I've put about 200 watts of load on this and it runs cool, quiet and works great. Those complaining of overheating, buzzing, and blowing fuses must be overloading it and should have bought a larger model with a higher wattage rating.

It's not ultra well made, but what do you want at this price? I verified it's properly grounded and fused. And it claims to be CE rated (the European rating agency).

It's also worth noting it gives you the ability to fine tune the voltage a bit with the selector on the back (each mode has 2 different voltages--i.e. 220v or 240v). That could be useful if you have unusually high or low line voltage.

One note: It does NOT have a detachable power cord like shown in the picture. It comes with a regular 120 USA AC cord hard wired in for the input power for step up use. And an adapter to plug is supplied to convert that into a euro plug for step down use.

This converter does the job well. Since it's a single outlet, I chose to attach a multiple-outlet extension cord, to accommodate all of my electrical needs, including a netbook. I didn't have any issues with it blowing fuses. The main reason I bought this was I've lost too many appliances to using just an electrical adapter while traveling overseas and on cruise ships, but when I bought this, I neglected to take into account the weight limits for baggage that is allowed on overseas flights. It added 7 lbs to my luggage and took up too much precious cargo space. I'm now looking for a lighter and leaner one. Anyone interested in buying mine knowing all the limitations?

I use this product to step-down 220 VAC to 120 VAC to power a Toshiba 55L417U and a Panasonic DVR. The total load is approximately 200 watts and the VC300W handles it with ease. The transformer runs moderately warm and I now sit it on one of those USB powered laptop cooler thingys. The transformer makes absolutely no vibrational noise at all. The Power Bright company holds an ISO 9001/14001 certification. ISO certifications do not guarantee quality products, only quality processes in the manufacture of a product.

I also use a number of other Power Bright stepdown transformers (110w and 200w) and all are equally well crafted.

Purchased Garmin nüvi 260W GPS, this product was listed under 'Frequently Bought Together' items. It was inexpensive, in fact, shipping was more than the item itself. I purchased the AC wall charger and when I received my GPS I attempted to use it to initially charge the GPS. Not only would the Garmin NOT charge, it functioned like it kept getting reset, like it was caught in a loop. Once I placed the Garmin inside my vehicle with the car charger it worked exactly like it should have, so I know the problem was the AC charger. The AC charger price was not worth going thru the expense or hassle or returning it, so I threw it in the trash. Hopefully this review will save others a couple of bucks.

This charger did not work on the Garmin NUV 255. It was a total waste of money. The box it came in didn't even say it was for a GPS. It only said cell phone and MP3 player on the box. It was a complete false advertisement. Don't purchade this for a GPs system.

I bought one of these at discounted price off Amazon about a year ago and it worked until the plug-in pins to the Garmin broke. So I checked back at Amazon and despite the bad reviews I ordered two more for my Garmin 255W with free shipping that ran a little under five bucks total. I mean, at that price, no big loss. And I also ordered another one for around $15 just to be sure I received one that worked. I should have saved the extra 15 bucks because when I received my order both of the ones I ordered for $2.47 each work just fine with my Garmin 255W. And the $15 one I ordered also worked just fine. So...at this $2.47 with free shipping you might want try one of these, or not, but the ones I received do charge my Garmin 255W GPS just fine.

This review is in response to some comments regarding wire and fuse size selections for this inverter and others like it.

In response to other review quoting a table from the National Electric Code (NEC). While the table that was posted is correct for 115VAC (household voltage) is does not translate directly to 12VDC (automotive voltage). When dealing with a 12 volt system there is less concern with wires overheating, at least in the way that the NEC considers it, and far more concern with voltage drop. When running wiring a reasonable distance (a couple hundred feet or so) there is little concern with voltage drop with AC power. But when dealing with DC, simply increasing your wiring distance 5-10' can have a drastic effect on voltage drop. That is why this inverter should be wired with, at the very least, #4 wire and really should be installed with #2 or thicker, especially if you need to run wire 15 or 20 feet or more.

The purpose of a fuse in a DC system is to protect the rest of your electrical system in the event of a short. That is why you always want to install your fuse as close to the battery as possible (no more then 3' if you can help it). As far as the amperage goes, there is a really good quick reference chart for automotive wire size that can be found at Tessco's web site here:[Turns out I can't link to an outside page so I'll paste the contents of the table at the bottom]. But to boil it down, you can safely fuse a 12VDC circuit at 150, or 200 amps, or more on #4, #2 or #0 wire.

Now this unit at full load is something like 85% efficient. So if you do the math -1500 Watts / 12 Volts / .85 efficiency = ~147 amps, A 150 AMP FUSE IS REQUIRED. If you take peak power into account you would need to double that to a 300 amp fuse, but because the inverter cannot run at peak power for more then a moment, a slow-blow 150amp fuse may work just fine, or perhaps you could step up a 200amp. I wouldn't go all the way to a 300 amp fuse unless you really found that you needed it and had the inverted is wired in such a way that it could handle that level current (read: installed using very heavy gauge wire). Now if your vehicle is running while your inverter is working the amperage will be a little lower because your dealing with 14.4 VDC rather then 12 volts (watts = volts x amps -oramps = watts / volts). But at the very least, a 150 amp ANL fuse is very good idea and not at all over sized.

Just a FYI on fuses, most car stereos are installed with AGU style fuses, but they only go up to 100 amps.

You will need an ANL style fuse to get one rated at 150 amps or more. See these links for examples:

This is a great product. The cable seems very well made. The end caps fit snugly, the connections to the charger and other cables are snug and secure, and the cord itself seems durable (this is just my impression I've only had it for a short while) and the length is terrific. I'm using it to get to a vehicle on the far side of the garage where there isn't an outlet. I would certainly also use it to charge / maintain a battery in a vehicle outside of the garage. It's long enough to do that and still keep the charger itself dry inside.

Another great feature is that it works with Battery Tender brand charges as well. At least I think it does. I use it between my Schumacher charger / maintainer (bought from Tractor Supply Co.) and the Battery Tender 081-0069-6 Ring Terminal Harness with Black Fused 2-Pin Quick Disconnect Plug attached to my battery. Different company, but the plugs are the same. So, since it works with the other company's plugs, it seems it should oughta work with the other chargers. Nifty.

No complaints so far, and if it holds up like I expect it to it's earned a 5-star rating.

I got it for my 5" Garmin nuvi 50LM GPS. It's over sized by half an inch in each direction. The sides are stiff, so it offers good protection from bending or puncturing. I would prefer something that's a better fit so it takes up less space in my car's center arm rest console. I'm not sure why it comes with the carabiner clip.

As other reviews have stated, the cables are surprisingly thin. That hasn't caused any problems, though, and they charge my HTC EVO 4G as advertised.

The retracting mechanism has worked well so far, and is convenient for storage when not in use.

Car charger has a "blue" light that lights up to indicate that it is properly inserted in to lighter for proper use which is great. Cords are thin & some complain about being to small but I've had no problems with length as an issue. I use the wall charger as my back up at work. Easy to store in my desk when I leave & keeps my phone charged for daily use while at work. Some have complained about the cords getting tangled or not made of quality construction but I think as with all "retractable" products the best thing is to take care of how you use it. This is a great battery the second one I've had. The preparation for use involves putting the acid into the battery which comes with a sealed separate plastic container. The instructions are not as clear as they could be but make sure to read them complete before proceeding with putting the acid in the battery. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area and just in case of any spillage I recommend wearing light surgical gloves. Once the battery is filled and sealed allow it should not need charging before installing. In this case a BMW K1200S. The stock Exide Battery lasted about 8 months and needed additional charging which the Yuasa never seems to need if you ride you bike regular basis.

Once the battery is installed it seems to be completely trouble free.

I've been using this 85W Macbook charger daily on my boat for the past 9 months and it's performed great. It charges the laptop and cellphone while it's running without any problems. I don't know why other people have problems with it. The blue LED light on it is super bright so we put tape over it because it lights up the interior of our boat at night and we don't like it. First thing I liked was the price, this being $70 cheaper on Amazon.com than it was at local stores, if you can find a local store that carries it. I found it for about $199 at Tractor Supply Co., same exact thing. I read the reviews first so wasn't upset that the carrying case did not include storage space for tubes of grease, but it would've been nice if you did get what was pictured, especially for the price.

Even though it's 12V, it has more than enough power to squeeze out the grease, even if you had the gun sitting in a cold garage mid-winter. I found that filling my truck's joints with green grease was exceedingly easier than the last time I had done so with a hand trigger style gun.

When you pick this up and have it in your hand, you know it means business. It doesn't feel "plastic-ey", like it's going to break at any moment. With it resting on my chest, I had ample hose available to reach whatever I needed to reach under my 4x4 truck, which I was thankful for ,given its weight.

No problems whatsoever priming it. They gave all sorts of instructions as to how to prime it if necessary, but I just put the tube in, pushed in the handle in the bottom, and pulled the trigger and a few seconds later grease was kicking out and has kicked out every trigger pull since then.

You can hear the pump cycling through, so there is an audible noise every time it kicks in some grease. This is good since it will enable you to gauge how much grease is going in if you can't see the fitting and are just adding some by feel. Each pump noise equals one full squeeze of a standard grease gun, in my estimation. Each pump is less than a second, so it doesn't take very long either.

Bottom line is, this is an impressive tool. It does what it's supposed to, and it does it well.

I've had this for over 5 years and it has worked perfectly each time. Originally bought it to lubricate my steer skid loader, daily. Sold that and use it on my cars and trucks. Very handy I love it.
