This charge card is worth every penny. I bought it out of necessity, having forgotten my cell phone charger, in JFK airport. Since it was only $5 more then a wall charger, and had the capability of charging everything I figured it was worth the chance.

Pros:

Lightweight

comes with it's own pouch/carrying case

Every tip possible (even obscure kinds and general female USB)

Keeps the charge for a very long time (week plus) without use

Charges cell phone, kindle, iPod Classic/Nano/Touch (older models) quickly

Cons

Carrying case doesn't securely close (some of the very small tips could fall out)

No way to replace usb cord (that goes from powercard to devices) if you lose it without buying another unit

Every tip possible

Does not charge iPod Touch 4g

Since everything is home in the pouch it's not terribly difficult to keep track of all the small pieces. It's when the pouch falls upside down in your bag and you have to reach in to find all the tiny parts that is a pain. Additionally I actually lost the USB cord while traveling with work. Thankfully it turned up a few weeks later when a coworker asked if I knew what it was for, otherwise I'd have been out another $50 just to replace the cord. Since it is short and is detachable from the main card it can be difficult not to misplace in the myriad of computer cords that I walk around with.

This unit has gone so far as to replace my cell phone charger when going on short trips. It's able to recharge my Palm Pre 4-5 times before dying which is very impressive. It goes from 0% to 100% in about the same time as the wall charger (1.5-3hrs) but is much easier since I can keep my phone close and not have to worry about being near an outlet. I have also used it as a replacement battery for my iPod classic 4g which has a dead internal battery.

When charging the card the LED indicator lights can be quite bright they flash/pulse the charging status until complete, then they just remain on. It's good to keep this away from other small items that can push the "on" button since you lose power faster that way.

This charge card/backup battery is probably the most reliable I have encountered, over a year old and still going strong. I am considering purchasing another so I can have two when I am traveling and charge two devices at once.

I have had this Fat Cat charger for at least a year. While I don't have to use it often, it has kept my cell phone going when I've needed it. I keep the charger in my purse or, when traveling, backpack. I have learned that it does indeed hold its charge for 3-4 months when not used which means it's ready when I need it.

I wish it could be charged from a wall plug as charging via a USB port is slow although okay if done overnight.

For convenience, I wish the charger came with its own carry bag as it is necessary to carry the charger card, connecting wire and terminal swap-out connectors. I found a small, wallet-type bag that works for me but a custom designed, compact bag would be a nice addition to this product. It would be nice if the bag was not all black, so it could be easily found at the bottom of a bag which is where it ends up when not used for a while.

The drill is fine, and comes with a typical bit set, but the battery life is awful. Forget using it if it's been sitting on the shelf for a month. You've got to charge both batteries before doing anything just so you can make it through the job.

Hate the poor battery life! Whenever I need it, it's drained! Even if fully charged a day or two ago! Also, it carries a Kawasaki logo (the reason a lot of people buy it) but its made by AllTrade which, to me, is a misrepresentation and sort of deceitful (unless you are into reading fine prints!). Overall it gets the work done but is not reliable when you need it, for above reason.

Will not buy again!

Best Deals for Kawasaki 840051 Black 19.2-Volt 20-Piece Cordless Drill Kit

I used this drill/driver for a several months, and it worked OK for an inexpensive tool. Then I was notified that there was a recall on the chargers by All Trade Tools. Some of the batteries were incompatible with the charger and would overheat and blow up.

The new charger arrived a few weeks later. It is flimsier than the original, and I had to cut away the carrying case to make it fit. They also gave me a coupon for $10 off and free shipping for any Kawasaki tool I bought through their site. The problem is that only a few of the Kawasaki tools can be bought from their site. There was nothing that I wanted to buy, even at $10 off (and I'm a tool junkie!) I wasn't going to pay them $10 for a "$20" drill bit set that I didn't really need, just to use the coupon. Why give them more money?

There are many inexpensive tools on the market. I won't be buying All Trade Tools or Kawasaki brand tools again.

Honest reviews on Kawasaki 840051 Black 19.2-Volt 20-Piece Cordless Drill Kit

Do not buy this drill. First battery charger was recalled due to potential fire hazard. Replacement battery charger does not charge the batteries. The batteries are of poor quailty and will not hold a charge for longer than a few hours.

I purchased one of these as I thought that a 19.2 volt battery would offer plenty of power and battery life. Shortly after purchasing it one battery died and I soon found out that the other battery did not hold a charge very long either. I finally threw it away after about six months so I would have to purchase a decent drill.

1) I received this in the mail. 2) I plugged it into my 32GB iPhone 3GS that was a couple months old and working fine. 3) about 10 hours later (the next morning) I unplugged it and the iPhone was completely nonfunctional. Totally dead. A BRICK.

Additional info: The iPhone had a screen protector on it. When I unplugged it in the morning, the edge of the screen protector seemed to have come off a little on its own. I see this as a clue that perhaps the external battery unit had somehow made the iPhone overheat. Perhaps this excessive heat is what rendered the iPhone nonfunctional.

Bottom line: This cheap Chinese-made device apparently bricked my iPhone. I'm surprised that 15 minutes of Googling around hasn't turned up any similar experiences with this device, so maybe this was just a bad-luck fluke. YMMV.

I purchased this at a kiosk in the local mall. It is a great tool, compact and easy to use. It just plugs into your charging cord and doesn't take long to charge. I keep it in my purse so if I am in a situation where I can't easily charge my iphone. Actually I gave my charger this past week to my daughter for her iphone, so I will be purchasing another to replace.

BTW...the cost here is a lot cheaper than what it cost me in the mall ($35). Everytime I went back to the kiosk to purchase another they were out. Other vendors wanted to charge $50, so I definitely will be purchasing on Amazon.

Best Motorcycle Battery Hard Wire Charging Cable for Garmin Nuvi Deals

Motorcycle Battery Hard Wire Charging Cable for Garmin Nuvi

You can actually tell that the person who designed and made this product rides a motorcycle. Build quality is great and the set includes all necessary components. Installation is fast and easy. Just connect the red and black ends to you battery terminal and you are done.

Well, you still need to run/hide the cable to make it look nice and neat but that's something the manufacturer can't help you with. They, however gave you enough cable so you won't have problems even on a large bike.

What you get in the package are: main cable that connects to the battery and has weather sealed connector that accepts the other cable that actually terminates with a mini usb plug. Included voltage reducer (from 12v to 5.2v) has on/off switch and a green light indicating when the system is on, so you won't accidentally drain you battery. There is also a safety fuse. They also included wire wraps and Velcro tape for cable management. It took me about 30 minutes to finish the work. Most of time was used by planing the run of the cable. Charger worked immediately after installing and my Nuvi 260w gps worked perfectly fine. I took my bike on the road the very same day and went where I have never been before. I couldn't have asked for more. This is so much better than 3 feet of basic wire offered by others.

I have purchased many inverters for my service truck, RV, boat, and emergency home backup, and this is what I have learned...

Buying a large inverter is confusing. Most people want their inverter to run the "continuous" loads that they have, plus have enough surge power to start air conditioners, microwaves, sump pumps, etc. Seems simple enough, but when they purchase an inverter, usually it can't handle the startup surge they were hoping. Herein is the problem: most people don't understand "Surge Duration".

Most inverters can put out more than their rated "continuous" output for surge. But the question is: How long can the inverter provide that surge? The vast majority of consumer inverters can only provide surge for 2 seconds with most less than 1 second! This is totally inadequate for hard starting appliances. I have measured the surge on my 2 hp air compressor, and it lasted about 5 seconds before it settled out to its "continuous" wattage. My 1000 watt microwave settles down at about the 3 second mark.

So what to do? Always look for an inverter with a long surge duration. The bigger inverter companies sell them, but they are usually labeled "Industrial" or "Commercial", and are much more expensive.

Which brings me to the Whistler Pro Inverters. Whistler Pro's have something they call "Smart Surge Control" that provides the surge wattage for close to 10 seconds. That is the longest I have found of any low priced consumer based inverter. I gave several a shot, and they work as advertised! They have more than enough surge duration to start my hard starting appliances like A/C, microwave, air compressor, large power tools, sump pump, etc. My 3000 watt Whistler (5000 watt surge) can start my hard starting RV air conditioner with no problem while also running my microwave!

...So add up your continuous wattage needs. Then find the wattage of your most surge hungry appliance (here is a great chart ) and size your inverter based on those calculations.

Example:

Rated running watts ("continuous") of my lights + fridge + sump pump = 1440 running watts

Largest Surge wattage appliance is my big sump pump = 2700 surge watts

Pick the inverter that is above both ratings, in this case I would get a Whistler Pro 1600. It is rated at 1600 watts running continuous, 3200 surge.

Remember: inverters require VERY HIGH current, so the 12v cables have to be VERY large to work correctly. For larger inverters (1500 watt+) the cables need to be LARGER than the cables you see on your car battery. Large cables are expensive, stiff and heavy, but are a MUST! Your inverter will NOT run correctly without them! Follow the cable sizing guides, and don't skimp or you will be disappointed with your inverter's performance! I cannot stress this enough. Also, keep the 12v connectors clean and tight for reliable power.

Lastly, let's talk about your batteries:

Home backup, off grid or RV (large) inverter use requires more than one deep cycle battery, usually many more. Check with an inverter pro to size your battery bank correctly BEFORE you purchase your inverter.

For those of you that are running an inverter in an idling single battery vehicle, the vehicle alternator makes your battery look bigger than it is. In my truck I have a 165 amp alternator with a 1600 watt continuous inverter. It works terrific with the engine idling. I just don't use the inverter with the engine off. The continuous large current draw on an ordinary car battery will shorten its life considerably if the engine is not running. I could install a battery isolator with a second battery, but if I leave the truck idling, that isn't necessary. Remember, BIG cables, TIGHT clean connectors!

I hope this helps you with your inverter buying quest... Good shopping ;-)

Added on Jan 2 2013...

Just to clear up some confusion about using an inverter in a running vehicle:

If you draw more amps than the alternator can produce at idle, you will drain your battery. Once the battery voltage drops below about 10.5 volts, the inverter will shut itself down. Most alternators produce about 30%-40% of their output at idle. High output replacement alternators are readily available. Just Google "high output alternator". Be sure to increase the size of the alternator hot wire if necessary to support the higher amps of the replacement alternator...

Before reading, this is meant as a review and not a guide. However, I put some tips that worked for me, but this doesn't mean they'll work in another individual's situation.

BACKGROUND STORY:

Living in the NJ/NY area, we don't see a lot of hurricanes or even tropical storms. Once in a while, Mother Nature decides to give us a taste of what one can do. Originally being from MA and also living several years in eastern NC, I've seen what damage they can do. I knew some type of backup power may be necessary. Without operation sump pumps in my basement, it would certainly flood. As Hurricane Irene came bearing down on NY/NJ expecting to arrive on Saturday night, early Thursday I frantically looked for a generator. Home Depot, Lowes, Sears were already sold out across the northeastern seaboard. As you can imagine, they don't stock a lot here. Then I had an idea. A POWER INVERTER! I quickly logged on to Amazon and looked for a 3000W that could handle my two sump pumps. I paid the extra shipping fee to guarantee arrival by Saturday morning. Sure enough it arrived when promised. THANKS, AMAZON!

Well, needless to say Irene hit my area with a massive amount of rain. Eventually our local substation flooded and I had no power. The sump pump wells started to fill quickly. Thanks to my power inverter, I was able to react! I hooked it up and got those pumps running saving my basement. I saved my neighbors basement too!

So what does this inverter do? Basically it inverts power from DC (i.e. a car battery, marine battery or deep cycle battery) to AC (110V) which your appliances need to run. In the case of the car battery hook up, your car acts as a generator (recharging batter via alternator when your car is running).

THE SET UP

I knew very little about this type of equipment, but it was surprisingly easy to set-up. I followed the instructions as listed in the manual. I have replaced car batteries in the past, so maybe that's why this seemed fairly straightforward to me. If you're not familiar with car batteries, you may want someone to assist you. Be safe!

MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE WIRES! I am referring to the cables/wires that lead from the inverter to your car battery. I didn't purchase them when I bought the inverter. I had to go to the local auto parts store and beg them to build me two about an hour before the storm arrived. This included purchasing the wire and having the proper ends added and crimped which requires a special tool. See manual for gauge required. It depends on the length of wire you need.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE GROUND WIRE (see manual for specs)

THE USE

Once hooked up to your car battery, follow the proper procedure for start-up. Then you just need to plug in your appliances into the 3 outlets provided.

Insure all connections are good!

Turn on inverter and your appliances should be powered!

Fairly simple, right?

TIPS

Purchase Whistler power cables when you purchase the inverter. If you don't, then bring the inverter and manual to a local auto parts or auto electrician to build the wires for you.

If using your car battery, one obviously doesn't want your car running in an attached garage/area without proper airflow AND ventilation. I unfortunately (?) have a detached garage which was a blessing in this case. I had my car half way in with it's tail end sticking out. Kept everything dry and no worries about asphyxiation.

You don't need the car running all the time. However, depending on the appliances you're using and how much you're using them will determine the amount of drain you'll be pulling on your car's battery. If the voltage from your car battery gets too low, the inverter will shut down and an alarm will sound. Nothing will be getting powered once this happens. You'll need to turn off the inverter, start your car engine and turn inverter back on.

Keep an eye on the voltage usage and wattage usage frequently. The alarm is not that loud, so if your neighbor is running a generator you may not hear it.

If running several appliances at once, you may need to some "power management". I was switching in and out pumps in order to avoid any overload (I was also helping a neighbor drain his basement).

Do some homework on the appliances that you're planning to run. Make sure you understand the wattage each needs to run. Remember, certain appliances like sump pumps and refrigerators need a lot more wattage to start-up than run continuously. For example, when my sump pump would start up it would pull close to 2000 Watts. Once it was running, it was only use 700 watts. So imagine your refrigerator and 2 sump pumps happen to start at the same time. You'll probably set off the auto shutdown. So just be aware of those situations.

When turning your inverter on after a shutdown, unplug all cords. Then plug one in, wait a bit, then plug in another...etc. Again, you don't want all appliances starting at same time (even though the 3000W has something like a 5000W peak...why push it???)

BOTTOM LINE:

I would recommend this item!

Just got this charger recently so I haven't had a lot of time to evaluate it. I like the fact that it is waterproof as some other brands of marine chargers I looked at were not. The charger seems well made and works as advertised. I know some people have taken issue with the fact that the charger switches banks every 5 minutes when charging but this seems a better situation to me than a typical 15 amp, 3 bank charger that only gives each battery 5 amps max. I say this because during the initial charge the batteries will accept the full 15 amps during the five minute sequence and that should help with mixing electrolyte and desulfating the plates, while guarding against heat and boil-over. The Schumacher has true 3 stage (bulk--adsorption--float) charging and the overall charge time seems at least as fast as the typical 15 amp total, 5 amp per bank charger. All in all I am happy with this charger. I have another Schumacher that is over 30 years old and still going strong. While that kind of reliability may be an unrealistic expectation, it makes it all the more likely that this charger will end up being an outstanding value.

Internal cooling fan makes god-awful noises right out of the box (lots of starting/stopping, speeding up/slowing down), which I can live with... but the evidently cheap little fan was not up to the task and died within a couple of months. Pulled it all out of the boat, sent it back under warranty, reinstalled the repaired unit, and, guess what... the same thing happened. The case never gets hot so I just ran it with the non-functioning fan. Kept all three batteries topped off OK for a couple of years.

Now I get a red indicator saying one of my batteries is bad. Removed the battery and had it checked at the parts store. Battery is fine. Swapped the charging leads among my three batteries and the charger now says ANOTHER battery is bad (the problem is with the #3 bank in the charger). Doesn't seem to be charging on the third battery now. I don't have time for this crap. I'm just going to pull it out and go with a different unit (Minn Kota maybe).

This is just a cheapo, unreliable unit. I've had several Schumacher products in the past and was pleased with them, but this one is junk.

This product is a perfect 2amp charger for long term battery maintenance. It is NOT a fast charger and isn't designed for rapid charging of a fully discharged battery. It is designed to be plugged in and left on for long periods of time. While 2 amps may not seem like much, competitors products of which I own 2 as well are typically only 1amp. Here's the breakdown,

PROS

Easy to understand LED readout

Multiple connection types (Hard Wire, Clip)

Lightweight design (Compared to metal housings on others)

The product properly maintains my motorcycle battery as described, but it emits a high-pitched humming noise very similar to the every day ringing in my ears (tinnitus). The noise is constant whether maintaining a batter or not.. the unit just has to be plugged into the outlet. Friends who are in the garage for a few minutes always ask me "What's that sound??". The product works fine but I might switch brands if I ever need a new one.

Best Deals for Schumacher SP-1 2/4-Amp 6/12-Volt Automatic Battery Charger/Extender

Having once had the good fortune to be in the factory, and to meet the patriarch of this brand, I have always been a fan of their products. I have a car charger from the 1970s and it is still in use regularly without failure and even looks new.

This new mini charger is what I use to keep my ATV ready. The utility connections are excellent and they include all the plug choices to fit your needs. I put the connection on with the two plugs and it is a snap to re-hook the charger for storage when I return the ATV to the garage. Very nice. The status lights are logical, the charger itself is quiet and is quite small to not take up space in the garage. Very small, in fact. These people are good folks and the products they make are high quality: buy this charger and forget about it.

Honest reviews on Schumacher SP-1 2/4-Amp 6/12-Volt Automatic Battery Charger/Extender

I typically like Schumacher battery products, for the money they are much better than Battery Tender chargers. That said, this is ONLY a 2 amp charger and not capable of 4 amps (which would make it good for cars as well). So don't purchase it for cars, motorhomes and boats unless you want something only to maintain a charge.

The Zumo is a great motorcycle GPS but it does have its flaws.

The first thing you'll notice is that the Zumo doesn't come with a printed users guide. Garmin expects you to download the PDF version. It was easy to find on-line and this approach is fine since we're all supposed to be going green. What ships in box is a quick start guide. The web site says "installation instructions" are included but this is not accurate. The only installation information is contained in the quick start guide. It's pretty basic but more than adequate unless you want to attempt installing the wiring harness. If you plan on using the wiring harness you need to know how to tap into the electrical on your bike and handle all of the cable routing yourself or take it to a pro for assistance. (One note on the wiring harness: the cable doesn't include anything to cover the USB/power connector so if you install the harness and don't have the GPS unit plugged in the end of the power adapter is fully exposed to the elements.)

The second thing you'll notice is the device doesn't come with a wall charger. There is the permanent wiring harness and a car charger but they didn't include a wall charger. With a battery life of almost 8 hours I planned on just charging the unit at night and skipping the wiring harness since nearly all of my rides are under 8 hours. For the cost of the unit I was disappointed that I had to scavenge to find a power charger.

The battery life provided on Garmin's website states "up to 8 hours". I think this is a bit of a stretch. If you turn the volume off, turn the screen brightness down to under 50% (the default), and turn off Bluetooth you can get close to 8 hours. When riding with voice prompts, screen brightness at 80 to 90 (on a sunny day) and Bluetooth enabled I was able to get just over 5 hours of battery life. Still very respectable and more than most motorcyclists need for a single day.

One of the nicest features of the Zumo 220 is the ability to plan your routes on your PC and load them on to the GPS unit using Garmin City Navigator. It's easy to install but the unlock code, which is needed to use the maps, comes on a non descript yellow sheet that looks like something you should simply ignore or throw away. You need this special yellow sheet so be careful or you'll be explaining to your wife why you're digging through the garbage! Once installed and unlocked City Navigator is great. It's easy to use and simple to transfer routes to and from the GPS unit.

The GPS unit itself is a nice size but a little thick. If you're thinking you'll just throw this unit into your back pocket you can but there are two issues. First the unit is thicker than you expect and you will be aware of the bulge in your back pocket it's not a petite unit. Second there is no power lock and it's very easy to turn the unit on when inserting the unit into your pocket or when moving around. It would have been better to have some sort of power button lock. I've resorted to removing the battery from its waterproof compartment, which is easy and quick to do.

The user interface is very intuitive and most of the data fields presented on main page can be customized, even when in motion. The keyboard is easy to use and has two modes that basically change the size of the buttons on the screen to make it easier to use when wearing gloves.

One nice feature is the fuel tank alert. Just enter the total mileage you expect to get from a tank of fuel and how many miles before empty that you want warnings and the unit keeps track of everything. Interesting note: the unit has multiple modes like driving, motorcycling, scooter etc. The only mode that fuel tank alerts work is when in motorcycle mode.

Another solid feature of the unit is if you do switch between a motorcycle and a car the Zumo 220 remembers your preferences for the route types of each mode. This makes it nice not having to reprogram anything when going between modes.

I have encountered a few issues with custom voices downloaded from the Garmin Garage. On at least one of the custom voices the unit seems to get confused and reboots on occasion. Changing back to the preinstalled voices seems to have fixed this quirky problem.

I have a big v-twin and my bike has a healthy dose of vibrations, especially when accelerating or using engine braking. The Zumo 220 is rugged enough to handle the vibrations with ease and the RAM mounts that came with the unit work great. One note on the u-bar attachment for the handlebar: If you have larger handlebars than 1 inch you're going to need to run out to your local hardware store to get a larger u-bar. If you've got a 7/8" 1", like most people, you'll be fine.

Overall the Zumo 220 is a high quality unit that's easy to use, rugged and ready to hit the road. Just plan on doing a little extra shopping for things that Garmin should have included, especially given the high price point of this unit.

I bought this to replace a Zumo 450 that was badly flawed from the day I got it. I annoyed me to have to spend so much money to replace something a year and half old, but I needed it desperately.

Cons

--The screen is really small

--Unlike previous generations, the controls are all touch screen. I liked the real buttons on the 450

--There is only one view in the trip computer. I liked the old one with the speed displayed largely in the middle

--MapSource is still pathetic. Transferring routes to the device is very slow and difficult. You have to cross check every route at large detail to find out if you did something like put a waypoint on the wrong side of a multiple lane road (which will lead MapSource to route you off the interstate at the next exit and go back to pick up that waypoint, then get you back on your desired route). Also, it is vital to set the route recalculation on manual or MapSource will occasionally decide to play practical jokes like routing you on dirt logging roads.

--Getting from menu to menu is more complex. There were times I had to hit "back" 3 or 4 times to return to the map

Pros

--Much faster to react and calculate than the 450

--Instant on

--The display, while small, is sharp

--Like the speed limit display on the side of the map

--You are able to decide which information shows at the bottom corner of the map from about 10 different things (arrival time, distance to destination, average speed, etc)

--The 220 comes with a car mount and charger and these were additional with the 450

Unlike the 450, the 220 does not have a locking screw to connect it to the RAM mount. I miss this because I used to feel comfortable running in for a coffee break with the device left mounted. The 220 is removed with only a flip lever, so I have to disconnect it and put it in my sidebags or pockets every time I leave the bike.

Unlike the 450, the 220 comes with bluetooth but that is sort of irrelevant to me.

The 220 uses a micro SD card instead of a regular one. These tiny little boogers are hard to install.

Of course, the big question is whether a Zumo is worth twice the cost of a Nuvi with similar features. I rode 920 miles in the two days after my Zumo arrived and hit some rain, so it was really nice to not have to stop and put a baggie over it.

1> I sold my Nuvi 500 and bought the Zumo 220 so that I could have bluetooth audio.

The problem is that the GPS connects as a BT Cell Phone and not a BT Audio device. This means I can't connect my bluetooth cell phone to my Cardo Scala Rider G4 headset and make phone calls if the headset is paired to the GPS. My confirmation of the GPS's connection type was made by connecting the GPS to my Sony bluetooth radio; no sound plays if I have the radio set for BT Audio, only for BT Cell Ph.

Cardo weighed in on the matter and said:

When using the Garmin Zumo 220 with our headsets you will not be able to have any other bluetooth connections paired to the G4 or you will contunue to have connection issues. This GPS will not allow a headset and phone to have parallel connections that will allow all devices to communicate.

2> I wanted to use the GTM 25 FM Traffic adapter with the unit and use the GTM 25's USB plug instead of the hardwired plug that came with the cradle.

You can't do this because the GTM 25's USB plug is longer. The design of the cradle is such that there is a pocket to press on the end of the USB connector, holding this in. The standard one fits; the traffic one does not. So, you have a motorcycle GPS which supports traffic, but not on a motorcycle. I may try one of my Nuvi 500 holders which have an opening for the USB connector.

3> I bought this GPS because it has large letters for typing names.

You select which portion of the alphabet you want to see and you get a handful of large letters. The problem is the erase button in the upper right corner. It is not large. Good luck trying to press it with large gloves on. No typos allowed.

You get a lot for the Money. Comes with the Motorcycle Mount and the Automobile windshield Mount and the wiring to hard wire it into your motorcycle. A USB wire to connect to Computer. Does not come with a household wall plug charger. Also comes with a Car cigarette lighter plug to charge it and enable you to use it while driving down the road. Battery only last about 8 hrs otherwise. Just snaps out of the Motorcycle Cradle and snaps right into the Car windshield suction cup cradle. Has a large screen and an easy touch screen to manuever around. I like the on/off button on the top. Does all the things you now expect from a GPS.

Gives data fields such as odometer, Speed, heading, elevation, time to turn, arrival distance, arrival time, via distance, via arrival time, time to Via, stopped time, moving time, total time, and a few worthless fields such as sunrise, sunset, moving average speed, overall average speed, and maximum speed, and has a compass for walking, Very user friendly. Has a calculator, worthless world clock, worthless Unit Converter. Shows 2 data fields and zoom number and time when viewing the map and with a quick touch you can access all the data fields which I like to see.

All the screen Icons are Really large and the touch screen works really well. Talks to you very clearly and names the streets you are going to turn on. Has lane assist to make sure your in the proper lane to make the correct turn ahead. Sound mute if you don't want to hear anything and One of my favorites, You can shut the recalculating feature off.

Can tap into the bluetooth for your phone only. Got to have special set up for that too. Doesn't play bluetooth Music. They can probably cut the cost down eliminating that feature account most motorcycle riders can't hear anything anyway while moving 50-100 mph down the road. I see that as a worthless option.

You can put Pictures on it if you want. I don't see me using that feature. I guess you can use it to identify land marks you want to route to such as the space needle or something, or your pets picture for something to drool on while you driving/riding.

If you have 3 or 4 routes made up on you computer and want to transfer them to the Zumo you can only do one at a time not all at once. Then you have to go to another step "My Data" and import the route. Kinda a 2 step process that should only be one step.

DVD Software goes on the Computer realitively easy. Had a little trouble with some of the unlock process of the Map Source City Navigator North America NT. Called Garmin, got somebody immediatley, which blew me away, and within a couple minutes I was off the phone and enjoying my new Zumo 220.

OK so after all that I would highly recommend this Zumo 220. Everything is large and easily accessable and extremely user friendly. The price is a little steep and probably has some features you ain't gonna use. But if you buy one your not going to be sorry. It is a rugged unit and I love it. Go buy one for yourself!

Aside from the slow performance of the software, and the expensive updates, there is an even bigger problem with Garmin. If you need parts or service, you will be severely disappointed.

I dropped my unit and cracked a part of the frame. The part that cracked came off the unit, but you can easily see that a replacement part would just snap into place. Problem is, they do not offer any parts for sale and have no way of obtaining them since they are manufactured in Korea. Since my unit is just beyond warranty, it would cost me $120 (minimum) to send the unit in and have them replace it with a refurbished one.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I was on the phone for 40 minutes before I was able to even get this level of non-service.

No more Garmin for me. Ever.

***UPDATE: MAY 2012****

After updating the maps on my Garmin device last week, it stopped working. I phoned their support (again, I had to wait over 40 minutes before speaking to a human), and after 15 minutes of troubleshooting, the rep on the phone finally found out that the latest map update was known to render my particular device useless. Can you believe this? I was told I had to return my unit, and then they would send me a new (or reconditioned) one.

I just checked the status of my case, and guess what? They are BACKORDERED on my device.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANY GARMIN PRODUCTS UNDER ANY CONDITION! Their service and support is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I thought I was supporting a domestic company, but I was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
