I bought this battery for my iPad 2 and to a lesser degree to charge some other eletronics (a mobile hotspot, iPod shuffle, and a couple of other goodies). It works great. The .5A port will charge up anything design for it and the 1A port is enough that the iPad 2 will charge while on, where as anything using the regular USB spec of .5A and 5V will only charge the iPad if it is in standby/off.

I drained my iPad down to about 42% charge and hooked it up to the 1A port overnight and by the morning the battery pack was drained and the iPad was back up to 91% charge. Most battery packs that claim 5000mAh claim to charge an iPad by about 50% and this is right in that range (49% to be technical). The iPad 2's battery is ~25W/hr battery, so that works out to something like 3,400mAh for half a charge at 3.7v with the battery pack at a claimed 5,000mAh at 3.7v. Something to keep in mind is there are inefficiencies in both converting the voltage from the battery pack from 3.7 to 5V, any possible voltage coversion on the iPad's side to go from 5V to whatever the actual charging voltage is (if there is a change, it might charge at 5V) and then inefficiencies in the internal battery charging (I think most batteries are around 80-90% efficient in charging, plus a voltage conversion efficiency of probably 80-90% again). So 3,400mAh stored in the iPad's battery works out close to a real 5,000mAh in the battery pack if you figure in inefficienies in the charging process. Also as I mentioned, other name brand battery packs that claim ~5,000mAh also only claim a 50% charge on an iPad.

It takes about 6hrs to charge the battery pack from dead to max and it took somewhere less than 5hrs to drain itself completely charging the iPad. Its not going to charge your iPad as fast as a wall charger would, but it is going to be enough to run your iPad full tilt and up the charge a little bit while the battery pack lasts, or give you about half a charge if your iPad is sitting off/standby.

The battery pack is small, easily palmable and light. It does not include a charger, but it does come with a USB to mini-USB cable to use with an existing USB charger. It takes 1A to charge, so a normal iPod or iPad charger or really any USB charger rated at 1A will do the job. It'll charge off of a computer's USB port as well, but I suspect it would take a lot longer with the .5A provided.

I have not attempted to charge two devices at the same time to see if it can keep up with a full 1.5A of drain or not.

Overall I was expecting the worst, but I've been pleasantly suprised. A great budget battery pack that delivers more or less what it states. My biggest knock are the battery charge and charge level LEDs. WAY too bright. They really light up a room at night with the lights off, and frankly probably burn more power than they should. Really LEDs don't use much power, but I still can't help thinking that I might have gotten another couple of % charge level on my iPad if the LEDs were much dimmer.

Needed a backup battery for work, so did not want to spend much money. Initially received the item and noticed the generic, cheaply printed, name of the product "mobile power" but thought as long as it works ok, I'll be ok. None the less charged it threw it in my bag and really didn't intend on using it much if ever, but tempting fate as I may only two weeks later I needed to use the back up battery. Plugged it in to disappointingly find out it had died after only two weeks of sitting in my bag stagnant. So I am not upset just yet, thinking its cheap, ill just charge it more frequently. I charge it again and now want to test it. This time the results were even more disappointing as the unit was freshly charged and when used would only charge an Ipad for approximately 1 minute then shut down as if it were dead. Tried this several times to make sure I was not making any mistakes but no luck. Also attempted to consult the instructions, but between the lack of instructions and nearly 1 in 4 words being misspelled, this was of no help. Yes I knew what I was getting into with this cheap backup battery but this was far worse as it is only a fancy looking paper weight. Worse yet because I waited several weeks to use the battery and find out it was junk, I missed the return window and am spending much more than I originally would if I were to buy a quality unit.

This product, in every way except being white, is identical to the New Trent IMP50D but is much less expensive (I have both). It powers/charges a 1G iPad nicely and any other USB device I've tried it with. Be warned, with both this and the New Trent version, it won't supply TWO power hungry devices at once. It's real output is 1 amp combined between the two jacks not the 1 amp plus 0.5 amp (1.5 A) claimed. So an iPad alone (or some of the more power hungry phones) will max it out by themselves. But that's not a big drawback. It's great to bring on flights, throw in your backpack, etc. for lots of reserve power.

And, as an aside, this is about the cheapest device of this kind I'm comfortable with. Just Google "lipo fire" and you'll find out what cheaply made Lithium Poly batteries, as are in all of these devices, can do when things go wrong. They catch fire, explode, shoot flames at 1000+ degrees, and more. Houses and cars have burned to the ground, flights have made emergency landings, etc. So buyer beware. It's best to buy from a company with an established brand name and some assets in the USA. New Trent seems to be such a company, and this seems to be an "OEM" version of the product they sell.

I've been using this external backup battery for a couple of months now and am overall pretty disappointed.

First and foremost, the capacity is not 5000mAh, not even close. On a full charge, this battery will charge my 1600mAh cellphone battery for about 1.5 charges. So either the power transfer efficiency is below 50%, or the battery capacity is just way overstated.

Second, the battery gets incredibly hot. My phone is rated for an 850mA charge current, and when I use the 500mA charge port, and the battery still gets very hot. If I connect the 1000mA charge port, the battery makes a loud wining sound and gets extremely hot extremely quickly, which is strange because I am able to use other 1000mA chargers without issue.

Lastly, there is no charging cable or adapter shipped with the battery. Sure, you can charge it using your own wall chargers, but the device uses a mini USB port that it does not provide a cable for. And the other cables that ARE provided (the ones you don't need, because presumably you already have cables for your phone) are incredibly low quality, using a cheap kind of universal connector that only makes contact if you place it down gently and don't touch it while its charging.

Overall, I guess you get what you pay for. In this case, its typical made-in-China crap.

Purchased the Economical Version of this product directly from their website. These solar panels are solidly built. They feel really solid. They also come in sturdy storage cases. After spending a month or more looking all over the web, I chose to purchase from this vendor because of the storage cases and the great customer reviews on their website.

I have three (130W) "economical" versions of these panels. What is offered here is the "professional" version of their 130W system. This is actually a nicer product than the economical version. The difference between the economical version and this version is a) inclometer (to check optimal sun angle), b) CEA Solar patented control charger (for blow by blow geek status updates :) and 3) theft-alarm deterrent system.

My version does not appear to be available on Amazon but is available from their website for about $645. ). As soon as the inverter arrives (A Samlex PST 200S 12A 2000 W Pure Sine Wave inverter), I will be running 390W Solar arrangement with the Samlex inverter and 4 Optima Yellow Top Dual Purpose AGM Batteries.

The reviews on their website are right on. Their customer service support is exemplary. They will NOT sell you what you don't need, and they give good advice about accompanying products. I chose to wait until my panels arrived to purchase the inverter, since I had heard horror stories about UPS guys and glass panels shipping with inverters.

Seriously, go to their website. Look at their products. Call Bob Nichols and ask him questions. Fill out their questionnaire to figure out your actual solar needs. These guys are cradle to grave merchants and I feel very secure that if any thing goes wrong they will work with me to find solutions.

I am looking for an inverter to run small loads in our solar powered home called an earthship. Our main inverter, Outback FX2024, has about 60 watts of "no-load" power consumption.

I just quickly hooked up the Duracell inverter to my 12VDC source (a 24V to 12V DC-DC converter capable of over 240 watts, Solar Converters Inc EQ 12/24-20) via a light socket. The only things I could run were the antenna for Internet and and the Netgear Wireless Router MR814v2. The power adapter for the ASUS K52F-A1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Dark Brown) required too much surge current and the inverter immediately shuts down with "E0.0" error code which is undocumented. We also have a Fantech SHR 1505R Heat Recovery Ventilator, HRV, that draws about 120 Watts that immediately causes a LO Voltage Error "E01".

I'm going to tap in directly to the 12DC source to see if voltage drop accross the lines is the culprit... OK much better! A direct tap into the 12VDC fusebox allows the inverter to run all of the above devices. It also runs my REMstar Plus M Series with C-Flex. The only problem is the Fantech HRV makes an increasingly loud humming sound so I'm not going to run it off this inverter (it may need a true sinewave inverter). So I am giving 4 out of 5 stars, but it is not necessarily Duracell's fault.

I really like the screw terminals. I can easily hook up some Romex wire to the thing. Now we'll see how it holds up over time. It's currently running Internet antenna, router w/WAP, laptop computer AND my CPAP! Not bad!

I got this because it didn't make sense to run a 2,000 watt true sinewave inverter to power a 60 watt load (all the above sans HRV). The no-load power consumption alone is 60 watts! The Duracell inverter has 2.4 watts of no-load power consumption.

UPDATE Dec 20 2012: DO not use the New Trent ultrasonic cleaner with this unit!

It will blow it our because it is a modified sine-wave, not a true sine wave inverter.

I've had 3 power converters in the past. Two died because the internal fuses did not blow but the units did and one black and decker wouldn't put out enough power to keep my laptop running. This unit has been flawless and with the terminals instead of the cigarette lighter adapter I hard wired it to bypass the car key. It is small enough to sit at the ready tucked into my glove compartment. This is the best one for the job.

I do have some criticism of the BTC450, but I also love it.

I bought the product to use in my car with an iPhone 5. My car already has Bluetooth, but it only supports HFP and not A2DP for music. I use the BTC450 for audio streaming and for a siri button on my dashboard. Although the BTC450 HFP works better than my car's stock bluetooth, I would rather use my car's bluetooth because it displays the caller's name on the navigation screen.

I did extensive research on similar products, and for the price this is the best product I found. Belkin, Gogroove, Scosche, and Griffin all make bluetooth products but they all have their shortcomings. The only product I found that seems better than the BTC450 is Parrot's Mki9000 series lineup. Parrot's lineup seems to outperform the Kinivo, but at a starting price of $150.

Pros

1. The BTC450 auto connects. This is huge...especially if you are traveling from place to place. Having to remember to press a button to auto connect every time would be extremely annoying. The only other product that did this was the Griffin Bluetrip, but it lacks accessible buttons.

2. Music sounds amazing. After reading reviews of bluetooth technology and the not so good audio quality this product puts all those worries to rest. I cannot tell the difference between audio quality from a wired connection or bluetooth. The only difference that comes into play is the bass. For some reason the BTC450 overcompensates for the bass which makes it louder. Not a problem because you can always turn it down.

3. Phone quality is superb and outperforms my expectations. Although I rarely use it, but when I do use it I am placing a call with siri. The quality of the call outperforms my car's stock bluetooth.

4. It works great with siri. I read reviews of bluetooth devices not being able to communicate with siri because of microphone quality. Not a problem. The BTC450 handles siri with ease.

5. The design is elegant and simple to use. It looks great in your car. The mounting strip is very strong. I remounted the same strip more than five times. The buttons are easily accessible and seem to be able to hold the test of time. The length of the cord and the car charger were designed meticulously.

6. The last and a deal maker for me is being able to use my car's bluetooth and the BTC450 simultaneously. Initially, I was having problems using both at the same time. Siri wouldn't work, music would skip, and sometimes it wouldn't play. However, I think it had to do with trying to use two devices with the BTC450 at the same time. Unfortunately, you can only use one device at a time and it only auto connects to the last paired device. Fortunately, over the last two days my iphone, the BTC450, and my car's bluetooth have been all working flawlessly together. I can switch between devices while still being connected to both. If music is streaming I can receive or place a call with my car's bluetooth, and when the call is done music will resume playing. I can place a call with siri and transfer it to my car's bluetooth with no problem while music is playing. Once the call is done, music resumes playing.

Cons

1. The BTC450 only connects to one device. I read a review in which you could connect two devices simultaneously using different profiles, but after consulting with Kinivo support and trying haplessly myself I could not get it to work. The only other product I found that can do this is Parrot's Mki9100 and 9200 devices. Bummer!

2. As stated before, I was having problems using my car's bluetooth and the BTC450 with my iPhone 5 at the same time. Even after I removed the second device from the equation, for a couple of days it was not working, but over the last two days it has been working great. I am glad it is working because I would have returned the product.

In concluding my review, the BTC450 exceeds expectations and I highly recommend buying this product.

I am very pleased with this purchase. Originally I was going to purchase the Belkin model, but the price of it was increased. I decided to purchase this one since it was cheaper and just hope for the best. I am pleased to say that I have been using this for a week now with out any issues. Audio quality is great. The device has a forward and backward track buttons on the top and comes with 2 adhesive pads to mount it to your dash (1 is an extra). The center of the device acts as a large play/stop/call button. Press the center button once to play or stop music, or to answer a call. Press it twice to call the last person you talked to. Pairing the device with my android phones was really easy (just hold the center button down for a couple of seconds). The device is charged through your cigarette lighter, but has a usb input in the back of the charger so you can still charge your phone with a micro usb to usb cable (assuming Droid phone). The microphone on the device seems to work great (I have had no complaints from people regarding the quality of the call on their side). The only minor problem with this device is that only one device can be paired with it at a time.

This device coupled with a Bluetooth Autoconnect app, means I can literally just sit in my car and begin to play music from my Phone without taking it out. This has significantly reduced the cable clutter that used to be required for me to connect my phone. If you have an aux jack in your car and are looking for bluetooth adapter I would definitely suggest this one.

I have purchased this based on an extensive review by B. Berkowitz, so I will only add/clarify a couple of points to that great in-depth review.

I have a similar situation, i.e. a car with Bluetooth support, but only for phone calls, with no way of streaming music from my Android smartphone. I wanted to get rid of clumsy audio cabling and listen to music via Bluetooth using the Kinivo adapter, but at the same time continue using the original car BT connection to receive/make phone calls. This dual setup is important, because that way the phone connection works in ALL Radio modes, not only in the AUX mode.

PRO No. 1: The device is fully compliant with this dual-mode configuration.

It is important to emphasize that a BT-enabled smartphone CAN be connected to multiple Blutooth devices simultaneously, and this will be causing no conflicts as far as each device provides a different SERVICE (in Bluetooth lingo each separate service is called a PROFILE). One can easily check all services the device provides going to Settings Bluetooth (Android) and clicking on the Settings icon (looks like a pinion) located to the right of each device. There are TWO PROFILES available for BTC450: Phone Audio (used for initiating or receiving phone calls) and Media Audio (used for listening to music via Bluetooth). By default BOTH of them are enabled. If one wants to use the adapter for both phone calls and music streaming, both check boxes should be left checked. But if one wants to use car Bluetooth for calls and BTC450 only for music streaming, then it is highly recommended to UNCHECK the first Profile (Phone Audio), so that there are no conflicts among Bluetooth devices. In this case the original car Bluetooth will be the only device servicing phone calls, and BTC450 will only be used for streaming music. As mentioned by B. Berkowitz, both BTC450 and car BT phone connectivity module coexist nicely, but the key here is to disable Phone Audio for BTC450.

PRO No. 2: The device is compact, has no redundant components, and has useful Prev/Next Track buttons. Personally, I think that this simple design is a huge advantage. One really doesn't need a separate display on an aftermarket part which should be as small as possible, and you can always clip your smartphone to the windshield and see all required song-related info there. Also, some people criticize BTC450 for having no backup battery, but in my view it is absolutely redundant in case of car audio, where one always has power when listening to music through the car audio system. While the display or a backup battery are just not needed in real-life situations (just adding weight/cost to the system), the Prev/Next buttons are useful, because it is easier to press one of these compared to reaching for a tiny onscreen button on the smartphone.

In my case the device got connected and started working immediately and effortlessly, and everything is working as expected.

OBSERVATIONS:

1. In my car the power socket is always on, so I expected the device to be always on, that could potentially result in a quicker battery discharge over time if left plugged in.

In reality the device stayed on while my phone was within reach (including overnight at home, where it was within the reliable connection distance), but when I spent an hour away from the car, the BTC450 actually went to sleep. It didn't create any problems, I just pressed the main button once, and got reconnected immediately.

But this probably means that the device does NOT stay on endlessly when the phone is removed, but rather goes into an energy-saving sleep mode. So one still needs to activate/reconnect it when returning to the car (which is very easy).

For cars where 12V plugs are only switched on together with the ignition this should not be a problem at all, as far as they should be auto-connecting to the phone when powered on.

2. My only minor suggestion is to provide a removable power connector plugged into a separate USB socket. At the moment one has no other choice but to use the 12V connector included, and the BTC450 power connector is attached directly to the 12V adapter. In case smth. happens to the adapter, or one needs an adapter supporting a higher current, this would complicate things. If a standard USB detachable power cable was used for BTC450, any dual-USB car adapter would work...

I have to agree with other comments posted before. This is a great product. The controls are easy and intuitive, with the one big button for the main control being easy to use and obvious. I have a 2007 Prius and plugged this into my auxiliary input and 12V port in the center arm rest area. It had terrible electrical noise that wasn't obviously associated with the engine (it didn't change with the engine's RPMs etc.) I had read about how others had experienced electrical noise, but not all, including someone else with a 2007 Prius. So I didn't know if the noise was from defects with the unit or from the unit picking up electrical noise from the car. I took a chance and bought the PAC Ground Loop Isolator for 3.5 MM Applications as others had in the past to get rid of the electrical noise and found that now my sound was crystal clear. This combination is wonderful. I reduced it by one star because I wish that Kinivo would put a ground loop isolator into the unit and you wouldn't have the problem that does plague quite a few of the users of their product. But, it was a good price and great product in all other aspects, so 4 stars still.

this is outback's top of the line solar charge controller. While a little pricy, it works as advertised. Wrings the most power from solar panels, and accepts voltages up to 150V. This allows use of much smaller wire for the run from the panels to the controller. The 10AWG wire I'm using cost a fraction of the 2AWG I would need without this feature. What I really love about this machine is that while it has incredible features and almost endless possible adjustments, I can just hook up 4 wires, tell it my battery is 12 volts, and I'm up and running. No fuss at all. Have three of these feeding the same battery bank, and will probably have a couple more as I add more solar panels to my off grid system. Temps here have been over 100 f. all week and the controllers haven't missed a beat. This product is worth the cost.

I currently run 22KW of Solar arrays on a totally off-grid farm currently with ~44KWH of battery storage.

I currently use 4 of OutBack FlexMax 80 charge controllers, and have done so for almost 3 years as of this review. In that time I've had no failures or erratic performance from any of these controllers. This system is extremely configurable, and it's MPPT algorithms do an excellent job of both squeezing every extra watt out of the feed panels, as well as taking excellent care of the battery arrays.

I'd give this more stars if I could.

There is no better charge controller so they say ... and the 4 I own give me no reason to believe any differently they deliver the amps above what my old PWM controllers did. The setup is automatic just hook-up and it figures out the critical details and just prods you to confirm the battery bank voltage & the language for the user interface. I've watched these closely for over a year now ... they are consistent and they perform.

On the downside ... if you do venture into the programming details adjustable values and such ... I don't think I've ever seen a worse user-interface. It's like they let some rooky programmer throw together a bunch of random screens the organization of the information does not seem logical ... I've been doing this stuff since the early 90's so I've seen plenty of other companies get this part right. But plenty get it wrong too, so hey ... Outback as a company has a little maturing to do when it comes to user interface design. I still love their product / work ... and love the artwork on the inside of some of their products.

Its a car charger..It charges. Haven't had any problems with it so far and its been a good number of months. Don't be turned off by the price and mistaking it for being terrible quality. It actually is pretty good.

I've had this charger for 1.5 years. I use it all the time when we go out of town (I would say it gets used about 3 times while we're on a trip and we take several a year... every other month I guess). I have not had it drain my battery at all. I'm actually upgrading phones, but this won't go to waste as my husband just got the Samsung Sunburst and it works on his phone.

this is a great charger. charges my phone from one bar till full in bout an hour give or take ten min. didn't cause my phone to get hot while doing it either. the external antennna booster they give though is junk does nothing to help boost reception otherwise i'd given 5 stars.

It was H3LL getting the Black and Decker Jump Starter apart (Was not designed to be opened)...

But once I did I replaced the 5 year old battery with this replacement battery and then closed everything

This is a very good inverter. As others have noted, it does not come with a cigarette lighter adapter cord. 800w is overkill for a cigarette lighter inverter, anyway. If that is the intended use you want a 150w-200w unit. I use this to run my DryGuy boot dryer (which pulls about 450w on start-up and then drops to 200w), to charge up my Ipod and Iphone through an AC to dual USB plug and my transceiver through a docking station using a 105 amp hour, deep cycle battery. The unit is stable, the fan kicks on only when needed and the digital display provides accurate, pertinent information like current watts being pulled and how many amps are left on the battery. The low battery power alarm is appropriately irritating. Everything about the inverter feels solid and well done. Things I would like to see? A USB port and AC outlet on the top of the unit and an external fuse would all be nice. The unit is sturdy, well constructed and attractive. I label it a good, old fashioned bargain. Highly recommended.

This is a very good inverter. I like that it has a digital display so I can calculate how long the battery will last. I usually use it with jump pack/ battery backup system that I built out of this battery boxMinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center. It works much better than a typical jump pack that you can purchase on here. I use an 80 amp hour (usable power without extremely discharging battery) so I can run whatever I need to for quite a long time. I keep it recharged via my cigarette lighter to the boxes cigarette lighter (you will need a cable with 2 male ends). It is a very good setup and this inverter easily mounts to the side of the box. Hope this helps and gives the inverter a better rating... The other two reviews are absolutely worthless.

By the way, you can purchase an adapter to be able to plug this into your cigarette lighter. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE 800 WATTS! You could then use this inverter to power equipment up to about 150 200 watts otherwise you will need to attach it directly to the battery.
