I really like the retractable phone car charger in comparison to the phonecord car chargers. I have had both styles and the retractable style doesn't get in the way around the console or the gearshift, if it is between the seats. The retractable charger also doesn't get stretched out with use and then gets more in the way. It comes out almost to the point that you can talk on the phone while being plugged in, depending on where your charger port is and mine is on the lower part of the console, to the right side. This charger also isn't a string type, it is more like a rubber, I have had retractable chargers in the past that were like a string or yarn so I guess I would be careful as to how far you pulled on it but for the price as compared to buying in the big box stores it is worth it.

Yes, this IS a 3500/4000 watt generator. The description is correct, don't be thrown off by the photo that shows a 3000/3500 watt generator. If you order this, you will receive a 3500/4000 watt generator that otherwise looks exactly like the one in the photo.

I received mine today. Took about 30 minutes to unbox, install wheels and handle, hook up the battery, add oil, add gas, and press the start button. Started right up. Runs quieter than most lawn mowers, which was a welcome relief from the last (old) generator I had that sounded like a battle tank. This Champion 4000 has a nice big muffler, the size of a half gallon milk carton, unlike snow blowers and lawn mowers. No, it's not whisper quiet, but it compares favorably to the average lawn mower, in my estimation.

Seems to be well put together, and the electric start/remote features are great. It does have a pull starter for backup, and even the pull start is relatively easy. But I got this for my 75-yr-old mother, who doesn't quite have the arm strength for the pull start. So she can just press the electric start button (or use the remote start fob).

It also has a digital readout that shows (1) output voltage (mine is running at 125V), (2) cycles per second (mine is running at 63 Hertz), and (3) hours.

So far, I'm impressed.

PS--engine oil is NOT included. You'll need one quart of 10W-30.

PPS--If you really need the electric start to work a year or two from now when your power goes out, I also recommend buying a Battery Tender Junior 12 volt battery charger to keep the battery charge topped up. You can connect the Battery Tender to the generator battery and keep it plugged into a wall outlet in your garage year-round. The Battery Tender will keep the generator battery topped off, and will shut itself off without over-charging the battery and frying it. You cannot do this with a regular car battery charger, which will keep charging the battery and will eventually fry it.

10/29/12 Update: I just pulled the generator out of 12 month's storage to get ready for Hurricane Sandy. After filling with gas and cranking repeatedly with the electric starter, it wouldn't start. I finally removed the air filter cover, removed the foam filter element, and sprayed starter fluid into the carb, and it started right up. So if your generator won't start after a long storage, try this trick.

Based on excellent reviews and the exact features I wanted, I ordered this model. I arrived within 2 days. When I opened the box, I found that the motor mount was completely broken. It's that silver die cast thing that attaches the motor to the frame.

This is when I discovered that this item is not eligible for the return. I followed the instructions and contacted the seller: Generators-Plus. They told me they do not accept returns nor do they replace the unit. They can either ship the part to me or to the authorized repair shop. The nearest repair shop for me is at least 1hr drive, not to mention that this is over 120LB unit and I'm not a bodybuilder. They told me to contact Amazon for replacement. Called Amazon and they told me they have nothing to do with it because the item left the warehouse in a good condition. They told me to first try and repair it and then if I can't they would see what they could do.

I told them I would try, but I said, I was still not happy with how this is handled, seems the customer's interest are the least of their priorities. I said I would reflect it in the review, which is what I'm doing now.

And then she really disappointed me, she said: that would be perfectly fine, good bye, and hung up on me.

I hope I will be able to repair it and I will post the update. Regardless of the outcome, this is not a good service.

Bought this for $359 a steal. Got the last one in stock before Hurricane Irene. Easy to set up, easy starting. Quieter than I thought. Lost power on Sunday August 28th. Ran the generator continuously from Sunday through Tuesday until power was restored. I did change the oil at 5 hours as suggested. Absolutely no problems a real lifesaver. Never used the pull start. The electric start worked great. Automatic choke; no fiddling required. Best investment I have made in a long time!

I just recieved my champion generator and so far I am very happy with this purchase. I ordered it standard shipping on a Tues. and it arrived on the following Monday. The box was in great shape no dents or holes. The wheel kit had to be assembled and you have to put oil in it before you start it no big deal. It is delivered with the battery and remote start. Once i put the oil in and added gas I tried the electric remote start and it started right up first try. I was supprised how quiet it ran without allot of vibration quiter then some of the other generators I have seen. I only ran it for about a half hour or so but so far I would definitely recomend this genetor.

While the generator was delivered promptly and was easily assembled, the engine refused to start. It cranked over fine, but would not run. I verified the oil level, tested the spark capability, and engine compression. No problem found with any of these items.

That suggested a fuel problem. I found the engine would only start after I injected a small amount of fuel into the cylinder, or carburetor air intake. Of course this is not normal practice, and should not be required. This suggests this unit has a fuel priming problem.

I've tried to call Champion tech. support, but have not yet gotten through or had my voice mail contact message returned. The literature that comes with the item states they have a 24 hour technical support line, but that is only for emergencies (not sure what constitutes an emergency). The normal Tech Support 877 number is open M-F at 0830 (PST). My call at 0845 was met buy an "all technicians are busy" message and a 37 minute wait time... Needless to say so far I'm not impressed by this "support"...

1/13/2012: The generator has come back from the repair shop. Although the carburetor was replaced, the Tech believes the problem was more the result of a weak battery effect on the choke stepper motor. He feels that the stepper motor does not operate properly when the battery has less than a full charge. Right now the unit will start without "fuel injection" into the air intake. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts that way.

Still, this unit (a new model for 2011) is quite a value even with this little 'glitch'.

Too many other chargers were listed as Evo/Evo Shift chargers. Which cannot be true. My phones charging port seems to function intermittently. I needed to be able to charge the spare battery outside of the phone. This base does that well and also when my phone is repaired will make an excellent charger stand.

This is one of the easiest cradles for the HTC Evo Shift that I have used. Sometimes cradles are hard to line up with the charging port, and you really feel like your breaking your phone trying to get a connection. NONE of that with this cradle! Set the phone in, add a tiny bit of pressure, check for the light on the phone and done! Couldn't be happier with it.

Arrived bubble wrapped in a small priority shipping box; not a retail package. This is a 1 piece unit, no accessories and a single half sheet of instructions. No loose parts to worry about, the plug is permanently attached and plugs directly into cig adapter. I like the compact size and feel of this unit. The cord is about the right length for me, there is 22" of wire between the plug and the unit. It'll reach the passenger seat just fine from the console. Mine works and produces modified AC power which runs my gadgets nicely (chargers: both USB and AC wall warts). The included USB ports are a bonus. My biggest disappointment is that the fan remains on continuously. This means I'll only be able to use it in situations where the car is running. I had hoped the fan would only turn on when it needed to cool down.

Due to the inefficiencies of a continuous fan, this unit is not a reasonable choice in an off grid battery situation. It is fine in a running car. I bought this unit hoping I could use it in a camping kit but it would quickly drain my solar charged portable battery system (only 9Ah). I'm going to keep it, but it's less useful than I had hoped. I won't be unable to leave this unit turned on when I'm away from the car or it'll drain the car battery, which is unacceptable.

The sales info says "Temperature controlled cooling fan" which tells me the fan should not be on unless it needs to cool the unit. I've contacted the seller to see how we'll resolve this. Perhaps I have a bad unit? *** Update from seller, this unit is working as designed ***

3 stars for delivering the power and having a USB port, but not more due to the noise and waste of energy a full time cooling fan causes. If the fan only went on as needed this would be a nice 5 star Inverter.

*** Update ***

Contacted seller, after a couple of email exchanges it was determined that this unit will keep the fan on at all times. While the unit differs from how I understood the listing, it's not worth my time to send it back. When I ordered mine, 1/3rd of the price was paid in shipping fees, so I'll keep this unit as an in-car unit and look to find something else that will be more efficient in a solar/battery based system.

If your intended use is in a car, the fan is most likely not a problem. You can also check to see if your Cig adapter shuts off when you turn off your keys, then it's even less of an issue as it won't drain your batteries when you leave your car. I have a Cig adapter in the trunk I use to power/charge things on trips and when traveling, mine turns off with the key so I can use this in the car without worry.

Mine continues to work well and has survived weeks in my trunk in the hot AZ sun.

I purchased this adapter for my cross country road trip and it has been so useful! We frequently camp and the adapter is perfect for charging phones and cameras. Overall I can recommend as long as you understand what you are getting. A nice little inverter for the money. The things that might surprise you is the little cooling fan never turns off. Not a super big deal but it does draw a little under half an amp just to run the units cooling fan. Having two USB ports was why I bought it. Watch the video and you will see more about power draw.

We bought this charger after debating whether we should or not because of some of the mixed reviews. We decided to give it a try and are so disappointed we did.

Initially the charger worked, and just recently while on a trip it broke. The little green light does not work when we plug it into the car, and it does not seem to be a fuse with our car since the cell phone chargers are working fine in the car lighter. The super bummer is that it only lasted 45 days...long enough to pass the 30 day return window and yet not long enough to get us through our family vacation.

That said, I am emailing the company because the charger has a lifetime warranty and so far they have responded to my email stating that I should check he fuse in the car. It's not a issue with the car, so I am hoping to either get the charger replaced or refunded. A replacement or refund does not change the fact that we were on vacation with our family and lost because we couldn't use our GPS. Save yourself some trouble and buy another charger.

UPDATE:

The company has very promptly answered my emails and concerns and has shipped me a replacement charger. I misunderstood the original email they sent thinking their customer service was asking me to check the fuse in my car, but they were asking me to check the fuse in the charger. Even before I could check the charger fuse they company sent me a new charger. They were easy to contact and willing to send a replacement charger. I have changed my original rating from one star to 4 since they are honoring the warranty and keeping things simple. Things break so for me, customer service is key in purchasing products.

Worked great for 6months, then lost current. Wouldn't turn the starter over with out putting it on charge. Got progressively worse. Bought a battery tester and the battery failed the test.

NOTE-

Amazon doesnt allow returns for Car battery's so i guess i have to eat $100+. I realize you do get a bad batch, but not being able to return is what warrants the low review.

There are times when you really can't get to a wall outlet, or purchase batteries from a store, if you have rechargeables, I recommend SANYO eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries, then this adapter can be a life saver.

Very good quality battery. Charges well, maintains charge as expected. Once you remove the nylon, factory straps that hold the original batteries in form inside the nylon battery bag, you'll discover that you need to save the original wiring harness. This wiring harness removal (for re-use) can be a tedious operation, as all contact ends have been stamped onto the ends with significant force. Take your time on the bench, use needle-nose and small flat-tipped screw driver (or similar tools) and carefully remove the original harness; then re-use.

Option B is to re-order a new wiring harness (which I did on two of my scooters) which is much easier, guarantees no damage, and isn't very expensive (less than twelve dollars).

This battery replacement process will save you about fifty bucks. Easy process, particularly if you simply purchase a new wiring harness and call it a day.

I don't own these batteries, but I will tell you, NEVER charge them with a regular car charger..if these are glass mat (I didn't look) you will burn them up pretty fast with an auto charger..use the exact charger that came with the device that you bought..maybe you'll get lucky...remember MADE IN CHINA.

Perfect fit with excellent protection for the phone. I removed the clear plastic that covers the screen so I could use it without opening the case. Even without the clear cover it protects the phone exceptionally well. This is the second case like this that I buy, I had one for my 8525 also with excellent results. I bent the latch slightly to make it close more tightly and avoid unintentionally opening the case.
