The CTEK line of lead acid automotive battery chargers is built around a comparatively high quality interconnect between the charger cord and the battery. Ctek uses a quality socket for this purpose with an o-ring gasket to prevent water infiltration and a rubber cover that keeps foreign matter out. This is in stark contrast to other battery charger systems with rings or alligator clips which use just a 2 terminal plug, one being insulated and one being exposed metal. After one season of weather these tend to corrode due to the 12V between them and the ability for water to get into the connector without any gaskets.

Fortunately CTEK adopted their quality gasketed interface across all products, and included some unique features along the way. All chargers use one gender and all batteries or things to be charged use a the opposite gender with a rubber cap to protect it when the charger is disconnected. The interface features a snap to hold the two halves together .

For connecting to the battery they make 6, 8 and 10 mm rings, alligator clips, and 2 very special connectors, this being one of them. The second special connector is the CTEK 56-380 Comfort Indicator Panel. Both this input which terminates in 8mm rings and the 56-380 which snaps into most import dash DIN outlets providing you with a convenient place to plug in your CTEK charger (any model) include a blinking (about 1 blink/second) red-yellow-green LED which indicates the present battery level.

How do they do it? For Lead Acid (and also other lead chemistry including SLA, lead calcium, and optima batteries) the standardized test is to charge a battery and desulphate if needed (CTEK has a patented charging system which includes desulphating pulses). Second, the battery is allowed to rest for 24 hours with no charging and no load on the cell. After 24 hours resting a voltage measurement is made which determines how "full" the battery is. The simple rule of thumb (and this is by no means perfect) is that 12.00VDC means the battery is dead while 12.80 means the battery is 100% charged. The scale between 12.00 and 12.80 is roughly linear allowing the observer to determine the state of charge to a rough degree of certainty assuming a linear relationship. 12.40 volts after 24 hours of non-use would indicate the battery is 50% charged and would blink the yellow LED on the 3 LED display. Over 12.5V usually blinks the green LED and below 12.3V blinks the Red indicating you would be wise to charge now.

The only difference in this part of the CTEK system and the one I purchased is the form factor. This accessory does everything mine does but it is for battery systems without a din standard dash (where you would use the 56-380 panel mount charge jack and indicator) here the indicator and charge jack are in a "blob" at the end of 55 cm of cable designed to be wired to the battery. All CTEK features and quality are designed into this accessory.

If you need to be able to connect your charger fast and don't want to have to connect it to battery post every time like I didn't then I highly recommend getting this.. I have a very loud after market stereo system in my truck and this made it very easy to connect my charger when my Optima yellow top battery is a little drained from my subwoofers beating the doors off.

This is a great product! installs very easy and tells you what your batteries condition is... and if you need to charge it, you just plug it in to your ctek charger and your good to go.

NOTE*** I read a review that the person stated they had 3 of these and they were terrible and they couldn't believe the same company made these as the ctek chargers. Not to sound rude, but I believe they did not understand how they work... It says in the directions that you must wait about 30 min after any battery use, (charging or discharging) before the indicator will be correct. I have hooked up several from my boat, UTV and vehicle's and they all work perfectly. I love these things. You must understand how they work before you give bad inaccurate reviews.

When I'm in the car, I need the ability to charge my Blackberry. That's what i got this piece of junk for. I got this thing pretty cheaply (I believe the shipping cost more $ than the kit itself), but I guess you get what you pay for. Car charging plug is STONE COLD DEAD. And I've only used it maybe once before. Turned the key in the ignition, and to my utter chagrin, NO RED LIGHT *gulp* Taken aback, I incredulously played with the cord, poked at the plug, etc-hoping that it was just a faulty connection-but NO. Dead. No power. This really screwed me over, too, because I was in a remote location-out for the day-and SORELY needed to charge my dead phone. Couldn't do it-for want of a part that i paid to get and was supposed to have the use of. As I mentioned, I've only used this charger perhaps once before. Ugh, ugh. Conveniently, the guarantee is long gone. Back to Amazon to find a replacement kit that's a LITTLE better.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR $ ON THIS. If I had 3 or 4 thumbs, I'd give it 4 thumbs down.

The item was delivered fast. The cost was unbelievably low. It is an ok product. Won't be using it except in emergency type situations due to its poorer quality fit.... i.e. I am afraid I am going to break it by plugging it into my phone, or worse, break my phone. My phone is old but AWESOME so I don't want to mess up a good thing. I would recommend this company. The product that came was OEM AT&T so I don't think the fit is the sellers issue.

I just talked to the manufacturer. The regular Battery Tender Plus will charge lead acid, SGM, and Gel cell batteries. THIS model is not a regularly available model from the manufacturer, and should ONLY be used for the TRUE GEL BATTERY that is on the newer BMW motorcyles. This charger is optimized for that battery and is not optimized for other battery types (although it will work, but not optimally since it will not provide the best voltages needed.) A gel cell battery is not the same as a true gel battery, hence the confusion that people are having.

So .. will it work? Yes. Is it recommended by the manufacturer and optimized for other battery types? No.

The above is from my conversation with a representative from Deltran. Please do not flame me if you don't agree with what the manufacturer told me. I suggest you call them if there are disagreements. I just wanted to post this to provide some clarification since I am in the market for the Battery Tender Plus. Deltran's recommendation was to go with model 02-0128 unless I have the appropriate BMW motorcycle.

I purchased this product in February of 2011 and it seemed to work fine. It says that this model can be used as a battery charger and it will change from charge mode to float/maintenance charge mode without damaging the battery like trickle chargers. In July of 2011 it just stopped working while it was connected to my classic car battery in float/maintenance charge mode. Of course I bought this model for its 10 year warranty, but now I find out that in addition to having to pay to ship it to the company, I also have to pay $15.95 for them to do Warranty Evaluation, & shipping & handling fees. When you pay $47.00 for an item and it costs you around $30.00 to pay for shipping & return shipping, what is the point of the warranty? This is supposed to be "the best" of battery chargers and they basically want me to pay for anything done to the unit. I am not impressed!

This little charger works great and takes up very little space. Product dimensions are incorrectly listed as 11x4x11 inches and 2.4 lb it is aproximately 4x3x3 inches, and can't weigh more than a half pound. It also lists the "Battery Tender 081-0069-6 Ring Terminal Harness with Black Fused 2-Pin Quick Disconnect Plug" as a "frequently bought together" item, but mine came with one. You only need more if you are planning to permanently mount them to more than one vehicle.

There seems to be some confusion as to what batteries this will charge. It is optimized for gel cells, which require a lower charging voltage than AGM or flooded. However, it is compatible with the latter 2 types. If you do not have true gel cell batteries, this is not the charger you want, but if you have a mix of 12V gel cell and 12V lead acid batteries, it will handle all of them. 021-0123 and 021-0128 are optimized for AGM batteries, compatible with flooded (STD), and not reccomended for gel cells. 021-0069 is optimized for flooded (STD) batteries, compatible with AGM batteries, and and not reccomended for gel cells. The 012-0156 does everything.

The only thing this charger won't do that I need is to charge 6V batteries, but at the price, I can't expect them to include that capability, so I'll buy their 6v model also.

After some correspondence with Odyssey Batteries (Enersys), it ends up that the battery tenders don't have a high enough float voltage for their batteries. This is all very confusing of late (gel cell, lead acid, dry cell, etc). Since the float voltage is not high enough, the battery is only about 90% charged max. I measured my BT+ at 13.24V while in float mode. Odyssey says that the float needs to be 13.5V minimum. Here's a quote from their service department:

"There are many great chargers that work well with most batteries on the market that do not fully charge the ODYSSEY battery so if your charger floats at less than 13.5V then it will sulfate the battery and it will fail premature due to consistent undercharging and maintaining the battery in an undercharged condition. Most Battery Tenders float at less than 13.5V"

So, don't plan on using a BT+ on an Odyssey battery. Now I understand why the engine wasn't cranking over as I thought it should. Time to find a better charger. I wish BT would mention this in their product descriptions/website/etc to save the consumer the hassle. I did find a recommended battery chrager list on Odyssey's website. To be fair, my other BT's have worked great on my lead acid batteries.

Best little electronic item I have bought recently. Little is what it is. The Battery Tender unit is really tiny compared to the old horse of a charger I was used to using. Very effective and very smart little unit. I tried more for a chuckle to see if I could wake up a scooter battery that showed a .5 volt remaining out of 12.4v initial start. It made up over 10v of relative charge in what was a dead battery. I was amazed and very satisfied with the capability of the Tender. Since there is no line voltage output it is a very safe unit to have around. It will hold your battery at full charge for many years. Any vehicle with a battery in it needs a Battery Tender if it is stored for more than a month at a time.

I really wanted to like this impact, and keep it for daily use in an auto shop environment....but it just didn't work out.

Number one was it does not seem to have the advertised torque capacity, I use Accutorq torque sticks on auto lug nuts, and this would not even get them torqued to 80 ft.lbs, where as my pneumatic

1/2 inch impact had no problems, was very disappointed with the power output, especially considering it's specs and being a 36 volt LiIon powered device.

Next deal breaker for me, and it may not be for some, is the socket retaining pin...it's a spring loaded PIN, which positively locks in the hole on an impact socket...you don't have to worry about the socket flying off, that is for sure...but in order to remove the socket, you have to manually depress the pin with a small screwdriver, punch, etc....not too good for changing sockets around in the middle of a complex job.

Lastly, I just plain did not care for the rocker style forward/backward power switch...and switch is the word...no varible speed here, it's either on or off....another less than ideal situation for automotive work.

I think this impact is more geared towards the construction trade, and if that is what you are using it for, it may very well be great. I just did not find it very appropriate for my application.

Had to snag the review title because its true. I use this thing to do everything from drive 6 inch lag bolts to 3 1/2 inch wood screws to work on my tractor. I am not sure if the other reviewer had a low battery or a bad tool but it can loosen 1 inch lugs on the tractor just fine that are torqued to will over 80 pounds 120 IIRC, if it can get them off it can put them on. I will use this to put them on nice and tight then I go to the hand torque wrench to get them to spec (Mountain 250lb). There is no adjustable torque setting but i didn't expect one as its not in the tool specifications. I love this tool and it is well worth the price. I ended up paying 420 for mine from TwinBargins (amazon retailer) when they were selling them cheaper. The fact that it comes with 2 batteries and a charger makes the tool itself very affordable when you factor in the individual costs. I would recommend this to everyone, especially if you have other 36 volt tools that can use the batteries.

A word to the wise, buy impact bits and sockets if you want frustration free driving. Also get this little ditty it doesn't come with it but it make the tool 10 times more useful.

Its a 1/2 to 1/4 hex adapter.

I am on my phone almost 12 hours straight every day for work. I bought this to keep my iPhone charging through out my work day. I plan on buying a second one, and using my iSound Power max with 16,000 mAh battery, but that is too heavy to carry. So I will be using it to charge these little batteries, so I will always have a fully charged battery available when the other one is exhausted.

UPDATE: This device only puts out 500 mA, so it will not properly charge an iPhone which requires 1 A or 1,000 mA. It is a good device, but underpowered for iPhone.

well, to start off, this product looks pretty cool. But when i received it, i charged it up and all the LED's lit up and when i held the side button, the flash light would come on. I bought it to charge my HTC Inspire, knowing it might not work due to the high power requirements. It will provide about a 30% charge. Since it did not work that well we used it with my wife's iPhone 3Gs. It worked a little better, with about a 50% charge. I will keep it around as an emergency backup to my emergency backup (that I am still shopping for).
