Regardless of what the Amazon listing says (and I asked them to change it over a month ago and still haven't) this product is NOT weatherproof. When you open the package the literature about the product specifically states that it is "not for use outdoors". You have to pay more to get a weatherproof model.

I bought this unit for my daughter. She drives about twice a month and for not more than 4 miles or so. About every six months her battery would go dead and she would have to getit recharged. She parks out side with the car facing north so with this unit mounted on the rear shelf it gets the sunshine most of the day and keeps her battery charged. Keep in mind that this unit produces enough amperage to keep the battery charged but so little it would take almost forever to charge a dead battery if at all. It does an excellent job for what it was designed for.The term trickle charger is a misnomer. A better term would be a battery charge maintainer. Maximum output is 1/10th of an amp.

Biggest waste of cash I ever made.

I set it up in the windshield of my 2007 Mazda 3, whenever I took the key out the car would make an angry alert noise until I unplugged the charger from the lighter. Then after about 3 day of this it just stopped working. Not sure if it shorted out or what, maybe I got a defective model, or maybe it's just not compatible with a 2007 Mazda3...whatever the reason, this piece of crap stopped working after only a couple of days, I feel ripped off.

This is a product that is as good as its owner. I have a huge battery that runs a phone with a 6" screen. I couldn't find a wall charger for it so I got one of these.

I had to break the top of the spring loaded battery holder to make it fit. Since there was no longer a spring loaded battery holder, I substituted a rubber band and it works fine.

The battery leads have to be the right distance apart and it helps to have something to hold the battery up so it is parallel as it sits on the leads. I rolled up some scotch tape and stuck it on the other end from the leads. Then I attached the rubber band to hold it all together. The lights blinked blue and amber. When the blinking stops it should be done.

One trick is to wrap electricians tape around it to hold the leads in place so they don't spread. Granted, that makes it not universal, but just get one for each phone. They are less than $4. It works and it's the best option I have found.

I got this from eBay with 2 batteries (so practically for free) for my 6-year old ghetto phone with a broken charger port. Out of the box, it will look like they sent you the wrong one: there are no instructions and the battery probably won't fit in or line up with anything. So I looked it up online, and here's how to use it:

1. The bottom battery support swivels/rotates, so if your battery charges from the side, you'll have to pull it back and rotate it.

2. Pull back the crazy spring-loaded bottom battery support and put in your battery. Doesn't matter which way (front facing/back facing) I'm pretty sure it auto-detects "+" and "-" electrodes. I've tried it both ways, and it works either way.

3. Slide the posts so that they line up with the leftmost and rightmost contacts of the battery. The LED will glow a steady red when you've done it right.

4. Plug the unit in. The LED will blink red and blue.

5. In a few HOURS when your battery is fully charged, the LED will glow a steady red again. The light is just annoyingly bright enough to get you to want to unplug the unit and remove the battery, which is probably a good thing.

The spring at the bottom battery support is crazy strong/stiff, and I'm pretty sure I'll be breaking the posts on this unit very soon, while trying to line them up each time. I'll eventually be gluing these posts in place (so much for it being universal), but I'll still have to contend with that crazy spring. This thing works, but they make drop-in chargers that are specific to the battery (the black ones), where you would just drop the battery into a fitted cradle with the pins already in place, pretty much like you would into your phone these would probably be easier to deal with. The ones with the clips might be better as well, if they'd let you clip your battery in, position the pins, then slide the battery up. Having a RAPID-charging feature would be nice too I don't remember my batteries ever taking as long to charge as they do on this unit.

Build quality is probably as good as all the other cheap chargers that look like this one. There's a USB port on the side that I haven't played with yet, but I'm pretty sure it's for charging a USB device while you're charging a battery (power out), not for powering the unit (power in). But even if it CAN power the unit, I don't think I can handle it charging any slower than it does now (lower mAh = slower charging). But hey, it works and I can still use my dying phone, which otherwise works the way I want it to and has all my stuff in it.

I ran an incondesnt dome light that would trip the, I assume, amperage overprotection in the charge controller if I left it on after awhile, but never killed the battery. Then I hooked up an led light strip and left it on and the charge indicator on the solar controller still showed green. I stilluse the dome light for another room that I use less. Don't get me wrong I know this is a very feature limited unit and I am one of those people who can find their way around just about anywhere without a paper map. I have a built in compass and can get the feel and layout of a metro area in less than a day, so I was pretty skeptical about the utility of these devices. boy was I wrong. Without a doubt its pretty useless, for instance, on I-95 going from New York to Miami its pretty hard to get lost on one thousand miles of straightaway, but the great thing about this is when you have to go off path. Everyone would prefer to skip the roadside gas stations and pull off into Florence a couple miles to find gas at local retail as opposed to full pit-stop price, or how about a better meal than McDonald's, maybe your wife would prefer to stay at a seaside hotel in Savannah instead of the Motel-6 along the interchange? You don't have to worry about getting lost or detoured by unfamiliar terrain anymore. No more missed turns, looping round-abouts, one way dead ends. Sure, you still have to use your common sense with the gadget, but the only time I missed my destination was when I failed to make the turn it recommended because it didn't look right. I bought the Magellan Roadmate GPS because the viaMichellin I had owned for 4 months stopped working. They would not repair it so I went to a name I can trust, Magellan. My unit has performed without a flaw and I highly reccommend it to anyone. It gives me the instructions at least 2 miles in advance of a turn. On a freeway at 75 mph this is very important. The unit is light and the screen s ery easy to read. I love it!

I received this product as a wedding gift. It is portable, takes a while to update maps and stopped charging after a year. Not what I was expecting after a year of use. When I called the help desk, I was told since I didn't have a receipt and it was over a year (2 weeks over a year), I would have to buy a new product. They offered a preferred "loyalty" program, which for the same price as a new device you can get a refurbished model, some "loyalty" program. I don't use it everyday, just when needed, so it could have broke before a year, and I just didn't know. Spend the extra money and get a better unit.

I am a truck driver and purchased this three years ago. I have used it four or five days a week, six or eight hours per day, on average to use a heating pad on my back, run a large boom box to play cassette tapes, recharge cell phones and PDAs at various times. The fan noise that others mention was never a problem because the truck is quite loud, but I never had trouble with overheating or overloading like I did with smaller inverters with no fan. Seems to work just fine -have only used it for cell phone and small game units. The advantage of this smaller unit is no fan quiet. Some devices will require the power of the larger (noisy fan) model. Low cost inverters such as this produce electric power that is an approximate sine wave as opposed the perfect sine wave that come out of a wall outlet -as far I know this isn't a problem for typical consumer electronic equipment, laptops etc -but it's probably worth checking the user manual of the device to be powered just to make sure there are no precautions about using it with an inverter. However, the AC motors in things like power tools and appliances may run a bit lest efficiently when connected to an (inexpensive) inverter.

We've used this with a variety of cell phone/ipod/handheld game chargers and so far haven't experienced any problems.

Do buy this product, but do plan on spending another well spent $45 dollars on battery cables and clamps, etc. The cig lighter connector is just a convenience and not able to pull the full 375 watts. I spent plenty for twin copper #10 wire and pricy connectors to mount this bad boy inside my van. But it remains the best bang for the buck device. You must pay the extra for heavy amp wireing to your truck battery. Get wise, buy this, then spend again for 12 volt supply wireing and you will never be sorry, and always have power!

I purchased the solar panel to charge the batteries on my travel trailer. The plastic connector box on the back of the unit was debonded when I received the unit. The vender gave me a choice of returning it or gluing it back on myself for a partial refund (twice the shipping cost). I purchased some silicone adhesive and successfully glued it back on. The HQRP 10 amp controller was also purchased. Special MC4 connectors are required to connect to the panel. I purchased a 30 ft MC4 extension cable from another vender which I cut in half. This provided enough wire to connect from the trailer roof to the controller and then to the battery. The controller would not accept the Number 10 wire, so I had to break off three strands to make it fit into the connector. I also purchased 4 brackets to mount the panel to the trailer roof. The unit was sufficient to make my trailer batteries last for a week while camping at Lake Tahoe. The controller showed charging current as soon as it was light in the morning until dark.

I'm impressed with the frame, tempered glass, and sealed electronics of this panel. Furthermore, I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of this panel in not-so-bright light conditions. Very solid design, and I found that the output was not terribly sensitive to being installed at sub-optimum angles relative to the sun. I'll be adding more of this exact product to an array, over the next year or two. Advice: Plan ahead and get a larger-than-you-need Charge Controller, so that you have the option of adding more panels later on. Note: The shipper requries In-Person signatures for delivery, and I ended up having to take a day off of work to be able to be home for the delivery. FedEx was (understandably so) *very* strict about enforcing the shipper's policy, in this regard.

I purchased this solar panel in the spring. After 6 months of use on my sailboat it is still putting out good power and shows no signs of corrosion.

I have a link 2000 battery monitor and it shows over 3 amps of charge when the sun is high. It starts charging soon as any light is on it. 1 amp on a cloudy day.

The aluminum frame makes it easy to mount on a bracket or fabricate your own(thats what I did).

The item that I received was not the item specified in the listing. It was a shoddy, inferior, cheap, non-working substitute. I wrote a complaint to the seller and he immediately refunded my money without me even asking for a refund. He told me to keep the two chargers. I wrote back, trying to be fair with him, stating that the items have at least some value and offered to meet him halfway, and sent my check for half of the original amount of the items and shipping. He declined to cash my check. Although the item was listed in error by the seller, I honestly believe that he made a simple mistake in the listing and was not attempting to dupe or mislead anyone. The seller demonstrated the highest level of business integrity with his generous offer of a solution to the problem. I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

By the way, the chargers do NOT work well. The USB plug at the end of the cord to charge the phone is not of high quality and improperly sized. The connection to the phone is extremely sensitive to insertion and movement and leads to a constant charge-no charge condition, with the latter being prevalent. So if anyone is purchasing this charger, insist on the true original Motorola product and do not accept any cloned imitation or substitute. The difference in quality and performance is vast.

I don't have a lot of experience with solar panels (yet) but I know enough about volts, amps and wires to run this one through some quick tests. Part of the problem I'm having right now is that I'm in Wisconsin and it's wintertime. I attempted one test with an Ohmite power resistor load and a Fluke meter and sunlight filtering through my windows in the afternoon. That try was a complete bust. Lesson #1: If the entire panel isn't illuminated, forget about getting any usable current.

Before trying the panel again, I obtained a WattsUp meter plus a 10-ohm 50-watt rheostat and made everything connectible with Anderson Powerpoles for quick, reliable connection and disconnection. The WattsUp meter is very handy because there are a couple different ways to put it in-circuit between the panel and rheostat to get continuously-updating DC power measurements on just the one meter.

When I finally had a clear day without utterly freezing weather I laid everything out on the driveway and hooked it up. The rheostat was dialed up to about eight ohms. It was 2:30 in the afternoon in early February so again, the sun was low. With the panel lying flat on the driveway the output was, as you would expect, abysmal (due to lousy angle of incidence). Even the voltage was low (eight volts). Once I tilted the panel up a bit though (and with nothing filtering or blocking light) I got usable current. Directly facing the sun, I was able to get 2.15 amperes at 17.0 volts (37 Watts) without messing with the rheostat. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time or an extra pair of hands to trim the rheostat and find the maximum power point, which I suspect was an ohm or two lower.

I should also mention that the shipping/packing on this item was better than expected and the aluminum frame is pretty typical. To summarize: Physically, it's a good unit. Electrically, I was a little surprised at how I had to dote on it (assuring 100% illumination on the panel and tilting/turning it) to get a couple amperes. Maybe my expectations were a little high in that regard. I'm learning...

After adding a 50 watt Ramsond panel my array now totals 470 watts. These panels are well constructed and easy to install. Output is very good even under cloudy conditions. Bang for the buck is excellent compared to Harbor Freight 15 watt panels. Plans are to add more Ramsond panels to reach at least 1000 Watts. Overall, these panels are excellent.

I then proceeded to combine them with a stainless steel piano hinge and added latches and a handle. Using 20' of 12g wire and Delphi weatherproof connectors I was able to create a 100W portable power setup that I could adjust if I were in a shaded area.

I bought one of these panels for my 22' Travel Trailer after talking to someone who had panels on their RV and I was amazed at how well it worked, I added a second panel, two new batteries, and a 1000 watt inverter and can now run most of the day (conservatively) during summertime in full sun without draining the batteries.

For trailers 100 watts to 200 watts is enough to get you off the grid, though you'll still need external power or a generator to run AC's, microwaves, or the AC outlets but we run lights, a 22" lcd, dvd player, satelite box, water pump, charge our cell phones, a rechargeable vacuum, and rechargeable led lantern, as well as running two fans at various times throughout the day without draining the batteries. I've had to run my generator only three times over the past two months and have not hooked up to external power at all since I added the second panel.

I'd like to add a third panel but the price has gone up quite a bit over the last few months ($135 to $169) so we're going to wait and see where the price goes.

This panel is as good as another somewhat larger 50 watt panel I purchased for over $220. I purchased this item this January for $130. I have watched the price climb over the last few months to the current price which is disappointing as I hoped to buy another panel for the same price as the other one I purchased. Too bad, because I like the smaller/lighter size than the other one I have.
