I don't know where to start with this it has so many cool features! I love that this can open and close power windows. You can walk away from car car with the windows down click the arm button and it rolls the windows up as well! The remote start is simply amazing I'm an xray tech and work in a room with all lead walls in the back of a building. My truck is parked in the front of the building and I can start it from my desk behind lead walls and several other concrete walls! I would recommend that you find a knowledgeable installer with a viper bitwriter. Best buy had no idea that this unit could roll the windows up and down so talk to your installer about what you want to do with it. Amazing product and I highly recommend it!

True story, I live in the DC slums. Well all of DC is a slum but I live in the slummiest part of the DC slums.

Up until recently, I drove a beat up car that looked crappy but ran great. When I moved to the DC slums (secure parking spot FTW!), I really didn't believe anyone would actually break into my car thinking I had anything of value in there. Alas, they did.

Lucky for me, around the same time hoodrats plundered my hooptie ride, the factory alarm on said hooptie ride had long since crapped out and one morning, was stuck in armed mode. I had to tow my car to a mechanic to disable the alarm (which killed the engine, meaning I couldn't start my car and it howled the entire way to the mechanic from the back of the tow truck) and there happened to be a guy who specializes in these alarms in the same strip as the mechanic. I set up an appointment to have the alarm installed within days.

I knew I wanted the "pager Viper" as I'd read about it somewhere but the alarm guy specifically ordered this one and I'm glad he did. He is familiar with hoodrats so he knew exactly which model I needed. I did not get remote start installed at that time but have since bought a new car the system was easy for him to remove from my old car but will be SUPER complicated for him to install in my new one (a 2011) so PLEASE go to someone who is familiar with Viper alarms to install yours and will be getting it put in that one. You can also wire this thing to open the trunk (I never go in mine so that's not a feature I require) apparently.

As others have said, I sleep well at night seeing this system's soothing blue light blinking from inside my car in the parking lot from my apartment window. A few times, I've been in the store and the pager has alerted me to some kind of nonsense going on near my car. It also alerted me to the fact that this trashy chick who always parks next to me was hitting my car with her door every time she opened it; I didn't mind as much on the old car but now that I have a new one with a fat car note, I'm not about to sit here and let trashy broads hit my car with theirs. The Viper 5901 scares the crap out of reckless hoodrats and helps me feel better about my decision to live in the worst part of one of America's worst cities. That kind of confidence is priceless. Plus it looks cool and I feel like a bad mofo sliding out to the parking lot getting chirped at by my vehicle. Come on, it's sexy.

This product has the potential to be a great unit. There is however several factors that pre-dispose this product to be a consumer nightmare!

The manufacturer of this product "Directed" is a huge company and probably one of the most well known for car security systems and remote starters. This should bode well for their products and support. There is one big problem, The company Directed wants NOTHING to do with actually supporting their product and expects you to seek assistance from your local authorized reseller/dealer.

This can be a problem if and when you happen to have a vehicle that the authorized reseller/dealer does not have much experience with.

I own a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and went to my local reseller/installer. I picked out this unit and had them install it. The job, as I was initially told would take 3 hours. Six hours into the install, they drove me home and said the car would be there all day. I got the call to pick up the call 8 hours after I dropped it off. They told me they had to get special wiring diagrams, but were finally finished and I could take it home. Not 2 days later the unit completely died. The car starter would not work. I took the car back, which the dealer said was odd but infact the unit was dead. They replaced the unit and returned my car after about 4 hours. The car worked well for 2 days, with the exception of my wife notificing that the car's cruise control no longer worked. The shop said that the problem had to be independant of their install because they do not tap into the cars cruise control wires. I had a hard time believing this, but told them I would pay attention and if it keeps up the problem I was going to bring it back in. I did not have to wait long because the next day the whole unit stopped working, exactly the same as the first unit. Dropped the car off again, and again the technician said the unit was dead. They installed the third unit and were confident my streak of bad luck has ended. They also said they tested the cruise control and it was working. I picked up the unit and tested it out. I realized the problem with the cruise control was infact not fixed, but was able to determine that whenever the vehicle was started with the remote start the cruise control did not work. When the car was started with the key, then the cruise control works fine. I tested this out three times each (key starts, and remote starts) on my way home from the shop. When I got home I called the shop again, to tell him that the cruise control was not fixed but I had narrowed it down to only not working when the car was started with remote start. The technician was stumped and said he would look into it, and call around to other shops to see if anyone knew why this was happening.

Well today the remote start unit DIED AGAIN! I called the Jeep dealership and they offered to take the car in and fix the wiring problem (they believed from the explination of the problems, that the units were never the problem, that the technician just had wired them into the car's control units incorrectly). They however wanted $99 for diagnostics, and then estimated 2hrs of work to fix. I explained this to the authorized Directed shop and they wanted to put yet a 4th unit in the car, and said their technician has over 15 yrs of installation, and it could not be his fault. Luckily I purchsed the 5yr warrantee on the unit, and the shop offers lifetime installation warrantee. The only problem is that if I keep going back, I will inevitably be in there every few days getting a new unit installed because they refuse to believe their technicians are at fault for a bad wiring job.

The product itself seems high quality. The actual manufacturer refuses to even address this issue, and refers me back to the authorized reseller. For a company to outright refuse to assist a consumer of their product is horrible. There is obviously a problem with their "authorized resellers" and thus I need to go above them to get my money back (which they refuse to give back any of the installation labor costs).

If you get a good shop that knows what their doing, then I feel comfortable the actual product will be solid. Just cross your fingers and hope, because the manufacturer will NOT SUPPORT YOU.

*UPDATE 02/27/2012 2 years+ with the unit*

I just wanted to update the review to let everyone know how the unit has been holding up.

After the authorized dealer called in their general manager, who correctly diagnosed the previous installation jobs as the problem; he personally installed a new system. The issue is that the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not utilize their standard wiring harnesses, and requires special wiring. Most importantly the wiring needs to have a series of resistors which mimic the cars natural system (this is what was causing the cruise control to fail the car resistance was off, and thought the break pedal was depressed; thus cruise didnt work). So after the install, and now in our car for quite awhile, the system has been working great.

The system is solid, you can trust that. The authorized installers would be my biggest concern buying this product again. I've since had to take the Jeep into the dealership to fix a bad ignition system (which the authorized installed refuse to believe is their fault). The Jeep dealership took me back into the shop, to show me the wiring of the remote starter. I cannot express in words how horrible the job looked. They had wires everywhere, and the connections were only taped closed. I ended up paying Jeep to re-wire the whole unit. I got a chance to see the before & after wiring job, and most definately can say the Dealership has much more workmanship. I also have not had a single issue with the unit since.

This is a good little meter.

Thumb uppers: Small overall size, large LCD display, auto-ranging, uses 2 AA batteries, uses standard sized banana plugs so is compatible with several 3rd party or customized probes/connectors.

Thumb downers: probe clips are such weak, soft rubber that they don't grip the probes securely. And it would be nice for a little more $$ to include a case. So instead buy a $3 camera case to solve both deficiencies. Too bad the over-sized instruction booklet isn't the same size as the meter so it can be stored in the same case.

This is a meter of above average quality for the price. A great meter to have for the do it your-selfer for around the house, car or boat. However, one function that is lacking is high range AC current (amps) the description says it measures AC current but doesn't say that the max AC amps it can test is 200mA or .2 amps, not really practical for ANY AC current measurments. You can measure the current of say a 20 watt AC light bulb with this meter. The PC you are using to read this draws about 3.5-4 AMPS or about 3500-4000 milli amps, this meter maxes out at 200 ma.

I bought it for AC amps but can't use it for that. I'll keep it as a back up meter but I have to buy a better meter for AC amps. I guess that's what I get for being a cheap skate... time to buy a Fluke!

This little meter is outstanding! I own a Fluke DMM 179 and of course that meter is top of the line. But would you believe this Equus 3320 is 99% spot on with it's readings when compared to a recently calibrated Fluke 179!! I compared measurements with the Equus 3320 and the Fluke 179, in AC Voltage, DC Voltage, Resistance, and DC voltage for the Equus in the Battery test modes. It had literally almost identical readings to the Fluke! The circuit board appears to use mostly prime spec electrical components, so I suspect it will remain accurate for a long time as long as it's not abused.

This meter sells on Amazon for less than $20, and has auto ranging. This means instead of having to dial in the max value manually the meter figures out what DCV range to use (if you were measuring DC voltage for example). It's the same deal for other measurements like resistance, AC Voltage, etc, just set to that measurement type and the meter figures out the correct max range. Most auto ranging meters below $99 have slow auto ranging acquisition speed (this is the time it takes for the meter to figure out what range to use). Many of the cheaper auto ranging meters take several seconds to figure out the correct range and then display the measurement. Not the $19 Equus 3320, it was just as fast as the Fluke 179, which is a second or less in the voltage measurements, and under 2 seconds for resistance (resistance auto ranging takes slightly longer on all meters because the meter must send a small amount of current across the device under test first before trying to acquire the range).

The battery test function (which my Fluke 179 does not have) is the main reason I purchased this meter. The battery test goes beyond just measuring the voltage of the battery any cheap meter can do that all day long. The battery test function in the 3320 puts the battery under a current load (10 Milli amps for both 1.5v and 9v batteries) and then measures the voltage. This gives you a much better idea of if the battery is really good or not and will really perform in your devices. Some batteries on a bare voltage test show good voltage, but that good voltage will quickly drop to unusable levels once the battery is put under load. So testing batteries with a meter that has a battery test function is far superior to just checking it's voltage. This feature alone makes the $19 price for this meter well worth it!

As a few other reviewers have said, it can only measure 200 Milli Amps of current in AC (whereas DC can measure up to 10 Amps). Most other multimeters can measure 10 amps of DC or AC current. So if you are looking to measure any substantial AC current this is the wrong meter. In fact for any current measurements I recommend a current clamp like the ExTech 623 or ExTech 380942 since you can clamp right over a live insulated wire (while the circuit is operating) and take your measurement. With any standard multimeter (like the 3320) you have to wire it in line with the circuit first (with the circuit powered off) and then you can take your measurement. But if you are looking for a compact, accurate multimeter for your garage or home (where you will not need AC current measurements) then look no further you cannot beat the accuracy, auto ranging speed, and the price of the Equus 3320.

I use expensive fluke DMMs all of the time at work and was going to buy one for home use when my Sears DMM (that was pretty much a piece of junk, couldn't auto range, and eventually wouldn't shutoff) started annoying me. So, I chose a $129 Fluke meter then happened upon this meter. I figured what the heck for $25 and decided to order it. If you need a home meter that AUTORANGES (this is a big deal) and works, you really can't go wrong with this product. The autoranging is great, VDC, VAC, & continuity have tested fine thus far and I think the leads are like any other DMM I have used. This is a killer deal for $25.00.

I received the Equus multimeter about a month ago. I've used it very frequently at home checking batteries, home appliances etc.. My conclusion is that the Equus Multimeter is worth every penny I paid for it. It is shock resistant, (I dropped it from a 4' stand and nothing happened to it). Is accurate, the auto power off feature is very useful. You don't need any more for home use.

I've owned scanners since the mid-'70s and this little beast is the finest one I've ever owned, hands down. It has more features than I'll ever use (or comprehend), but it's tidy, compact form factor, superlative audio, and superb built quality puts it in a class all its own.

If you decide to get one, please do yourself a huge favor and get a decent USB programming cable...yes, a serial cable comes packed with the rest of the goodies, but how many people have access to serial ports on their computers these days? Great Scanner you will need the following to program without frustration.

This is my first scanner and after 1 day I had all the counties in my state programmed. I went with police, sheriff, Fish and game, and state patrol only.

1. Order the car charger, also you will need a 9 pin male adapter with a usb port. The scanner comes with a 9 pin female adapter.

2. Order ARC-XT Basic Software. This is the software that makes programming much easier. It also has an online manual you can click for reference.

3. Equally important under the internet tab you will see the radioreference icon. Click that and order a 6 month subscription for roughly $9.00 create your user name and password and they also accept paypal. This internet site will work inconjunction with your ARC-XT software and allow you to click on your state or where ever your located and you simply scroll through the couinties, then click import, followed by copy to clip board, next you click the upper send icon which is a radio icon. This automatically sends all frequencies and names of the department to your scanner.

4. Lastly, and i blew this the first time dont forget to hit the save icon, and save as profile(i used my first name) this way all your county, state, federal, ect frequencies will be saved on the left side of your profile. At any time you can upload them all, or make changes to them. If you close the window after spending a good hour or two selecting all the frequencies from various counties they will not be saved. So dont make the mistake I did save save save your profile.

If you still have trouble look up scannermasters.com online, they have a live help chat, a remote access to your computer app, and if you prefer you can send your radio in and have them program it.

I bought the analog version last year this time, and enjoyed it for a month before I returned it. It was too much money for what it did. This year, I tried again, but stepped up to the digital version. This scanner picks up everything in my area (except my encrypted county). Once I added an external antenna, things came in loud and clear. It takes a LOT of practice. it is very complicated and your knowledge of radios will have to increase. After over a month, I am still practicing daily.

Anyway, its very well organized, picks up the signals well, and is easy on the batteries. Does exactly what its supposed to. Haven't found any bugs either. Finally, this year they have an actual manual. The website that tried to be a manual is horrible.

This scanner has helped me navigate traffic on the interstates many times. I won't send this one back. Eventhough I think its overpriced, I'll be keeping it.

!!PROS/CONS/TIPS below review!!

I've had the Uniden BCD396XT for a month or so and am still discovering new features daily. If you're anything like me, I had no understanding about scanners when I purchased this except that I knew I wanted a scanner that could scan analog, digital, and trunking systems. When I first turned it on and began playing with it I was a little overwhelmed by its lack of good documentation. I halfway expected a $400+ device to just start picking up stuff in my town out of the box but it turned out I just didn't understand the basics of how scanners worked. Now that I've had some time to play with it, I'm quite satisfied with its feature set and capabilities.

PROS:

Scans pretty much any non-encrypted source including CB/FM/AM/Trunking systems (digital and analog)

Portable (I can take it in my car, leave it on my desk, or carry it with me)

Advanced programming features (hook it up to your PC with FreeScan and program stuff quickly)

Battery life is good (I can leave it on for about 8 hours before the low battery warning comes on)

Comes with a set of rechargeable batteries (simply plug it in to charge them)

CONS:

Expensive!!

Average antenna (portable antennas like this don't pick up as much. However can be hooked up to a better one easily)

Steep learning curve (be ready to do some reading and keyboard smashing from getting frustrated)

TIPS/RESOURCES:

Get a USB -> Serial adapter like the Trendnet RS-232 (This will make your life much more enjoyable when programming from the PC)

Download FreeScan by SixSpot Software (free free free is good!)

Google "easier to read 396xt scanner manual" by marksscanners (puts things into simpler terms than the Uniden manual)

Check out radioreference.com for a free collection of frequencies for different agencies/public services in your areas (you can use the copy/paste function of FreeScan to import these into the app)

Set the Squelch low (noob mistake on my part. I had Squelch set too high and it was filtering out everything. I accidentally bumped it down and all of a sudden I heard things going on).

Great scanner for conventional and trunk systems. Love the digital readout better

than any scanner out there, very nice and large typeface.

If you've experience with programming software in the past should be no problem to use.

However with all things new, if you have not, there is a learning curve.

Beware, that if you are planning to use it for the newer P25 Simulcast systems the

audio and receives are very choppy and inaudible. Check the internet and radioreference.com

a lot of discussion on this subject and how scanner mfrs have not entirely solved this

problem. Listening to the Oakland Police and Fire P25 simulcast systems have been horrible.

Upgraded to the latest firmware, not much improvement.

This charger is incredible, most of these full chargers are dummy models that have at most a timer, if you're lucky. This has timer functions AND a fully automatic mode just like the small Schumacher smart chargers.

The 150 amp mode is well thought out not to destroy the charger and protect the user from themselves, here's how it works: You turn it to the 150A setting after hooking it to your vehicle as described. The charger will engage the 150A current once it detects the car turning over (voltage drop) and will continue to apply that current for 10 seconds (the display shows the count down). After the first application, the charger will do a 180 second count down to allow the unit to cool, and will then be ready for another application as needed.

All of this capability in a fairly lightweight, sub-100 dollar model? You can't ask for more than that in my opinion. This charger is awesome!

This charger works pretty well. The digital is great to have, the unit is lightweight, and the clamps seem durable.

The 150amp engine start mode will not start a car with a completely dead battery. It will only assist and start a car with a battery "just dead enough" to not work. It can be handy in a time of need however. The digital voltmeter is accurate, and nice to have when you don't want to get your multimeter out. It also is nice to see battery level represented as a percentage. I do wish it updated more frequently and sampled often however.

The unit also can have a tendency to overcharge small batteries if you hook them up on high charge rates. Example being a 26r group, a miata battery, lawnmower battery. Since it does not refresh frequently you will overcharge a small battery on 55a mode. This can be solved by pulling the clamps and re-seating.

It's impossible to short out and reverse clamp which is handy. The unit will not "spark" and charges a second or 2 after it detects the battery.

The sheet metal is very thin, and the edges are sharp. I recommend some auto store universal door molding on the edges to keep it from accidentally gouging your car.

If you remove the sheet metal and look inside the unit is 75% empty. It is very light and probably cased in a wheel around size just to prove it is made to compete with similarly sized analog units. There is a fan which can be quite loud when charging, and it seems like a small computer muffin fan type.

Assembly is fast, and packaging is well done.

Overall I am glad I went digital, I wish I opted for a 200a engine start unit, and I think the unit seems like it will serve me well for years to come. It isn't the best on the market, but it's the best I think I could have gotten for this price point. I like it and have charged MANY batteries so far in my garage.

I thought there would be more to this charger when I ordered it as in more functionality than a compact charger. However, this charger offers nothing more than what most of the more powerful compact chargers offer. All of the components in the cabinet of the SE-1555A could actually fit in a shoe box the cabinet is mostly empty space.

The 150 Amp start assist is slightly more than what is offered in most compact chargers but I have not been able to get the charger to deliver the assist as of yet. I am a military pilot by trade and it is common practice to use ground service equipment to power an engine start. This is done to greatly extend battery and starter motor life (for electrically started power plants) . I have used a Black and Decker compact charger with a 100 Amp boost for the past few years (on mornings I'm not in a rush), and it was useful in extending the life of my Die Hard battery. The B&D charger still works but I figured the start assist was not designed for every day use and therefore I bought the SE-1555A to take over the starting duties under the assumption the SE-1555A was more of a heavy duty charger capable of handling the daily abuse. However, this SE-1555A will not deliver the 150A (up to 150 Amp) starting boost unless it senses the battery is low and therefore it provides no starting utility if the battery is fully charged.

The overall construction of this starter is rather cheap as well. The fit and finish is poor what you might expect if it was built from scratch in a high school shop class (no offense to high school shop classes). The casing is cheap sheet metal with large seams, gaps, and the power transformer on the bottom of the unit was heavy enough to bend and distort the case during shipment. It is another example of a cheap product made under the name plate of a once reputable company. This unit was made in Mexico.

The product description states this charger has a battery and alternator tester. This is misleading as there is no separate diagnostic function to actually "test" a battery or alternator. The "test" procedures utilize nothing more than the voltage readout to determine if the battery/alternator are within a "normal" voltage range... they offer a very basic chart in the operating manual to help you 'determine' if the battery/alternator is "good". This is essentially useless beyond the most basic and simple "no kidding" the battery/alternator is well outside of a normal voltage range. Additionally, the voltage readout only reads actual voltage when the charger is not charging the battery. When the charger is actively charging the voltage readout displays "12" volts, and not what is actually being put out by the charger (which can go up to and over 16 volts according to Schumacher tech service I've seen as high as 15.83V using my multimeter).

A true battery and alternator diagnostic requires a load test which goes well beyond a simple voltage test. A bad battery and/or alternator can output the correct voltage, but will not support a normal load. The only way to truly determine if either are bad is to have a diagnostic load test accomplished. I have a group 51 battery sitting on my work bench right now that puts out 12.8 volts after sitting for a week but it will not start my easy to start Honda Civic VX (it will not hold a load). The SE-1555A was connected and apparently determined the battery only required a short charge cycle. After it showed the battery at 100%, the battery showed a voltage of 13.4V (well within the "good" range listed in the SE-1555A manual) but the battery would barely turn over my Civic two or three times and then would quit. I then hooked up the SE-1555A again and let it charge until it showed 100% (again)... it yielded the same results. I took the battery down to Auto Zone and they load tested it, and their true diagnostic test showed it was actually a bad battery. Long story short the battery/alternator "test" procedure is basically bunk on this charger.

Another issue with respect to the product description: The Schumacher customer service representative I spoke with stated it is not designed to charge AGM or gel batteries. This contradicts the product description on Amazon to which I brought to the attention of the Schumacher customer representative. She then informed me that I was mistaken and that the Amazon product description did not state it would charge AGM and Gel batteries... she repeated this to me as I was reading the product description directly to her from the Amazon page.

Overall, I am disappointed in this product. The $100 would have been better spent on a quality compact charger. I will be contacting Amazon to return the charger.

This batter performs well, never needs water, is about 10 pounds lighter than the stock battery, and was a breeze to install. I replaced the lead/acid battery on my BMW R1100RSL with this one. The install was about 20min. all the electrical connections were easy to make. This battery is smaller than the lead/acid type and most of the install time was spent cutting some of the supplied foam spacers to provide a custom fit in the battery holder. I have had no issues starting even down to temperatures in the teens. I also don't have to keep it on a battery tender all the time.

I've had this on my '04' R1150RT for 6 months now. I had purchased the suggested replacement that so many swear by, the Odyssey PC 680 battery but once delivered I was surprised how incredibly heavy it was in comparison to the BMW branded Exide gel battery.

With the additional bodywork, front fairing and huge fuel tank the RT series Oilheads are top heavy to begin with. Adding a few more pounds up high would only make this worse. That's when I decided I'm going to try the Shorai.

As another reviewer said, it's as if this is little more than an empty plastic box. It's size and weight is amazing. How will this ever start the mighty Boxer I don't know???

Well, 6 months now and never a problem. I have found if not on the Deltron/BMW "Smart charger" that it has a problem starting after 4-5 days, same as with the tired Exide battery but....keep in mind the battery has to keep the volatile memory settings in the Motronic engine controller, the clock on the Rider Info Display and I have my Garmin Quest GPS hot wired constantly to keep it charged. If it weren't for that, I think like others have said it would always start the bike.

My Garmin Quest GPS is an older unit with little choice available for a replacement internal battery. I learned if it is allowed to drop to a very low charge, it will not boot or work at all. The only way to resolve this is to keep it on the charger when not riding, hence the need to keep the bike on a charger. Off the charger for 3 days it will start, 4 days is 'iffy', 5 days it will not start.

The main advantage on the BMW's with the Shorai is you'll find the reduction in so much weight up high makes riding dramatically easier, a real plus in my mind.

Will it outlive conventional batteries?? We'll see. So far I'm quite pleased with it.

I purchased this item 1 year ago in April 2011 and it broke on me after a month of use. I recently came across this item in my junk drawer which reminded me to fill out a review for my purchase.

The plug end that goes into the iPod separated from the cable, exposing the wires and breaking off the solder leads to the plug. I really don't believe I was being rough with it at all; only used it at my computer desk. This cable is also extremely thin.

Alternately, the cable that came with the Belkin F8Z446 Micro Auto Charger with Charge Sync Cable for iPhone and iPod has been excellent, is hefty, and will take a beating in the hot car. Of course it cost more.

I bought this Jump starter in Dec. 2007 and to this day is working like a charm! What you must understand about this jumper is that it may or may not assist to start a bad battery (a battery that will no longer take a charge and you must replace). I say may or may not because it depends on the size of what you are jumping. Unfortunately all my cars are eight cylinder vehicles, so I am not that lucky. Until this winter, this jumper has NEVER failed to jump start my vehicles. This winter (2011), I did not drive my vehicle for over a month, with the temps in the low 20s, I tried to jump start my car only to have it fail. Well, this was a first so I took the battery out and brought it in to have it slow charged over night. In the morning, I discovered that the battery would not take a charge and was defective. So for those of you who think that this will jump start all cars, all the time NO but it will do what it was intended to do as long as the battery is not defective. I still feel that the Shummacher IP-1850 is a handy tool to have around. I highly recommend it.

I put this on charge immediately after I got it and left it there, as recommended. Last night, we got a winter storm and the power blinked several times. I got it and my power inverter at the ready, so I would be able to monitor the weather situation via laptop and Mifi.

The power never did go out, but it made me think that I should test this baby out before I really need it.

I got this primarily for camping and emergencies, for use with a separate 12-120 volt power inverter. Having the jumpstart feature only adds to the usefulness of the unit.

Lead acid batteries work best when kept fully charged...that's why the alternator in your car runs all the time. Plus, it ensures that the charger is always ready to go when you need it.

I hooked up the inverter and my laptop's power supply over an hour and a half ago, and the Schumacher is still ticking away without issues. Indicator shows half charge, but it went immediately to half charge after I plugged it in and started using power. We'll see how quickly the power drains, but so far it seems OK.

I also ponder whether or not it would be practical to plug my power inverter into the rear socket in my SUV, charge the device and leave the it there all the time on charge, so that it charged a little every time I drove the car. If that would work, the jump starter would always be with you, would always be charged, and would always be ready to use at a moment's notice.

***UPDATE***

Using a 400 watt inverter plugged into my car's cigarette lighter, I kept the Schumacher plugged in all winter in the back of my SUV. It charged every time I ran the truck. By the end of the winter, the power supply was still showing full charge. So, this method works beautifully to allow you to carry around a fully charged jump starter, ready to go at a moment's notice.

Be careful if you try this that you only use a socket that runs when the car is turned on...otherwise, you might have to use the jump starter sooner than you anticipated.

EDIT: 11/24/12 The prong on the plugin broke last month. Now, there's no way to charge it. Way too delicate to ride around in the back of a car or truck. Worthless!

Battery said it had F2 terminals, but it has F1 terminals. The whole reason I ordered it was because it said it had F2, but luckily I was able to make it work. Otherwise seems like a decent battery, and good deal. Be aware of the difference in battery terminal sizes though!

UPDATE: I contacted the seller, and they're going to send me 2 new batteries with the correct terminal sizes. Very impressed.

After digging around on the 'net for a battery to replace the dead one in my CyberPower 350 UPS, I decided to give this unit a shot. (I may have actually ordered a slightly different model [eg, 7aH instead of 8 or 9]).

The unit arrived quickly, and fit no problem. I charged the UPS for ~8 hrs and then tested it to see how long it would light a 60-watt lamp. The lamp stayed lit for at least 45 minutes (if memory serves), and that's certainly long enough for the UPS to keep my computer devices charged for a typical 5 minute power outage, I figure.

I've got a couple more UPSes with dead batteries and I'll be buying them from Chrome/UB.

I used these to replace the batteries in both of my APC Back-UPS ES-550's. Very inexpensive, compared to the battery that APC sells, more ampacity and the first one, on this computer system, has lasted several years already. The one for this review went into the UPS for the TV/DVR/cable box, just recently, and it works great, as well. I haven't found a better bargain to replace the batteries in my uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

I purchased this in hopes of running a 50 watt import gaming system. I was impressed with the price, after seeing my other best hope, a 40 Watt reverse converter from Radio Shack going for $40.

I was disappointed to find out that this item is only rated for up to 25 Watts for long term use the system would shut off after around 7 minutes.

If you're not running heavy duty gear, this is a nice item, but don't expect miracles.

The 220V plug doesn't fit to this. The plug barely touches the electrode, remaining unstable. Electrodes are too tight to accept the 220V plug. Once the plug touches the electrode inside, it works though.
