If you are technically challenged (I am), Youtube has a great video showing how to do it. I just needed to buy some small female quick disconnects that needed to be cut from the old batteries.

I recently bought a portable fan that uses 8 D-cells with an option to use an AC to 12volt adapter. Since AC power is not usually available where I use the fan, I wanted an external, rechargeable 12 volt source. This fits the bill perfectly and it's easy to keep charged with a very small auto battery charger. I cut the 12 volt plug with cable from the AC adapter and attached it to the battery with slide clips. With the cost of good quality D-cells, this should pay for itself pretty quickly.

after purchasing rhino battery, i put it on trickle charger for days.It never fully charged.I put it on big charger and it said it was charged. Apparently it has a slow draw that can't be overcome by the 500ma charger. I use a lot of these type batteries .Have yet to find one that lasts.

I purchased my first PowerFilm three or four years ago. And, I just bought another one this summer for a different boat. Overall it does what it's suppose to do, produce 7 watts of electricity to keep your battery charged. I bought mine for my small 21' sailboat. After four years the charger is looking a little rough, but it has lasted longer than the battery it was charging. The only complaint I have is about the hooks that attach the film to the deck of the boat. They come loose and they break. I've had to glue them down and even that fails after time.

Worked as promised, came pretty quickly. As far as I could tell, they were very similar to the old batteries that we replaced. Normally, these batteries last us three years, so I won't really know for three years how they do. But they are installed, and working very well now.

Cheap NPower Amorphous Solar Panel Battery Maintainer Kit - 2.5 Watts

I actually use a multi port extended lighter adapter to use to connect the panel to other lighter adapted units. Sadly, I haven't actually haven't put on the multimeter yet, but I will next time I go to the pool, that is if I remember.

The plastic suction cups are pretty useless, they become too soft with the hot sun on them.

I live on a river and built a campsite on an island across from my house (the dog loves it). I bought a deep-cycle marine battery but am getting too old to lug it in and out of the canoe for charging. So I got this little panel and, so far, have not run out of juice. And it's cheap enough so if someone steals it it's no big tragedy. I run a laptop, TV, fluorescent light and charge my cell phone. I even have a 12v car-vac to clean the sand out of the tent.

Of course, I'm not there 95% of the time so 5 watts is probably adequate. And I don't have to worry about overcharging. I screwed it to a big log in pretty open sun. So far, it has survived, even some small hail.

BTW, I use the power cord from an old vacuum cleaner and a 4-way 12v splitter to distribute power from the battery.

In 2006 I took a 3 week vacation out of the country. I left my car at the airport and away I went. Upon my return, I had to have the battery boosted for 15 minutes before it would turn my car's engine on. I have no idea what caused the drain (Sattelite Radio memory, car's other computers, etc), but I had to do something to prevent a $50.00 boost call in the future. A coworker told me about these devices and how his brother uses them to keep his mobile home powered when parked. Higher wattage products are sold, but if all you're doing is keeping a car battery charged, 5 watts is plenty of power for the job. No other devices (charger controllers) are needed. The charger comes with a couple of ways to hook up to the battery (direct battery terminal clips, cigarette lighter plug). I used the cigarette plug. Just plug it in to the power port, and lay the solar energy collector side face up on your dashboard. For those with heavily tinted windshields, I have no idea if the tint would cause a problem with the panel's energy collection.

This year, after returning from another 3 week trip (and using the solar charger), my battery started better than it did before my trip to the airport!

I recently ordered one of these panels (June 2007). The first one arrived shattered the manufacturer packaging does not protect the panel much and it was inadequately packaged in the shipping box by Amazon. The replacement unit was also badly packaged for shipment.

I tested the electrical output in full sunlight and got 20V out into a 100 ohm load -> 4 watts which is pretty good.

One thing to consider though is that this product is not very rugged. The solar panel has a plastic frame but the middle is unprotected on the back (and front). So unless you handle it very carefully it is likely to break.

Someone using this on a car dashboard would need some sort of protective carrier (like those insulated pizza boxes) to protect the unit when it was not being used.

-----------Update Dec 2007 ----------------

Panel stopped producing electricity in November. Had to send it in to Sunforce at my expense for warrantee replacement. They promptly tested it and sent me a replacement. One thing I did notice is that the plastic housing on the unit that I returned had developed some small cracks. I am using the unit on my car dashboard to keep my battery charged.

-----------Update Jan 2013 ----------------

The frame around the panel has warped and cracked. As a result the panel no longer reliably charges my battery. This product isn't really engineered for reliable operation on car dashboards the plastic / frame cannot deal with the extreme temperature changes over time.

The unit was installed atop an RV to maintain the two (115 Amp-Hrs each) House Batteries while the vehicle is in storage. The batteries are connected in parallel, and the 5-watt unit has been doing an excellent job of maintaining the batteries at 13.32 volts. I am astonished that the manufacturer chose the BLACK color for the plastic frame. A quick test by placing the unit in the Arizona sun (in early April!) showed that the black plastic frame quickly got too hot to be touched. I carefully masked the solar array area and spray painted the frame with white Kilz spray paint. What a difference! The frame stays cool to the touch and the unit has been mounted on the roof of the RV ever since, performing flawlessly.

I took this on my one month trip to the Colorado mountains and used it daily. It kept my batteries charged that I use to run my pop up, and they never did run down. After 10 days of using one I switched to another battery just because I wanted to, but the one I was using was still working fine. I wasn't using a lot of power, but at the same rate of use I've never gotten more than four days out of charged battery before without a solar charger. This works very well at a great price. I got it soaked several times with no problem. I'd recommend it highly.

Depending on what you're looking for, this package is a very good deal. I normally wouldn't buy something like this from Harbor Freight but they had it on sale for $30.00 about 3 months ago. I used it to power the subwoofer in the car its much smaller in size than the one I was using and it worked good and until yesterday. I started the car and heard the small beep the the inverter always made then nothing, the subs didn't come on. I got home and checked for a loose wire or blown fuse, all was good I was getting power at the inverter but no 120 volts. I pulled out the thing and reinstalled the 1500 watt inverter I was using and got the subs working again. This inverter is out of warranty so I opened it up and found all 4 fuses blown. I dug into it alittle more and found the inverter had shorted out. So its in the garbage now, not worth fixing. I wouldn't buy another one.

2 years ago we had a solar setup installed on our RV that was crap! We recently upgraded to this Go Power! Solar Extreme kit and I can honestly say it's one helluva setup. When we're camping in full sun there is NO WAY we can drain the batteries, trust me we've tried.

The kit comes with everything needed for install (including a giant instruction manual) however I'll be honest we had a 3rd party do the install for us. The panels are large but our 32 foot motorhome roof had more than enough space to accommodate.

The Pure Sine invertor runs delicate appliances that my factory invertor would not run (espresso machine, milk frother, hair dryer) while providing us double the wattage so we can now listen to the stereo while cooking on the induction plate without blowing fuses or overheating the invertor.

The solar controller seems to work fine, but the new boost technology that supercharges the batteries is by far the best feature, it allows us to ramp up our batts to 14.5 at the end of the day so we can have power throughout the night.

So far the smart battery charger, inverter remote, and the shore power/invertor AC switch kit seem to work as promised.

A few things to know:

We now need to upgrade our battery bank as this setup provides way more power than our batteries can store.

My old charge controller was able to charge my house batteries, and when those were full it would charge the engine batteries; I'm not sure the Go Power! controller is capable of this.

If you're considering a new solar setup or want to upgrade this kit will not disappoint.

We also installed the Go Power! GP-PSK-120 120W Portable Folding Solar Kit with 10 Amp Solar Controller so we can capture the early AM and late PM light, it's a cheap addition and easy to install.

I have a 2000 watt Hifonics amp cea certified at 2000 watts so I actually have 2000 running through my subs and this battery fit perfectly under my hood but then moved it in the trunk as a second battery. I've never heard such a big difference in clarity and loudness because of a single item, this battery is small and packs a punch. Don't ever buy a capacitor for over 500 watts just buy a Kinetik battery and you'll be hooked for life. I upgraded this battery just a few months after purchase for the 1800 more suited for my system.

This battery lasts forever! The specs alone look very good compared to the optima batteries. It's got the same versatility as the optima batteries whether you want to lay it on the side or straight up. For the size, they should be able to output a little more CCA but if you're using it for an audio system or a lowrider this type of battery would work great. If you have a lot of space in the trunk, there are a few other options if you want to go bigger. I think they look great for your show car too! So i have a 2002 Gmc Sonoma i have air ride suspension on the truck so with 8 valves, 2 vi air compressors, and my Kicker sound system the Optima red top just could not hang with my truck.
