Its hard to tell from the picture but this charger only has a single charge port; the power wheels cars use two 6V batteries so it takes 36 hours to charge both batteries... really? You have no idea if its fully charged or charging at all since there is no indicator charging status light; it will charge it for infinity which will ruin the battery after a while. What would charging circuitry cost, like $0.50 to implement? fail.

SOLAR PANEL: This panel is very well made, reliable, and seems quite weatherproof. It puts out the full 5 watts in bright sunlight. I put some silicone caulk where the wire exits the back of the panel, just to be safe.

CHARGE CONTROLLER: The housing is definitely not weatherproof, but it does work properly. Some reviewers reported rusted connectors. Mine arrived without any rust. I created a battery box for an electric fence. The solar panel is mounted on top of the box, and the solar charge controller is inside the box with the battery and the fence energizer (protected from weather).

Don't use it with a large panel (as one reviewer did), because it's only designed to take a small current. It is rated for only 3 amps. 3 amps x 12 volts = 36 watts. So ... don't hook up more than 36 watts of 12-volt solar panels to this charger.

Another reviewer said the charger allows the battery to discharge into the solar panel at night. That's not really true. I did many tests and figured out what is going on. There is a green "Power" LED light on the charge controller. That light is on whenever it is connected to the battery. That light draws about 5 milli-amps from the battery at night, which is negligible. During the day, the solar panel powers the green LED.

So ... when the solar panel gets no power from the sun, electricity flows from the battery to the green LED. But that is the only draw on the battery. I tested it, and there is no current flowing into the solar panel from the battery. The 5 milli-amp draw is minimal, and really has no effect on the battery at all. Consider that during bright sunlight, the panel pours about 400+ milli-amps into the battery. Even that amount is just considered a "trickle" charge.

I put a blocking diode (1N4001) between the battery and the charge controller, which even blocks the 5 milli-amp discharge at night. Now the green "Power" light only comes on when the panel gets light.

I also verified that the charge controller stops charging the batter when it reaches about 13 volts. That protects the battery from being over-charged.

This solar panel combo is a solar panel plus a charge controller plus clamps all preassembled and ready to go. Set it out in the sun, attach the clamps to a meter, and you should get what I got 20V at .3 amps. My panel came in good condition inside a solid cardboard box within another box. Your mileage may vary. I am pleased with the construction overall, but it does not look overly rugged. You won't want to casually toss it around too much, but it should mount nicely to a solid surface. The aluminum frame has mounting holes on the back, but the clearance is very limited.

I have a Brunton foldable solar panel that cost ten times as much and only puts out 3 times the amps (same voltage).

I will be buying a larger Instapark product in the future. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

This is a pretty good little solar panel. I bout this to keep the battery on my camper topped off while not being used.

The Good: Panel performs as expected. In full bright sun I measured around 350mA at about 20V (7 Watts!) The size is nice and small (about the size of a sheet of paper) as compared to the amorphous panels which are much larger for the same wattage. The cable from the panel's junction box to the charge controller is nice and long.

Th Not So Good: The cover for the junction box on the back doesn't quite seal all the way around on mine. I put a small bead of caulk around it. Also the charge controller does NOT appear weatherproof. As a matter of fact it has a USB port on the side of it that is not sealed. My solution was to encase it in a weatherproof electrical box and run the wires out from there. Also, the clamps are small. Finally, the thickness of the frame is very small which makes mounting with the moutning holes challenging.

Overall though, I like this panel and would buy it again.

Appears to be very well made and a good value for the price except for the clamps. The clamps are too small for the products intended use and tinny. I easily destroyed one of the clamps when trying to grip the 12v battery pole. I cut the original clamps off and replaced them with the appropriate clamps I purchased at Radio Shack.

Solar panel looks great, except its the wrong one (2 oval solar tabs vs the rectangular tabs displayed in the picture). The back of the housing says 22V instead of 12V . I'll test out the amps as soon as I get a new fuse for my multimeter to see if its actually putting out 5 watts.

The charge controller on the other hand, obviously came overseas from China by boat. The small Ziploc bag it came in had a substantial amount of rust in it. The 6 terminals on the controller are completely rusted, and reduced the voltage from 11.3V to 2.1V after connecting it. I'll need to do some serious cleaning to get the rust off and see if its salvageable, but I would suggest ordering the panel without the charge controller, its not worth the $12 price difference.

Edit: I spent about 30 minutes cleaning the terminals (Put them over the tip of some pliers and scraped the rust off with a box cutter). Im now getting 21.5 volts straight from the panel, and 20.0 after connected to the charge controller. I talked to our electrical engineer at work and found out solar panels dont put out any amps on their own ("You need resistance to have amps"), but after connecting the panel to a battery, I was getting 20V at .19 amps, or 3.8 watts. He also said if the controller is doing its job, the 22V panel shouldnt fry the 12V battery during charging.

I purchased this product (Cobra Electronics Walkie-Talkie CXT235 Two-Way Radio) during an Amazon Lightning Deal. Previously I already have a pair of very basic walkie talkies (Motorola FV300 2-Way Radio), but I consider the CXT235 a 'step-up' due to its advertised features, namely:

Longer range of 'Up to 20 miles'

'Privacy Codes'

Rechargeable batteries and charger included

My initial impression of the CXT235 was quite positive. The control buttons are fairly simple to use. The LCD panel is back-lighted and easy to read. The 'Privacy Code' feature seems to work well. However, there are several marketing hypes and deficiencies that I need to point out:

1. Like all walkie talkies, the advertised range of 'Up to 20 miles' is highly inflated. This number is only possible under optimal test conditions (transmitting from one hilltop to another with clear line-of-sight, perfect weather, no RF interference, etc). In an urban environment with obtrusions and interferences, you're lucky to get up to 2 miles in range.

2. The so-called 'Privacy Code' does NOT prevent others from listening in to your conversation. Instead, it prevents you from receiving unwanted transmission from other people. Let's say your group is using channel 11 with privacy code set to 22. You will not hear any transmission on channel 11 unless it is preceded by the correct privacy code. But anybody listening in to channel 11 without using privacy code can hear everything you transmit.

3. The included NiMH rechargeable AAA batteries have very low capacity of just 300mAh. Based on my measured power consumption (see Footnotes), this is barely enough to sustain 1-2 hours of operation if you do a lot of transmission. To extend the runtime, I need to replace those batteries with higher-capacity versions, such as Sanyo eneloop or Tenergy Centura (800mAh).

4. While the walkie talkies are plugged in to the AC recharger, you can turn them on but they are unable to receive any calls. That means you cannot leave them in standby mode while being recharged.

Bottom Line:

Despite the above limitations, I consider the Cobra CXT235 a good value at the Lightning Deal price I paid. An added bonus for me is that this product can be used to communicate with my old Motorola FV300 as long as all walkie talkies are set to the same channel, and privacy code is NOT set on the CXT235.

[Footnotes on Power Consumption]

When first turned on, the unit consumes around 60mA in standby mode.

After 10 seconds of inactivity, it goes into 'Power Saver' mode which reduces the average input current to around 20mA

While receiving calls, the units consumes around 100mA (depending on volume)

While transmitting in low power (channel 8-14), it consumes ~250mA

While transmitting in high power (Channel 1-7, 15-22), it consumes ~300mA

The AC adapter's charging current is around 30mA. That means it takes about 12 hours to recharge the included 300mAh batteries.

[Update on June 30, 2013]

I can use higher-capacity rechargeable batteries in the Cobra walkie-talkies, but the AC adapter does NOT recharge the new batteries. It turns out that there is an extra contact in the battery compartment used for recharging. So it only works when using the included Cobra batteries with exposed metal near negative terminal. We use these to talk around our 17 acre farm and while kayaking, hiking, and hunting, Two miles away and hilly we were still able to talk. Much farther than that was not so good. Line of sight with no obstructions would probably be better. We love them and have two sets so the kids can keep in touch too. Upgrade to better batterys for more talk time. We use 800mAh rechargeables.

I purchased the Shorai LFX for a 1990 Honda GB500 since the old water battery had died. The Shorai weighs about two pounds and does not require having to have a battery trickle-charger attached. I use the bike rarely (a fairly rare restored bike). The battery's dimensions were the same as the original battery and it slipped into the battery box with no problems.

Expensive? Yes, but the convenience of having a sealed battery that never needs water, not having to have it attached to a trickle charger, and the knowledge that it will go long periods without charging, plus its light weight and greater cranking power made it worth the extra money.

The Shorai company states that their battery charger is the only one that can be used. Wrong! Battery Tender circuitry is also compatible with the Shorai. But....I bought and installed the battery six months ago, have ridden the bike only a few times during that period and have had no need to keep it on a trickle charger. The bike has started right up with no hesitation.

My conclusion: a great product; I recommend it.

The picture on Amazon site is not correct. This battery monitor shows the voltage value with .01 precision (or two digits after decimal point). That is far more then enought to tell the battery status. I put it in the car, it automatically switches between "battery status monitoring" and "charging status monitoring". When the engine is stopped, it is in "battery status monitoring mode", when engine is running, it will be in "charging status monitoring" mode. Amazon's price is even bettern then Walmart. Definitely a great value buy. Will recommend this item to my friends.

Seemingly just another auto gadget fortunately the Equus 3721 is more sophisticated than its ponderous description. A breeze to connect to any car's 12 Volt electrical system. Simply push into the lighter socket or an auxiliary power outlet now found in many newer vehicles.

With the engine running the instrument constantly displays battery condition with an LED light; amber when marginal, red if the battery is discharging. A green light indicates a correctly functioning electrical system. All is well with both battery and, most importantly, the alternator.

The Equus is also an accurate voltmeter. Digital read-outs give exact voltage in the electrical system. Potential alternator problems or a failing battery will be indicated by below normal voltages, plus an amber or red light. Extra information is a battery icon graphically showing total battery charge. Tending towards erratic read-outs, and therefore unreliability, it is not the unit's best feature.

Equus's instruction card is easy to understand. The unit is well made, sturdy, easy to connect and to transfer to any 12 volt system not having its own voltmeter. Also, as a supplemental monitor in an RV, or a bigger boat with a remote 12 Volt outlet in a sleeping area far from the main instrument panel, overall battery condition condition can be monitored while camping or at anchor.

Good value for money; very useful. From personal use, recommended.

The Honda 2005 civic has a marginal charging system. This meter is ideal for determining when it is time to turn off the radio to reduce load on the alternator. Voltage reading is very accurate, much better than 1% as measured against a small Beckman pocket meter, which in turn has been checked against a Powerex Wizard aa cell charger. Warning lights function well.

Some things to note when using this tester: Standard voltage of a 12 volt battery is 12.6 volts. Some deep cycle absorbed glass mat batteries will read 12.8. This is after loading the battery by turning on the headlights for 10 seconds, to remove surface charge. Note that while the lights are on, the voltage drops quickly at first, then the voltage stabilizes. Turning off the lights causes the voltage to rise again gradually. After a few minutes the voltage will stop rising. If the voltage settles at 12.6 (or 12.8 for AGM battery) battery is charged, assuming that the battery is near 68 degrees F. Lower temps raise the voltage, higher temps lower the voltage. For a standard battery figure about 12.66 volts at 32 F and 12.54 volts at 104 F battery temperature, not air temperature.

After a car has been running for awhile with no lights, radio, wipers, AC, heat or window defroster, the alternator may cycle letting the battery voltage drop for a while before kicking in. This is OK provided the charging is steady shortly after turning on the lights. An intermittant alternator will cause the red light to turn on and off when headlights are on.

The bar graph for battery condition is not very useful as the meter has only voltage information.

The instructions do not state that this tester is for negative ground cars only, a small quibble as positive ground is not common.

Had I bought this device six months ago I could have avoided killing a brand new battery in six months.

I purchasted this unit to use in a small aircraft that has no built in battery monitor.

The unit failed within one hour of use.

It was too cheap to bother to send back so I took it apart.

I found two loose screws holding the circuit board and display in place and a bad solder joint.

I repaired the solder joint and tightened the screws and the unit has been working fine ever since.

Unless you are an Electronic Engineer like me I would not recomend this unit.

Strangely enough, the internal components appeared to be high guality.

It was not assembled correctly.

It's OK if it works.

It's advertised as SAMSUNG OEM.. The one I got is not and came with a weird peel away cover that goes over the LED-light.. it doesnt stay on so the LED-light is exposed along with the inside wiring.. very odd.. It also has an attached USB port on the top-next to the LED light. I have not tried if that connection works.

I've found that the connection to my charger port is not perfect, it sometimes looses connection if the phone is moved whatsoever. However, if I just put the phone down (shouldnt drive and be on phone anyway) it stays connected and works fine.

For the price, this is just fine, but SAMSUNG OEM it's not, the quality build is not the same

First off, let me say that this company has it right with sourcing great materials. Like using high grade mono crystalline solar panels and then having a nice non scratch/anti reflective coating.(this is a huge help when getting it to pick up even low levels of light)

Then it has a 2000 maH lithium ion battery on board that can charge my phone (which has a 1000mah battery) in the same time it takes a wall outlet. The time it normally takes from the wall is around an hour or so give or take 30 min.

For portability, it is the size of a 7" tablet or a paperback novel, so it is the smallest and most powerful charger to date for its size . This is due to using efficient materials and a methodology of keeping it simple.

User note: It has a lithium ion battery on board. So when it is a 100F out you need to cover the battery so it will not swell and blow up, or just fold the flap behind the panels.

If there is no sunlight, you still have the ability to charge the on board battery using a nokia charger that has a very thin barrel type connection. There is a rubber seal that peels off the usb and charger port to ensure it is protected from the elements. It is not water proof(submerge it in water), but it is water resistant(a light rain) and this is an awesome feature.

It has eye loops on each corner to strap this to a backpack or whatever you want to make your mobile charging platform. It is very light, robust and is half the price of similar brunton and sunlinq products(who use the lowest grade materials ie amorphous or polycrystalline solar panels). Mono-crystalline is the absolute best. Then there is nasa stuff, which is gallium Nitride, but me and you can not afford that stuff.

There is a charge indicator led on the battery pack to show the user if the battery is below 80%(Solid red LED will show) or above 80%(Solid green LED will show).

To ensure maximum life expectancy, the user should charge this manually using the nokia style charger for at least four hours. I did it over night as i do not want to sit and wait for it to be done. Then go ahead and use it as you would normally. This is not vital but will ensure you get a good base charge.

I live in Arizona so the charging results may vary slightly. As for performance, I made sure the device was completely dead by charging my phone and other usb devices. It took under 2 hours to fully charge the battery(from red led to green led)

My quick checklist:

1) High efficiency mono crystalline solar panels CHECK!

2) 2000maH battery ( twice the size of my phones current battery) CHECK!

3) Materials and workmanship is of the best CHECK!

4) If there is no sunlight, there is a backup method of charging CHECK!

5) It actually charges the on board battery and the external usb device at the same time(while exposed to the sun) CHECK! (Note: do not have your phone out in direct sunlight as it will ruin it if it is a 100F out and above)

This will fit into a purse or a glove box to ensure that you will always have a usb reserve to keep your vital electronics up and running and having to no longer rely on the wall plug(a wall wart).

Another main reason I chose this product is that I had purchased their larger 10W panel setup and love it. It is the bigger version of this and has no battery on board, two usb ports and is three times this size. To sum it up, the main reason I love this device is that this tool actually does what it supposed to and then some!. I would recommend this to family and friends and I feel that every dollar was well spent, even in this economy.

Very Important:

1) To ensure a quicker charge, make sure the solar panels are exposed to direct sunlight. For example: if the sun is directly above you at noon, lay the panel flat on the ground. This is perpendicular to the sun and means the best charging conditions.

2) Make sure it does not get exposed to anything hotter than 140F as the lithium battery will explode, just like your phone.

3)Wipe off the panels lightly to get the dust off before you fold it up again to further eliminate scratches.

4) Buy the bestek usb cable kit for like $6 on here to ensure you have all the right connections to charge this device or charge any device off this.
