I was slightly concerned at first because of the 3.1A rating I did not want to overload my phone. After receiving the product it says the output is 5.0V, up to 2100mA per port. This is exactly the same as iPad charger. The 3.1A is the total output if you have multiple devices plugged in. I've used this a couple times and it works great. Now my wife and I both can charge our iPhones in the car. Also anyone with an iPhone 5 can use this with the new lightning usb cable to charge their phone on the go.

The charger is well designed, has a matte black finish that has a slight rubber feel to it, not the cheap gloss plastic feel that most car chargers have. It's not bulky either and has a nice blue LED on the side when it has power.

I also like the generic design of the USB charger you can use this for any device, whether it be an android phone that has a micro USB input, an iPhone/iPod/iPad with a 30-pin connector, or the iPhone 5 and new iPods with the lightning connector. Many chargers claim a 2A output, but that only holds true for ipads. This charger will actually output 2A for non-ipads/iphones. I use my Galaxy Nexus LTE to stream Pandora while using Google Navigation, and the charger is still able to charge about 7% per half hour. I am so happy with this purchase that I plan to get another one for my wife's car.

I bought these solar panels to use on a backwoods trip to keep the Sherpa 120 battery Goal0 11102 Sherpa 120 Battery charged that I used to run a CPAP machine while I sleep. Since this would be running a medical device, I felt it was important to know I could trust the system.

I carefully measured (using a Kill-a-Watt) the power my CPAP was consuming and knew that in good conditions the battery as found in the Sherpa 120 should last nearly 3 nights, so the solar panels wouldn't need to fully charge the system in a single day. I have also measured the CPAP using (using a Watts-Up) when running directly from 12v and it consumes about 30 watts a night (vs 37watts a night on 120v).

In field testing and subsequent follow up this is how I would rate the solar panels. These panels delivered the full 27 watts and worked well, actually charging my system quicker than I had anticipated. When solar charging the Sherpa 120 battery it takes longer than it does to charge from Grid power. To get the most from your solar panels, you'll need to adjust the panels to face the sun 2-3 times in a day. This was especially important for me when we were in a forest and the sun moving through the day changes where you need to be to get them in the sunlight. I was able to top off my system in a full day of Arizona sun using the Nomad 27 solar panels.

The panels fold up nicely which allows storage during transit and backpacking. On boating and a recent canoe trip, I packed the panels and battery in a Coleman dry bag for safety from the water. Coleman 29x13 Dry Gear Bag

The system is nicely rugged and in my case even blew over and down some rocks with no damage. I bought the available silicone sleeve for the battery which is a nice way to protect your investment. Use tent stakes in the provided grommet holes to keep things from blowing around. Focus on using 12v loads directly and make sure you are running your necessary equipment as efficiently as possible to maximize your run times. If you can get away without using an inverter, all of your devices will run longer from a fixed battery capacity, plus your weight will be physically lighter.

I currently own a number of the Goal Zero line. I have two 13.5 Nomad panels, a Nomad 7 and now, a 27 watt. In addition, I have a couple Estrella lights and a couple Light-a-life, a Sherpa 120 and various accesories. In short, the system works well and the watt hours are quite accurate. The system has seen me through various backpack and camping trips. It was great to be able to power up laptops while climbing. The lights were a welcome addition to an anniversary dinner in the wilderness. The Battery lives on my bike to power lights, sound and charge my phone while I ride.

The thing I appreciate most about the system is how compact it is. It is very solid and light (relatively) for the amount of power it offers. People have stood on the panels. The battery was dropped on the street from my bike. (bad securing on my part.) They've been in the rain and the battery had taken a small dunk in a creek and kept on running.

Like another review had noted, the unique connector ports did put me off at first. But the connections all are strong except for the bendable short connectors for the Estrella lights.

I found a great price for the Nomad 27 and jumped on it. I'm now able to charge the Nomad in a few hours. All of the panels fit into a small pannier on the bike.

Overall, a great product on a mostly superb line of products.

This is the original Motorola car charger and is the only one you should consider. It works well and seems to have good protection so that you can start your car with it plugged in without frying your phone or the charger itself.

The Motorola logo on the end of it lights up when it's plugged in, which looks very cool especially at night. I was pleasantly surprised by this as well as the performance and build quaility.

I can't vouch for the company shipping it out promptly since mine was included as part of my RAZR phone bundle but I would recommend this charger to anyone with a RAZR or PBLE phone.

I recently bought a portable fan that uses 8 D-cells with an option to use an AC to 12volt adapter. Since AC power is not usually available where I use the fan, I wanted an external, rechargeable 12 volt source. I cut the 12 volt plug with cable from the AC adapter and attached it to the battery with slide clips. With the cost of good quality D-cells, this should pay for itself pretty quickly.

Only way this unit would be worth anything is as a last resort. Even in full sun it rarely generates more then 120 mA and 80 mA is probably the average and the slightest wisp of cloud drops it to near zero. With todays 2000-2750 mAH rechargeable batteries this unit would take 125 hours to charge 4 2500 mAH batteries. Assuming 6 hours of "full" sun a day at 80 mA it would take almost 21 days to charge those four batteries. Real world would be more likely a month.

Like I said, maybe if it was all I had, but there are better places to spend your money.

I bought one of these several years ago and am surprised these are still made.

As someone has already mentioned, this unit doesn't provide a lot of power. You're really looking at weeks to completely charge a set of batteries and that's if you have a place that gets sun most of the day. Having it inside a window causes a pretty significant drop in amps, but leaving it outside for weeks isn't a great alternative either. Obviously partial charges and top ups may work for some people, but for most this is just not efficient enough.

But another big problem with this unit is the batteries are in a closed plastic case in the sun. Heat degrades rechargable batteries and I doubt any manufacturer would recommend it for such an extended period as this solar charger requires. I don't feel comfortable with how hot they get as it probably shortens the battery lifespan. There's a platicky smell when it heats up. There really should be an air gap and a more open case that allows excess heat to be carried away.

With two big flaws, I think people should apply their money toward a better charger, even if more expensive.

Most riders have these Deltran sockets hanging off their batteries, so I ordered an extra socket end and a 12v socket to build one. Genius, I thought. Use what's already wired in to the bike, and create my own charger.

Great product, works as advertised. A couple of small things that keep me from giving 5 starts:

1) There's no cover for the quick disconnect plug. The battery connector -to which this adapter connects through the quick disconnect -has a small plastic cover that protects the plug from water, dirt, etc. Would have been great to have such a cover on this unit as well.

2) The female cigarette adapter offers no resistance when you put a male plug in or out. It still sits firmly in the socket but a traditional car cigarette adapter offers some resistance when you pull the plug out, so somehow this feels a bit flimsy, but hasn't really given me any problems.

I recently purchased the iPod 4-in-1 super charger, and have used it regularly since. It provides four ways to charge your iPod (ac outlet plug, auto cigarette lighter, usb direct to computer, and 9 volt battery)all in one unit. I have used all but the 9 volt battery power input, and they all work quickly and easily. It is a great design, with even the power ac plug folding into the unit when not being used. The description said that this item fits "iPod 1st thru 5th Generations." Not so! Imagine my surprise and disappointment when my daughter held the charging plug up against her new, 5th gen iPod Touch and showed me that the plug was too long for the iPod. It does fit earlier generations (at least 2nd gen). So, I gave the device away to a niece who has a 2nd generation iPod. I suppose one could buy an adapter to convert the large, 30-pin size to the smaller size of the latest generation iPod. But that sort of defeats the purpose.

This is good if you need a 20a charger to recharge a battery fast and the ability to charge a small battery at 2a. However it's not good for keeping a battery at float charge. It has a feature to excercise (partially discharge) the battery at regular intervals. These intervals are too often and not deep enough (deep cycle Batt. needs a minimum of 10% discharge before regharge)I would recommend removing charger after charge and replacing once a mo. It would also have been nice if the display showed voltage and charge state at the same time. I wish I had just stayed with Schumacher chargers.

I research battery chargers extensively needing a real good one to maintain my 2 AGM house batteries on my RV during times I do not use it or if I run down the batteries too much for the RV built in charger/inverter to do the recharge job well. This was the best excluding the one that was similar that costs 3 times the price. Good quality longer lasting, higher amperage (200 and up) AGM batteries are so expensive (a pair of 6 volt ones hooked in series easily cost $500) that using a cheaper charger on them that is not temperature compensated is false economy.

I've had the chance to use the Solar PL2320 battery charger 4 times now, comparing it against my old standby Century 87105 2/10/55 amp battery charger. I like to Solar for the fact that it displays % of charge and charging voltage when charging and when not charging it shows the % of charge of and battery voltage. The charger is also nice in that there are 3 charging protocols: one for conventional flooded lead-acid batteries, one for Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM) and one for Gel-type batteries. I frankly don't know what the differences are but I did notice that the % of charge noted for the battery I had it hooked up to changed when I cycled through the battery types on the charger. The overall charger is solid with cord wraps for both the charging cables and the power cables. Both sets of cables are approximately 5 feet in length. The charging process varies in time not only based on state of charge but also based on the charger's 'multi-phase' charging protocol. The charger doesn't simply apply a charge to the battery and shut off at 100%, it actually goes through a multi-step process that includes applying a load onto the battery reducing the state of charge slightly and then charges again. As I understand it, this helps with reducing sulfation. The charger is fan cooled and the fan, when running, is noticeable but isn't loud (maybe as loud as a computer fan). Overall a very good charger and in my opinion worth the money based on build quality, charge protocol sophistication and battery information provided.
