I really wanted to like this charger: Schumacher XC103 SpeedCharge Battery Charger with Engine Start. On paper it seems to do everything I need. The big problem is that it keeps generating an F06 error code when charging on the Fast Charge Rate setting. The manual says this means "The charger detected that the battery may be getting too hot (thermal runaway)." and that "The charger automatically shuts the current off if it detects the battery may be getting too hot or the battery may have a shorted cell. Have the battery checked or replaced." This means the charging is stopped before the battery is fully charged.

The charger generates the F06 code on two different brand new batteries. Also, if I use the Slow Charge Rate setting the same batteries charge just fine so I do not believe that the batteries are defective. There must be something wrong in the charging logic for the Fast Charge Rate setting.

I tried several times to get Schumacher customer support to help me resolve the problem. The Schumacher support staff is useless. They kept sending me the section from the manual that describes the F06 error code. I already knew this information; which I carefully explained on my initial e-mail to Schumacher and on all subsequent e-mails to Schumacher. They persisted in not answering any of my questions, but just resent the F06 error code section from the manual. When I finally insisted that the charger must be defective Schumacher finally agreed to replace the charger with a new or refurbished charger. Since I just bought the charger a refurbished charger was not an option in my opinion.

Another annoyance is the poorly designed cord storage system. Both the AC and the charging cables are very stiff making them difficult to coil. I'm not sure why the cables need to be this stiff. My old charger had cables that were much easier to coil and stow. In addition the two posts provided for cable storage on the back of the unit are totally inadequate for the task; they simply cannot hold both sets of cables (they barely hold just the AC cable) and it's way too much trouble to try and coil the wires around these posts. The only solution I found was to not use the cable storage posts at all and simply coil the wires. I then used a piece of twine or a velcro strap to keep them coiled (all in all this is a nuisance).

Based on thes problems and the extremely poor customer service, I regretfully decided to return the charger to amazon.com for a full refund.

The charger works great at charging up my auto car batteries. For a nearly dead battery (0.9 volts), it did not seem to charge as it should for the initial charge (shut down after a while and said it was at 80% charge). I then charged a 2nd time (actual charge at startup was then 40 %), and it charged it correctly. Most batteries charge within 1.5 hours time for autos. The LED yellow lights are very hard to see in the sunlight (they should change the color of these). My only complaint is that the clamps are low quality (cheap) and they should charge a few more dollars and install heavy duty (stronger) clamps.

I very much wanted to like this charger. After reading the reviews it was clear that trying it was a risk. It was one of the few that looked like it would charge an Optima Red Top 6V AGM battery.

Today I took my brand new (as in FedEx is still on the street) charger and hooked it to my equally new battery. Set it to "AGM" since that's what I have. Hooked up the clamps and it recognized the battery as 6 volts. Set it to "turtle mode" (low rate charge) to see what it would do. After about 4 minutes at 6V rather than deciding the battery was charged, it decided I have a 12V battery. Charge percentage went to zero and it showed 12V not 6V. I quickly pulled off the cables (they were warm).

Next I grabbed the Fluke 89 IV to see what's going on. Battery voltage with no charger was 6.426 volts. Set the charger to "snow flake" (trickle). Battery was recognized as 6V. It started doing something. After about 20 seconds the battery terminals were up to 9 volts. ThIe clamps read the same 9V. The internal voltmeter in the charger shows 6 volts. This is not a good thing. Optima (and most outfits) do not like you putting 9 volts on a 6 volt battery. Big spark when I pulled the clamp, so it's running a bit more than low current.

So what's going on? It's doing a high voltage cell equalization charge on an AGM. In the process of that it's getting confused about weather it's got a 12V or a 6V battery. You can do your own research about equalization on AGM's. Mine says it's not a good idea.

I put a (also brand new) Exide Road Force 12V AGM on to check this out. Set it to trickle and AGM. It recognized the 12V battery and took it up to 17.3V. I left it on and it droped back to 15.5V until full charge. It then went down to around 13.5V.

This thing *likes* to equalize AGM's. Double checked several times to be sure the AGM light was still on. Interestingly, to keep from alarming people, they don't show the 17.5V on the "battery voltage" display. They clamp it at 6 or 12 volts while they are monkeying around. The voltmeter is only accurate when it's not in charging mode.

Just for fun, I grabbed another (also brand new) Exide Road Force 12V AGM. This time I set the charger to "GEL" and "Trickle". The battery still zooms up to above 17V. It does not stay there as long as the AGM setting. It drops back about 14.5V on the second stage. The GEL setting does indeed do *something*. Weather you want to do this to your GEL cells is up to you. It's not clear weather the initial zoom charge is timed or current limited. Either way not good for GEL cells.

Bottom line only use this at 6V if you *really* like to blow up batteries or are going to watch it like a hawk (and have a voltmeter). It's probably fine for flooded (put water in them) batteries. It may / may not be a good idea for AGM's. I would not use it on GEL's.

I Used this for the first time the other day and it brought my dead DieHard Gold battery back to life after having left my lights on overnight. total charging time in the fast mode was 1.5 hours. I have used this in trickle mode and starting mode and all work perfectly .

Incredible buy, actually it was for my Samsung cell phone. For just a few dollars I got a car charger, a flexible rubber case for the phone and a USB PC wire. The USB wire was not for this phone however. Still the car chargers I saw for this phone were 3 or 4 times the cost of this one.

This car video camera is a good "entry level device", if you are just getting into video recording in your car.

Good value, what you do get, versus what you pay.

The Downside Potential: My expectations were apparently much higher than the functionality provided ih this device.

As I used it, I found myself creating a "Wish List" of Functionality, like "It would be nice if I did not have to push buttons while driving", etc. ie. (Voice Recognition commands would be nice, and probably much more expensive.) Another "Wish" which emerged, was... "How to capture in HD, tailgaters crawling up my trunk!". Some other car videos offer two lens, one facing front, and one facing rear. I am not sure how effective a rear-facing lens would work from the rear-view mirror over my dashboard. Many drivers in Russia and Japan are using these dash cam's to provide evidence in litigation involving accidents. So, this camera is better than nothing!

I have used this product many times over the years and have never been disappointed. I always keep an unopened pack with me whether on the road or parked. If you've never used the product, the short 8 9 minute mix & setup time might surprise you even though the instructions are quite clear about this ... mix for no more than 2 minutes and apply immediately. Expert tip ... mix small quantities not the entire packet and do the repair in stages as needed. The packets/pouches are designed to be mixed before opening, but you can cut a corner off each pouch and dispense as little as is needed. A couple of clothes pins can be used to reseal the pouches temporarily. The pack comes with an applicator brush but it can only be used once ... a used-but-clean toothbrush will work just as well. An RV vacation/trip can be spoiled by a punctured holding tank this product can save the day. Great product.

its messy, and you should wear gloves. I patched a rather wide crack in my windshield washer fluid tank on my car. I wanted to try this fiberglass patch before i went looking for a junkyard or aftermarket tank, and started removing components under the hood. I watched a few youtube videos on how to patch fiberglass, and i was able to do a rather nice job on the tank i needed to patch.

I recommend this for anyone who knows what they're doing. Its a good solution to an annoying problem

I recently purchased this Sunlinq 12 foldable solar panel to charge up my Tekkeon MyPowerAll 3450 battery pack while out backpacking. When I connected this panel to my voltage meter I was getting about 15 volts and 900mA under full sun. This is plenty of power to juice up any of my gadgets that are able to charge via 12-volt cigarette adapter. It charges my Sony PSP, my daughters Nintendo DS, powers my GPS unit, cell phone, my MP3 player...just a great piece of kit to have in an emergency situation when there is NO electricity or hook-ups. The panel itself is very light and made of good quality and folds up nice and small. I recommend using this solar panel with the Tekkeon MyPowerAll 3450 battery (to store all your power) and make sure to also buy the Tekkeon Sunbooster adapter for the battery pack which allows the solar panel to charge the battery much faster and efficiently. I have the Sunlinq 12W, plus a 12V power stabiliser, and a cheap 12V charger for the NP-FH50 accus (used by my Sony HX1 photo camera).

Initial tests at home showed that the charger was active only if the sun was extremely powerful and the angle close to 90 deg. With not enough sun, not only the amps are lower, but also the voltage, so I had to add the extra 12V stabiliser to bring voltage back to charger minimums.

Unfortunately, even with the stabiliser, with not enough sun, charging takes forever.

I tried to use the panel last year, in a one month trekking trip in Nepal, at high altitudes (3000-6000m), with clear skies, and all I could charge was my GPS.

For charging the camera accus, I had to borrow the bigger brother of this panel, the Sunlinq 25W, from a friend.

Conclusions:

12W are probably the maximum power, with extremely bright sun; in real conditions the power might be significantly lower

the charger characteristics are of great importance; if it is a cheap auto model, it'll probably stop working at about 11V you need an extra stabiliser

for real applications I would recommend the bigger Sunlinq 25W

These are fantastic products, while they last. I've now had six of these for my BlackBerry Tour 9630 and Bold 9650 over the past year. I keep one at work, and one at home. For four to five months, they work perfectly, pairing nicely with the Seidio Innocase I use to protect my device. But then, one day, they just stop charging the device. The green light glows on the back and the charger cable works when plugged in directly to the BlackBerry. But the cradle contacts seem to no longer "touch" the BlackBerry contacts properly, and then this otherwise-excellent charging cradle is toast, and it's time to order another one. NOTE TO SEIDIO -time for some quality control at the factory in China where these are made for you?

I use a Seidio Innocase 360 case on my Tour so the OEM "charging pod" won't work for me.

The beauty about this Seidio charging cradle is that it works either WITH or WITHOUT my case on.

I bought 2 of them (one for home and one for the office) and I can simply drop the phone into the cradle to charge it. No wear-and-tear on the USB connector. It also holds the phone at a nice angle for viewing while it charges.

It also has a nice rubberized texture, just like the Seidio cases.

Overall, a great product for a reasonable price.

This is the letter I sent Seidio in response to my experience with their products:

DEAR SEIDIO:

Unfortunately, I am sorry to inform you that you have lost a once-enthusiastic customer. I have been a loyal customer of Seidio ever since purchasing my first smartphone a year ago. I have bought holsters, replacement batteries, docks, travel kits. I have raved about the products and referred my friends. Unfortunately, the quality of the merchandise is horrible. I purchased two docks for my phone, and they have consistently failed to function within a few months. I comforted myself with the knowledge the inevitable failure within 6 months would at least be greeted with a willingness on the part of Seidio to exchange the defective merchandise, but apparently that does not apply to replacement merchandise. Therefore when the replacement fails, which it certainly does, Seidio only gives me the "option" to purchase a new one, despite my experience that the item will most certainly fail in a few months.

I should have realized that a 6 month warranty, rather than the standard industry 1-year warranty for technological merchandise, was a warning sign that these products would fall into the "junk" category, but I was hopeful. A warranty should be a safeguard to the consumer's money, to encourage the consumer to be confident in his purchase, and to help establish a loyal consumer base for the manufacturer. If it is however a clear indication that the product will most certainly last no longer than a 6 month time frame, this neither inspires consumer confidence nor does it create a good name for the manufacturer, which would in turn lead to a a loyal base of consumer support.

Please note that I will, with the same enthusiasm that I once lauded Seidio products, make sure that as few others as possible make the same mistake I did in trusting Seidio products. Besides word of mouth, I will make sure to post my experience on all online review sites.

The Seidio cases are GREAT. I bought them for my Blackberry and my Android cell phone and love them. The belt clip holsters are also very nice. Very thin and very sturdy. The charging base for the Blackberry is also great at night I can drop the Blackberry in the charger and don't have to take it out of the case.
