This little retractable charger is VERY durable, despite it's initial looks. Being retractable, there's no tugging at the phone when talking while plugged-in. I had a 'spiral-corded' type charger and it would unplug almost every time i grabbed my phone, well problem solved with this type of charger. I highly recommend this product it's far superior to the norm!

Hello All,

I purchase this scanner as a replacement for my BC200, which died after many many years of faithful service. I did a LOT of research online before I purchased this unit and when all was said and done, this scanner had what I was looking for at a price that was not hard to swallow. I read some of the reviews here and was a bit leery about being able to understand how to program the scanner BUT I can say quite confidently that IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL FOLKS! If you EVER owned a Bearcat scanner then programming, this unit will be old hat to you. This scanner still requires the old "hold-channel numberfunction-program-enter frequency-enter" key chain to program each channel. SURE, this may seem like a lot but for those of us using Bearcat Scanners this is the way it has been forever.

Now onto the features, I love the fact that you have all the frequencies already pre-programmed into the unit AND, the service band search is nice BUT why did Bearcat have to make it SO HARD to enter the search mode. My old BC200 had a button marked SEARCH that you pushed to start searching. My question to Uniden is why did you ELIMINATE the SEARCH BUTTON? In addition, some of the buttons perform multiple functions depending on which function of the function button your enter. (Are you confused yet?)

If Uniden is reading this, perhaps you could send me one of your scanners PRIOR to market for review. This would accomplish two things. One , it would give someone that has been a loyal Uniden / Bearcat fan for years a chance to see just how USER FRIENDLY your new product is, and second it would give you a chance to make corrections before market launch and avoid some negative feedback and drive higher sales.

Ok, enough said. If you are looking for a nice little scanner with a lot of bang for the buck, then I think you will be happy with the BC92XLT and all the features it provides. If on the other hand, you want a scanner that you can program and run while drunk off your butt and half brain dead, then this is not the scanner for you. My best advice to you is this, download and READ the instruction manual PRIOR to purchase and make your mind up for yourself.

I actually purchased the Radio Shack relabelled version of this exact radio for $80. I have also seen it go down as low as $60. I was stunned how much you can do for so little money. I already have a larger pricier scanner, but wanted this one for it's size. It's probably 60% the size of a normal scanner. This scanner does NOT do analog or digital trunking, but I did not need it for my application. The small stubby antenna seems to do the job, but performance will vary wherever you are. Prepare to buy a different antenna if things don't work out. For me, it did not do a great job in scanning unknown frequencies, but that is maybe due to the size of the antenna and where I am. But I went to the internet to find frequencies and programmed them in. Worked like a champ. I will agree with the previous reviewer, this is not user friendly by a long shot. You need to keep the instructions near you at all times. I have used both Uniden and GRE scanners, and I do not think I have come across any user friendly scanner! Maybe there's one out there, but don't hold your breath.

My previous scanner experience is limited to preprogrammed scanner use only...even then not much.

Bought to use at NASCAR tracks this year. While I'll play with the "Close Capture" feature (allows it to automatically tune in to active nearby frequencies) at the track, it took less than 30 minutes to program all the primary car, Nascar and broadcast frequencies into the scanner. (130 frequencies)

The "Service Scan" feature is also very easy to use; allowing you to quickly scan through Police, Fire, Air, or Marine frequencies.

Pros: Lightweight, large memory, relatively easy to use.

Cons: It does take a few minutes to become familiar with the button combinations required to activate the functions. It is not intuitive , but becomes easier to use with minimal practice.

I found this scanner easy to use. I was capturing police calls in my area within 15 minutes of turning it on. The service search feature is super since you don't have to program the channels. Just search the POLICE band and when you get a call push a couple buttons and this frequency is now in scanner memory. Heck, I have been listening in search mode and catching alot of action all around DFW. Of course once you find and store all the channels you can enter scan mode which is faster and you wont miss any action. I am a novice scanner user and recommend this product.

Great radio. I take it to work and listen to it all day. Programs and runs the same as all uniden radios. You do need to read the instructions. For an experienced radio hound it is no trouble. For the beginner it has preprogrammed searches to get them started quickly. Great size and is well built. I currently own an 898T also and the sensitivity to signals are the same for both. This is the fifth Bearcat I have owned and it has not let me down!!!

The only fault here is with ME! I thought "4 gauge" would be a bit thicker than what I got. I hindsight, I am sure these will work in just about any situation and if I need thicker gauge, I probably have other issues to deal with.

The clamps are smaller and of cheaper quality than what I thought they would be. I had a set of cables that looked like these years ago, but they were bigger and of better quality. I guess it is just like everything else in the world, "less for more", these days! I'm sure, for me, they will be fine. I hope I never have to use them, but for a professional, let's say a tow truck operator, they would be junk in less than a year.

For the price, a good product. I guess "El Cheapo" here should "pony up" next time, if he wants top shelf products. LOL

So far I am impressed with this charger.

Pros:

Operation is simple, cool to the touch, and essentially silent. The charging cycles are relatively quick, the unit is very compact (much more so than the picture implies about the size of a small purse), this charger is approved for the Odyssey line of "dry" cell AGM batteries (see the Odyssey website), and it charges more than the Odyssey line of batteries (unlike the Odyssey branded chargers that are very expensive).

Cons:

Limited charging capability (8 Amps), no digital display for battery parameters (% charged, volts, Amps etc.).

** Update ** Cheap/flimsy clamps. The positive terminal clamp handle bent when squeezing it to attach to a battery terminal. I will be contacting SOLAR to determine how they will handle this issue I will update this review with the results. **

For note: I would have purchased one of the larger chargers in the SOLAR line if one of the larger chargers was on the Odyssey approved charger list. This is the only reason I rated this at 4 stars.

Nevertheless, I highly recommend this charger.

I have an Odyssey battery that requires a special charger that is approved by the company. I tried an Odyssey OMAX-12A-1B charger and liked it except that the cooling fan runs constantly and is annoyingly loud. I returned it and found out that this charger is approved by Odyssey. It's also about $25 cheaper, too. This charger, unlike the OMAX-12A-1B, can also charge other non AGM batteries, so that's another plus over the OMAX.

I've had my charger for about six months, and it works well. I'm hoping it will keep my Odyssey battery well conditioned, but time will tell. I killed my first Odyssey battery when I naively used a Sears trickle charger on it.

Ordered this as a replacement charger (my aunt lost the home charger to her Tom Tom). I think it's a little silly that the unit cannot charge through USB, but perhaps it is too much to ask. Anyways, the product works perfectly with my current Tom Tom and although I don't have the other non-American standard plugs to test, I'm sure the adapters work perfectly as well.

Quality of item is poor. The connection between electrical cord and TomTom 910 are not good. Probably poor manufacturing or poor quality control. The electrical connection is broken by the slightest movement of either device causing the Tomtom not be be recharged.

So I was skeptical at first. Was this going to last? Is it going to be enough? When I first unboxed it and plugged in to charge (no less than 10 warnings about charging on/in/all over the box) the wall charger made an annoying hum. Actually it was super annoying, I could hear it clear across the house. Quick email to customer service and they sent another one. That was re-assuring that they would stand behind this. The noisy charger did its job though and I have since recycled it. Now, for the real test, will it charge my other devices like advertised. The answer is YES! I can't comment on if it will do an iPad 6 times like they claim, but it has charged my iPad (new with Retina) twice along with running a 12v fan for 4 hours (.75Ah draw) and still had some in the bank. I don't know how accurate the LCD on the front it, but it showed 20%. I will be running this through a bunch of tests in two weeks when I go offshore and will have more then. For now, it is pretty solid even if it is on the pricey end. However with everything they have packed in (12v cigarette plug, 12v plug, USB, 120 inverter) and the solid feel, this is definitely a winner if you need a "wall outlet" away from civilization.

This unit was originally purchased to power a C-Pap machine on our camping trips where we don't have a power hook up. What we didn't realize is that when it is not being used for the C-Pap machine we use it to charge our cell phones, camera batteries, play our music with our cell phones and Pandora. We typically charge it during the day either by power or with a solar charger so it is always full to provide all the power we need. When we cant charge it in between, we have found the C-Pap machine can run for at least 3 nights (8 hours each) of power. This is a must piece of equipment for anyone in their own camper or car when travelling. We feel it is too heavy to pack in a suitcase to take on a cruise or a plane.

We also found Goal Zero tech support to be very helpful in answering our questions about how it works best, what gets the most power from the unit and which solar unit works well with the Yeti 150. We highly recommend this product

Overall I love this company and their product. But if you are a CPAP user this battery does not have enough power to sustain a full nights sleep. I used this on a camping trip and it kept shutting off every 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours. Then after about 5 hours of bad sleep it was completely dead. If you need this for charging a cellphone or some other small device this is the product for you. If u need more power, get the bigger battery.

I've read many comments on whether or not various batteries like this are really sealed, or really AGM, especially because they're shipped with the acid separate.

Yes, it's an AGM battery. That means Absorptive Glass Mat there is a finely-woven mat of fiberglass between each plate. You might be able to see it before you fill the battery. This allows thinner (and thus weaker) plates with less danger of breaking because the mat supports them and they lie together as a unit. This allows more plates in a smaller case, for more capacity. It's not new technology and not exotic, but it works. A side benefit is that these batteries don't have free acid sloshing around.

The battery is sealed AFTER you add the acid and put on the seal. The acid is shipped separately so the battery is as fresh as possible when you get it, with no concern about shelf life. The manufacturing date is really only relevant in case there was a run of bad batteries, so they can be identified. The day your battery is activated is its real "Born On" date (unlike beer...).

I have no connection with the seller or any battery company, I just see so much confusion in reading reviews and questions, that I wanted to try to clear this up.

Also the life of batteries like this is still limited by their state of charge. Batteries sulphate over time, particularly when discharged. These batteries often go into lawn mowers, toys, etc., with poor charging systems. If you want the battery to last longer, hook it up to a battery conditioner whenever it's not in use. NOT a cheap trickle charger, but a true battery conditioner that monitors the state of charge and only tops off the charge as necessary. The best ones also desulphate automatically, an electrical process whereby high-frequency pulses are sent into the battery both during charging and while resting. The conditioner monitors the state of sulphation and controls the desulphation automatically too.

Battery conditioners are not cheap and anything priced under $25 or so is probably NOT a computerized conditioner. You have to spend some money to get a good one, but buying a good conditioner now will probably make your battery last 3-4 times as long. Again, I have no connection to any battery conditioner manufacturers other than being a satisfied customer. I own seven of them, and every one is plugged in and working at the moment. Time to buy another one or two I guess. I won't recommend a brand (Amazon might not like that, though they do sell the ones I use), but my favorite has Minder in the name. I trust a $200 airplane battery to one of their aviation battery charger/conditioners, and have had EXCELLENT customer service from them. I but that brand because as far as I know every charger they make is als a computerized battery desulphator, not just a plain or computerized charger. I don't think their competitors are so deeply committed to good battery conditioning.

I don't know about the ones with Tender in the name never had one but the ones I looked at years ago were just trickle chargers. Never had one of the ones from tha automotive tool and paint company in Pennsylvania either, though I have lots of other stuff from them. And the cheap trickle chargers from the well-known Chinese tool store have a reputation for burning out batteries by overcharging, though I know people who use them too.

We purchased two pairs of these radios so four of us could stay in touch during a large event on two levels of the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. The radios worked flawlessly. A BIG bonus is that they are small and lightweight. We are buying two more pairs today, for a total of eight radios.

We charged for 24 hours before first use, used them all day/12 hours, and batteries are still at full power. We were advised by a Midland rep NOT to leave the radios on the charger as a matter of course, but only to charge the radios when they actually needed it. It is on our checklist now to check radio battery life two days before event.

When you buy: They need a 24-hr charge before first use; and if you are running a large event, buy enough to give one of your radios to the venue rep for the duration of your event. It will save you a lot of running around looking for that person when you need them to act.

I originally purchased one pair to stay in contact with my lead man on our shift in a manufacturing facility. Our department is extremely noisy, as we have numerous machines stamping out metal parts, forklifts beeping and driving by. I use the AVPH3 surveillance headset because my job entails that I use both hands working with pneumatic tools to set the dies to stamp the parts. When my Lead calls, I have no trouble hearing him, and answer him with the push-to-talk button clipped to my shirt.

After we used the 1st pair for a few days, we realized just how much more efficient we were working, so I ordered a second pair to give to operators so that we can be in constant contact with each other. Now, if there is a problem with one of the machines, I can ask them what the problem is, and avoid wasted time walking the 50 to 75 yards to survey the problem, and then walk back to get the necessary tools to fix the problem.

The in-ear headset also doubles as a sound-reducing ear plug, but still allows me to communicate with the crew. However, the clear plastic behind-the-ear spiral looks rather CIA/Secret Service, and I have had to put up with some ribbing from some of the other workers in the plant. If they only knew just how comfortable, and, convenient this headset is, they wouldn't rib for long.

Midland Radios has long been a leader in radio manufacturing, and that was one big selling point for my purchase. These are NOT cheap little toys, but, well-constructed, solid radios.

I would suggest to follow the instructions to give the units a 24 hour initial charge, and then to charge them only as needed, every 2 days or so.

All in all, I am very pleased with the quality, the performance, and the range that these radios provide. We may even decide to purchase a third set.

I decided to buy a pair of these.

I tried them out 11/03/2012 ref'ing a paintball game on a 2 1/2 acre field (mostly trees about 10% open space about .2 miles from one end to the other) with no difficulty on a FRS channel (Channel 9, CTCSS Sub-Channel 11). They also communicated well with my uniden radios.

The real test was yesterday (11/17/2012 ) when I was be ref'ing a much bigger event on a field that is almost 20 acres (mostly trees about 5% open space over 1/2 of a mile from one corner to the opposite corner)

They worked great! On the field they reached cleanly from one side of the field to the other (on channel 9, no sub-channel)... the longest line of sight thru dense wood that I had a chance to test was over a 1/3 mile... but better than that i had to run an errand and on the way back i used one from inside the car on the way back... they worked great from inside the car across about 1/2 mile from the responder at our registration area. About 1/2 that distance was woods and a large church building line of sight between us (That is much better than the uniden I have). I have no doubt I would get at least a mile thru dense wood. I probably won't get a chance to try them on a larger field until January. (If I don't post an update by Feb. 2013, ask for an update) (If I remember, I'll post a video of part of our field.)

Yes, I would buy another set.

The reason for only 4 stars is I haven't tried them at a really long distance yet. The largest field I've played on is Wayne's World (about 1/2mile x 1/3mile)()

I did order more radios.

We liked them so much we ordered 2 more radios. They went into use today.

I HUGE motivator for getting more of these radios is their battery life!

When we use them they are on continuously from just before 9am until about 2pm

The charge is lasting us 4 5 game days before they run out of a charge.

If I could bump my rating up to 4.5 stars, I would.

The reason for only 4 stars is still the same... I haven't tried them at a really long distance yet.

I now have 6 of these.

I tested them for distance yesterday (2/16/2013). On channel 11 (no sub-channel this time), I got 1.2 miles away in a mostly open area with some trees, and a hill preventing line of sight. There was an elevation difference too... about 100 feet. from the downhill radio the hill went up 100 feet over a distance of a 1/2 mile. I traveled level for a distance of almost 3/4 of a mile beyond that. At that distance the communication had a lot of static, but it was still very usable.

(There is a thin blue line from radio to radio, so you can see what was between us at our most distant conversation)

I suspect I could have gotten 1.5 miles, but I think my partner turned off his radio. This was using channel 11 (no sub-channel this time). This will serve my needs very well. (I play and referee paintball games on large fields)

As a result of this test, I am now upping my rating to 5 stars.

The true range of this product is somewhere in the neighborhood of half a mile, which is fine if your group or person you're communicating with gets lost or separated. It's a good trail radio. UPDATE: I received a call from iOttie the same day I placed my original one star review. I discussed my issue with the design and the product being sold for the S3. It is well constructed, well designed and sticks to my dashboard like it is welded to it.

My main concern when purchasing was that it would not work with the OtterBox. I can place the phone in the mount with the OtterBox Defender case on it. You just about have to pry it to get the phone in and out. The quick release doesn't really work since it is so tight in the mount. I really don't have an issue with that just wanted to let others know how it works with the OtterBox case.

Love this thing!! I use it in my work truck(2012 Ford F250), it mounted easily to the dash, the suction cup holds like a bulldog on a bone!! I use it with my Galaxy Note 2, and even with it in the Seidio case it fits and holds perfectly. I mounted it on the dash about a month ago, and it has been plug and play ever since, never once has it offered to come loose, or has it dropped my phone. This fact is even more impressive when you factor in that about 60% of my time is spent on oilfield roads(very rough dirt roads). Will buy another for spare, seems like when you find something good that works it goes obsolete way to fast!

Seriously, this is the best vehicle doc I have ever used. Period

1. Fits the Galaxy Note 2 like a dream.

2. The one handed release feature is unlike any I've used.

3. The auto-close button behind the device locks the phone in perfectly!

4. THIS THINGS STICKS!!! Seriously, to anything. Not sure how this works, but holy cow it doesn't move.

But.....

It's stickiness is so extreme that you need to know, if you put it anywhere except for the windshield good luck getting it off! I placed it on the dash and wanted to adjust it and had to pry it off with the back of my fingernail clippers. Although it didn't leave a mark, it sure scared me for a second.

Just where ever you plan to stick it, make sure that's where you want it because it's not moving without some considerable amount of force. For the Galaxy Note 2, as big and heavy as the phone is, it's a good and reassuring thing. But, wow...
