Buy Motorola TalkAbout T5820 AA 5-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way
I originally got another 2-way radio (Audiovox GMRS1100 2CH), then traded up. ....
The T5820 seems sturdy. A little bigger and heftier than the Audiovox, it's shaped to fit the hand, and has rubber grips and cushioning. I'd try to avoid dropping either unit (if you need milspec durability, get a Yaesu), but this unit is more likely to survive impact. It's also splashproof, though not submersible.
Audio quality is where the Motorola shines. It has a real volume knob rather than a button, which together with the better-quality speaker lets you hear more clearly at both loud and quiet settings. The roger beep is clear but not louder than the conversation, and the inevitable end-of-transmission click is muted. I also like the Moto call tones much better than the Audiovox bleeps, and there are more of them.
Operation is logical, the buttons are well-placed and the belt clip locks firmly and detaches easily.
The LCD is smaller than on the Audiovox but easy to read. Both units use a mode button to step you through the functions, both have 22 x 38 channels, and both LCDs have clear indicators of what's going on. The Moto LCD is better illuminated.
All radios are FCC-limited to .5 watt in the FRS range. The Audiovox has more output power in the GMRS range than the Moto (1.8 watts vs. 1w) and has an SMA-standard antenna you can switch out for more range. Its hands-off VOX function works with the built-in mic and speaker, while the Moto's works only with a mic plugged in. You can also monitor two channels simultaneously on the Audiovox. On the other hand, the T5820 can exclude noisy channels from the scan sequence, and has a silent vibration mode for discreet paging. Neither radio has a real squelch control, but both can stay on and scan while charging.
The big plusses of the Motorola are the quality of its mechanical design and its audio. After all, you use a radio to talk and listen. The big defect of the Audiovox is its difficulty picking up transmissions from non-Audiovox radios! Something about the frequency deviation made the reception unintelligibly choppy on most of the traffic I heard.
I've done no range testing yet. We expect to use this radio mostly around the neighborhood, and while shopping and running errands. For all that the 2-mile FRS range will do fine. When we next go on a climbing or boating trip I'll get the FCC license ... that's needed to use the 5-mile range GMRS channels.
Thay have been satisfactory for all the uses I have, with one modification and one upgrade. The upgrade was to install the rechargeable battery packs, which allowed me to do the modification, which was sealing the hole in the battery compartment cover.
The Motorolas have worked for me during beach and boating use, and during hiking. They have been used in the rain and occasionally splashed with no harm done. The speakers are made from polymer and sealed around their periphery (according to the factory guy I talked to) and the battery compartment cover has a rubber gasket, which is hard to see since it is black on black. This leaves the hole in the battery compartment cover. The hole allows the cover's latch to be opened, but also is an entry point for water. I solved this by going to the nicad rechargeable batteries (so the batteries do not have to be changed frequently) and also attaching a piece of black vinyl electrician's tape over the latch hole and past the bottom edge of the cover a bit. This closes the hole and keeps the battery compartment cover from falling off if the unit is dropped.
With these changes, the radios are great for my purposes. I have obtained about 3 miles over the water they may go further, but I haven't had a way to test them over 3 miles.
I like them so much that I am buying another pair with the nicad battery option.
I haven't pushed their distance ratings to their limits -they work terrificly for kids going into the woods or down the road, talking to home base.
With Motorola's "Interference Eliminator Codes", I haven't had any problems finding an unused channel & code combination.
Some notes:
Motorola's Interference Eliminator Codes aren't compatible with all other makes of FRS/GMRS radios, so you'll have to check that if you want to use multiple brands of radios together.
Uses 3 AA batteries each, 6 total. They will last all day monitoring, with moderate talking, but you'll want a big stock of batteries or a set of rechargeable AAs.
There is a built-in NiCd rechargeable battery unit that replaces the standard 3 AAs of this model radio, available as an extra purchase. However, also look in to the other T5820 units that come with the NiCd built in. (search for T5820 to see the various options and colors.) ...
FRS is a low-power (1/2 watt, "2 miles") mode, free like the old Citizen's Band, while GMRS is higher power (1 watt, "5 miles") and requires an FCC license. This unit does both FRS and GMRS (though only a portion of the channels of each). A GMRS license is (relatively) easy to get ..., but you'll pay ... for one license to cover the whole family for 2 years, any number of radios. ("Relatively easy" means online government forms that are far easier than, say, filing your taxes. You have to get an "FRN" number, and then apply for the license.)
Another annoyance with the radios is the talk button which is sunk in to the side and annoying to press, especially when you're wearing gloves! It takes a pretty hard push to activate, which I found very aggravating. We also had issues with accidentally messing with the volume all the time because of poor placement of the volume control.
These might work better for people who are not so rough on their radios, but for us they just weren't acceptable. There are much better choices out there, especially for the price!

I have used ICOM IC-4008A FRS-type radios for the past several years and wanted an output power upgrade for distance. My fiance and I play a lot of airsoft (kinda like paintball) and we use radios like this a lot. I have to say, I am not very fond of our Motorola radios! We constantly had issues with sound quality, even within short distances. Half the radios we bought ended up broken after only a few uses!Another annoyance with the radios is the talk button which is sunk in to the side and annoying to press, especially when you're wearing gloves! This charger works OK for the Viewpad 7, but not nearly as fast as the original. The original charger has a 10 pin mini USB connector. I have not been able to find a proper replacement for the original charger.

I think I paid about four or five dollars for this charger, but I, too, thought how could I go wrong. Well, if a thing doesn't work, it's wrong. First off, though seemingly advertised as a Samsung product, it is not a Samsung product. It came bubble wrapped in an envelope with no manufacturer identification. The mini USB plug on mine did not fit securely into my phone and would continuously lose contact. It did not fit/connect at all into a friends micro-USB phone.Today I called Amazon, who directly connected me by phone with the seller, Newyorkcellphone. I was offered the choice of a new charger or refund. I couldn't trust that the manufacture of another one of these chargers would be any better than the first one, so I'm taking the refund. Good customer service by both Amazon and Newyork. As I've read, and discovered with a couple of these accessory purchases, there seem to be a lot of poorly made knockoff products and some "kitchen table" sellers(not Newyorkcellphone). Beware.

Briggs & Stratton B4177GS Battery Charger Review
Exact replacement for the floating charger (B4177GS) provided with B&S #1934 8000 watt generator. While preparing the generators for hurricane season, I could not find the original charger for the electric start generator battery. Hurricane season is not the time to be without, so a quick lookup of the charger part number and Amazon has them. Now that I have the replacement the original should show up any day.

If you look carefully, this charger fits nearly every Briggs and Stratton and Generac portable generator out there. A bit pricy for what it is, but when it comes to charging my generator's battery, a little piece of mind doesn't hurt. Warning: Although these battery chargers have only a 1.5 ampere output and will not begin charging unless they are connected correctly, you are connecting them to a battery which can provide up to 900 amps of current! Shorting the terminals of an automotive battery can cause a conductor as heavy as a screwdriver to explode! Furthermore, overcharging a battery with a fault not detected by a charger can cause the battery to explode! Sulphuric acid will burn your skin instantly and will blind you if you get it in your eyes! If you don't intend to read the several pages of safety instructions at the beginning of the manuals which come with all of these chargers then also buy the cigar lighter attachment listed on Amazon. All three chargers now use the same quick disconnect; I'm not sure about cigar lighter wiring.Choosing a battery charger is a matter of personal preference and intended use. A 45 AH battery that has been run dead will take over 30 hours with a 1.5 amp charger at best and more likely twice that to fully charge that battery... if it can be charged at all; for that you will need a big charger. Note: Charging lead acid batteries at high charge rates (over 1.5 amp) is not recommended. This review only addresses small chargers designed to keep a battery from becoming discharged while it is in long term (10 days or more) storage. At least one manual says that a large capacity battery may have its life reduced by charging with the low current these chargers supply; that pertains to all small chargers [Storage Battery Maintenance & Principles, US DOT 1998 pp 3 & 10].
Schumacher 1.5 amp battery `maintainers' will restore a discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) at a relatively high rate (almost as fast as a 5 amp unregulated charger because the charge rate of all high current chargers fall off quickly as the battery voltage rises), hence the name "SpeedCharger". After charging the battery to approximately 14.8 volts the Schumacher turns off and monitors the voltage. (A fully charged battery will measure 12.6 volts after an hour of `rest'; a fully discharged battery (not a completely dead battery) will read 11.4 volts.) Once the Schumacher detects that the battery voltage has fallen below 12.6 volts it reverts to maintenance mode until the battery is fully charged. Note: 12.2 volts is about 50% discharged and 11.4 volts is just about dead (there isn't much difference in the voltage reading between a fully charged and fully discharged battery). Since all lead acid batteries `self-discharge' over time, periodic low current maintenance charging has been an accepted way to maintain storage batteries in optimum condition for 100 years [Witte pp 66 & 287, Filiquarian 2012]. The Schumacher automatically detects whether it is connected to a 6 or 12 volt battery. Our Schumacher restored a battery that only measured 12.2 volts after two days charging with a 10 amp charger to 12.7 volts.
Deltran 1.5 amp (not the .75 amp Jr which we just bought) battery `tenders' will restore discharged batteries in the same length of time as the Schumacher and faster than all trickle chargers (we have all types of chargers in use, some for over 40 years). Deltran (including the Jr) uses Yuasa's philosophy for maintaining the battery after it is fully charged, lowering the charging rate to 10 milliamps (almost nothing). At that low rate the battery will not lose electrolyte [Witte pp 151, Filiquarian 2012]. Deltran lists 3 modes: bulk (charging), absorbtion (probably refers to desulphation) and float (green LED solid). The red LED flashes briefly while it is testing the battery. The Deltran Jr is nice for maintaining batteries in vehicles which are used once a week it is a large power `cube' with a very long DC cord. I used cable ties for both sides of the quick disconnect in case I forget to unplug it... it just pops off as I back out of the garage. I really like the red flashing light when the Deltran Jr. is plugged in but not connected to the car.
The Yuasa 1.5 amp SmartShot has a metal case. A switch selects 6 or 12 volt and, like the other chargers, it will not work if connected backwards or set to the wrong voltage. Note: None of these chargers will work with rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries; I'm not sure about any other rechargeable batteries. Yuasa (mine says Interstate Batteries) has 5 stage charging technology: testing flashing yellow LED (I like that), charging solid yellow, desulphation stage (I'm guessing), completed/float mode green LED. I guess the 5th stage is if the battery fails the testing stage flashing red. That's where Yuasa gets the name SmartShot. I've used two of these for 8 10 years.
Sulphation is an issue that might come up when buying a small charger. The Deltran, Schumacher and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers will keep sulphation to a minimum. `Soft' sulphation always occurs normally in automotive batteries. A low current charge rate is known to control normal sulphation [Witte pp 49 & 53, Filiquarian 2012]. Hard sulphation cannot be corrected without extreme measures; trade in the battery.
Wattage of the The Schumacher, Deltran and Yuasa 1.5 amp chargers is less than 20 watts when charging and 3 5 watts connected but not charging. (Don't be confused by the 10 milliamp output of the Deltran device; that is on the DC side not the input.) Connecting a timer with a 6 watt clock motor to turn the charger off and on doesn't make sense; it uses more electricity than an idling chargers.
Trickle Chargers like our 1 amp Goodyear draw 12.5 watts continuously while connected to an old battery; so we usually use that one on a night-light timer. It had been charging a used backhoe battery (to keep it from dying in case the new one fails) for two months and though it wasn't apparently boiling off the electrolyte when the top of the battery was damp I disconnected it. FYI only water evaporates from batteries; sulphuric acid in a fully charged battery is almost all bound to the plates; plus the boiling point is above 600 F. The specific gravity (the only way to know for sure) of that 8 year old battery measures 12.5; so even though the voltage measures 12.6 volts it isn't taking a full charge. (A fully charged lead acid has a specific gravity 12.65 when fully charged.) Don't use trickle chargers on good batteries without daily monitoring.

Buy Premium Rapid Car Charger (with IC CHIP) for Samsung SPH-Z400
This product works and it matches the description given. It won't drain your car battery if you don't leave it plugged in when you aren't driving. That is just common sense though, because any auto accessory should be unplugged when you aren't driving. Not doing so can cause a fire (hey, its actually happened).
It charges my phone fast, doesn't hurt my car, and it was cheap.

I purchased this charger last summer and it worked fine for about 6 months and now it either won't connect at all to charge of I have to fidget with it to find a spot in the power port where the red light might come on. Garmin Nuvi 1100 GPS Navigation System 3.5-inch Touchscreen Review
I purchased this reasonably priced unit today after having many difficulties with a more expensive Tom Tom which was out of warranty by 9 months and started malfunctioning. I paid 3 times the cost of this unit when I purchased that one. I can not recommend Tom Tom.
I can recommend this Nuvi 1100. It works very well. The interface is better.
It does not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive units. You can not make a bluetooth call on it with your cell phone. You can not check weather or get live traffic updates.
It is small which I think is good. It is easy to operate also. I would recommend this purchase if you need a simple easy to operate GPS unit.
As for maps they are not complete. Functional for 2 years business location or middle school (built in 1958) could not be found with both C320 and nuvi 1100 but anyway data base and reception of nuvi is better than c320. The voice on nuvi 1100 loud and clear like on c320 not robotic like on nuvi 255. I set it at 40% to not shout suddenly through music on radio. Nuvi 1100 does not have lane assistance or text to speech but it tells and shows arrows where to turn. You can choose on main screen time or distance remaining to destination or hit speed icon to see all at the time it records your trip's time distance how much left or you've passed and so on).
Instruction (Garmin web site) says that a speed limit icon should appear on screen at the major roadways. But I never saw it neither when I was driving at 101 -highway nor at El Camino Real(CA). How much major they must be?! Well some people's reviews says such an icon signs are not accurate (+5-10 mph) so, better watch for sings on the roads than trust navigators' one. Well anyway I tried couple more locations and nuvi 1100 took me exactly from A to B. Screen of 1100 is much clear than TomTom or Magelan have. Top screen (when you on trip) shows arrow icon where to turn with mileage left to that turn and, next street Name to turn at (there is no current street, well less confusions). You can hit arrow icon to make it repeat where you gotta turn if you missed verbal direction at first time. You can hit street Name bar and see list of turns with streets Names and mileage to that.
There is bunch of text menu and speak languages (if you prefer your native one), there is a micro SD slot for JPEG viewing. There is not MP3player or audio plug but who needs it in the car? Everyone has a stereo. As for accessories I got bracket, suction cup with base (self adhesive on one side) and car charger. Manual says you can plug 1100 to PC USB for charge (means standard 500mA USB power). So I used for first charging Motorola RAZR cell phone wall adapter (for 4 hours) and regular mini USB to USB cable (not included) for maps update (took me about 45 minutes). So you don't need special accessories for that. In fact mini USB to USB cable connected to PC will charge your GPS. Just make sure you plugged to power supplied USB (not all PC USB supplied with power, some of them are just for data transfer). Connect GPS to computer. GPS will show picture of connection then press GPS power button to turn it off and look at the screen. The note like: "Now battery is charging" will appear for couple seconds. Then wait four hours (if it's a first charging) and unplug.
I picked this model because others had problems with shout down and rebooting a lot like: nuvi 1300-1350, 1390, 1450, some models 285 and 205. With 265 and 1300 people had problems like getting lost.
I have my StreetPilot c320 for 5 years now and it never let me down except temporary loosing satellite reception.
I hope very much that 1100 won't let me down too.
PS I would not advise to buy refurbished. Your Amazon warranty won't be granted on it and you have a big risk to loose whole thing by saving couple bucks .
Six month later:
The GPS still works great. I recently went to Yosemity National Park, CA. The GPS never lost reception in the woods or in the bottom of the canyon. I never was there before. So I entered Yosemity Gift Shop address and navigator had no problems to find it even inside of the park and bring me there.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't buy the Garmin 1100 and think twice about buying any Garmin. Don't buy from Wal-Mart; in-store warrantee is too short.

I read that the smaller units are a little easier to carry around, and we'll be in Seattle soon, on foot for part of the time, and I also want to stick this thing on my bike at some point, which I can do with pedestrian and bicycle mode.
I hooked it up this morning. It came with a window mount and a dash mount. On the way back from dropping my daughter off at Space Camp it told me to head north which is counterintuitive, so I ignored it. Later in the day after picking up my daughter at the same location, we decided to follow the GPS and it took me home on an alternate route, which saved me a mile, a bunch of red lights, and about three minutes. It would have been faster but the GPS didn't know about the construction.
It also has a feature called Ecoroute, where you input your city and highway MPG and gas prices, and it measures how efficiently you drive and grades you for the day. Not as cool as a full-on aftermarket mileage computer, but still pretty cool, as I tend to spend a lot of time on long trips mentally calculating my MPG over and over. It lets you input gallons, distance driven and cost of gas at each fill up. I love this.
I can recommend this Nuvi 1100. It works very well. The interface is better.

I have Street Pilot320, nuvi 205 and now I got nuvi 1100. It has a hot-fix feature what helps to find satellites faster predicting their position. I took on a road test C320 (maps 2008) and nuvi 1100 (maps 2010). Both lead to destination with the same routes. C320 tells 2 seconds (or so) where to turn earlier than 1100 but both were mistaken about side of arrival (they said right and it was on left). Not big deal. While I typed second destination remaining in my car on parking lot close to the big tree C320 lost satellite reception for several times and 1100 hadn't a once.As for maps they are not complete. This cannot get any easier. Right out of the package it worked like a dream. Once satellite acquisition was made it was able to place me and give me directions to the place I wanted to go. I think this is a great product for the price. Nice entry GPS system. The only problem is the updates for it take a long time. Otherwise it is great. I bought this Nuvi at Wal-Mart (WM) to replace one that failed after ~1.3 years of use. After only 3 weeks, the 1100's touch screen began failing intermittently, which was the same problem I had with the old Nuvi. I tried to return it to WM on day 33, but was told they only warranted my Garmins for 30 days, and that they had recently reduced their in-store warrantee to 15 days on Garmins. Garmin's quality must be falling off significantly for WM to cut their in-store warrantee in half. Too bad, I've had a Nuvi 265T for over 2 years with no trouble and love it.BOTTOM LINE: Don't buy the Garmin 1100 and think twice about buying any Garmin. Don't buy from Wal-Mart; in-store warrantee is too short.

It does its job, but its a pain getting the phone in and out of the dock. It fits to tight and the dock itself is not heavy enough in helping with the removal. I feel like screwing it to my desk so i can just yank my phone out.

Since we dry camp a lot, I wanted to save on power usage by replacing all regular lights with LEDs. Much to my surprise the cost was higher than buying panel and a controller kit from Go Power. The kit cam complete with all the wiring, mounting brackets and connectors to make the installation a breeze. The biggest decision was where to place the panels and here again, using the box as a placement jig helped the laying of the panels on the roof. It took a better part of and afternoon to complete the install.
Having used the solar system for one camping season, I found few more pleasant surprises. One now we can run the fridge on batteries (through an inverter) while travelling on those hot summer days. At the end of days travel, my 4 x 6 Volt batteries were fully charged. We can run our microwave, LED TV, PS2 and small surround sound system and not have to worry about not having enough power. As a matter of fact, I have not run my Honda 2000 generator to charge my batteries for the whole season (except for generator maintenance).
Go power had everything we needed to take our lifestyle with us when RVing. They are always available when I have a question or need their expertise in solving a problem.
Talk about getting more for less more flexibility than installing LED lights) and it is expandable as our needs grow....

Our newly installed, 80 watt solar panel by Go Power performed flawlessly on our first trip out. We dry camped for two days, and the solar panel kept our single battery charged up to 100% both days, even though we used our radio and lights extensively. This panel is very efficient--its effective blue crystal design unmatched. I power my 'Coby' CD player, desktop computer & screen, HP printer, 'Magnavox' DVD player, and 'Emerson' TV screen through this panel; mounted on top of my travel trailer. With all of these items running at the same time through an 800 watt 'Cobra' inverter and a 'Kill A Watt' meter, my two 12 volt batteries remain at 100% during the daytime. In the first week of using this accessory charger on my cell phone it suddenly stopped working which was discovered by chance when I noticed that the light wasn't lighted. On inspection I found that the end going into the dashboard port had a button that was supposed to make contact but had somehow become stuck inside the housing. Using a small screwdriver on the case allowed the contact to pop out, which made it work again. You get what you pay for; maybe I just got a defective unit. It is still working although I only use this kind of thing rarely; I'm not sure it would hold up under daily use.
