I bought this unit about 2 years ago and it has worked great. Some people have issues with using the jump start but mostly this is due to not following the instructions in the manual. To jump start the unit charges a capacitor. When you attach it to you battery you have about 30 sec to attempt a turn-over. Then you have to wait for the capacitor to charge before attempting another turn-over. I have used this unit to jump start the car and when my battery went completely dead I was able to plug it into the lighter so it could back feed power to the system to keep the car running while I drove to a repair shop. I had power go out while moving into our new home four years ago and used my father's unit to power two lamps and a radio for the painters. Which is what lead me to buy one. I have also used it camping. Recently I did break off the compressor hose nozzle, bummer so I will be purchasing another unit.

this unit is awsome!...it holds a charge for weeks,and the power on this is more than enough to do what you need to do in an emergency or for casual use. we ran our kids movie player and our laptop in the car for a six hour trip.

I have been very happy with this model as it's a good value for the money, particularly wen it's on sale. I have used it as a back-up power supply for when the electricity goes out, to power small tools on the go that need a 110V outlet, and to pump the bike and car tires. It's compact, easy to store on a shelf, and connects to grounded AC via a standard heavy duty air conditioner extension cord.

Keep in mind that you have to keep this unit charged if you don't the battery will lose the base charge and will no longer charge fully! If that happens, look for a UB12220 battery on ebay or battery etailers such as Budgetbatteries-dot-com for replacements. When you consider that a replacement battery will run you $60 to $80, getting the extended warranty is a good idea.

I purchased my 1150 portable power supply two years ago...first year i was so excited when i first used it to light up lights on my truck I was the talk of dthe town...now everyone expects it.!! but my problem is this secound year, i did not use it only but once when lights went out at home this year...then i used it this week and i started noticing the display read only 25 then worked it way up to 45 and stopped and althouigh i charged it for a considerably long time i decided to put in my car...it worked fine only for one use maybe 4 miles...when igot in car again, it would not work and the display read :err:....and when i put it on in the car the display first just read "4"...and then went down to "1" then went to

err" again... so now it is charging again..i am worried if it will finally charge...

Bought this 2 years ago for a several day long camping trip.

It ran our radio for the entire trip with juice to spare.

It also charged serveral cell phones during the trip.

(used the cigarette lighter outlet with a USB adapter as well as a direct plug-in)

I have also jumped the battery on my Honda Odyssey van at least ten times with it.

(My daughters leave the reading lights on overnight)

I have inflated countless bike tires for my kids as well as several neighborhood children.

Nowadays many battery-operated electronics are designed to be charged from a computer's USB port or such. That makes a real problem with a desk computer because the majority have those ports in back where they are often accessible only by a contortionist. If that is your situation, this device that plugs into an AC wall socket instead, and features connector tips for charger inputs that take USB and miniUSB as well as the proprietary input designs that Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, and LG have put on many models of their electronics. So it will also be useful when you are away from your computer but need to charge your toys.

The charger uses a space-saving fold-down plug: the plug is not polarized, so it can be inserted in either direction that helps but the flat 2 3/4" x 2 3/16" main charger body extends enough that it will sometimes interfere with the use of the other outlet in a typical wall socket. However, it appears that Philips had a design engineer who was actually thinking, because in the majority of cases this charger will not become a socket-hog like so many converters and power supplies do (preventing use of other sockets with their thoughtless design unless you spend even more money on "power strip liberators").

Very good: extremely portable (comes with carry bag), lightweight, is designed to be versatile and sensible, and solves a common problem. Note it is listed as a phone charging accessory but it will work on many other electronics. I needed it for my Sansa MP3 player, Garmin GPS and a digital camera here and there. It is designed for use with 5V DC devices that consume up to 350 mA. The English/French/Spanish directions include a long list of specific compatibilities, which I suspect you may also find on the manufacturer's website. I am not sure why it is titled a "car charger" because that is not actually where you would use it unless you are into DC/AC/DC multiple conversion and inversion!

Comes with the charger as well as several adapters. Some devices work with it (the GPS, my MP3 player, my phone), and some don't (Sony MP3 player). For the price and versatility, you can't go wrong.

This is a great device! It small enough to sit in your lighter socket and not be in the way if your lighter socket is in a bad spot. The cost is fair considering others of this type I have compared it to. The only thing I don't like about it is the LED that shows it has power is a little bright if you have it facing you when it is dark. I just turn the light towards the bottom or away from me and that helps alot.

I've never reviewed anything before, but I really enjoyed this product and it doesn't have any reviews so I thought I'd review it.

It feels like it's of pretty high quality. One of the reasons why I am particularly happy with it is that I bought it for about $16:-D (price mistake?). I'm running my laptop off of it currently (dell 15 inch with discrete graphics) and it hasn't even gotten warm. I haven't been able to get the fan to turn on, hopefully the loads I've used it for are too low and it's not actually broken.

It comes with both a cigarette adapter and alligator clips for connecting directly to a car battery (or other DC source). I like that it has 2 plugs, though it would be nice to have an USB plug also...but I can't complain:).

Anyways, I don't think I would have bought it for $40, but it's definitely worth that much (I'm just cheap)

This item seems to ship for PA, it only took 2 days to arrive.

It comes in a blister pack and is surprisingly small, included is a tiny 19 page manual, 32" Direct to battery cord with medium sized alligator clamps, and a 32" inch cord with a cigarette lighter plug, and of course the inverter unit itself. The dimensions of the unit are 5"L by 2" high by 3.5" wide.

Tested using a small 8Amp 12v SLA AGM battery.

The unit's manual specifies that the Low Battery alarm will sound at 10.7 volts, however it's actually 11.00 volts. The alarm can not be turned off, so I did not experiment to see what voltage the unit would cut off at. At the Battery Cut Off voltage specified in the manual (10 Volts) your battery would be destroyed. However it's unlikely anyone would be leave the thing running for that long, without noticing the VERY LOUD alarm. a typical car battery probably has at least 300-600watts of storage (for one hour), and is recharged faster then the inverter could deplete it if the car is running.

The internal fan never came on, the manual specifies it will only come on under a load of 100watts. i've only tested a 60watt laptop and it ran without any problems, with the inverter only becoming warm.

I don't see anyone having trouble drawing 300 watts from a car battery due to the batteries voltage drop under load, I tested a 0.7v drop under heavy load with a tiny 8Amp SLA battery for lamp, there were no problems powering electronic equipment.

So, in summery, the alarm sounds at a reasonable battery voltage, but the cut off voltage is useless. The device does not draw an appreciable current while idle, but you might want to disconnect it when not in use anyway to protect the cars battery during extended storage of the car (-5Amps/day). This is a pretty awesome product for a $20 inverter, but it's probably not really all that wise to run sensitive electronics on it for long periods of time, you know, like days.

I could not get this to charge my laptop while it was on. It charges the battery if the laptop is OFF, and it runs the laptop if the battery is taken out, but it would not do both at the same time. I did get it to work with my smaller less powerful netbook. I am unsure if this is a limitation of my car or the converter.

I purchased the Goal Zero 12V Solar to keep my lawn equipment 12 volt batteries charged, as well as to take camping. I usually camp out of my van and use a sealed 12 volt portable battery power pack for powering and recharging smaller devices such as DVD player, fans, iPhone and iPad. The 12 volt sealed battery has a USB port, 12 volt cigarette lighter style plug-in, and two standard 120 volt electrical outlets (unit has a built in converter). You cannot directly recharge smaller devices such as an iPhone or iPad from the Goal Zero 12V Solar, only 12 volt batteries. Therefore, I use the Goal Zero to recharge the sealed 12 volt power pack, serving to recharge the smaller devices. I modified the Goal Zero unit so that I have the ability to use multiple types of battery re-charging connector attachments, in addition to the typical battery positive and negative clamp-type supplied with the unit. I also wired a quick connect on the Goal Zero supply line, and then each of the battery attachments. Specifically, I wired a cigarette lighter style plug for recharging the sealed 12 volt battery pack since it does not have exposed terminals allowing the use of the positive/negative clamp style. If you attempt unit line or attachment modifications on the Goal Zero, make sure that you understand basic electrical principals to ensure that your wiring modification has the proper polarity. This can be done with simple testing equipment.

The unit seems to be well constructed and tough. Nice size for van camping. It fits on the dash or can be placed on the roof or along side the vehicle.

I tested it on a lawn tractor that I don't use very often. It sat unstarted for weeks. The unit fully charged the battery within a few hours on a sunny day. The Goal Zero 12V Solar can be left attached to your battery to keep it constantly charged. You may also string additional panels. Very nice!

This car charger does not charge the phone. If it does, it's so slow that the friction from your hands would probably charge it more quickly. And that is if you're not touching the phone. If you're actually trying to use the phone while it "charges" you will see your battery drain and the phone will die right there in your hands. The only thing that actually does work is the rapid retract feature. It is a very very rapid retract, too! It's probably best to tell your kids to look away when you push that button because that cord will whip around and retract in the blink of an eye, smacking everything in its path.

Pros: Nothing. It may be only $3, but it is a waste of $3. It doesn't charge your phone, so why have it sit in your car?

Cons: Everything. Cheaply made, doesn't charge a phone. Total waste of time and money.

It's great to have the cord retract into the base. I hated having the big cord in my car, always getting tangled and caught on things. Plus, it just took up too much room. I wish I'd bought it sooner. Only time will tell if the retration mechanism continues working.

I purchased these cables based solely on internet research. Coleman seems to be a well respected company. After inspecting the 08660 twenty foot long four gauge cables, I am satisfied with my purchase. The materials appear to be of good quality, and the clamp design is intuitive. There is a top of page review dated September 14th 2006 by Privacy Advocate titled "Slight disappointment" in which he describes his concern about the clamps having only one side of the jaw plated with copper. This actually is an intelligent design. The copper cable is connected to only one jaw (the jaw that is copper plated for increased conductivity). Copper plating the non-connected jaw would be counter productive. I recommend purchasing a minimum length of twenty feet, a minimum of four gauge cable, and clamps rated a minimum of 500 amps. The length is recommended because you may not always be able to place a boost vehicle nose to nose or side by side. The gauge and amps are particularly important if you live in a cold climate. Check the vehicle OEM battery specifications regarding cold cranking amps (CCA) for a clear understanding of why gauge and amps are important.

For the price and in the right situations these are good cables. Good length, good ga. wire and copper connectors. But for me where they fall short is at the clamps and this type of clamp seems to be on MANY cables available today. I could not see it in the photos but the clamps are uneven at the ends because of the extra notch the manufacturer adds on one side to make it easier to connect to side terminal batteries. Also there are NO teeth on the end of the jaws so you HAVE to make your connection using the teeth on the sides of the jaws. This does not sound like a big deal until you are in a tight situation and have to clamp onto a top post battery straight down, then you have an uneven clamp end and no teeth to grip the post. I happen to also have a car (a domestic) with a remote mounted battery, not a HOT ROD or modified car, just a stock factory production car where the manufacturer could not fit the battery under the hood for space saving and design reasons and put it elsewhere in the car. Remote batteries used to be a rare thing on mostly European cars but it is fairly common now on all makes of cars. With the battery not under the hood or in the trunk I have a Pos. and Neg. lug under the hood at the end of battery cables to jump the car with. The Pos. lug is surrounded by plastic in a depression to prevent anything from accidentally hitting it and shorting. Because of this there is little room and I can not get the side of these jumper cable clamps to grab the lug, I need teeth on the end of the jaws to grip the Pos. lug. I'm returning these cables and for $15 more (on sale) than the price of these cables I got the same length, the same 4 ga. wire, clamps with teeth on all 3 sides, even jaw ends, a side terminal connection in the jaws, and they came with a hard plastic storage case, safety glasses and gloves. After shopping around for a week I found this is a great deal. I shopped all over the Net and in my local stores comparing prices wire length, size, and end clamps. There are many great items for great prices at Amazon but if you need what I need in a jumper cable go to your local SEARS.

The cables are made in the USA, which is great, but they are not copper cables. They are the much cheaper "copper clad aluminum" cables that are of much lower quality. The product description states, "Extra Heavy-Duty" and "the strongest consumer grade available", which CCA is not. I need the jumper cables for emergency use only so they hopefully won't be used much. If you need to unroll and roll up the cables often look for copper cable, not this product. This kind of information should have been in the product description, but then if it was, I wouldn't have made this purchase.

These cables are made with aluminum wire which has been tarted-up with a copper coating. The jaws are steel, also deceptively copper plated. The insulation on the wire is some cheesy substance that I suspect will crack and fall off within a few years. I would rate these three stars if they were sold as what they were, instead of pretending to a quality that they don't possess. If you need a long set of jumper cables that will start your car, and you don't expect them to last too long, these will probably do the job for you. If you expect quality components and a lifetime of service from the tools you buy, keep looking.

It charges your phone well in the car. No problems so far, just the charger is really tight and needs to be pushed in all the way to work which also makes it tight when pulling it out but it definitly works and you save money by buying this as opposed to ordering one from Samsung itself.
