This charger performs as expected. It recharges the battery faster then a home connection, securing attaches to the phone and most cigarete ports, what more could you want from a car cord. It lasted longer them my service contract (I had and used this cord for a year and a half with no problems), and seems to be made well.

I am a maintenance manager for a seafood processing plant in Alaska. I have 25 years of military Aircraft Maintenance behind me and I love awesome tools. These tools are ok. But... They are not something I would jump through hoops to get. Nor would I call them an investment. I consider all of my tools an investment, but these.

Most of my tools are high end (Snap-on, Proto, Mac and Craftsman). When Gearwrench came out with their ratcheting wrenches, I fell in love. I snatched up the first set I saw in metric and SAE for $15 per set. I think they are the best investment for the dollar I've ever made in tools. I also have a few Gearwrench ratchets which are really awesome as well. So naturally I thought these would be as good as the other Gearwrench products I purchased, and boy was I wrong.

Pros;

They are easy to use.

They look cool.

Functionality is good for light jobs.

Their light.

Case looks cool.

Great for all-thread with standard nuts.

Cons;

* THESE DO NOT REPLACE DEEP WELL SOCKETS! The diameter of the shaft hole is too small when working with narrow walled or undersized nuts. They will work with about 90% of the bolts, but not narrow walled or undersized nuts. A lot of precision equipment use this type of nut, and the nuts outside diameter is closer to the diameter of the bolt. For this type of nut these sockets are useless as a deep well. The bolt or all-thread will not pass through.

* Absolutely useless on bent bolts. Found myself having to use a deep well set or wrenches each time the bolt was bent on the non-grabbing side of the nut.

* Sizes are too hard to read. They don't have as much surface area as most sockets, so the writing is very very very... small. The larger sockets from 5/8 3/4 and 15mm 19mm are decent to read, but below that they are hard to read. The 1/4 drive is dang near impossible to read. I found using a white paint pen to mark over the size, and wiping off the access does make them easier to read.

* The 3/8 dr ratchet's lever is too big, and gets switched to the other direction to easily when working in tight places. I have not had the same problem with the 1/4 dr ratchet.

* Major Pet Peeve the box sucks for functionality. I am all about tool control and this box is terrbile. The box is made of hard plastic and the sockets sit loosely in it and at an angle. Great display case absolutley terrible for functionality. If you bump the box while it is open sockets will fly everywhere. If you do not open it flat, they fly out. If you set it down open, they fly out. I am not kidding on how bad these tools fit in the box. This is truly the worst socket case I have ever used. The first times I responded to a crisis in the plant, I spent as much time digging through fish guts to find my sockets after bumping the box as I did fixing the problem. After a couple of hard lessons, I smartened up. But my workers didn't. Each time they try to help me, we are digging through fish guts looking for sockets.... I also have the 1/4 set and I have the same problem with it, but not as bad as the complete set. You can't just lay it open, because anything that hits the lid or lightly bumps it, will cause the tools to fly out. No kidding the case looks like a popcorn popper when you tap it.

Personal thoughts.

* They are annoying if you are use to looking at the socket and knowing the size. Example, I can take one look at any of the standard sized sockets and know what size it is as long as my metric are separated from my SAE. Which is a great time saver. I cannot do that with these.

* They wasted a lot of space, since the sockets are only on 1/2 of the case. As thick as the case is, you could double the amount it holds.

* I would not let these near an impact-gun, impact-driver or use a cheater bar with them. I really do not think they will take it.

* I wish both ratchets had round handles. Round handles are easier to grip from odd angels.

* Longevity I just do not see these lasting. I have had a Craftsman set, in its original plastic case for 25 years. The tools have been used and used hard, but they were made to last. These are not. I am afraid to use them the way I use my other tools. I think they will be fine for the light stuff, but for heavy work I do not trust them.

Don't get me wrong, they are not terrible. But they are not for industrial use or for someone who loves to turn a wrench. A home mechanic with a good work bench, and really good eyesight would probably appreciate them a lot more than I. But as far as I see it, for the same price I can get an excellent Craftsman's set.

I have always been a hardcore Craftsman man, and why not? Their warranty is the best in the business. But when I got my hands on this nifty set from GearRatchet(GearWrench)I was all smiles. So much versatility. It even comes with adapters so you can use your regular non-gearwrench sockets.

HUGE bang for the buck! Excellent for mechanic or household jobs, and their warranty is now backed by Sears just like Craftsman.

Bought this set thinking it would be reasonable quality and was dissapointed.

Ratchet on smaller driver was faulty and would switch itself over mid drive from 'tighten mode' to 'loosen mode'. Very annoying when you are elbow deep in an engine.

Honest reviews on GearWrench 8946 Pass Thru Ratchet 46 Piece Set 1/4-Inch

This tool very nicely cuts in half the number of sockets you need. I have found it irritating to go to the tool box and find that I didn't have the deep well socket I needed. Now one socket works for both. Have only had a chance to use it once or twice since I acquired it but it certainly operated just as I had hoped it would.

The concept behind this socket set tighten down nuts on long stemmed bolts without using deep welled sockets, and this does a fantastic job of doing so. I have used this set on securing base framing to concrete slabs (with imbedded L-Anchor bolts) and assembly of wood beam playscapes. Although this is only the 4th project using these sockets, they seem to hold up very well. There have been a couple of times when I was using deep sockets on long bolts and ran out of "reach", so I swithched to the pass through sockets to finish the job very handy! The variety of sizes and two seperate ratchets (1/4 & 3/8) adds versatility to this set. GearWrench makes an excellent product, both with their ratcheting combination wrenches and now, this set. I strongly recommend it. GJM

I purchased this charger for my Motorola Droid. The idea of a retractable charger sounded good to me. I have had it now for 3 weeks and used it pretty much everyday with no problems. The only problem I see happening is that the quality of the charger seems a little cheap and with that, it seems that it may fall apart someday. The charging wire that retracts into the 12v adapter also seems a bit thin. I am sure this is because it needs to retract and fit into the adapter. The charger works well, so far in spite of it feeling kind of cheap in quality.

** Update ** It's been 18 months and this charger is holding up well. It still fully retracts and still charges the phone. This was a great buy!

great design. the retractable cord was the selling feature on this and i loved it, that is until it stopped charging. i only used it maybe 4 times.

This cheap little knock off charger does not reliably charge my Droid. Less than half of the time I plug it in does it start to charge. Generally I have to jiggle the charger phone connection AND the charger car connection to get the thing going. It then usually fails in 10 more minutes and I have to start the process over again.

Review of PowerMax PM3-55 55 Amp 12V Power Supply

PowerMax PM3-55 55 Amp 12V Power Supply
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I needed to upgrade the converter on my older motorhome. The 30-amp converter it had supplied unfiltered, unrgulated power to the various circuits, which is fine for incandescent bulbs, but not for powering electronics or modern LED lighting. The old converter also had a fairly ineffective 5-amp charger.

This PowerMax converter supplies clean well-regulated and filtered power to all circuits with an upgraded 55-amp capacity. It also functions as a "smart" multi-stage battery charger, delivering a bulk charging rate up to its full 55-amp rating. This is important for automatic faster charging from shore power or generator without having to resort to an external battery charger.

The PowerMax line of converter/chargers seem to offer features and performance equal to the other brands (Iota, Progressive Dynamics) at a significant price savings.

Installation is easy. If you are replacing a similar converter, it is as simple as disconnecting the DC leads from the old converter and attaching to the new one. Can't get much easier than that. If, however, you are upgrading a 6300 series Progressive Dynamics converter, it is just a little bit more difficult. It involves gutting the old converter and installing the new one in its place, along with a simple wiring modification. If you search the internet for "progressive 6300 converter upgrade" you will find step by step instructions, with photos. If you are handy, the job can be completed in an hour or so, and at significant savings compared to the "official" upgrade from Progressive, which costs about 2.5 times what this does. I found that I had to bend the mounting ears of the PowerMax to get it to fit inside the gutted chassis of the old converter, but it was very easy.

With just a little bit of work, my coach now has a modern converter with multi-stage charger for just a little over a hundred dollars. So far I am pleased with its performance. If I had to complain about something, it would be the fan, but all similar converters have such a fan. The fan on this unit only runs when needed rather than continuously as some do. In many installations it will be hardly noticeable. As a 6300 upgrade, it might be a bit more audible when running, because the converter vents into the living area, but that also provides for better cooling less risk of overheating and damaging the converter.

Overall the 55 amp PowerMax converter is a great value, and enabled me to upgrade to a 55-amp unit at a lower price than other brands' 30or 45-amp converters. This makes me very happy with my purchase.

This unit is well made, strong, and simple to use. I like that it works as both a battery charger and a power converter (to power 12v units independently, through household AC current). I have only used it for 3 weeks, so I can't rate it 5 stars yet. Very pleased.

These power supplies from Powermax work really well and solve the problem of using traditional automatic chargers to keep a car battery charged. I use various emergency and security 12 volt supplies in my home. They are all powered by 12 volts. I also have a deep cycle battery on each one. This provides the charging without the nasty ac hum on the 12 volts. I recommend that you use this product. Ham radio operators like myself also might find it useful. You can keep a deep cycle battery under your operating desk and keep it charge with this power supply. This was not possible when all you could get was car battery chargers. The AC hum from car chargers ruins your signal.

This is identical to the charger supplied by the Pride scooter company for my wife's Go-Go mobility scooter, and at a significantly lower cost. The previous one we had lasted for over 5 years. I would have rated this model higher except that you need to be careful connecting and disconnecting the plug from the charger body.

If you yank on it, you could break the plastic tabs that hold the socket inside the charger body. These tabs gave way on my previous charger, and the socket and wires began to come out of the charger body each time I disconnected the plug/cable, and I could find no way to repair it.

The product delivered to me works but I bought the product because the replacement charger I was looking for matched that of the product shown in the advertised photo. This reflects on the seller and to me gives me the impression that they really do not care about the buyer by accurately managing the content of what they are selling online (product description and photo/images)and just want to get a sale.

BatteryMINDer Charger/Maintainer/Desulfater - 12V, Model# 2012

I have a Corvette and live in snow country. That means putting the car away for the winter. Fortunately, I have a place to store the car. The down side is it isn't heated. Batteries will freeze if they are allowed to discharge. To prevent that, I need to either drive the Corvette regularly, bring the battery inside, or put it on a charger.

I started my career in electronics designing battery charging systems for hand held devices. I found that the "Ideal" charger is complicated: different features are needed to quickly charge a battery versus maintain it over the winter. Until recently, you needed a different charger for quick recovery versus long term storage. While not the end-all product, this charger is a great, full featured device that incorporates more of the ideal charger features.

Battery chargers come in many types: Bulk Chargers, trickle chargers, and smart chargers like BatteryMINDer.

Bulk chargers are designed to quickly recover from a "dead" battery. They tend to have little sophistication, just pouring out lots of energy quickly. This is fine for bringing up a partially discharged battery and getting the car started quickly. But such brutes may overcharge the battery if left on for extended periods. And, they may not have temperature compensation. The bottom line, they may ruin a battery if left connected for extended periods like the four months I need to store my car.

Trickle chargers try to tackle the storage problem. Prior generations of these chargers just used a low-current charger with a maximum voltage output. These "weak" chargers simply don't have the power to quickly recharge a battery, but are reasonable at keeping one "full" under some conditions. They are cheap and somewhat effective.

Neither of these "Dumb" chargers deal with significant details of maintaining a battery's charge. The voltage of a fully charged battery varies with temperature about 12.5mv per degree. That doesn't sound like much, but over the 100 degree temperature variation that is possible with the car in storage, this is 1.25 volts a significant voltage difference. If the charger's set point is too low, the battery will discharge; if too high, the battery will get too much energy and will over-heat. Such heat kills batteries by boiling off the water in the battery fluid.

Battery manufactures publish the "ideal" charge profiles for their products. Here is a typical charge profile: [ Google "lead acid battery charge profile"] This charging profile has four phases: bulk charge, absorption charge, float charge, and testing.

The "Smart Chargers" such as BatteryMINDer, solve these problem with with a micro-controller. They sense the state of charge in the battery, the outside temperature, and adjust charging accordingly. The BatteryMINDer provides all of the charge phases listed above, and adds two more: a Qualification phase and a desulfidization phase.

Qualification / Soft Start Phase this is to test for a very dead battery The charger is current limited, in this case to just 1/2 Amp. It uses this phase to check for reversed connection of the battery leads, damaged batteries, etc. For a salvagable battery, this phase slowly brings the battery up to a voltage level where it can be charged more quickly without generating excessive, damaging heat.

Bulk Charge/Fast Charge Here the unit puts out maximum current. The BatteryMINDer puts out 2A. This is far less than typical Bulk Chargers (up to 25 A), but will recharge a typical car battery in about 12 hours. This slower rate makes this charger a poor choice for the quick-fix where you find that you had left your lights on overnight and are late for work. Massive bulk chargers are a better choice here, but are more stressful on the battery.

Float Charge This mode is where the magic happens in these smart chargers. The Float Mode provides a temperature compensated trickle charge to the battery. It senses the ambient air temperature or with a low cost accessory the temperature at the battery to adjust the trickle voltage and current to the environment. Unlike simple trickle chargers, this mode pulses current on/off to achieve a complete charge. The tender stays in this mode for about 15-60 minutes, depending upon the brand.

Battery Test This mode turns off the charge entirely for a few minutes and then looks at the voltage over time. It is natural for the voltage to drop slightly. Excessively rapid drops indicate internal issues with the battery. The BatteryMINDer provides an LED indication for a damaged battery. For a normal battery, the rate of voltage drop is fed back into the Float Charge mode to adjust the on/off time of the current pulse to assure that the battery gets only the charge it needs.

The combination of temperature controlled float and battery testing makes this the perfect system for long term storage.

I ended up buying a cigarette adapter for the system about $6 more. This saves me the hassle of popping the hood. I just plug the adapter into the cigarette lighter adapter and plug in the BatteryMINDer. (Note: This only works on cars where the accessory/lighter socket is ON when the car is off. GM cars work this way).

I have reviewed the datasheets and found this the "Ideal" charger for me. (I still have a bulk/starter charger for the lights-left-on, gotta-get-to-work situation).

I will know next spring how well this worked, but I am confident.

This charger brings lead acid batteries back from the dead.

I had a battery so dead this smart charger wouldn't recognize it was connected. I used a "dumb" trickle charger on the dead battery overnight—the battery still wouldn't hold a charge but that gave it enough juice to hook up the BatteryMINDer. The BatteryMINDer ran its "Desulfater" program for two days after which I gave it a go—started my V6 on the first turn.

I'm interested to observe how much life I get from this battery now.

Best Deals for BatteryMINDer Charger/Maintainer/Desulfater - 12V, Model# 2012

After purchasing multiple batteries because they had sat dead for too long (I purchase a lot of wrecked vehicles that sit for months before they are sent to auction) I got to thinking there must be something out there that can revive an otherwise worthless battery. The final straw came on the last vehicle I repaired; a F250 diesel with two batteries that were only 9 months old, but would not charge sufficiently to start the truck. Faced with spending $200 to replace the batteries I began researching other options. The reviews on the BatteryMinder were enough to convince me to take a chance on it, although it still seemed too good to be true. I'm here to tell you that after a little over a week of desulfating the batteries are as good as new. I followed the recommendations in the instructions and tested the batteries every three days to verify the voltage was increasing and then removed the charger when they stopped gaining voltage. Do yourself a favor and give this thing a try the next time you are faced with replacing a battery that has gone bad. With the price of batteries these days the charger actually costs less than most batteries.

Honest reviews on BatteryMINDer Charger/Maintainer/Desulfater - 12V, Model# 2012

This is a great product. I don't know how it works, but it does. It both charges and desulfates the battery, or in my case the two batteries connected in parallel. I have 4 other BatteryMinder products, but I think this is probably the most capable of the ones I have.

I have had this BatteryMINDer for a little over a month now and I love it. We are connecting it to each of our vehicles (including motorcycles)for about a week at a time. This is one of those products that you don't realize the savings you have until a year or two after you purchase and use it. EVERY review I have read about the BatteryMINDer has been positive. It doesn't just charge your battery, it doesn't just trickle charge your battery after to prevent over heating and boiling out the battery acid, it desulphinates the plates inside which is the main reason batteries die after a few years. This will more than double the life of your car/boat/motorcycle/... battery. The price was great and the delivery was quick!

Thinking about buying another iPhone charger?

1) Be careful to buy one that actually works (seriously). Apple has proprietary tech that each manufacturer licenses allowing the charger to communicate with the phone. Some cheapos don't incorporate the tech and wind up not actually charging the phone (for example, see this: USB Cable + Wall Charger for Apple Iphone 3g Ipod Touch Nano )

2) This charger is built out of (comparatively) high-quality materials and can hold up to being shoved in luggage/backpacks/purses/whatever

3) The cable can be used just by itself (has a USB end that goes into the wall plug)

4) The plug is ridiculously ginormous. I guess that's why it swivels, so this big hog can fit in a power strip regardless of plug orientation. (I assume they saved money making it so unnecessarily big.)

5) The connector firmly connects to the apple device (again quality build)

6) iPhone chargers are pricey, this is one of the cheapest that is built well

7) This one is eligible for Amazon Prime shipping

This is the second one of these I'm buying, because of price/value/reliability. I have both nicer and cheaper ones. Despite it's faults, this one seems "just right". 1 star off because the plug is so big.

I bought this charger for my iPod touch 4. I needed a wall charger for our trip to Europe. It worked perfectly! It charges the iPod much faster than the USB. I'm not sure if the faster charge affects battery life, though. Anyway, with a European plug adapter this charger worked just as well with Europe's 110 volt power as it does here. As a bonus the USB cord that comes with it seems to be of an even better quality than the Apple cord.

This vacuum works great. I find that it works well even as the batteries are going down. It does eat batteries pretty quickly but I'm able to get everything done I need. I also vacuum more often now that I have it. One thing to keep in mind is that is does not come with batteries. It really only makes sense to buy it if you are already invested in Milwaukee tools.

This is a great portable vacuum. My problem is that it was described as having "a long continuous run time." That time is actually, according to both Milwaukee (personal communication) and personal experience, about 11 minutes on a fully charged 18V battery. That was less than I expected and will necessitate buying a second battery. This vacuum with two batteries at $51.18 each becomes a pretty expensive proposition. I can recommend this vacuum only if you are already invested in Milwaukee portable tools and 18-volt lithium ion batteries.

One saving grace is that if you don't anticipate using the vacuum very long at any given time, the batteries do have a short recharge time, so one battery might be sufficient.

Best Deals for Milwaukee 0880-20 18 Volt Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum,

This is definitely the Milwaukee Tool quality that I have come to respect. It has plenty of pick-up power and best of all it works with my 18V Compact Li-ion batteries that came with my drill (It also works on 18V Ni-Cad batteries as well). The battery bay has two different mounts that allow the use of either style Milwaukee 18V battery (however, only one battery can be used at any given time). It has a float inside the pick-up chamber that turns it off if too much water comes in. The hose and cabinet are made from heavy duty material making it great for rugged use. It comes with two small wands one of which is for cracks and crevices and the other for general pick up. These are kept nicely tucked away under the lid in their perspective storage areas. The only thing I wish they would have added is a small brush attachment but that is a minor thing. My wife has already snagged it to use on the carpeted steps because of how easy it is to use. Very pleased indeed!

Can vacuum a whole car on one charge. It's very convenient when you don't feel like going for a power cord. The product was too costly when it came out, now it's priced more fair. It's a bit loud, however that is because it is powerful, so, i'm completely happy with the product.

Since I already own several Milwaukee 18V cordless tools and 2 batteries, this was a fantastic addition. For small jobs, this thing can't be beat. Lightweight, sturdy, extremely portable, great suction, good attachments. For jobs like vacuuming the car, picking up sawdust or drywall, and other small projects around the house, this is the first vacuum I go to. It's very well made, and I'm actually really impressed with the hose on it really high quality and it stretches to probably 5 feet or so, but re-coils nicely. Much better quality than any typical wet/dry vac hose. And since it's a standard 1 1/4 hose, you can add a variety of additional attachments. Plus, you can use it as a blower too.

I have no idea what the continuous run-time is, I haven't used it for more than about 5 minutes straight. But, on a single V18 battery, I can use it intermittently for several weeks (1-2 minutes at a time every 3rd or 4th day) before I need to recharge the battery. This vacuum is compatible with all 4 versions of Milwaukee 18V batteries (V18, M18, M18 compact, and NiCad).

3 limitations: 1.) It's cordless, so don't expect to run it for a half hour straight and vacuum your entire house. 2.) To make it so portable, the storage for the attachments is small. It will only hold the 2 attachments it comes with, so if you add anything else (like a brush tool), you'll need to store them separately. 3.) It's got a special lock-in hose, so you can't take any 1 1/4" shop-vac hose and plug that in.

For what it's worth, my wife rolled her eyes when she saw this show up (thought I was just buying another toy). But she had to admit that she loves this thing now too. Keeps it in the hall closet and it's the first thing she grabs to vacuum up the cat litter off the floor.

If you have the batteries already, it's a great addition. But if you're just looking for a portable vacuum, this is probably close to a $150 investment by the time you're done (just look at the "frequently bought together" section of this page).

Doesn't seem to work very well. Gets very hot in the car. Charges, but doesn't charge very fast at all.

I love the retractable cord. My phone has issues with its charging port so it doesn't always work for me but works every time for my fiances phone and he loves it.

This is the 2nd one of these I've purchased. The first one has been going strong for several months now w/o issue. Got this one for my wife. I have a smart phone, and the Android OS really appears to drain the battery when you are using a lot of apps. I am also frequently on the phone for conference calls that can last more than an hour, so it is very handy to have my phone charging during travel. (Yes, I am hands-free when in the car!) This charger seems to work well with any mini-USB plug device, esp. different phones but check the voltage, polarity, and compatibility first to be safe. The retraction mechanism is excellent. It keeps a pile of power cord from squirming around the car, getting in the way, or getting caught between the seats. The cord isn't long enough to reach the back seat, but it does stop at any length so you can have just enough cord to stash your phone someplace stable and out of the way in the console, cupholder, or dash. If you need to have your phone charged and ready after the commute or on a road trip, I would recommend this. It is cheap and it works well.

Seems to be working great so far. Very convenient that it retracts and there are no cords in the way.
