After extensive searching on the internet for replacement batteries for my daughters scooter, I stumbled upon these at amazon. They are excellent and hold a charge very well. The price was the the cheapest I found too. You do have to clip off the end connections of the original scooter wiring and replace with female connections to connect them, but I am mechanically inclined so this was no big deal. Having left the Century battery charger I have had for over 15 years out in the rain, I bought the Schumacher SE-82-6 manual charger as a replacement. (I like the manual versions, as they will charge your battery when completely "dead" when automatic ones won't.) Wanting to get the lawnmower battery charged (for the first time this season) as quickly as possible before the grass got any taller, I yanked the charger out of the box and hooked it up, setting it to 6 amps. However, when I looked at the gauges on the front of the charger, I was confused. My old charger had a needle which went from a light colored yellow at the bottom of the gauge when the battery was fully depleted, and all the way to the top for a full charge, indicated by dark red. This scale had the familiar yellow-to-red scale, but had two different columns of numbers ranging from 0 to 100 CHARGE on one side and 8 to 0 on the other. As there is no LED light on this model to let you know if it's still charging (or even if it is on), you can seriously damage your battery if you don't unplug it (there's no on/off switch) when it's charged, so I went back and read the instructions to see what this gauge meant. (I had only glanced at them before, but figured "How complicated can it be? It's a battery charger!") Unfortunately, in an effort to save money, Schumacher has crammed about 6 different models in one instruction book, with no diagrams or separation between different models, so you have to figure out if this feature or that pertains to the model you have. Then when you finally do find the right section, it is still not clear. So I called the help line, which was not much fun either. They said they are in the process of changing the instruction booklet, so future buyers may not have this problem.

To save everyone else that experience, I am going to give the brief version of how the gauge works:

When the needle is at the TOP of the scale (red for 6 amp charging mode), the battery is LOW (or dead); when at the BOTTOM of the scale (light yellow) it is CHARGED. For the 2 amp charging mode, there is a "mini" scale, indicated by a line drawn across the gauge. When charging in the 2 amp mode, the needle will be near the top of that line (orange) and when fully charged, at the bottom (yellow).

As this is the first time I used this charger, obviously I can't speak to its durability. They definitely need to improve the instructions, which they are working on. I do wish they used copper clamps instead of pot metal, but few inexpensive chargers these days have them; in any case, they are easily changed to better clamps if desired. The gauge is confusing, (actually completely the opposite of my old charger!), however, once you know how to read it, (UP/RED is low, DOWN/YELLOW is charged) you can live with that. With this in mind, for a manual battery charger that works quickly, if it holds up over time as others have said, it's a decent buy. Oh, and don't leave it out in the rain....

I bought an SE-82-6 about 15 years ago. I long since lost the manual and went online to find one, knowing that I probably would be unsuccessful...after all it was a 15 year old product. I was surprised to see they're still on the market, but really it's no surprise. Mine differs only from the dial background, from what I can tell. The point is I have used this regularly for ages, keep it stored in a dusty area, have gotten it wet, and have dropped it many times, yet I'm charging a mower battery with it as we speak. Maybe this is a special case, but 15+ years on a charger that I have, uh, not exactly taken good care of is outstanding.

Darn, my riding mower wouldn't start last week, just as the grass was ready for the year's first mow. I am a single 47 year old woman who knows zilch about machinery. Since the mower wasn't making a peep when I turned the key, I went with "battery is dead". Every month over the winter I started the mower up and ran it for 5 minutes, but guess this last April freeze finally zapped it. I researched chargers and this one sounded the best for the money. Paid for it on 4/10, used supersaver shipping and got it on 4/13! My Troy-Bilt manual says to use a 12-volt charger on 6 amps for one hour. The Schumacher manual says to use this on 2 amps for 3-8 hours for riding mowers, but I went ahead and set it for 6 amps. When I plugged it in, the ammeter (never heard of that word before, but the manual told me the meter was called that) read 3 amps, which supposedly meant the battery was fully charged. Doh!!! But I went ahead and charged it for 1 hour and, Eureka, the mower started up just fine. This charger is so easy to use. I ran an extension cord out to my shed, clipped the red clip to the positive terminal, the black clip to the unpainted rear end of tractor, put the power plug in the extension cord and waited one hour. Can't beat that for simplicity. (I finally noticed I could flip the mower seat up out of the way of the top of the battery that's how much of a novice I am.)

Does exactly as advertised! Yes you have to monitor the charging process but come on people its not really that hard! Yes automatic chargers do this for you but when your battery is completely dead, the automatic style chargers will not work. Hence I chose functionality or my own laziness!

Works fine. It comes with 1/2 charge. Don't use it. Follow the instructions and give it that first long charge and it will work fine. I am in the country so a low tire can become a real issue. I just went out with the machine and topped off a low tire no problem. I had to try the electric because it goes out here from time to time. I plugged in a lamp and it ran for 6hrs. and 15 mins. And I am guessing it will run heat tape for 10 hrs or more. Important when you lose power at 10 below. And I feel confident if I have a low car battery this will work as advertised. Just to be able to get a car started at 5 in the morning and not be late for work is worth the purchase price. And the real reason I wanted it was for in the spring and during the summer for the lawn tractor. Every year at least one tire is low. And every year I get at least one slow leak 5 mins. before being done. This year I am ready.

I bought this item as a Gold Box deal and was somewhat doubtful how well it will work since it received below average reviews. But I decided to give it a shot and knowing that amazon has a great return policy, I knew there was nothing to lose. So once it came, I carefully followed and read the manual making sure to do what it says. It requires a good thorough charge of I believe 2 days (48hrs) and then after using it, it requires another 36hrs of a charge, which isnt bad assuming that it wont be used on a daily basis ofcourse. So after completely reading the manual, I left it charging but no later than 1 hour, it says that the charge was complete. I was kind of confused at this point because it need a charge of 2 days. But never the less, I left it charging for 2 days realizing that it probably only is carrying an hours worth of battery life. So now I tested it out by using the flash light and the computered voice says that it will last for 2 hours long on flash light mode, when it was suppose to last much longer than that. This is where I knew something wasn't right. I charged it again hoping it will do something different but with no success, I decided on returning it. The return was very easy, since it was a faulty device, UPS came to pick it up at my door and I opted to get another one because I wanted it to work. So once I received the other powerpack, it was the same and similar problem that it wouldn't carry a sufficient charge during the initial set up. Again, after the first charge, no more than 2 hours, it says it is fully charged but when I tested the air supply unit, it last for only an 1 hour when it was suppose to last for much longer than that. I heard that this device comes charged half way but when the instructions clearly state to give it an initial charge of up to 48 hours and it says that it is fully charged after an hour, I knew something was wrong. I tested it and still to no avail, it would not supply enough power and would not last long enough as mentioned in the manual book.

In the manual, it clearly states that when the powerpack is fully charged, using the flash light should last XX hours. Using the air supply should last XX hours, etc. I tested it and it didn't last as long as it should. Not worth my money.

It worked OK for my Photon for a few months. It always charged much more slowly than my wall charger (I think that is a problem with car chargers in general). Then the connector must have worn out. The connector now has to be jiggled into some sort of 'perfect' position for it to charge at all (which means that it is basically broken and useless). I only used this charger on rare occasions and I was never hard on it, so it's disappointing to now have a useless car charger. I have no problem with my wall charger and the phone isn't the problem. Cheaply made car charger, surprising for OEM. Maybe a non-Motorola charger is actually better made?

Not only is this magnetic charger annoying, but it has shown to be unreliable. The contacts are spring-loaded, and on the first two I have owned, the spring on one of the contacts has given out, rendering it useless.

To be honest, I must accept some of the blame, as I have been known to put it on the charger right after a run, and the residual sweat may have corroded the electrodes/spring, but what idiot designed it so you would sweat into the electrical connections. I haven't had any problems with the magnetic clasp. It clicks right on and the watch doesn't fall off. I switched my band to the cloth version for a more secure fit. The charger still fits snug and doesn't feel loose.

This controller detects a current coming from a solar battery _ "LED" indicator lighting green and also indicates charging level (to be exact level of discharge) of the battery three red lamps show different level of "need for charge" of the battery. More red means more discharged battery. "Load" indicator is useless though. It just indicates that output is available and load can work which is kinda obvious if the battery is not empty. It would be more useful if "load" indicator showed whether the actual load is there. This version does not show anything when you connect the actual load (just one of the red indicators of the battery blinks a little). So if you need to have information about the load itself you have to buy another controller.

I was about to buy this jumpstart system from amazon and noticed that Target had it instore for around $15 cheaper (look at more buying options to the right of your screen and find it instore if the store is in your area).

Things to note before you decide to go buy the jumpstart system.

1. Look at the cranking AMPs (ampere is quantity of electric charge). You want to look for something above 400 AMPs , this Duracell has about 400 AMPs. I personally prefer LOOKING at my battery in my car and getting a jumpstart system with around the same crank amps as my batteries CCA( cold crank amps) at 0 F, the battery has this rating on it. Note: The more the amps the more your pay.

Do not look at the peak AMPs rating, those are manufacture ratings so rather useless.

2. Avoid all the bells and whistles, trust me, just go for what you buying, a jumpstart system. Okay may be a polarity reversal alarm and a flash light on it and a 12 volts cigarette connector.

3. Differentiate between a battery charger and a jump starter. Read what you are getting.

4. What car are you buying it for? SUV (V8) need more power than four cylinders(smaller cars). Again do not go for a 300 amp jumpstart system on a SUV, you setting yourself for disappointment, spend a little more, feel more comfortable.

5. AC charger for this jumpstart system comes is 13.8 Vdc, 400 mA. Do not use anything else to charge it, this is because you cause fluctuations to your jumpstart system, thus messing it up, so keep your AC charger safe, that is do not misplace it.

6. Jumpstart systems are not buy and forget systems, take care of it it will take care of you. I bought this jumpstart system and left it my car for a week in temps that were 0 F to 10 F, the cables froze and cracked, had to get a new one, wish the cables were more rubber than plastic. The cables couldn't withstand the low temps, that is why I am rating it a 4/5.

All in all, it is a decent system but will not start a dead battery ( I prefer looking for one that can start a dead battery next time) and it will not withstand high or low temps.Best setting 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.

Charge is once a month, test it regularly, let it charge for 48 hours when you get it and charge it after use, do not leave it in your trunk!

I originally bought a different brand, which lasted about 2 minutes before it burnt out serving a power load below its rated capacity. This one works and has not failed. It does get hot. And although you may think those ridges on the sides are metal heat sinks, they are just plastic decoration. The entire case is plastic, with just a few air holes. So if you can provide some airflow to help cool it, you should do so. I am using it to power a thermoelectric cooler, so I place it next to the cooler so the cooler fan blows on it. That helps.

This converter works fine and gave new life to an old car stereo in my grandparents garage. Yes, like the other reviewer mentioned, this adapter is only rated for 6 amps rather than 10, but the description has been fixed now. The converter doesn't run hot while in use and the green power LED is a nice touch. However, I think that the build quality could be somewhat better, the top and bottom of the casing is warped pretty noticeably.

Update -

About a year or so after I wrote this review, I replaced the incandescent lights in my grandparents garage with fluorescent lamps. Unfortunately, whenever I would turn on the new lights, the car radio that was being powered by this converter would pick up interference from the fluorescent lamps. It would completely overpower any FM or AM station, and could even be heard when playing a CD or when using the auxiliary input. It seems this converter has very poor or no filtering. I have since switched to a Pyramid PS15KX 10A 13.8-Volt Power Supply with Cigarette Lighter Adapter, which does a great job at filtering interference and outputs more power as well. However, considering the extra expense, bulk, and heat output the Pyramid offers, I would still recommend this converter to someone who will not be powering any devices that are susceptible to RF interference.

This AC/DC Power Converter is powerful. When I attached my Bell Inflation Station Air Compressor it had a lot of power. It gives the same power as when I had the Air Compressor plugged in the cigarette lighter of the car. I tested by inflating the electric scooter tires & it was done in seconds! I also have a bicycle and I already know that this will work as good! So handy and now I don't have to go to the gas station for Air in my tires. I'm very pleased. I also got this package in 5 days! I got this for my Samsung SGH-i617 "Blackjack II" smartphone. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, charge my phone. I can see where if you abused the device by stretching the cord that something would give and cause it to no longer function or the connection socket to come loose. But that is just misuse to me and beyond reasonable care. It has come to my attention that most people do not know that you should not leave these chargers plugged in to the vehicle when starting the vehicle as it WILL CAUSE DAMAGE to the charger. This is true of all car chargers!

The price including shipping was far less then the $30.00 AT&T wants for a lesser charger that falls apart and blinds you with a bright light. I know as I owned one of those too and it broke in 2 months time. That is how I came to purchase one of these. I have had this unit for several months of steady use with no problems.
