The CTEK line of lead acid automotive battery chargers is built around a comparatively high quality interconnect between the charger cord and the battery. Ctek uses a quality socket for this purpose with an o-ring gasket to prevent water infiltration and a rubber cover that keeps foreign matter out. This is in stark contrast to other battery charger systems with rings or alligator clips which use just a 2 terminal plug, one being insulated and one being exposed metal. After one season of weather these tend to corrode due to the 12V between them and the ability for water to get into the connector without any gaskets.

Fortunately CTEK adopted their quality gasketed interface across all products, and included some unique features along the way. All chargers use one gender and all batteries or things to be charged use a the opposite gender with a rubber cap to protect it when the charger is disconnected. The interface features a snap to hold the two halves together .

For connecting to the battery they make 6, 8 and 10 mm rings, alligator clips, and 2 very special connectors, this being one of them. The second special connector is the CTEK 56-380 Comfort Indicator Panel. Both this input which terminates in 8mm rings and the 56-380 which snaps into most import dash DIN outlets providing you with a convenient place to plug in your CTEK charger (any model) include a blinking (about 1 blink/second) red-yellow-green LED which indicates the present battery level.

How do they do it? For Lead Acid (and also other lead chemistry including SLA, lead calcium, and optima batteries) the standardized test is to charge a battery and desulphate if needed (CTEK has a patented charging system which includes desulphating pulses). Second, the battery is allowed to rest for 24 hours with no charging and no load on the cell. After 24 hours resting a voltage measurement is made which determines how "full" the battery is. The simple rule of thumb (and this is by no means perfect) is that 12.00VDC means the battery is dead while 12.80 means the battery is 100% charged. The scale between 12.00 and 12.80 is roughly linear allowing the observer to determine the state of charge to a rough degree of certainty assuming a linear relationship. 12.40 volts after 24 hours of non-use would indicate the battery is 50% charged and would blink the yellow LED on the 3 LED display. Over 12.5V usually blinks the green LED and below 12.3V blinks the Red indicating you would be wise to charge now.

The only difference in this part of the CTEK system and the one I purchased is the form factor. This accessory does everything mine does but it is for battery systems without a din standard dash (where you would use the 56-380 panel mount charge jack and indicator) here the indicator and charge jack are in a "blob" at the end of 55 cm of cable designed to be wired to the battery. All CTEK features and quality are designed into this accessory.

If you need to be able to connect your charger fast and don't want to have to connect it to battery post every time like I didn't then I highly recommend getting this.. I have a very loud after market stereo system in my truck and this made it very easy to connect my charger when my Optima yellow top battery is a little drained from my subwoofers beating the doors off.

This is a great product! installs very easy and tells you what your batteries condition is... and if you need to charge it, you just plug it in to your ctek charger and your good to go.

NOTE*** I read a review that the person stated they had 3 of these and they were terrible and they couldn't believe the same company made these as the ctek chargers. Not to sound rude, but I believe they did not understand how they work... It says in the directions that you must wait about 30 min after any battery use, (charging or discharging) before the indicator will be correct. I have hooked up several from my boat, UTV and vehicle's and they all work perfectly. I love these things. You must understand how they work before you give bad inaccurate reviews.

I bought one for myself and one for my husband. He charges his Droid bionic and I have a iPhone 5. I do have to use my adapter since the kit didn't have an attachement for the 5 yet. It charges with a USB on your computer so I plug it in at work when it needs a charge. Blue light when its charging, red when its fully charged. Then it comes with a little sock to store it in. Has all the bells and whistles and easy to hook up but make sure you use 4 gauge cable and a 140-150 AMP Circuit Breaker I found one at a local Custom Car install place in town for $20. You must allow a high amount of power to it but that is true with all Inverters at 1000 Watts. SMARThome (who I got mine from)Is not an authorized reseller and you will NOT be able to get Tech Support from the manufacturer nor do they offer support, unless bought from an Authorized Dealer you get no support. I like the 4 outlets and the LED read out, but the fans are loud and getting louder, which has me concerned. Another negative, the fans constantly run instead of just running when the inverter is hot. With the exception of the fans, it appears to be a well made unit.

It is a DC charger. It charges my phone. It is inexpensive. What more could you ask for? It shipped quickly. It retracts nicely. This is what you want. I bought 7 of them for all my cars and boats. They all work perfectly. I have only had them for a month, so I can not speak for the longevity of this product. I can't think of anything negative to say about this.

This car charger is very poor quality. After waiting what seemed forever for it to arrive, I was very disappointed. It feels like cheap brittle plastic and, it turns out, it IS cheap brittle plastic. After using it about 5 or 6 times in the mont I've had it the casing on the mini-usb plug broke making the unit unusable.

I am extremely pleased with the performance of this solar panel. We have one installed in a small cabin style 12-volt system intended only to charge personal electronics at a remote location. Just add a deep cycle battery and a DC to AC 120 power inverter, such as the Cobra CPI 480 400-Watt 12-Volt DC to 120-Volt AC Power Inverter with 5-Volt USB Output. It is great!

One WARNING for those new to such systems like we were. The charge controller that comes with this kit is just fine, but it is only for *MAINTAINING* a 12 volt battery. If that is your purpose, buy *this* kit.

But, if you want to add an inverter so that you can have AC, USB (and we even added a 12 volt car socket which is the most efficient), then buy the same panel *without* the charge controller and wiring kit. What you need is a charge controller like the Kintrex SPC0601 7 Amp 100 Watt 12 Volt Solar Power Charge Controller, and various connectors of course. The Sunforce controller only has connections for the solar panel and the battery. The Kintrex adds a load connector for power output which isolates the charge controller and gives you usable power output to your inverter. If you try to parallel the battery connection to your devices like I naively did, you risk overcharging your battery. (I vented a little hydrogen and oxygen, but did not do it long enough to ruin my battery.)

I will definitely be buying more of these panels for other projects. Once you understand the fairly simple wiring you can easily create a great low power system for a cabin. (Next, we will build a 60 or 90 watt system...)

HiI bought this set-up to keep my Motorhome charged when not using it. It is only 15 watts so can barely keep the battery up to charge if I am actually using any lights or other stuff but it will keep up with the draw of the refridgerator and minimal stuff. My only beef is the controller wires could have all been pre-terminated with connectors rather than having me do that. This was bought as a kit so it would have been nice if there was a connector on the input side of the controller that mated witht he connector on teh solar panel and a different style connector on the output that would be compatible with the cigarette-lighter adapter, etc. In other wordsall set up to just plug in and go.

Once I soldered and shrinkwrapped the new connectors on I'm pretty happy with it. Not everyone has the ability to properly terminate the wires.

I purchased this combo for off grid minimal lighting needs with high hopes. Package arrived dented, but contents appeared OK. Open circuit voltage on solar panel OK at 22v. However, max power output on sunny day was 1.6w (130mA@ 12.3v). This was on a day that my conventional 2.7kW system was producing 1.8kW. My plan is to return and try again, but purchasers should definitely check output.

The vehicle has been unpluged from my 115V house access all summer.

I will say that it is a slow charge.

I was originally pleased with this purchase until, after about four months of use, the panel simply stopped working. There was no apparent damage and I carefully checked every connection for continuity. When I contacted customer service they replied by asking about the settings on my multimeter. I explained the situation to them but received no further response. I know how difficult it can be to troubleshoot a technical problem over the phone or by email but they didn't even try. It seemed like a good product at first but now it only functions as an overpriced door stop.

I bought this bag to contain my REI trekking poles and keep all the parts in one place. Although this bag is listed as "small" it easily holds the 32" poles. There is a small pocket on the flap that can be used to hold the pole baskets and the point covers. Bag is well made, good weight material, with an extra piece sewn into the bottom to prevent the poles from poking through bottom of the bag. This was my first retractable cord car charger and I am very pleased. No more messy tangled cords and compact enough to transport on you if you are changing cars.

Update 12/1/2011: I had to replace this charger with another one and have tried a different brand this time. The micro USB adapter became detached from the cord. It wears out from pulling the cord out and this seems to be the weakest point for any of these types of chargers. Although, it's been awhile since I purchased this product, I only used it on weekends when traveling so if you plan on using this more often or even daily be careful to not tug the cord out using the micro USB adapter but wiggle down to the cord itself and pull it out that way. You'll probably get more mileage out of it by pulling it out this way and that's what I'm doing with the different charger that I ordered just to play it safe.

Don't buy this product. The wall charger ruined my cell phone battery. I purchased it because I lost my wall charger while on vacation. I had no prior problems with my cell phone battery. Once I used this to charge my battery, after leaving it plugged in all night, it did not completely charge my battery. Now the battery will only last less than 1/2 a day. Prior to using this charger my cell phone battery lasted at 2-4 days per charge depending on my phone usage. Now, I am lucky if it last a 1/2 day and that's with very minimal cell phone use. I have had to purchase a new cell phone battery.

When my dog chewed through my samsung reality usb cord, I needed a replacement. Verizon probably would have charged me 15 bucks just for the usb CORD.
