Review of eForCity Universal USB Car Charger Single Port
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $19.99
Sale Price: $2.87
Today's Bonus: 86% Off

Two problems keep me from rating this very inexpensive car USB charger higher:
1. The charger that I received doesn't appear to be the same charger pictured on the product description. (eg., completely different molded body, glass tube fuse instead of plastic-encased fuse.)
2. It won't charge my iPhone properly. After some testing with a multimeter, it seems the output is close to 6 VDC, despite being labeled as 5 VDC +/5%, which would be a max. voltage of 5.25 VDC.
Overall, it's not worthless. Other less sensitive USB-powered products may be able to be charged by this.
An update: I subsequently purchased a few Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapters offered by Eforcity (search Amazon or eBay). What a difference. The Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapters is exactly what this product should be made alike. Solid, compact, and reliable. Both are inexpensive Chinese made products, but one is total junk and other a gem.
Cons: Not compatible with all Phones or newer iPods. BUT there is a solution that requires soldering and two 100k Radio$hack resistors.
Overall impression: Good deal, decent build quality, easy to take apart to "fix/modify it" to get it working with newer iPods/iphones/cell phones.

"iphone 3g USB Cigarette Lighter Socket Charger"
I do think the body is bigger than it should be, and can be reduced by 50% or more, with essentially a "stub" containing the USB port.
Still this is priced right and works.
-Works well with many devices
-Snugly fits in the cigarette lighter
-Light tells you if you have power
-GREAT PRICE!!!
-Although slightly bulky, it's great that it has no cord of it's own. When traveling I would be bringing my spare 3715WW Tungsten 5 cable (see my other review) anyway, so there's less tangly mess to deal with
Con:
-Slightly bulky... for it's size I think that it could have 2 connections so that 2 devices could be powered/recharged at one time
Bottom line: Highly recommended.

I bought two of these, both fell apart (literally) within several weeks of infrequent use. Even when they worked, they never worked reliably and required connstant twisting and turning and pushing to get a connection. The whole thing looked like they were put together by a child (no, I'm just talking figuratively and not implying what you think I'm implying about Chinese labor, which is a whole different issue). A gentle squeeze, the thing goes squeaky and shaky. Unlike most other car adapters, this one doesn't have a snugly fit into the cigarette lighter. It is just so wobbly everywhere. Avoid such low quality products to keep your life sane.An update: I subsequently purchased a few Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapters offered by Eforcity (search Amazon or eBay). Cheap Solio Classic Hybrid Solar Charger (new)
Most of the five-star reviews were created on September 23. Anyone else find that suspicious?
The solio is okay; it's works for charging your phone one afternoon when you don't need it, or for small emergency charges, but I wouldn't recommend it as a regular back-up plan. I usually just use a fold-out flexible solar panel, which, while more expensive on the whole, was cheaper for the amount of product included and charges way faster.
I emailed them requesting the part, and here was their reply: "Unfortunatly we do not sell parts for your Solio. You will need to purchase a replacment unit."
My response: "This is very disappointing and unreasonable. I am not going to spend tens of dollars replacing a perfectly functional unit simply because an inexpensive plastic part has broken. I suggest you rethink this policy. Since you still manufacture the Classic, the part must still be available. This is really poor customer relations!"
They responded: "We do not do repairs on site. The unit holds a one year warrenty, if you are out of that time period you will have to purchase another unit. I apologize if you do not agree with our policy."
I suggest you do not support a company that on one hand touts its environmental cachet, and on the other promotes the senseless discarding of an easily repairable product.
If you are considering purchasing this charger, keep in mind the following technical considerations:
The charging efficiency of most portable electronics is usually somewhere between 20-70%. Most items like cell phones, GPS units, etc. waste a portion of the recharging energy as heat.
What this means is that this charger, with a 1650MAH battery, can deliver between 330-1155 MAH of charge. If your cell phone has a 1500MAH battery, you will get a maximum of a 77% charge from this, you should expect less.
My LG android phone will charge to about 60% when this is fully charged.

I took this product backpacking. First, I wanted to test it, so I placed it outside in the sun to achieve a full charge. After 4 hours, it was minimally charged (maybe 10%), so I plugged into my laptop's USB to finish the charging, which took the rest of the day and all night to reach 100%. Let down number two occurred in the back-country, when my iPhone 3G ran low on juice after a few days of intermittent GPS use. I used the included attachments to connect my iPhone to the Solio Classic and hit the "Start" button (solio's only button--the instructions are odd pictures; no words). The iPhone registered that it was being charged; however, after 5 minutes, I checked the progress only to find that the Solio had quit charging. After attempting this nearly 30 times throughout the next few days, my iphone was none the better, in-fact it probably had less juice from the constant on/off of this disjointed charge attempt. I am unimpressed and will return this item as soon as I get home!Best Deals for Solio Classic Hybrid Solar Charger (new)
I purchased a Solio Classic for use on a cross country bike trip. The product worked well, recharging a PDA, iPod and cell phone. But a piece (the center bushing around which the solar wings pivot) broke. It was my fault and I figured I could contact the company for a replacement part once I finished the trip.I emailed them requesting the part, and here was their reply: "Unfortunatly we do not sell parts for your Solio. This product took so long to charge that it was pretty much useless. I would try days and days to get a weak charge. Now I just throw it in my drawer since I can't get myself to toss it. (Too painful to just chuck it.) I should learn how to let it go, grieve over my loss, and move on! (btw: I am in the denial stage of grief.) Good luck and hope you have better luck than me.Saturday, December 6, 2014
Buy Briggs & Stratton 30471 8,000 Watt 420cc Gas Powered Portable

At first the lack of reviews and some issues discussed with other models made me leery of this purchase, but after research on other sites and talking to people here in the Northeast who used their generators after the ice storms heavily, I decided on this generator and I am very pleased. The generator arrived promptly, in excellent condition, was put in my garage for me, and took me all of 15 minutes to go from in the box to running. With the battery start, I know that my wife can start his up and key warm if we loose power in the winter, even if I am at work.
+ Easy set-up. Box to power in less than 15 minutes. Only tools needed is a box knife, socket set, and a box wrench.
+ Quick Start Guide. Really every thing you need to know to put it together and get it running.
+ Easy start. Kicked right over on the first turn of the key and the choke was off within a minute
+ Fuel Gauge. Some sites said it didn't have one, but it does.
+ Low Oil Shutoff. Some sites said it did not have one, but it does
+ Battery. Later I complain about what this unit did not include in the box, but they did include the battery. Some generators do not.
+ Weather Protectors. There are rubber covers over the power connections. Although this unit is not rain-proof, it dies keep moisture at a minimum.
+ Battery Trickle Charger. Plug in your generator to trickle charge the starter battery to keep it at its peak readiness.
+ Large Wheels. In conjunction with he fold down handle, rolls around easily.
+ Looks Good. Okay. it's a generator, but it does look nice.
Neutral Noise. Although not as quiet as a Honda, this unit is about the same noise level as my lawn tractor. Tolerable, but not great.
Neutral Oil Fill Location. Instructions say a funnel is optional to fill the oil. I recommend using one if you want to keep oil off the floor.
Minus What it Does NOT Come With. Many generators include a power cord, fuel stabilizer, a funnel, etc. The only thing you get with this generator is the oil and the starter battery. Is it too much to ask that you get everything you need out of the box and don't need to run about buying the pieces? It is not like these are inexpensive items to begin with. (NOTE This is not unique to this unit or this company. As you research, you will find that different companies include different things).
Update In October 2011 the NE suffered a early snow and this caused power to go out at my home for four days. The generator supplied us power for the entire four days and ran without issue. By balancing our load, not use any heavy demand items (oven, stove top, dryer, AC, etc.) and keeping the generator fueled (burned just under a gallon an hour on full load) we lived normally. My only complaint is that the keyed socket for the generator cable appears NOT to be the quality I would have liked and removal of the cable after the power came on was difficult and I could see damage to the socket.
Update #2 Maybe it is and October event, but the East Coast suffered another serious storm in October 2012 knocking out power in my area for a day. The generator had no real use since October 2011 (although I do run it under load once a month and use fuel stabilizer). The generator started right up and supplied us power for the duration. Again, other than the noise of he generator, you would have not known we were without power. As far as I can see, it looks and runs like brand new. I remain very satisfied with my purchase.
Anyway, the generator appears to work as it should otherwise and the battery had full change on it and started without issues. With all the rust starting to creep on the metal fuel tank you should make sure to install a fuel filter on the gas line before your engine gets destroyed...
The generator came well-packaged with easy to understand instructions. The wheel kit was the only thing that needed to be assembled. After attaching the negative wire to the battery and adding some oil, the machine was ready to go. After making sure that the fuel feed was in the "on" position, the generator started on the first try with the key-start. Although it is not "quiet," it is probably more quiet than other generators with similar power ratings. For the money, this is a great generator that I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone needing a portable gasoline powered generator with 8,000 watts of running power.
I always liked Briggs and Stration products.
When I was a kid we purchased Briggs and Straton engines for our Go-carts and Mini-bikes. Never had any issues, they just ran and ran well.
I purchased the first model 30471 in 2010, It ran well and did it's job powering up my home. There were a few small issues: Rust under frame paint in one area and paint blistered off. Fuel valve screen was made defective, some of the plastic molding filled 1/2 of screen. The top engine chrome cover leaked oil out after runnning. Fuel gauge float was defective and did not work properly.
When I called Briggs and Stratton for help, They sent out parts needed. Sometimes there were errors in parts sent, but at least I did not need to take to a shop for repair! After fixing these issues all was well.
Being stupid I sold the 30471 generator and purchased a Generac XG8000E, Thinking it was better overall Made in USA.
What a mistake I made buying a new Generac XG8000E,There are so many cons and issues. The frame is not one piece, the handle end section was bolted to the main frame with bolts that were self threading and had a drill tip to cut hole. Both of these self drilling/threading bolts were stripped out. I called Generac for help, they say they do not carry or sell parts to call Parts Tree.
Parts Tree does not carry or know what the end frame is. This went on with every issue on this generator.
Issues on Generac XG800E are: Poor workman ship in assembly and no quality control. Fuel splashes back when carefully trying to fill tank (fine inlet screen not letting fuel pass through). 90% of assembly bolts had stripped threads and cross threaded. Plastic fuel shut-off valve would turn very hard or fall into control panel. Plastic fuel filter rests on vibrating metal motor shroud. To service battery you must remove frame side plate and gas tank (tank has no drain or close shut-off). The narrow hard rubber wheels do not roll over the slightest step easily. Replacement metal parts do not fit as original. Many common parts are not available (on backorder). The outlets on control panel are weather covered, but not breaker buttons, charging jack or start switch. Louder rennning then Briggs and Stratton 30471. Latch on handles does not always work (sticks inward and will not lock).
I ran this new Generac XG8000E for 1 3/4 Hrs,the lift handle, entire right side of frame, part of gas tank and end frame plate Were so hot I burned my hand trying to move generator after it was shut off. Very poor design! Muffler exit sets inward of frame facing direction of lift handles,Exhaust heat blowing on end frame lift handle and frame end plate where battery is mounted on backside of end plate.
Maybe the engine with pressure oil system is good but the rest of this Generac is crap.
If you email Generac,You most likely get a reply from Sara,a phoney name..
*I purchased a new 2012 model of the Briggs and Stratton 30471 revision 01, There are improvements. The frame paint is better, The gas cap is vented through a hose (no more vented gas on the tank around the gas cap. Screening in fuel valve is improved. Some improved frame welding changes.
Ok I am a true American! But honestly this Briggs and Stratton is such a better design then the Generac XG8000E. Briggs 30471-01 runs quieter, Better frame, Metal fuel valve with removeable bowl and filter screen, Key start, Easier to roll tires, All outlets switches and buttons are weather protected, You can call and get most warranted parts. 3-Year warranty.
I give this 30471-01 5***** over Generac any day!!
Even though the Briggs has several China parts and was assembled in China. The Generac has some China parts assembled in USA with poor workmanship and no quality control.

After waiting almost a month for it to come in stock Amazon finally shipped my 30471. No problems with the delivery or the state of packaging. Once opened the box I was surprised to see that manufacturing date was January 2010 which did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about it. Upon further inspection I have noticed that inside base of the metal fuel tank is already have early indicators of rusting. To top it off, after fueling it up almost to a full, the fuel gauge is not working and sitting at empty. A call to Briggs only added further frustration as the woman answered the phone after 20+ minute hold time (which was suppose to be only 3 minutes as per the automated system) was the nastiest, most unhelpful customer I every had with my entire dealing with any customer support line. I was expecting any minute for for her to curse me for calling the customer support. First she says she can't find anything in English on the unit and then she claims that there is no gas gauge on that model and I must be talking about the gas cap. Upon convincing her that there is a gas gauge she finally finds it. She tells me that she is not sure if they have any fuel gauges available, if they do !!!! she would send me one. I asked if there would be instructions included on how to install the replacement gauge, she started to bark NO, it is just 2 screws holding it and if I am not comfortable doing it I should take it to a service center. So, this is the kind a sub human service you will get from Briggs apparently. Very promising for my future purchases. Briggs if you give the a damn about customer service, you should listen to your customer service call recording.Anyway, the generator appears to work as it should otherwise and the battery had full change on it and started without issues. Customer Ratings:
List Price: $155.00

I am really happy with this solar panel regulator. My previous 25 amp regulator by Go_Power burned out after 6 years and I was very disappointed that the company had discontinued the 25 amp replacement regulator. The GP-PWM-30 requires a slightly larger cutout than the old panel but not much... The outside dimensions of the front panel are the same as are the screw holes to attach it. The new regulator has some features that make it worth buying as a replacement for the old 25 amp regulator.... even if the old one still functions. First... the wire connectors of the new board are much superior to the old ones which are not supported and wiggle against the solder joints of the circuit board. The new wire terminals do NOT stress the circuit board and should insure a longer life than the old one. Also, the features of the new board are awesome! The PWM-30 keeps track of the battery's condition and charges at slow/high rate depending on the battery needs. In the morning the regulator "ups" the charge rate to give the battery a good solid charge after it has been discharging overnight. A really neat feature of this regulator is that it sets up an "equalization" routine so the battery is equalized about once a month. I'm no expert but the equalization schedule is supposed to keep the battery de-sulphated so the lead plates last longer and the battery therefore lasts longer/performs better. If I had known how well this regulator would work I would have bought it sooner and not have waited for my old regulator to die such a slow, miserable death!!

I bought this for my RV to control a 50 watt panel, a bit of overkill, but I may add more panels later. I previously have used the same model on my boat and it works great.Best Deals for Go Power! GP-PWM-30 30 Amp Solar Regulator

Just got my new phone and wanted to have the ability to charge in my car. Well I got about 4 charges out of this unit and it just stopped working. I was so bummed too because I like the way it looks and having two ports, I thought, was a plus. Don't buy it. Now, I can't say anything about their return policy as I did not attempt to return it.
Being able to charge 2 different phones at the same time is so nice to be able to do.

I am very displeased in the performance of the GTMax Metallic Silver 2-Port USB Car Charger Adapter. I only used it a few times, and the last time I plugged it in, it did not work. It did not even show a power light. It had a burnt smell the last time I used it when it worked, and that time was when it died, I believe. I thought it would be a good deal, but it ended up not working right.Best Deals for Biru Gear Metallic Silver 2-Port (2.1A Output) USB Car Charger
This item has two USB ports, with different current ratings. It is very useful, but some care is needed so as not to plug a high-current device into the lower rated port.Honest reviews on Biru Gear Metallic Silver 2-Port (2.1A Output) USB Car Charger

This is such a great product, I bought two of them. Very inexpensive and our friend bought one and paid loads more for it. My husband and I both have IPhone 5's and we love the phone, bummed they changed the plug so we had to find another charger for the car and I found this one. I believe I can use this for my Kindle Fire as well, haven't tried it yet but this is handy!Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Bought two of these for both our cars. They fit both of our Samsung GS2 and Samsung GS3. They can even charge both at the same time if you have your home charger on you.Works, great price. Only negative is the cord is pretty short so you can't really use the phone while it's plugged in because it won't reach.

Best Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron Deals
This definitely isn't a Battery Tender in terms of build quality. It looks more like an indoor lab instrument than something you'll want to keep in a damp garage. The connectors are definitely not ruggedized, so after you connect the short one to the Shorai battery's special plug, you end up with a very raw-looking electronic connector end hanging out of the bike that you use to connect the opposite end from the charger. It's not like the typical SAE type connector used for a Battery Tender type charger.
So for dual-sport bikes, you'll end up with a connector on the bike that will get wet and muddy really quick. Best figure out somewhere to hide it or a way to wrap it in plastic or something for protection.
Also, the connector that goes to the battery is pretty short and it plugs into the charger. So you can't really set the charger on the floor and connect it to the short connector attached to the battery in the bike. You have to put a chair or box next to the bike to hold the charger.
Bottom line is that Shorai needs to look at the common Battery Tender to get a better idea of how a garage-ruggedized charging system should be built. Not that Battery Tender is the dog's bollocks, just that the Shorai system seems a bit fragile for motorcycles and garage use.
Otherwise, it charges and maintains the Shorai battery ok. It's a bit confusing; when you turn on the charger, you can choose maintenance or charge and you press the buttons but aren't really sure about what's happening.
It's also pretty expensive for what it is and I'm not really sure it's needed because the Li-Fe battery seems to last forever and reads full voltage all the time, no matter how long the bike sits -which is the advantage of buying a Li-Fe battery in the first place. So if your bike's charging system works correctly, you probably will not need a Shorai charger for your Shorai Li-Fe battery -save your money.
1. Charger plug into battery is a bit flimsy and requires some protection to prevent breakage or bending the contacts.
2. Cable to from battery to the power supply is too WAY short for many applications, such as placing the power supply on your work bench while charging the battery on your bike.
If a cable extension was available, that would solve the problem, but there does not seem to be such an item.

I bought this to go with the Shorai battery to discover that a normal tender will do the job... Cables are rerally short meaning the maintener has to hand on the side of the bike... expensive too!Best Deals for Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron
I already own Li-on/Li-Po chargers for my RC stuff, but I got this because it's plug and play and if you've already invested the over $100 in the Shorai or a similar A123 type battery, you might as well take care of it properly. I live in the Northeast, so it's necessary to keep it topped of for the winter. I have heated gear so I ride when most people don't.Honest reviews on Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron
Quality product. Has two modes... One keeps the battery at a storage maintenance voltage (60% of Full) so that there is no risk of overcharging while still being able to start my bike... The other fully charges the battery. Other chargers can fry lithium batteries.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Shorai Charge and Store Battery Management System for Lithium Iron
This is a nice item to have since it balances the charge to each cell, something other smart chargers don't do. Only 2 drawbacks are:1. Charger plug into battery is a bit flimsy and requires some protection to prevent breakage or bending the contacts.

The Garmin 2700 series of GPS navigation units are not powered by the mini-USB port on the back of the receiver. I'm not sure that this is the correct in house charger for the Garmin STreetpilot 550 GPS. The screen shows that the GPS thinks it is hooked up to the computer and after an hour it doesn't look like it charged any and the GPS had difficulty changing back to a regular screen, wanted to stay on the screen showing it was hooked up to computer. The box the charger came in showed it is a cellphone charger. It does fit correctly into the USB slot on the GPS but I'm not going to use it anymore til I make sure it is correct. I hope I haven't damaged my GPS.Honest reviews on Garmin Streetpilot 2610 / 2620 / 2720 / 2730 / 2820 / 7200 / 7500

I bought this replacement battery for my Battery Box as the original will no longer hold a charge. Fast delivery and the unit fit the battery box perfectly after I straightened out the terminals. Works great and delivers an apparently quick charge although it can get pretty hot which is a little disconcerting sometimes.Best Deals for MiLi Pocketpal HC-A30 Pocket-Sized USB Charger for iPhone, iPad
I purchased two of these from another vendor. They produced only 4.9 volts instead of the nominal 5.0 volts for USB devices. It would not charge a blackberry torch smart phone (got an error message) yet another charger did work (my other chargers put out 5.1 volts). The Mili 4.9 volts did charge another phone, however, the charge did not seem to last as long. It might work fine on some devices but be warned.Honest reviews on MiLi Pocketpal HC-A30 Pocket-Sized USB Charger for iPhone, iPad

I love the Gomadic system, but I wish buying individual tips was cheaper. While I like reducing the clutter of how many adapters I need to travel with...I "could" buy several cheap Chinese adapters for the cost of each tip!Because we are all changing our phones and adding other items that require charging, it is great to lose some of the techno clutter with Gomadic products. The charging cords and bases stay the same. You only have to change the tip to match your device. I love it!
