The CTEK line of lead acid automotive battery chargers is built around a comparatively high quality interconnect between the charger cord and the battery. Ctek uses a quality socket for this purpose with an o-ring gasket to prevent water infiltration and a rubber cover that keeps foreign matter out. This is in stark contrast to other battery charger systems with rings or alligator clips which use just a 2 terminal plug, one being insulated and one being exposed metal. After one season of weather these tend to corrode due to the 12V between them and the ability for water to get into the connector without any gaskets.

Fortunately CTEK adopted their quality gasketed interface across all products, and included some unique features along the way. All chargers use one gender and all batteries or things to be charged use a the opposite gender with a rubber cap to protect it when the charger is disconnected. The interface features a snap to hold the two halves together .

For connecting to the battery they make 6, 8 and 10 mm rings, alligator clips, and 2 very special connectors, this being one of them. The second special connector is the CTEK 56-380 Comfort Indicator Panel. Both this input which terminates in 8mm rings and the 56-380 which snaps into most import dash DIN outlets providing you with a convenient place to plug in your CTEK charger (any model) include a blinking (about 1 blink/second) red-yellow-green LED which indicates the present battery level.

How do they do it? For Lead Acid (and also other lead chemistry including SLA, lead calcium, and optima batteries) the standardized test is to charge a battery and desulphate if needed (CTEK has a patented charging system which includes desulphating pulses). Second, the battery is allowed to rest for 24 hours with no charging and no load on the cell. After 24 hours resting a voltage measurement is made which determines how "full" the battery is. The simple rule of thumb (and this is by no means perfect) is that 12.00VDC means the battery is dead while 12.80 means the battery is 100% charged. The scale between 12.00 and 12.80 is roughly linear allowing the observer to determine the state of charge to a rough degree of certainty assuming a linear relationship. 12.40 volts after 24 hours of non-use would indicate the battery is 50% charged and would blink the yellow LED on the 3 LED display. Over 12.5V usually blinks the green LED and below 12.3V blinks the Red indicating you would be wise to charge now.

The only difference in this part of the CTEK system and the one I purchased is the form factor. This accessory does everything mine does but it is for battery systems without a din standard dash (where you would use the 56-380 panel mount charge jack and indicator) here the indicator and charge jack are in a "blob" at the end of 55 cm of cable designed to be wired to the battery. All CTEK features and quality are designed into this accessory.

If you need to be able to connect your charger fast and don't want to have to connect it to battery post every time like I didn't then I highly recommend getting this.. I have a very loud after market stereo system in my truck and this made it very easy to connect my charger when my Optima yellow top battery is a little drained from my subwoofers beating the doors off.

This is a great product! installs very easy and tells you what your batteries condition is... and if you need to charge it, you just plug it in to your ctek charger and your good to go.

NOTE*** I read a review that the person stated they had 3 of these and they were terrible and they couldn't believe the same company made these as the ctek chargers. Not to sound rude, but I believe they did not understand how they work... It says in the directions that you must wait about 30 min after any battery use, (charging or discharging) before the indicator will be correct. I have hooked up several from my boat, UTV and vehicle's and they all work perfectly. I love these things. You must understand how they work before you give bad inaccurate reviews.

I have had this battery for a couple of days now and it works perfectly!!! I tested all the adapters that I could and all of them worked but the 30pin apple one(which is probably the most important) but it is ok because you can use any other cord that uses a USB as a power source. When I received the battery two lights were illuminated (which means that it has 50%-74%) and I charged it in the wall with an ac adapter and it took about 2 hours. Then to get all the lights to light up it took another 3 1/2 hours. I was lucky because I happened to have a mini USB cable around the house (that is the thicker one) to charge it. Both of the USB ports work. One is 5v and 1a and the other one is 5v and 2.1a. I have charged my iPad mini 5 times on one battery charge and my iPhone 5 15 times. The battery works great and I will keep you updated!

This is a great product, however, when my friend got a Limeade I noticed that it blows this charger away in terms of charging speed--and in terms of convenience, the Limeade may also nudge this one out as well. This device has a charging input in the middle of one long side, and two charging output USBs (1 and 2A) on the other side. The positioning of the inputs and outlets make it a bit difficult to transport while charging. Would have been great if they could have put them all on the end, where you could put it in a case. Because the outputs are sort of loose, if I move the lightning cable even slightly, it will reset the charging. This can be very annoying as if you are moving you may hear this noise 30 times in 2 minutes. I can get quite a few extra charges for my iPhone out of this, though I've never counted.

I ordered one from Ace Scrape Metal (?) on the 21st of June. It arrived on June 29th--a reasonable amount of time, considering it took them a couple of days to ship it. The photo is not correct, as the model has 2 LEDs at the bottom of the charger. I do like one thing about it especially well. The leads have terminal ends that are held in place with bolts. This makes it nice for two reasons: First, you can take them off for storage, travel, etc. Second, if you want to attach Power Poles, you don't have to cut the original leads. You can simply fasten the end terminals to the leads, and then use the Power Poles directly to the battery. I don't like having alligator clips on blade terminals of batteries. There is too much chance they can slip. I solved this problem for the time being, by using electrical tape to keep the leads in place, and put my Power Pole connection (to my radio) between the terminals. That way, if they do slip, there won't be a short circuit. I will make separate charging leads with Power Poles and spade terminals. I like the PSC-12800A-C, as the price is right. Although my AGM SLA battery is 9 amp hours, the charger actually only goes from 4-8 amp hours--not the 4-12 as the ad states. However, I called Power-Sonic and a tech advised me that it was so close that it would not harm my battery--it would just take longer to charge. The next size up had prices ranging from $75-90. That is a lot more to get one more needed amp hour. I like the $25 much better. So, the ad has the wrong picture and the wrong amp rating. Actually, my Power-Sonic battery I bought had a pic of a different model, and that was from a different company. Summarizing it--the charger is an intelligent charger, is compact, priced right and I'm glad I bought it.

I use this charger for "overnight" charging of various PowerSonic sealed lead acid batteries (4-10AH). It seems to do the job. I bought it because it was small and easily carried in a travel kit. The red and green status lights are appreciated. So far, no problems. Incidentally, this model does not have a DC pigtail, you have to furnish that. No problem for me as I made up a short pigtail with Anderson PowerPole connectors to fit my specific needs.

I installed this battery in my 2005 Toyota Prius with the help of the adapter kit from E-learnaid after my OEM battery died. Aside from costing $75 less than the dealer battery it has a higher capacity and can handle the occasional deep discharge when I 'forget' to turn off one of the interior lights.

The battery was well packaged in a heavy cardboard box and arrived within a few days of my order. It took about 1 hour to replace as there are several components in the way that had to be removed. I would recommend this battery to anyone who needs to replace their stock Prius battery.

This review isn't so much about the battery but more about the ease of ordering, the price and the quickness in delivery. I found my Honda S2000 with a failing factory battery. I purchased the Optima 8071-167 D51 Yellow Top battery from Amazon.com LLC for my daughter's 2002 Honda Civic. I installed it in the parking lot where she works. After mounting the battery in the car under the hold down strap I removed the plastic caps on the terminals to install the cables. I removed the negative terminal cap after connecting the positive cable and that is when I discovered the battery was not new. The negative terminal post had several gouges and marks and was no longer full diameter. I just barely was able to tighten the cable clamp enough to secure the ground cable to the post. The post was clean and covered with a tear off plastic cap, in fact the entire battery was clean and otherwise looked new. By the time I discovered the issue I had removed the old battery and installed the new. It just wasn't worth the hassle to uninstall the Optima, re-install the old battery and try and ship the Optima back to Amazon. So beware these batteries are not new. At best they are reconditioned batteries. At worst they are returns that have been cleaned up and repackaged. (I wonder if someone had tried to reduce the terminal diameter to install it in a Prius before giving up and returning the battery). Shame on you Amazon for advertising these as new!

I purchased this unit specifically for my wife's Nissan leaf. We were being charged $2000 At the dealer and maybe more just to have this same unit installed at our home. The unit arrived ahead of time and I contracted an electrician soon after. Once the electrician determined that the load can be handled by the electric panel it took him two and a half hours to do the job. My suggestion to anyone who intends on getting one of these units is to place it as close and as practical as you can to the electric box and take into consideration where the vehicle will be positioned this way the materials to operate will run you less. The 25 foot cord is more than ideal for my application. The installation was $150 for the electrician and the unit was $900. It's only been in use for a month and a half and it works fine ( hope it lasts) . We are able to shorten the charging time to approximately 4 times faster than the standard cord.

So far so good. We have a 2011 Nissan Leaf. We've only been using the charging station for a few weeks. My husband is pretty handy so he was able to install it on the front of the garage without any issues. It fully charges the car in about 6 hours. Plugging the Leaf into a regular household outlet takes about 12 +\hours to fully charge. I would recommend this charger.

First thing you should know that other reviews are crazy. The one with one star must of been defective because it still works great and charging is a piece of cake. The other one has an otterbox on it so of course it wouldn't stay on but he is extremely right in how powerful it is. I have a 4th generation iPod touch and the battery had almost two full charges and at least what I noticed, it does charge a little bit faster than the normal charging USB. I highly recommend buying this, it's a little pricy but with quality there's going to be a little extra spent. It's worth it though!

It works, that is the most important thing. I purchased mine in the store, the box did not say anything about the cable length, I measured mine, the cable is only about 27" long, that is two feet and a couple inches (doesn't 70cm sound so much longer?). Amused me to see it called a wall charger when plugging it into the wall would mean leaving your ipod on the floor... someday I'm going to wrap it up and see if there is anything like the amount of cable left as shown in the picture after wrapping it around the base five times, I really doubt it.

But, it works and is a lot less expensive than some others.

The charger is nice and compact. I like the convenience of the light on the charger that lets you know across a room if your device is charged. The included iPod/iPad/iPhone cable is a little short for my taste. I haven't tried wrapping a long cable around the charger but it looks like it could work.

Recently the price on inverters (esp true sine) has dropped quite a bit (there are two xantrex 1000 watt units the older 750 buck one and now the $200-$300 price one). Xantrex has a wonderful reputation. I own this inverter along with their older model (pro-sine) and also the new entry from sunforce (yes I have alot of 1000w inverters).

I also have alot of 1000w loads. In particular is my favorite testload a 1050 w (with motorthe heating element is 1000w exactly but it has a blower that consumes 50w so technically its a tad high).

With this dummy load both of my xantrex inverters will run it all day or until the battery bank dies whichever comes first. They draw about 110-115 amps on the 12vdc lines.

The sunforce 1000w inverter CAN NOT run this load for more than 2 seconds without an output overload shutdown. But I still like the sunforce because it can handle 900W and it has an RF keychain remote on/off switch.

The point is Xantrex products are clean, reliable power, while other knockoffs (compare sunforce's 1K and this one and guess who coppied who) are not up to being a real 1K unit. If anyone wants a demo my email is in my profile i'd be happy to film the two side by side on optima D31 blue top batteries and even give the sunforce the running head start with the fresh charge on the cells 2 seconds and it will shutdown. Yes, i know 1050 watts is over 1000w, but the xantrex will drain the batteries before they complain of anything else runing the heatgun.

This is the leading brand in inverters today. Their new product line offers 3x the value of their older units without sacrificing quality or stability. It's a real value in high power inverters. Unfortunately, xantrex moved their mfg overseas and the quality suffered from more than one report. We no longer use this model, but for an apples to apples comparison against offshore mfg inverters, xantrex still has a better design to begin with = better product to ship back to the usa

So far I returned (3) inverters (1)Power Bright PW400, (2)Tripp Lite PV1000 because the output voltage was to low (89-95volts). Fluorescent light would not be as bright,fan would not come up to speed and I"m sure this was not good for motors. Had this one for (3) days (Xantres Prowatt SW 1000) and am very satisfied with it. Output voltage is 124 volts, lights are bright motors are running up to speed And my running amps are lower. I don't know whether this unit is just made better or if its because its a pure sine wave inverter or both but it puts the other inverters I tried to shame.

I'm not running much off this device and the thing that strikes me is that the cooling fan only turns on when a certain temperature is reached. So for small loads, it's very quiet because the fan has no need to turn on. Previous experiences with inverter default to the fan being on and they are often very noisy.

The sine wave seems to be clean. After trying this, I'll never go back to modified sine waves for devices remotely designed to work with sine waves. Otherwise, I'll just go with the cheap square wave inverters.

I plan on buying another unit in the future.

I bought this about two months ago. So far I only use about 250 watts everyday 6-7 hours run time) and have had no issues at all. To test it I plugged in my 32" tube TV, two 60 watt lamps, two 15'6 notebooks, PS3 Playstation and the Frig. Ran it all just fine and took the surge from the Frig very easily. And more I'm sure! Well made product, great directions, easy to intall. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a well made power inverter that performs as advertised.

I purchased this inverter to use as part of a home backup power system. I previously was using an 1100W modified sine wave inverter, but it wasn't running some of my more sensitive items as well. For example, my furnace fan ran slower and I'd get some weird flickering in my fridge lights. Switching to this has resolved that issue.

One caveat though...If you are thinking of plugging into a home transfer switch with this inverter you may run into problems. The second I plugged my into my transfer switch the GFCI outlet popped and power output ceased. My electrical panel has my neutral and ground bonded, so the inverter was not able to sense the returning voltage and thought someone was getting fried.

I did some research online and someone else in another review said they had changed the GFCI outlet in the inverter to resolve their issue. I decided to give that a shot (note that this voids your warranty). If you're comfortable working with electrical stuff it turns out it is not a difficult project. The unit uses a standard GFCI outlet. You can replace it with a normal outlet from the hardware store with little trouble. You only need to remove the front portion of the device to do this. Most of the circuits I am powering are protected in my breaker panel by GFCI or arc fault breakers already so I was comfortable with this change.

Overall the unit is very high quality and I was very impressed by how solid it is put together. Since I use this only for emergencies I will have to update the review later to let you know how it holds up, but for now it ran through my tests without a problem.

UPDATE: After only a couple short uses, this unit emitted a loud "pop" along with associated electronic smoke. It still turns on and supplies power but the the smoke returns here and there and I do not feel safe using it. It's surprising to me that it isn't detecting a fault of any kind after several incidents like this. As a result I am dropping my review a couple notches.

So far this unit has performed well. I used it to jump-start a raggedy old farm tractor, and the little box seems to have an impressive amount of cranking power (for short bursts, anyway).

I've used the inflator twice to inflate a car and a truck tire. Takes awhile to get a tire up to pressure, but's that's normal with these little compressors. For it's size, it's quite adequate as an emergency air source. Took me about 8 minutes to bring the car tire up from 25 PSI to 45 PSI (under the weight of the vehicle). Really not that bad.

The truck tire took a bit longer, as I had to stop the unit to let it cool down. B&D recommends running the inflator for no more than 10 minutes continuously. Total time to bring this nearly-flat tire up to pressure: Just under a half-hour. Again, not too shabby considering how small this thing is.

I like the layout of the controls and indicators. Clear, easy to read, easy to access. Storage for the jumper cables is OK. I'd prefer to see them stowed in a sealed compartment, but they seem pretty secure. Keep the clamps clean, and there shouldn't be any issues storing this in a car.

Storage for the inflator hose is cheesy. It's stuffed into a tiny compartment, and you have to really bend the hose in order to get it inside. The maximum length of the air hose is about 2 feet. You must set the unit very close to the tire for the hose to reach the valve. Not a problem for me so far, but keep this in mind if you need a unit with a long reach. B&D could have done better here.

A major gripe I have is that the inflator has no provision for a backup power source. Depending on how long the internal battery will remain charged in storage, you might find it lacks the juice to power the unit in an emergency. Why couldn't B&D include a 12V cigarette adaptor for this situation? For a unit that's supposed to be a piece of emergency gear, this seems like a glaring oversight. You'd better hope that the internal battery is extremely reliable without it, the unit is useless. Could have been a five-star rating if not for that issue.

Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase. Reliability will be the ultimate test, and it's still too early to pass judgement. If it holds up season after season, and delivers the goods when really needed, I may change my rating to 5 stars. For under 100 bucks, I'd say give it a try.

UPDATE: 12 Jan 2010

The inflator died on me, with less than 4 hours total runtime. The motor was cranking away, but there was no air pressure at all. Brought it to a B&D service center, and paid $15 to have a new one shipped to my home. No hassle at all returning the unit, and the replacement is working as advertised so far. Maybe I just got a lemon, so I'm not going to downgrade the rating at this time. Will check back at a later date.

UPDATE: 23 Aug 2011

Working fine after 15 hours of compressor use. I was advised not to store the unit very long in sub-freezing temperatures. This apparently can damage the compressor, which may be the reason my first unit failed.

This review is for the Black & Decker JUS500IB 500 Amp Jump Starter with Inflator

I received this last week, plugged it in to charge the battery, and planned to leave it in the garage. I wasn't planning on writing a review until I used it, until this morning when I needed jump-start my car because "someone" left the lights on overnight. Sure enough, I put this baby to work immediately and the engine started (no surprise there).

What I was surprised about was that I needed to connect both the positive and negative to their respective terminals. At first, I connected the negative clamp to the chasis (like how I would normally jump a car), but my car would not start. I tried several places along the non-painted metal frame part and even the engine block of the dead car to no avail. As a last resort, I connected it to the bolt of the negative post (while wearing eye protection), and the car started. I know this is a no-no, but nothing else worked, and I needed to go to work. I'll troubleshoot at a later time (or most likely never). UPDATE: I've since used this on various automobiles (including the problematic car described above), and connecting the negative clamp to the chasis works perfectly fine now. I'm not sure what happened since, but now it is working fine following the proper useage.

Now, I keep it in the trunk, just in case. It has a nice compact body, so it does not take up much space. I like the light on the unit, but it is also a bit awkward to use (it points UP, rather than down), so I had to hold the unit upside down to see what I was doing. I have yet to use the inflator, so I have nothing to contribute about it. I did try it, and it seems to work. The compartment for the hose is awkward (behind a small plastic door underneath), but at least the hose is stored and not dangling around.

It does not come with an extension cord, which is required for charging. Luckily, I had one available, but it would have been nice to have come with one (even a six-footer would be nice). (Minus half star)

Overall, a very nice portable jump starter. I have a project car that constantly needs a jump, and I found this jump starter readily handy. For those who do not anticipate to use it a lot, this unit may be a bit overkill, and there are other smaller and cheaper alternatives. Highly recommended. Will update in a few months.

I've owned this for almost a year now, and I can honestly tell you, buy the jump starter without the tire inflator.

The jump starter works great, the internal battery lasts a very long time, and this unit is very well made for the most part.

The weak link is the tire inflator. It overheats very quickly depending on the outside temp. In hot sunny weather it began smoking in a few minutes. Within a few months of regular usage (I have a bad rim on my car), the inflator completely died. It ran, it just has no air pressure.

I guess in an emergency the inflator would do it's job, but for regular usage, buy a better inflator.

The light works well, but points straight up.

The usb charger worked as it should.

I'd give 5 stars except for the inflator.

This product serves its purpose to perfection. I have used this to start my car 3 times. I also used it to start my mothers van which was dead for about 3 months. Each vehicle started up in less than a minute. Usually within 20 seconds. The only criticism is that apparently it seems to have a problem with the inflator because mines went out as well. I purchased this product at my local walmart and they replaced it. My second unit has been trouble free and works perfectly. Highly recommended for emergency situations. I would purchase this product again.
