I replaced my high-mount tail lights with these suckers, as every 6 months a few of my bulbs would burn out. Replacing the rear bulbs with these was relatively easy as they were a good fit, but the lower plastic housing slipped right off when I was installing them. What junk, I had to discard it, but the negative lead on the led is very soft, some sort of junky recycled metal. 4 Stars for cost, shipping and relative use, but the bulb is low quality, and does not emit a huge amount of light. Expect a bit less than your typical incandescent.

I've got a couple of these maintainers. They are a great way to keep batteries charged up for months at a time. I got one at Northern Tool (chinese knockoff brand) that seemed to work ok until it died. I like this one better since its got a bit more power than a battery tender jr and it seems to work just as well. I've got a couple now. Have owned this now for many months. Use it to charge various batteries: deep cycle trolling motor, motorcycle, marine, auto. It took two old marine batteries I thought were dead and brought them back up to over 12 volts. Indeed this season the Optima battery in my boat went bad and it was on a charge maintainer for boats. I am using one of the marine batteries that is 5 years old this charger recharged as its replacement with no issues. It has not brought the Optima battery back; not sure about that brand of battery anymore as it died just after the three year warranty. Uncanny. This is also very easy to use by my kids, and around batteries that is paramount. Was concerned about longevity, but it is holding up just fine for now.

Bought these to replace cobra's I have had for years. First of all, does anyone expect any of these units to reach out 22 miles? Didn't think so. That said, these do a very good job in the hill country of Penna. We use them primarily for hunting and hiking. They will reach about 1 to 1 1/2 miles. A little more if you are on top of the hill. My old ones wouldn't quite go that far. They are very clear and navagating the menu is relatively easy, even for us older folk. Batt. packs last all day and charge overnite. I would say these are very good and are often found on sale. No regrets.

I was really apprehensive about purchasing these; I had read some of the comments about how 'fragile' these items appeared, and I couldn't afford to make a mistake. I was amazed at how sturdy these little buggers are, and astounded that people wrote such intimidating reviews based on the product's looks. They hold up just fine.

Having said THAT, I would like for any future purchasers to not get frustrated by the APPARENT lack of charging. 3 things to remember: 1) There's tape over all the electrical connections! Make sure you remove ALL the tapes...(I think there's 4or5 of them) before you charge. 2) Remember, the FIRST time, to charge these guys for 24 hours before you even THINK about removing them from the charger, otherwise you will shorten the amount of charge the batteries can hold. 3)The instructions do NOT state that these are not one-click for on/off devices: you have to hold the power button DOWN FOR FIVE SECONDS for these to turn on or off. I bought this adapter to charge my laptop during my semester abroad in Italy. It works really well for grounded appliances--any device that has an American-style plug with 3 prongs simply plugs in and the adapter then plugs into the Italian outlet. You can also use this adapter for an American-style plug with 2 prongs.

As one other reviewer mentioned, the only downside is that some Italian outlets only have 2 prongs and do not work with the grounded plug. However, I have not had a problem finding an outlet that works with this adapter, and I live in a pretty old apartment. I have four outlets in my room and all are grounded, as are the other outlets in my apartment.

Also, make sure to check that your device can convert power on its own. The easy way to do this is to check the label on the box for your charger. It will usually say something like 100-240V if it can convert power. If it only lists one number, you will have to purchase a converter to convert the voltage, since the adapter is not capable of doing so by itself.

I work in the US but live in Italy (sono Italiano), I would go with the two prong adapter rather than the three prong any day. No need for the "grounded" middle prong unless you want to hit your head against a wall when you find out that the place where you had in mind to charge your electronic toy will only accept the two prong! In short..with a two prong adapter..you will NEVER run into any problem..with this three prong...you better cross your fingers..dont say I didnt warn you guys. Also find the cheapest two prong adapter out there! There are plenty for around 1 dollar..remember..this will not work as a transformer!! Make sure you read the power voltage label that is on your device..in Italy the power is 220v in the US its 110v so if the U.S. device you plan on bringing to Italy is also good for 220v then a two prong adapter is all you need to bring to Italy. I would buy more than one just to stay on the safe side just in case you lose one. They also sell them in Italy but only at certain electronic shops that are mom and pop owened and you would need to drive around for ever to find that place that carries them. Otherwise you can purchase an adapter at any airport..only thing is that you will end up spending 20 dollars for one if you choose to go that route and like I said before a 10 cent adapter is all you really need.

This is a great price for a grounded adapter. I arrived quickly and we used it throughout our trip to Italy in Rome, Florence, Siena and Tuscany. No issues at all, product is very well made and not too bulky.

One note to be careful of many outlets only have 2 prongs and are not grounded, so this adapter does not work. We ran into this in the airport where the cell phone charging station only had 2-prong outlets. Fortunately we'd purchased 2 of those (via Amazon as well) but just keep in mind that 2 prong outlets make this virtually useless. We never hit that issue in any of our hotels though, as they were all 3 prong outlets.

I bought this to change tires at the race track. But I just keep finding uses for it. Tons of power for a cordless and decent run time on the little lithium batteries. At first the little batteries do not fit, but there is a ridge in the tool there to force you to use the big batteries. All you have to do is grind it off and the smaller kit batteries will fit. Works great for: driving in big lag bolts for a deck, changing a flat tractor tire in the middle of a field, swapping car tires.

What it does lack is variable speed, but this is a brute force tool anyway. The little led light is handy too. FYI, at the track, one battery will do almost 2 sets of tires tourqued to 100 ft/lbs.

I used to make my living as an auto mechanic. I used a friends Dewalt cordless 1/2" impact wrench and was very impressed but when I saw the price I backed off. I own several other makita tools that use the same lithium-ion battery and have been very happy with them. When this unit came up for less than half the price of the Dewalt I jumped. I still own a 1/2" air impact and this cordless wrench appears to have as much power as the air wrench. It is heavy especially with the battery but at least there is no hose attached to it. I like the shock absorbing battery mount. I think that's a great idea.

* Uses Makita's super lightweight 18V lithium battery.

* Forward and reverse are built into a single trigger. The top of 1/3 of the trigger activates reverse, while the bottom 2/3 operates the wrench in forward. No need to press a switch or button before changing directions.

CON'S:

* It's heavy plain and simple. Although that is probably to be expected from a powerful impact wrench.

I hestitated to buy this as I've heard stories from friends that many of these beasts don't have much torque to them. Well, I shouldn't have waited, this model is pretty much what I was hoping to get. It's got great battery life and plenty of torque. The ergonomics are good, but be pre-warned about the weight of it, it's pretty heavy. It's built like a tank, and I guess that I wouldn't want it any other way. It is easy to use, although the toggle switch to power it does take a few minutes to get used to. The first few minutes of using it, I found myself not paying attention to which way I was pushing the toggle and going the reverse direction to that which I intended. That was my stupid mistake, with any new tool you need to pay extra close attention to it the first few times you use it.

Edit to add that if you are working on some very tough/tight bolts, make sure that your battery is fully charged. These batteries are not supposed to show that property, but apparently they do when pulling a heavy torque. Well, at least I'm seeing it. I'll have to check the manual again to see if it mentions that.

The IC-A6, in my opinion, is a poorly designed unit. I'll use my old Icom unit as a comparison to indicate how the IC-A6 is the opposite of new and improved.

The IC-A6 is my second Icom radio. I purchased my first Icom somewhere in the '90s. I regret that I don't remember the model number, but it was somewhat larger than the IC-A6, gave me 12 years of good service, and was superior in every respect, including the size. How can larger be better? Read on, I'll explain.

As I said, the IC-A6 is smaller than the old unit. This would be a nice feature, but Icom completely negated any size advantage with bad belt hook design. It's a huge alligator-clip device. To hold the radio in your hand with that monstrosity on it is awkward. The older and larger unit was much more comfortable to operate despite its larger size.

The next un-improvement I'll discuss is the battery. On the old unit, the port for the trickle charger is on the battery. So I could charge a spare battery while I ran the radio on a primary battery. On the IC-A6, the charging port is on the radio itself. I can still carry a spare battery, but I can't charge it unless it's actually installed in the radio. I think this is just plain stupid design.

Here's another un-improvement related to the battery: The old unit had a red light to indicate the battery was taking a charge. There is no such indication on the IC-A6 to indicate that charging is taking place. I have plugged the charger into the IC-A6 and left it overnight only to discover it was plugged into a dead outlet.

And, speaking of battery charge, when operating the radio there's no battery gauge other than an indication on the display that shows only when the battery is about to expire. Nothing to give any indication of how much operating time you might have left on the current battery. And if you do switch to a fresh battery, you lose the belt clip. The clip is held with two screws to the battery rather than to the radio case.

The next un-improvement--adding a lanyard: My old Icom radio had a lug on each side that would fit small metal key rings that made it easy to attach a lanyard. I usually used a camera strap or banjo strap, the kind with the clip on each end. Worked great for carrying the thing around your neck so there was no risk of dropping it out of a hot-air balloon or losing it on the floor of a cockpit. But the IC-A6 has only a tiny little hole on one corner that doesn't fit any kind of metal ring that I can find. It only accepts the flimsy little carrying strap provided with the unit, or a thin piece of string slipped thru this awkward tiny hole, which can then be tied to an appropriate lanyard.

So. . . after all that, how does my IC-A6 perform? In a word, inadequately. Reception is broken up far more than other radios when several hand-held radios are in proximity and receiving the same transmission. I do not know if this is only my unit or if all IC-A6s behave the same way. Another complaint is that when I have spent an afternoon programing the unicom and tower frequencies of several airports into the IC-A6 memory using the airport identifiers for the display, the radio loses the information within 24 hours. Time wasted programing, and time wasted looking up and setting frequencies while flying.

I would not recommend buying this, or the IC-A24 radio, which uses the same case. I have no opinions of other current Icom models, as I have no experience with them, but from first hand experience, I consider the IC-A6 to be a piece of junk.

Pros: The frequency lock stays locked when the radio is turned off.

Cons: Clumsy to hold, can't charge battery if it's out of the radio, no charging progress indicator, can possibly damage battery from overcharging. Difficult to add a lanyard, unreliable performance.

I did a reception comparison some time back, and the A6 came out way ahead of the other scanners. Although the A6 is technically not a scanner, I am currently using it as a scanner. However, as the other commenter pointed out, the keyboard is somewhat cryptic and not so obvious how to use it. I didn't find the manual all that bad, but I can see how it can be difficult to follow. For product quality I would give this a 5 star, but for user friendliness may be 3 stars. My comparison of the scanners is here:

Best Deals for Icom IC -A6 Com Radio

It's a great radio. I use it as my only comm in a Champ with no electrical system along with a FlightTech ITC-401TC intercom. An LED or other indicator showing that the battery is really charging/charged when plugged into the wall charger would be a nice addition. Also, the manual is poorly written, especially the programming instructions. This radio has a reputation as being hard (impossible!) to program, which I shared until I found a couple of YouTube videos that showed how to do it. Once you understand the logic and key sequences, it's not that hard. Sarasota Avionics was a little slow getting the radio shipped, but it still arrived on time.

I was caught between the A6 and the Yeasu 310 and went with the A6 for two reasons. My instructor had an older (and better btw) ICOM and swore by it. I also chose the A6 as it has more accessories available. Now that I have tested it for a day I can say I am not impressed. For the money this is not worth it. I will back everyone else up with the two worst elements; no battery indicator for charging or anything else other than almost dead and a horrible manual. It uses a NiCad battery so it really does need a battery indicator ICOM. Also, the manual is useless. Just toss it out when you get the radio. Frustrating but I am considering returning this and giving the Yeasu a shot. Not cool ICOM! Way to aim low!

This radio has been a staple around our airport for some time now. We use them for airport operations, snowplow communications and lawn mowing equipment. In fact, the control tower people jokingly refer to it as their "number 2 com" (a monitor radio controllers can use while going "number 2"). It is a solid unit with a nice, big easy-to-read display. Reliability has been very good; I don't think I've ever sent one out for repair. When it wears out, you can use it as a wheel chock, but that won't happen anytime soon. Battery life is reasonable (not as long-lived as the Vertex but decent). Drop-in charger is a nice option to purchase. Be careful not to over-charge the nickel-metal batteries or they will not last. I would like to see a better battery meter on this unit but that's about my only complaint. Well... that and I wish it had a hi/lo power switch like some of its predecessors had. It's a lower cost alternative to permanently mounted equipment, especially if you are leasing, but an outside antenna on a vehicle ia a must-have accessory. This unit also has the headset adapter as a standard accessory (a $60 option which little brother A14 doesn't come with). Buy an A24 if you're going to use it airborne if VOR reception is important to you but the A6 fits the bill for me.

We bought 3 new VX8550 phones when we switched our cell carrier service to Verizon, but I was not about to shell out $90 for three car chargers. These work quite well. They are not as solid feeling as the ones in the Verizon store, but thay are LG branded, so I hope that means they'll be good and not ruin our batteries. So far, so good. With so many generics with questionable writeups, I was leery about buying anything online but afraid to pay the outrageous Verizon store prices. This one claimed to be made by LG, and while it does not have the LED that indicates when charging or when complete, it does do the job with no issues. The plug itself is a 90 degree one, so it removes a lot of the potential stress on the wire while laying it in the dash.

I've had this product for a little over a month and so far it works great. Haven't had to use it much yet, as the phone is a brand new LG enV (VX9900) and still holds a great charge. When I have used it, it charged the phone quickly, didn't overcharge, and the phone held the charge for quite some time. It's a handy size, too--it fits right in my splitter without taking up more than its fair share of space. I like this impact driver especially because I got it at a good price around the holidays. I've been using it for four or five months now, and it's past the time when cheap tools break. I've used it pretty hard in my shop, and it's starting to show some dings and scratches from being banged around, but it hasn't missed a beat.

The one I got came with the smaller LX battery, which runs the driver pretty well, but the battery life is on the short side for a full-sized tool.

So is it better than other brand's impact drivers? well no, but it's cheaper than most of the other premium brands and nearly as good. I also have a Milwaukee 18V impact driver which is probably more powerful than this PC but it's also bigger and heavier and I bought the PC for less than a replacement Milwaukee lithium battery alone.

I like the size and power of this Porter Cable. The ergonomics of this tool are good, and it has enough power to drive lag screws into a 4x4 (I did that the other day with it). I don't really care too much for the LED light, but I've only got one tool that has a useful LED headlight.

It can drive long wood screws easily, but most of the time I use this tool while I'm working on cars. I put a 3/8 socket adapter on it and it will do much of what a 3/8 air impact would do without lugging around an air hose. For example last month I rebuilt a Toyota automatic transmission. There are 18 10mm bolts on the oil pan this makes quick work of those. There are about 14 12mm bolts holding the case halves together again this will zip them right out and back in. There are about 20 bolts holding the valve body on well you get the idea. Having a tool like this makes a job like that much, much quicker, and the compactness of this tool allows you to get into tight spaces with it. It's not a replacement for a full sized impact; you can't get really tight bolts with it, but for general work, it's great.

For screws, I generally resort to one of my compact 12v cordless drivers (I have Bosch, Makita and Milwaukee in that size) and they do most of what this tool will do in a more compact size, but this 18V is more useful for automotive or industrial disassembly/assembly work.

Great all around tool for the DIYer. Very good price. LX batteries are a little weak. 4 stars

I borrowed one of these from a friend a couple weeks ago to put together a swing set that my wife and I bought for our son. I used it for 7 days straight as we assembled this massive swing set. I always had a backup battery charging, so it was always ready to go to work. I was never disappointed with the performance of this Impact. I was so impressed I got on Amazon and had one sent 2nd Day Air. The battery lasted a long time, especially for what I was using it for originally. I also went to Lowes and picked up the orbital saw and work light, and I've been very impressed with all the tools so far. I think Porter-Cable makes a good, quality tool, without having to broke on each purchase. I plan on purchasing the entire 18V line in the near future.

This would have saved me so much time and frustration in the past. Every time I use it now, i kick myself for not having gotten it before i put together my son's big outdoor play set.

it is soooo much easier/better then a standard corded/cordless drill for driving screws. no more stripping screw heads.

I just built a little platform for the bottom of the slide to attach to, and to make the slide less steep (got too short of a slide), and there were places where I could not hammer a heavy duty 3" nail because of a knot. the nails would bend no matter how i tried. I used this with a 3" screw instead, fairly thick gage, and it drove it all the way in no problem.

it is very loud when in full impact mode (whenever it meets resistance). neighbors will not appreciate the sound.

I bought this to drive a large quantity of screws and was told it is far more effective than my pC screw gun. So for 44 bucks I bought the tool only and started driving screws. My experience was far fewer stripped heads, better penetration, longer battery life and less swearing.

Since then I bought a bit bit driver set and use this driving tech screws, bolts on mechanical equipment and of course screws. Now all I use my screw gun for is drilling holes, never to drive screws. The reason I bought the second full set I am reviewing here is because my wife keeps stealing mine so I needed another set to keep my tools in MY box.
