I bought this to extend the wires out of my luggage (ammo box) on my DR650 so I could keep the shorai charger safely locked in the luggage container while being able to still keep it hooked up to my battery. It turns out it's just like the one that came with the charger, so you can't hook the 2 together to get twice the length. So it's more or less a spare for me.

I had a shorai in my KTM 530, and bought the special charger that is needed for it if you want to top off the battery over the winter. I used the included cable (that comes with the charger) on that bike to have a quick connect for painless charging. After adding a KTM 990 Adventure to the stable, and buying a Shorai battery for it as well, all I needed was a quickconnect cable for that bike, so I could use my existing charger on each bike. That's what this is. It seems to include an extra 6V connector as well, though I'm only using the 12v.

Only minor complaint the rubber cap for the connector end has a tendency to disappear, so you could get dirt and crud into that connector if you don't tape it off while flying through the forest:)

When I got this item, I followed the instructions, and it did not work. I looked on the internet and saw a tip to not plug in the automatic charger while using it to play music. It works fine doing it that way. I was able to find a station on 88.3 fm. I can charge my player overnight. I am liking the ability to play music from my Sandisk MP3.

The cord length (from tip of charger to tip of connector):

Not stretched-out: about 3 feet

Stretched-out: about 6 feet and 8 inches.

A note about the "stretched-out" length:

If stretched to its limit, then there is tension in the cord (maybe enough to pull the charger from the socket). So you may want to assume about 6 feet in length, which would place less tension on the charger/socket.

The charger (the part that plugs into the 12V socket) is about 4.5 inches long.

For my application, I'm able to tie-off the cord near the beginning and near the end, so only the middle part of the cord gets the most tension (so I don't have to be concerned about the charger or the connector pulling-out due to tension in the cord).

The connector is a mini-USB (not a micro-USB)...know the difference before you buy. Motorola makes this charger in both sizes.

There is a faint green LED light that glows when the unit is "on". It lights the circular area on the charger. It's difficult to see during daylight, and it is not obtrusive at night.

There is a small clip near the charger side of the cord, so the cord can be bundled-up a bit if needed.

I bought this because of the great price on Amazon. I use it to plug into my Seidio car cradle for my Motorola Droid phone (serves as my GPS). The original charger cable frayed where the mini-USB plugs into the cradle because it's basically at a 90 degree angle. This charger adapter seems much better made and hasn't shown any signs of wear. It fits snuggly into my power/lighter slot, isn't too larger, and produces a nice cobalt blue light. I think this has been a very good purchase.

Two things to pay attention to:

When charging (and this is true of any such unit) make SURE ground is NOT touching painted surface, it MUST make contact with raw metal.

Use the battery terminal ground at your own risk, if you do so for whatever reason, be sure there is NO fluid or fumes coming from battery.

The built-in indicator showing the units strength must be used when unit is ACTUALLY charging, otherwise false reading may occur.

This charger works exactly as designed. It's an incredibly compact unit, and it has built-in cables which can be wrapped right onto the chassis, which saves an incredible amount of space and makes it very easy to carry/move/store.

I had a riding lawnmower that was draining batteries and constandly needed to be jumped off of my truck battery, which was incredibly cumbersome. Carrying this starter out to the lawnmower, jumping it, and then mowing the lawn was 100 times easier than backing out my truck, popping the hood, untangling the cables, pulling the mower out in front of the truck, and then jump-starting it. I've since repaired the lawnmower, but am keeping this handy little charger around for my wife's car, just in case she needs it. It barely takews up any room at all, and it holds quite a charge. I've jump-started my riding lawnmower twice and the battery indicator didn't even drop (I would imagine a car would take a much higher charge and therefore drain the battery more), but it still shows how much this charger is capable of holding.

If you're looking for a portable jump-starter, this is the one for you.

I have an remote starter on my car and after work I figured I'll start my car as I walk to it. The car didn't start but the headlights were on. I went inside the car and tried to start it with the key and nada. No noise or anything. My automatic starter must've glitched. I kept trying to turn the key to start my car in hopes by magic it'll turn over. NO luck. I stopped to think for a second and then figured I'll put the car in valet mode (it's for the auto starter) to see if I could bypass the remote starter. I did and nothing. My last option was to see if i killed the battery by trying to start it so many times. I took this out of my trunk that hasn't been charged in 4 months and connected the red to the red battery terminal and the black to a nut some where on the engine. The green light turned on telling me I had a correct circuit. I then turned the knob to power on the jumper. I ran to the driver's seat and tried to start it. A sign of life! It's trying to turn over. I counted to 4 and then tried it a second time and it turned right on. The scream i let out could have been heard in China (where it was most likely made). I purchased two of these units around Christmas time (Black Friday Specials). Not long after changing up the units, I had the opportunity to test them out. My neighbors 4 cylinder Nissan wouldn't start, and he came over looking for jumper cables. I proudly grabbed my fully charged jump started and walked on over. Connected it up, turned the knob, green light came on, gave in about 4 seconds to charge up, and.... nothing. Actually the motor turned over really slow for about 3 seconds, then nothing. Slightly embarrassed, I walked back home, grabbed the second unit, and jumper cables(just in case). Same scenario as the first. We ended up using the jumper cables, that once connected to a spare battery I have, fired the motor right up. A couple of weeks later, my daughter had her girlfriend spent the night. The next morning, her car battery was dead (left the trunk ajar and trunk light burned all night). Again, a small compact car (4 cylinder engine), and again both units failed to start the car. The car fired right up once connected to the RV battery and cables. I'll be tossing these in the trash, and recommend you save your money, or buy a unit with more amps. This unit might be good for a motorcycle or lawn mower type battery, but forget starting anything larger.

I suggest anyone owning or considering buying this product read the post by Robert on 11/28/2010, esp. this part:

I can confirm that to be true. The indicator may show the unit at full strength when it is actually 50% discharged. It appears that you only get a true indication when it is charging that is not made clear in the manual.

I tested the amperage on the AC charger and got a reading of about 150 ma. At that rate it would take about 27 hours to re-charge the unit's 8 ah battery if it were 50% discharged. So if you use this as a 12 volt power source, you may need to charge it a while to get it fully recharged.

This is a great little charger, it's light, energy efficient, inexpensive and does the job of a much larger at a reasonable price. I have used this unit to charge a large automotive truck battery and it completely charged it within 5 hours. I also used this unit to charge one of my little sealed lead acid battery packs for a 2 amp trickle charge. I haven't yet had the opportunity to use the 8 amp engine start feature, but I am sure it won't dissapoint thanks to it having the build quality and reliability of the stanley name.

IT WILL NOT CHARGE A COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY!...THE BATTERY CAN NOT BE DOWN BELOW 2 VOLTS! At 2 volts and above the charger charges the battery just fine and then kicks into auto float mode once the battery is at full charge. It's light weight and has a nice easy to read digital screen. I tested the Stanley BC6809 with my sealed agm Optima and Odyssey batteries and they did well.

During absorb, the voltage will eventually reach 14.55 volts, and then will float at 13.55 volts as measured on a Fluke 87V multimeter. 14.55 volts is ok for pure-lead types like the optima or odyssey, although they prefer a little higher at 14.7v in cyclic use, but still this is very usable. 14.5 volts may be just a tad higher than what lead-calcium agm's prefer such as East-Penn/Deka agm batteries which want to see no more than 14.40 volts, but still this middle of the road absorb voltage is very usable to me.

Critically, the 13.55 float voltage is great and meets Odyssey's float specification of using between 13.5 and 13.8 volts. Part of the reason is due to the "walking down" of capacity if using a float voltage lower than 13.5 volts, some of it due to grid-corrosion using less than 13.5 volts long term.

Note that this charger is not on Odyssey's officially approved list, but the specs and operation make it nice for PC680's and lower model capacity. For larger Odyssey capacities, this makes a good maintainer since it has enough oomph behind it with 6amps charge, and critically the 13.55 volt float. Still, deep discharge of an Odyssey wants 0.4C current recharge, so the difference between charger and maintainer should be kept in mind depending on the battery model.

My Optimas have a little less stringent charging specs, and the BC6809 did a fine job on my yellow-top Optima D51's.

My unit came with a removable drop-in cradle to hold the charger upright, although I feel that the charger ran cooler when it was laid down on a flat-surface since there are no vents on the top or bottom. This unit runs a bit hot (but silent) since it has no fan, but uses plenty of cooling slots all around it. Therefore I would be careful not to lay it down on a floormat or car seat if using it inside a vehicle and in this case, the cradle would then become useful. Once it starts to maintain with a float voltage, it cools down.

It put out a little bit of broadband rf-hash over the 2-30 mhz radio spectrum during charge, and I wish it was as quiet rf-wise as it's bigger 15 amp brother. But once it goes into float-mode, it is quieter across the spectrum, although not as quiet as the smaller Stanley BC209.

All the indications are on an LCD display and spelled out as to what mode you are in. There are no buttons to push, nor any led's. This really makes it a great gift for someone who is not into battery care, and might get settings or readings wrong with more complicated units.

Like any new charger, common sense should prevail if it never drops to float mode, then you have very large parasitic drains or other issues that should be looked at. However, since this is beefier at 6amps charge, you may get away with larger parasitic drains as compared to smaller tenders.

Overall I think this is a good value charger especially for it's price range and specifications.

The clip for putting the mount on the air vents broke after falling from the vent constantly. If you have small vents / weird designed vents I wouldn't recommend using the air vent mount. My phone also has decent weight to it, so that might have also been a factor. One of the clips for attaching it to a different mount also broke off, but there were still three left on it making it still usable. The suction cup mount seems a little more sturdy, I'll probably give an update if it breaks soon or not. Otherwise, a somewhat decent phone mount.

First thing you should know that other reviews are crazy. The one with one star must of been defective because it still works great and charging is a piece of cake. The other one has an otterbox on it so of course it wouldn't stay on but he is extremely right in how powerful it is. I have a 4th generation iPod touch and the battery had almost two full charges and at least what I noticed, it does charge a little bit faster than the normal charging USB. I highly recommend buying this, it's a little pricy but with quality there's going to be a little extra spent. It's worth it though!

Lots of things to like about this driver, but sadly it's going to have to go back...

Nice:clutch, swivel handle, sleeved bit holder, reasonably compact, lightbut not empty-feelingweight, independent LED light switch.

Not so nice:(unsurprising, really) NOT variable speed as mentioned in a previous review; reversing switch awkward to access; awful font for clutch setting numeralsas often found in Chinese instruction manuals; barely visible clutch setting marker arrow moulding; nasty cheap clear plastic over charge level LEDs; plug-in, rather than cradle, charger (though at least that avoids the problem of poor contacts); not terribly torque-y; "Kawasaki" branding sticker, while nice, is going to fall off in short orderand it is just a licensed use of the name, not like Hitachi or Panasonic...

The unacceptable:basically, you can't use it more than once or twice in a given direction before it will cease to respond to the triggerthe LED, if on, extinguishes, as if the battery was flat, but the charge indicators show good charge. And if you try to go the reverse directionit's fineone time...! Inspection shows the drill has an open metal leaf contact behind the trigger, not a microswitch. I'm guessing the odd behavior is due to some electrolytic action as the contacts arcat least that might be some sort of explanation! I wonder if this is the case for the whole slew of drivers that are getting bad reviews for their triggers...??

So, it's going back, and I'm going to get my Bosch IXO II sent over from the UKit'll be interesting to see how its battery is after 3 years rest...!

I purchased this item to replace a worn out Ryobi of about the same demensions and features. Unlike the Ryobi, this tool does not 'lock' once you've reached the twisting limit you've selected. It wasn't described as a feature, so I tried to adapt. Then the on button switch began to get intermittent. Without the lock feature, it made the tool unusable. Unfortunately, I didn't bother to look into returning it until after the return window expired. I couldn't find a Kawasaki tool website to seek manufacturer support. Bottom line, I would not recommend this tool.
