I purchased this Jump starter for a vehicle that I rarely drive, and it works as advertised. My only complaint is that it does not come with a power cord. You will need to supply your own quality power cord to charge this unit, not a big deal really. I charged it out of the box and have it used it twice to jump cold dead cars and it does the job. Quality parts and construction are obvious, the clamp cables are a tad short but it was just long enough to reach terminals. It is my understanding that these type of products need to be used, depleted of power, and then charged again several times a year or they will experience problems. I plan to use this jump starter often and now even carry it in my car for that unexpected need.

Every now and then the car I tow behind my motorhome needs a jump to get started and this product eliminates calling a service truck. It's easy to carry and stow but I am totally perplexed about the lack of a power cord to charge the unit. I had to hunt around for the right extension cord with a fitting compatible with the jump starter. You'd think Black & Decker would deal with the extra $1 of product cost to include a cord to charge the unit!!

The JUS500B is all it is advertised to be. The only drawbacks are that it is heavy for a portable emergency starter battery, it sits on the ground flat and will not store or stand upright at all (round bottom end) and it does not come with an electrical cord for charging. If not for these (non-operational) drawbacks, I would give it a five star review.

I bought this to replace an older Black & Decker jump starter that was stolen out of my SUV. Seeing the comments concerning the lack of power cord included, I was curious what type of cord it would take to charge it. When I got it out of the box I saw that a simple 2-prong, $3.00 appliance extension cord works fine.

I live in the desert and the summer heat kills batteries; you never know when your car battery is going to give up the ghost and not even respond to an overnight charge. A jump starter has kept me from being stranded a few times, and it's also nice to have if someone else needs a jump.

It is not too heavy, easy to use. I used it for the first time about 2 weeks ago when my Honda City ran out of battery because I left my lights on. Luckily I have it charged. It was a simple stuff to do. I just pick it up, put it next to my car battery plug it and then start the engine. I few minutes later I was on my way!

I have tried out 3 different battery packs/cases for my phone but this definitely is the only one I ended up keeping. It's small and convenient and I like how the charger even has a connection for your lighting usb cord so you can charge your phone and the battery at the same time! it gives me about 40% battery (if I'm not constantly texting or having tons of apps open as i usually do). My only problem is that light up button stopped working? but it's a minor detail...because it still charges and holds charge!

I live on a river and built a campsite on an island across from my house (the dog loves it). I bought a deep-cycle marine battery but am getting too old to lug it in and out of the canoe for charging. So I got this little panel and, so far, have not run out of juice. And it's cheap enough so if someone steals it it's no big tragedy. I run a laptop, TV, fluorescent light and charge my cell phone. I even have a 12v car-vac to clean the sand out of the tent.

Of course, I'm not there 95% of the time so 5 watts is probably adequate. And I don't have to worry about overcharging. I screwed it to a big log in pretty open sun. So far, it has survived, even some small hail.

BTW, I use the power cord from an old vacuum cleaner and a 4-way 12v splitter to distribute power from the battery.

In 2006 I took a 3 week vacation out of the country. I left my car at the airport and away I went. Upon my return, I had to have the battery boosted for 15 minutes before it would turn my car's engine on. I have no idea what caused the drain (Sattelite Radio memory, car's other computers, etc), but I had to do something to prevent a $50.00 boost call in the future. A coworker told me about these devices and how his brother uses them to keep his mobile home powered when parked. Higher wattage products are sold, but if all you're doing is keeping a car battery charged, 5 watts is plenty of power for the job. No other devices (charger controllers) are needed. The charger comes with a couple of ways to hook up to the battery (direct battery terminal clips, cigarette lighter plug). I used the cigarette plug. Just plug it in to the power port, and lay the solar energy collector side face up on your dashboard. For those with heavily tinted windshields, I have no idea if the tint would cause a problem with the panel's energy collection.

This year, after returning from another 3 week trip (and using the solar charger), my battery started better than it did before my trip to the airport!

I recently ordered one of these panels (June 2007). The first one arrived shattered the manufacturer packaging does not protect the panel much and it was inadequately packaged in the shipping box by Amazon. The replacement unit was also badly packaged for shipment.

I tested the electrical output in full sunlight and got 20V out into a 100 ohm load -> 4 watts which is pretty good.

One thing to consider though is that this product is not very rugged. The solar panel has a plastic frame but the middle is unprotected on the back (and front). So unless you handle it very carefully it is likely to break.

Someone using this on a car dashboard would need some sort of protective carrier (like those insulated pizza boxes) to protect the unit when it was not being used.

Panel stopped producing electricity in November. Had to send it in to Sunforce at my expense for warrantee replacement. They promptly tested it and sent me a replacement. One thing I did notice is that the plastic housing on the unit that I returned had developed some small cracks. I am using the unit on my car dashboard to keep my battery charged.

-----------Update Jan 2013 ----------------

The frame around the panel has warped and cracked. As a result the panel no longer reliably charges my battery. This product isn't really engineered for reliable operation on car dashboards the plastic / frame cannot deal with the extreme temperature changes over time.

The unit was installed atop an RV to maintain the two (115 Amp-Hrs each) House Batteries while the vehicle is in storage. The batteries are connected in parallel, and the 5-watt unit has been doing an excellent job of maintaining the batteries at 13.32 volts. I am astonished that the manufacturer chose the BLACK color for the plastic frame. A quick test by placing the unit in the Arizona sun (in early April!) showed that the black plastic frame quickly got too hot to be touched. I carefully masked the solar array area and spray painted the frame with white Kilz spray paint. What a difference! The frame stays cool to the touch and the unit has been mounted on the roof of the RV ever since, performing flawlessly.

I took this on my one month trip to the Colorado mountains and used it daily. It kept my batteries charged that I use to run my pop up, and they never did run down. After 10 days of using one I switched to another battery just because I wanted to, but the one I was using was still working fine. I wasn't using a lot of power, but at the same rate of use I've never gotten more than four days out of charged battery before without a solar charger. This works very well at a great price. I got it soaked several times with no problem. I'd recommend it highly.

Let me start by saying that I loved my original Ixo. I still have it and use it. The battery has worn down so low and I needed a second one anyway... so I went ahead and ordered two of these for my shop.

The old version came with a charging cradle that held a selection of 10 various bits. The new version comes in a blister package that is a nightmare to open. It doesn't have a cradle. It just has a wall-wart charger that plugs into the bottom of the tool. It also only comes with 5 bits. Bits are not an issue, as they're cheap enough. The charger is inferior in design, however. Same output power and charge time, but just not as classy as the original.

The old Ixo was made in Maylasia. This one was made in China. They kept the price point the same, but eliminated accessories and moved production to a cheaper plant. Typical business in production these days.

That said, the overall build quality appears the same from the outside. I don't know if it will run for 5 years or so as the old one did. I certainly hope so. I will come back and update my review if I have any issues with this newer model. It certainly doesn't feel like some of the cheap crap we've been seeing these days coming from over there.

Performance of these little drivers is pretty incredible. I've used them to drive wood screws a couple of inches, self tappers into aluminum, etc... I make primary use of it as a string winder for guitars nowadays. (heavy usage)

The slow speed of it makes it very torquey and yet easy to control. The battery lasts for a long time from light usage. It will suffer if you use it for heavy driving, though. The Li-Ion battery in my original one went for a couple years before showing substantial degradation in performance.

I opened up my old one and found the battery to be the very typical 18650 Li-Ion battery which is widely used in small tools and remote control cars, etc... These can be ordered online for less than $10 each and soldered into the Ixo if you are competent enough at that stuff. I will be replacing the battery in my original one and continue to use it in the future.

If these new ones start to degrade, I will swap those batteries as necessary. The motor, gears, electronics, switches, etc... all seem to hold up really well.

Compared to the Ryobi Tek4 mini driver, which I have used extensively, this one is far more compact and delivers the same performance. They use the same battery (although the Tek4's modular batteries are sealed in plastic and not replaceable, and likely similar motors. The Ryobi comes with a clutch, but it makes the tool clunky. The Skil delivers with something that you can actually stick in your back pocket and no frills. The Ryobi looks more like a power tool and this one looks more like a toy. I prefer the tiny size and same power, though.

I recommend this tool to everyone. Even with my complaints as stated, buy it.

Bring back the cradle, Skil (Bosch)!!

UPDATE: Swapping batteries in mine with LG Chem Li-Ion 18650 Cylindrical 3.7V 2800mAh has made these things amazing. The stock battery is 1300mah, so the speed and power feels like double with the upgraded battery. It holds a charge a lot longer, too. (these seem to die too quickly)

I've been in the cstr biz for 25 years and bought more tools than I can recount (thousands). I personally own perhaps 10 different drills, and have handled many dozens more of all styles and makes.

I recall a small drill I bought for my mother 25 years ago one of the first small battery operated drills what a joke could barely turn a screw and battery life was a joke quickly ended up in the garbage (before we learned to recycle batteries).

As such, I stayed clear of these small "personal" screw drivers all these years. But knowing battery advances in the meantime, decided to pick this little guy up on a whim price was reasonable and could always return it.

To my surprise, found this little guy perfect for the odd job around the house, where I wouldn't bother getting out a larger, more powerful cousins and instead use an ubiquitous screw driver that is slow, but gets the job done.

Did a bit of painting recently, and found it very handy to dissemble some large furniture (the led light was actually quite handy) and to take off wall switch plates. Drove 3/4" screws into dense wood with a surprisingly torquey motor using low speed. And the battery life is very good on my second charge after being around the house a month.

For what it is, this little screwdriver does its job quite well. 5/5

Yes, less than ideal charger, but hey, for $35 what do you expect? One thing I'd have preferred is a slot to store bits on the driver, or at least supply several reversible bits (flat/phillips combo etc)

There, in fact, is no right-angle attachment, a 5-piece bit set, and no soft case.

I was looking only for a handy-dandy little tool which could be stuck in a pocket for those "mobile" repair jobs. This little tool is all that and more. Not only it is handy as can be, its battery life is astonishing. Last week I was able to use it as my sole driver to assemble 4 36" kitchen base cabinets (each requiring roughly 65 screw insertions and tightenings. Power lasted to the last and probably could have gone further but I ran out of cabinets.

The only problem I have is the directional switch is positioned right under where it is most comfortable/practical to put an index finger when using the tool. And it's easy to inadvertently push the switch while exerting drive pressure. Takes a while to get use to that, and even then it's not 100%. A redesign should relocate the switch away from the gripping area. But I can live with that little fault given the overall utility.

Very functional product eliminates the tangled cord problem when stored in your car. Blue light power indicator much more visible than the standard green light on most power chargers. The plug is somewhat difficult to remove from the phone, but that seems to be true of most chargers for my Ericsson phone.

Cord is tiny and I can see it breaking, actual plug-in tip is very, very tight on my Motorola Android phone, don't know if it will make the port larger or break it all together one day, and I'm sure it won't retract the cord forever. We did our research on inverters and this was one of the top rated. So far it's worked great on our 3 our trip. We plugged our laptop in and played a movie. The fan is very subtle and it did not get hot like our other inverter. It is also pretty small. Can't beat the quality and price! Would recommend to others.

Dual input power (very, very, very, convenient), 2 output USB ports (plenty of output power), high quality workmanship and material product, outstanding support (ordered two, one had a problem and got an immediate replacement from the seller and no more problems), compact size (just a touch big, but then again for what this provides I do not see how they could have made it any smaller without loosing some of it features or quality build). NOTE: In case your concerned about short protection, the Power Adapter "is" internally fused. There is a small glass fuse for the DC input side (replaceable) and a small glass fuse for the AC input side (soldered into place). I learned this when I was troubleshooting the one that I received that had an intermittent DC power operation problem . I found the fuses to be good and the problem was with the switching circuit. I contacted the seller and they sent me an immediate replacement (outstanding support) .

This adapter seemed to work fine for a few weeks but then one day it sparked while plugged in and it never worked again. One could smell the smoke. It failed during a trip, which was most inconvenient! These things should have an internal breaker or fuse mechanism, since it is advertised for versatility.
