I got one a few years ago and now I need another for my second bike. These come with a good long cord and it is made from good rubber so you can step on it without damage. The connector you put on the bike is made from same tough stuff and it has ring lugs already. They really made this for Bikes or Lawn tractors. The connector is easy to undo and cover with the cover on a tether attached to cord on bike. Even if cover comes off, the positive is still completely covered so no fear of shorts unless you let the cord get into the chain or lay against an exhaust pipe. The charger will do a 6v battery as well. I mounted a power strip on wall and I tie wrap the Xciter cubes to the strip. These have 3 LEDs showing 1) it on, 2) its charging a low battery, and 3) battery is charged so it is float charging the batterymaintaining. By the way, using one of these will really stretch the life you get from a lead acid battery. The acid in a battery starts sulfating the lead plates when the plate doesn't have an electrical chargeso keeping a charge on them will make them live.

This seems to be a good, useful product. I was tired of buying new batteries for my mower and ATV every spring. I'm hoping the two I bought will solve that problem. I will update if not.

I have purchased several of these battery maintainers. Have one on my Buell XB12XT, UTV, and hunting truck. I truly have no more battery issues. It can wake up an older slightly sulfated battery!

This charger is a great idea. You do need, of course to make sure that it will fit your model. I purchased mine for the new TomTom VIA 1505. It needs a different plug than the other TomTom model I have. With multiple tips for different types, you are set if you have more than one model or change models. It does not overcharge so you can leave it plugged in your house or hotel room in order to plan your trips. I would prefer that GPS models came with this, but since they don't you have to search for one.

The plugs fold back into the unit making it easier for storage and so they do not get bent. There is a light that lets you know it is charging, but it just stays on, even if the GPS is fully charged, which it does do quickly (less than an hour from a dead battery). It is also lighter than other chargers I have used.

One word about the company they did not send a tip that fit the VIA 1505 and when I e mailed them, they answered right away and sent out the correct tip which I received in 2 days. Good service and a decent product.

I really wanted to like this charger: Schumacher XC103 SpeedCharge Battery Charger with Engine Start. On paper it seems to do everything I need. The big problem is that it keeps generating an F06 error code when charging on the Fast Charge Rate setting. The manual says this means "The charger detected that the battery may be getting too hot (thermal runaway)." and that "The charger automatically shuts the current off if it detects the battery may be getting too hot or the battery may have a shorted cell. Have the battery checked or replaced." This means the charging is stopped before the battery is fully charged.

The charger generates the F06 code on two different brand new batteries. Also, if I use the Slow Charge Rate setting the same batteries charge just fine so I do not believe that the batteries are defective. There must be something wrong in the charging logic for the Fast Charge Rate setting.

I tried several times to get Schumacher customer support to help me resolve the problem. The Schumacher support staff is useless. They kept sending me the section from the manual that describes the F06 error code. I already knew this information; which I carefully explained on my initial e-mail to Schumacher and on all subsequent e-mails to Schumacher. They persisted in not answering any of my questions, but just resent the F06 error code section from the manual. When I finally insisted that the charger must be defective Schumacher finally agreed to replace the charger with a new or refurbished charger. Since I just bought the charger a refurbished charger was not an option in my opinion.

Another annoyance is the poorly designed cord storage system. Both the AC and the charging cables are very stiff making them difficult to coil. I'm not sure why the cables need to be this stiff. My old charger had cables that were much easier to coil and stow. In addition the two posts provided for cable storage on the back of the unit are totally inadequate for the task; they simply cannot hold both sets of cables (they barely hold just the AC cable) and it's way too much trouble to try and coil the wires around these posts. The only solution I found was to not use the cable storage posts at all and simply coil the wires. I then used a piece of twine or a velcro strap to keep them coiled (all in all this is a nuisance).

Based on thes problems and the extremely poor customer service, I regretfully decided to return the charger to amazon.com for a full refund.

The charger works great at charging up my auto car batteries. For a nearly dead battery (0.9 volts), it did not seem to charge as it should for the initial charge (shut down after a while and said it was at 80% charge). I then charged a 2nd time (actual charge at startup was then 40 %), and it charged it correctly. Most batteries charge within 1.5 hours time for autos. The LED yellow lights are very hard to see in the sunlight (they should change the color of these). My only complaint is that the clamps are low quality (cheap) and they should charge a few more dollars and install heavy duty (stronger) clamps.

I very much wanted to like this charger. After reading the reviews it was clear that trying it was a risk. It was one of the few that looked like it would charge an Optima Red Top 6V AGM battery.

Today I took my brand new (as in FedEx is still on the street) charger and hooked it to my equally new battery. Set it to "AGM" since that's what I have. Hooked up the clamps and it recognized the battery as 6 volts. Set it to "turtle mode" (low rate charge) to see what it would do. After about 4 minutes at 6V rather than deciding the battery was charged, it decided I have a 12V battery. Charge percentage went to zero and it showed 12V not 6V. I quickly pulled off the cables (they were warm).

Next I grabbed the Fluke 89 IV to see what's going on. Battery voltage with no charger was 6.426 volts. Set the charger to "snow flake" (trickle). Battery was recognized as 6V. It started doing something. After about 20 seconds the battery terminals were up to 9 volts. ThIe clamps read the same 9V. The internal voltmeter in the charger shows 6 volts. This is not a good thing. Optima (and most outfits) do not like you putting 9 volts on a 6 volt battery. Big spark when I pulled the clamp, so it's running a bit more than low current.

So what's going on? It's doing a high voltage cell equalization charge on an AGM. In the process of that it's getting confused about weather it's got a 12V or a 6V battery. You can do your own research about equalization on AGM's. Mine says it's not a good idea.

I put a (also brand new) Exide Road Force 12V AGM on to check this out. Set it to trickle and AGM. It recognized the 12V battery and took it up to 17.3V. I left it on and it droped back to 15.5V until full charge. It then went down to around 13.5V.

This thing *likes* to equalize AGM's. Double checked several times to be sure the AGM light was still on. Interestingly, to keep from alarming people, they don't show the 17.5V on the "battery voltage" display. They clamp it at 6 or 12 volts while they are monkeying around. The voltmeter is only accurate when it's not in charging mode.

Just for fun, I grabbed another (also brand new) Exide Road Force 12V AGM. This time I set the charger to "GEL" and "Trickle". The battery still zooms up to above 17V. It does not stay there as long as the AGM setting. It drops back about 14.5V on the second stage. The GEL setting does indeed do *something*. Weather you want to do this to your GEL cells is up to you. It's not clear weather the initial zoom charge is timed or current limited. Either way not good for GEL cells.

Bottom line only use this at 6V if you *really* like to blow up batteries or are going to watch it like a hawk (and have a voltmeter). It's probably fine for flooded (put water in them) batteries. It may / may not be a good idea for AGM's. I would not use it on GEL's.

I purchased this due to needing to replace an older unit . I have a very short commute and in the winter My car doesnt get driven enough to

mantain a full charge on it's battery. I Used this for the first time the other day and it brought my dead DieHard Gold battery back to life after having left my lights on overnight. total charging time in the fast mode was 1.5 hours. I have used this in trickle mode and starting mode and all work perfectly .

Highly reccomend this item

I'm impressed by this product. I've used other battery chargers before but the SE-1275A is the best ever. The things I like best are: Wide-mouthed alligator clips that clamp on easily and don't slip off, automatic shutoff when a battery is fully charged, the rugged steel cabinet and overall quality construction.

If I could change anything about it, I would suggest adding readable instructions to the back of the cabinet, a longer electrical supply cord (one or two extra feet would be perfect), and a larger analog meter.

Well Made. Does what it's supposed to.Customer service is non existent !

You get an answering machine, and never receive a return call, ever !

The Documents leave out MANY ways that this item will respond to charge levels and charge cycles of various batteries, so it's off to the internet or trial and error if your unit does something that you don't understand. One of the tricks to this charger is to start out on 2 amp for about an hour, then raise up to 15 amp. When the charger reads full charge at 15 amps, drop to 2 amp and top the battery off for a full charge. It will take about 6 hours to charge a depleted battery.

The jump start barely started my car,but it did the trick, and it's a very hard to start car that sometimes won't jumpstart, so I was impressed.

It helps to charge a very dead battery for about 15 minutes before you jump start it with this unit.

For the price, everyone should own one of these. It's a great product, who's only MAJOR FLAW is the embarrassing lack of customer service. Schumacher Management should be ashamed of themselves.

Heavy steel and copper. Thats what counts in a charger and this one has both. Don't buy the lightweights from China. Made in Mexico, but its an old standby US design.

OKAY its a year later... this one died early on they sent a new one after I retutned the bad one. That one died too. They quickly sent another without any return needed, and the rep sounded like he was Po'd at his company for allowing so much junk to go out the door. Now I have two working and one dead for spare parts, and even after the hassle these are still the most for the least on the market. You only other option is sears, and they appear to be made by Schumaker also, or harbor freight which should send its electric stuff with a death certificate.

* 12-amp fast charge charges batteries in 2-5 hrs; 2-amp trickle charger charges batteries in 2-12 hrs

The text above is not correct (Product features) (1) there is not a 6 function switch on this model. (2) this is not capable of charging 6 volt system. The XGPS150 is a small (2"x2"x0.5") self powered device. It is small enough to fit easily into a pocket. It works with all iOS devices that have Bluetooth. To use it, you just turn on Bluetooth in the General Settings. It takes just a few seconds to discover the XGPS150. Click on its name in the list to pair with the device.

When the GPS is paired with your iOS device, you will get a message asking if you wish to download the app required to use the accessory. Click yes to launch the App Store and download the Dual GPS Status Tool. The Status Tool is worth getting. You can use it to display the signal strength of each GPS satellite just like you can with a stand alone GPS receiver. This screen is extremely helpful if you want to use the GPS indoors or in some other location where reception can be challenging. I know I will use this feature when I am on an aircraft.

One accessory that comes with the XGPS150 is a rubber dash mount. The mount uses simple friction to keep the GPS on your dash board. It is soft rubber so it will mold to any shape. It stayed on my dash for several drives without moving at all.

The XGPS150 has numerous advantages over the built-in GPS on an iPhone or iPad 3G. First it seems to get much better GPS reception. I can easily track my location on an aircraft, in a car or even in my house with the XGPS150. In fact I typically get 10 satellites showing almost full bars indoors. Of course there is no way to know what reception my iPad is getting but being able to see the signal strength of each satellite is another advantage of the XGPS150. The really remarkable thing about using a Bluetooth GPS is how little power is required for an iPod Touch to track your location. If Scenic Map is tracking your location in standby mode (GPS centering turned on with the screen turned off) it can run all day long and still have a full power bar. The XGPS150 has about ten hours of battery life. You charge the XGPS150 with a standard mini USB cable and it comes with a cigarette lighter adapter for your car.

I only have one small complaint about the XGPS150. To turn the unit on or off, you have to press and hold the center of the circular red pad for several seconds. Unfortunately the power icon is near the edge. It is very difficult to turn on the device if you press directly on the power icon. The device makes a plastic crunching noise if you try and it may even be possible to damage the device if you push too hard or too near the edge. If you press the center of the pad (where there is no icon) it is quite easy to turn on or off. Dual should move the power icon to the center or have some other indication of where you should press to turn on the power since there is no visible switch.

Combined with the XGPS150, the iPod Touch becomes an extremely capable GPS receiver. With a high quality mapping app such as Scenic Map, the utility of the Status Tool plus all the other great iOS GPS apps, it is easy to say that the iPod Touch is the best GPS money can buy. It costs a lot less than a high end mapping GPS receiver and you won't have to pay hundreds of dollars more for additional maps.

It's simple and it works for everything, Laptop, IPad, IPhone. I like the non slip dash mount it comes with, seems to get good signal from weak areas. I bought it for use with Foreflight and I just used it for a 3 hour flight. It worked great even during steep turns of 60 degrees. I like that it has a simple push on/off button and an app to see how many satellites it is picking up. Great little device. Included car charger works with 24 volt systems and the device turns on automatically when it gets power.

I've used the GNS5870 and found it to turn off when I didn't even press any buttons then when I finally got it on I couldn't turn it off... The GNS5870 is sleeker and smaller, but this Dual Bluetooth GPS just works right!

The bad elf GPS looks pretty good, but I think i'd break it with it attached to the bottom of my ipad all the time.

This is the #1 way to go for Foreflight.

Best Deals for Dual Electronics XGPS150 Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver for iPad

I just purchased this last week and have been very happy with it. I use it with a WiFi only iPad. It picks up the satellites quickly and hasn't dropped the signal yet. I am a pilot and use it with ForeFlight for in-flight tracking and have been very pleased with its performance. It's a nice compact size too. I like the non-slip pad that it comes with. I recommend it!

Honest reviews on Dual Electronics XGPS150 Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver for iPad

I got this handy little device because I'd had reliability problems with the built-in GPS on my iPad-3G. It works well, allowing me to locate the GPS sensor up on the dashboard where it can see the satellites and position the iPad or iPhone wherever I'd like. With Navigon app it has proven a complete substitute for my Garmin GPS as well.

Only dislike I have is that it automatically syncs to the last bluetooth device that used it, so sometimes I need to go get my other device to turn off bluetooth in order to use it with the one I'm holding. It would be nice if there was a simple button on it to ask it to be receptive to an active bluetooth request. It also can take a minute or so to get position lock and in the meantime you'll get false data in some apps. Not really a fault of the device, all GPS requires a bit to lock on. Just something to watch out for.

I had wanted this GPS device ever since its debut. Fortunately for me I found an awesome deal for $50 so it was a no brainer. When I first opened the box, for some reason the unit appeared much larger then I had expected, but it is still small and manageable. The description stated 2" X .5" and that would be accurate.

When you turn the unit on the acquisition time is blazely fast. In fact it is faster than any other GPS unit that I had ever used, and I own a lot of units which mostly are Garmin's with the SIRF chip. The chip in this unit is scary fast and is even faster than the DUAL XGPS251 which I wrote a separate review on in 03/11. When I first turned the unit on which was in-doors from a cold boot it had acquired 7 or 8 satellites in less than one minute, and DUAL claims 30 seconds for a lock regardless of a cold or warm startup. I tend to believe there claim as the unit uses a -65-channel SkyTraq GPS chipset-. That is phenomenal. The unit appears to work with every GPS application that I have thrown at it so far. I am using the device with a 2nd GEN iTouch. Setup was a breeze which is primarily the Bluetooth pairing. If you plan to use the unit with an apple device be sure to download the DUAL utility from the app store. The utility only has 2 stars, but I have no found a problem with the utility and it does exactly what it was designed to do, which is to provide status on the device and signal strength. I think most people have give the device two stars because they expect a full blown navigation utility, but that is not what it was designed to do.

Some of the review that I wrote for XGPS251 can be applied here which include several free GPS applications that can be used with this device. Unfortunately the device does not include a microphone, speaker or the ability to charge your device like the XGPS251, but they are two entirely different devices. I had also looked at the Bad Elf unit, but I decided against it for reasons that I won't state as I don't want to impact sales one way or another for something that I do not own. Another plus is that the unit is firmware upgradeable by the end user, unlike the firmware issues that plague some user of the XGPS251. If your XGPS251 does not have the 10/10 firmware and you are using an iTouch 4 then your investment just got a whole lot more expensive since a upgrade to the firmware will be required, which is another $60 +/-. I got extremely lucky when I purchased my XGPS251 from Amazon in 03/11 and I don't even have an iTouch 4 model. In my opinion it is not worth rolling the dice on the XGPS251, and that is exactly what you would be doing until someone announces that their units are the new 10/10 firmware. I would suggest this unit or the Bad-Elf as a better option for future compatibility with your Apple or in the case of the XGPS150 model your non-Apple products as well.

Now for the quirks:

Quirk #1:

For some reason the outsourcing that DUAL does with this type of hardware provide several quirks. The quirks are mostly with the I/O of the power source and on and off switch. There are quirks with the XGPS251, and there are to a lesser extent quirks with the XGPS150. As others had mentioned the on and off button is buried under the RED top of the unit, and it can be difficult to accurately press the button to turn it on or off. Although when the unit is plugged into a power source it comes on automatically. The unit should have been designed so that the power button actually comes through the red top where the on/off symbol is. It would not have been difficult to do with the existing switch and no hardware modifications would have been need as all that would have been needed is an extended button preferably made of dense material (plastic, silicon or rubber)r to require less energy to push.

Quirk #2:

OK the dash mat that is included with the unit is nice, in fact very nice. But for the love of humanity why wouldn't the manufacture design the dash mat with a hole in it so that you can plug a car charger into it. DUAL include a car charger, but the only way to charge the unit is out of the Silicon dash mat. So you have to insure that the unit is charged prior to your trip or keep the mat out of the unit while charging. Go figure, this is a huge oversight in my opinion. There are issues with the XGPS251 ability to charge in the car as well which again is in a separate review. Even worse is that even if I cut a hole in the mat I still wouldn't be able to charge the unit while it is in the mat, because there is a plastic door that covers the USB port and the operating mode switch. The door swings out of the way to access the USB port, but once the door is swung out of the way the GPS won't fit in the mat until the door is closed. The door is necessary I suppose for boating and or outdoor sports, and it is not easily removed.

In order to resolve the USB port accessibility I am going to attempt to punch a whole into the silicon mat using a paper punch. This may not work because I would expect that the silicon would just stretch instead of punch out. If it does not punch out I will be using an exacto knife most likely. To remove the door I will have to take the unit apart and collapse the door keeper from the inside. I suspect that just like the XGPS251 there will be a screw under each rubber plug on the bottom of the unit. Four screws total.

All in all a fantastic unit, but DUAL come on please pay more attention to the user's I/O needs of your devices.

Update: 07/16/11:

I was correct that there is a screw on each of the four corners under the plugs. I removed the plugs and the four screws and the top came right off. Once I was able to remove the top I removed the USB cover and cut a small piece of tape to cover the pass trough hole for the cover. the tape was not required, but I figured why not since I had it apart. I then put the top back on, the four screws and the rubber plugs. All in all took less than 5 minutes. If attempted just insure that you don't rip the rubber plugs when removing, as there is mild adhesive on the bottom of each plug. I recommend a small screwdriver, and be sure that the plugs go back in adhesive side down. You may ask why the rubber plugs are even used and should you put them back in. I would answer by suggesting that they are used for three reasons:

Reduce the amount of moisture exposure that could make it's way past the screws (remember that this unit is not water proof and is even less moisture resistant if the plugs are left out and the USB door is removed. This is not a problem for me since my unit won't be subjected to moisture. Give careful consideration if you plan to use the unit in harsh environments. I'll stick to my Garmin for those type of environments. My unit will be primarily used for vehicle navigation.

Conceal the location of the screws to keep someone like me from taking the unit apart

To keep the fours screws from falling out if they should happen to become loose for any reason

The paper hole punch worked flawlessly. Actually I was surprised at how easy the unit punched through the silicon. Just make sure to take your time and get that hole position correctly for the USB port. The hole should be on the same side as the embossed word "DUAL" What I did was just put the GPS into the dash pad, and feel with your finger where the USB port of the unit is, and mark the spot with a Sharpie marker. Once you have done that just take your time and align the Sharpie mark with the punch of the paper puncher. You only get one shot so do it right the first time. Once done you will be able to charge the GPS unit via the USB port while the unit is located in it's dash mat.

Save the USB door and the silicon that was punched out. I would put them in the unit's retail box if you still have it. The modification made to the GPS unit is totally reversible if needed by repeating the steps outlined above to reinstall the USB door cover. As for the reversal of the dash pad the only thing that you can really do is re-glue or tape the punched out piece, which I would do from the inside of the dash mat, not the outside.

I can't think of a reason to reverse the procedure but the option does exist.

Cheap Hopkins 20019 Trailer Break Away Kit with Battery Charger and 44"

Hopkins 20019 Trailer Break Away Kit with Battery Charger and 44' Switch

I liked the kit in every aspect by which I could judge it. The battery was big enough (electrically) and can be used in all positions (it's a gel type), the mounting h/w was fine, even though I used something different, and the 44'' cord to the breakaway switch was a very good length. The design and construction allowed for numerous mounting orientations. Subjectively, it was wonderful to know that the trailer brakes would now apply in a breakaway event.

Purchased this unit for our security program and have not been impressed. We only get one jumpstart out of it before it must be charged for 23 hours. If you need a jumpstarter, try a different unit.

Got this for a Christmas present and am extremely disappointed. Two days ago I charged the battery and it indicated fully charged. Today the battery is almost dead without it being used and storing it in a warm (approx 55 degree) location. Buy something else.

Best Deals for Cobra CJIC 250 300 Amp Portable Jump-Start/Air Compressor with A/C

This is by far the best car jumper I've ever used. We got it for our emergency preparedness and so that we wouldn't have to rely on other people to help us if we needed a jump. Worked great the first few times we used it but within the first year that we got it, it stopped holding a charge and is now completely worthless. I wish Cobra would do a recall on this product and refund us or give us unit that can actually hold a charge.

Honest reviews on Cobra CJIC 250 300 Amp Portable Jump-Start/Air Compressor with A/C

I thought I would love this combo. I have a friend who has one. I probably would still like it if the air compressor end wouldn't have broken the first time I tried to use it. So now that part will never work. It is not a replacement part and Amazon.com will not let me return the Item for exchange or refund. If I had known this prior to ordering it I would have bought it elsewhere. I will never order something like this from Amazon.com again.

This unit may be a good jumpstarter, I did not use any of the functions other than the 12 volt power outlet because, upon finding that this until will only supply 8 amps continuous 12 volt power, I could not run the 12 volt cooler that I wanted this unit to power. This unit may be OK if you just need a little jumpstarter and any 12 volt appliances you want to run are less than 8 amps.

This panel appears to work as advertised. The frame is fairly rugged and has six holes drilled for mounting. Ratings stamped on back of unit are: Rated Power: 20W +/5%, Isc: 1.24 Amps, Vcc: 21.5V, Im: 1.15 A, Vm: 17.2V, Test Condition: AM1.5, 100mW/cm squared, 25 degrees Centigrade. Inside the junction box on the back, there is a diode in line with one conductor to prevent reverse current flow. The plastic corner protectors are a bit thin, and two of them were cracked when I received the unit, but this was not an important enough feature to me to cause me to return the unit. Would I buy more ? I intend to buy a second unit as soon as one is available.

AutoSol ThinFilm Solar Automotive Battery Trickle Charger 1.2W

Very good solar product! first time for me to purchase solar automotive charger. Seems it is a good start for going solar for my car.

Pros: The auto battery trickle charger is affordable for almost everyone. Good quality of material of the clamps and all the connectors. There are two types of connectors, the cigarette lighter and the clamps directly to the battery. I used both of them and both works fine. The length of the wire allow me to connect to the battery while putting the charger inside my car. The blue flash light allows me to know is the charger working fine and correctly. The charger is light and easy to carry, much lighter than I expect before I receive that.

Cons: Sometimes the wire are too annoying since there aren't things to help me to keep the long wire easy to carry. Too bad I get the charger with the lowest Wattage, I should have get the charger from Silicon Solar with a higher wattage.

Overall, it is a good experience and I m definitely going to keep using solar automotive charger! Save the world!
