The battery will barely start the car and this thing says it has a 100% charge. I hooked up a NOCO charger to the battery and it said the charge level was 25% while this thing was still a happy 100%. According to this either the battery is dead or it's 100%. Pretty worthless.

I just ordered 4 more You can easily connect your charger (just plug it in) to maintain your batteries and to see their respective charge levels. Great for boats cycles, small engines and seldom used vehicles and equipment.

Got this for my NOCO Genius G3500 6V/12V 3.5A Automatic Multi-Purpose Battery Charger and Maintainer (Grey) I purchased several months ago. I have been swapping the charger around to several different vehicles, so I thought I would give this accessory a try. So far, I really like it. You can quickly tell if your battery needs charged. Exactly as advertised! It really is an OEM Samsung car charger, quite impressive for the price. It does work, the only drawback I notice is that it doesn't charge properly when it is hooked into the combination adaptor, which allows you to charge and listen to the headphones at the same time, but I don't know if it is a problem with the charger, or with the adaptor/phone itself. Judging from the quality of the charger, I would say that you are getting EXACTLY what you think you are ordering! I am very happy to say that I got the Samsung Car Charger for 1/4 what Verizon charges. I don't know how they do it, but they do!

This is a great device! It small enough to sit in your lighter socket and not be in the way if your lighter socket is in a bad spot. The cost is fair considering others of this type I have compared it to. The only thing I don't like about it is the LED that shows it has power is a little bright if you have it facing you when it is dark. I just turn the light towards the bottom or away from me and that helps alot.

I have tried this unit on all types of small batteries so far so good. It does a lot of tests and diagnosing. This is by no means a speed charger, but it is a great slow good charger. Seems like pretty good quality.

*Update I have had this for a few months and now I can understand what it is telling me but was confusing at first. I like it a lot it does a great job.

The OptiMate 6 is fantastic. I have had it for a week and used it on 6 AGM batteries ranging from 5 AH to 79 AH in capacity and 6 months to 3 years in age. Two of the batteries were completely dead (wouldn't even light a little light bulb). One of those wouldn't even take a charge from the charger that came with it. The others were in various states of discharge. 5 of the 6 batteries now hold a charge and work as well as new. The 6th had been dead for several months. It now holds a sufficient charge, but is not "like new." I did have to run that one through several cycles of charging to get it to hold the charge.

The lights are a little confusing at first, but if you watch what it is doing and read the book, you can understand it. I keep the book next to the charger and review it as necessary. I am very comfortable with it, now, and rarely refer to the manual. As someone else stated, this is not a speed charger with maximum output of 5 amps,

I have seen different places state that this charger is good for different size batteries. The manual states that it is good for batteries ranging in capacity of 3AH to 240AH.

This charger never says it is finished because it goes into a "voltage retention test" mode once it is "finished" charging the first time and then into a maintenance mode where it sends current to the battery occasionally as it detects the need. You could consider the battery charge "finished" at either of these points.

The easiest directions I can give for this thing is to just plug it in and leave it alone until all of the lights stop flashing.

The desulfation mode alone is wonderful! Already, I restored 2 batteries that I could not get to take a charge with a normal charger. This is an amazing product with a series of modes and sequences that is light years above other chargers. Definitely a 5/5, super wise investment on my part!

Well made and durable. We tow two kayaks on a boat trailer and they stick out a few feet from the end. These bright red meshes attach easily with caribiners to the kayaks and provide an added measure of safety to cars behind us. Our State also requires something like this when carrying long items on vehicles and trailers. This is a very inexpensive safety device for towing and hauling long items on truck beds and trailers. Highly recommended.

In any case, I wish it had a little more power for the size, but all in all, I like it. I've never wanted to use the second usb port either, I'd get rid of that...

Discount Duracell D2A 2 AMP 12V Battery Maintainer / Charger

I wanted a charger to keep my car battery charged (but not overcharged!) while I am absent on multi-week trips. So far the Duracell 2 Amp charger seems to be working well.

It is a three-stage charger. The specification says that depending on the current state of the battery, it will do a fast charge to around 80%, then a slower charge to almost full, then finally move to a lower voltage "floating" charge to keep the battery near 100% without overcharging.

I used a multimeter to watch the charging process. My battery was mostly full to start with, so the charger started charging at 14.1 volts (the slow charge mode) and then after a few hours moved to 12.7 volts (for the floating charge). These both seem appropriate voltages. In particular, the floating voltage of 12.7 volts should be safe for long-term battery maintenance.

After about two days on floating charge, my charger's red charging light finally went off. Over the next couple of weeks, when I checked the charger, the red charging light was mostly off but I occasionally noticed it on. It looks like the charger is moving between off and floating charge as needed for sustained maintenance.

I'll have to see how the charger holds up under long-term use, but so far everything looks good.

Update November 2010: I've been using this for two years now and I continue to be very happy with it. It's pleasant to come back from a four week absence to a fully charged car battery, with zero hassles!

I use this with my classic motorcycles and it's taken a beating. Gotten soaked and dried out. Fallen to the concrete floor on numerous occasions, and it's still running like a swiss watch.

The Cigarette Plug/Power Outlet Plug is the best feature. Most battery retainers come with clamps requiring the user to open the hood and clamping the leads to the battery and a body part. This unit plugs directly into the cigarette lighter/power outlet. As the amperage is greater than the drain on the battery (the battery is always draining because it is hooked up to the car), the electrical flow goes toward the battery and it keeps fully charged! No brainer to use. Note: if the power light does not light up when it is plugged into the AC send it back right way via Amazon.com return.
