direct sunlight conditions, backpack could be better stitched. I will definitely go with a 2.0 version if it ever comes out.

I read a lot about other wall changers that could be purchased for under a few dollars but those had a habit of dying early on. After some research I ended up purchasing this. It works great with the Ipod Touch (3rd generation). It works GREAT !

I highly recommend this product so you can move it from car to car
