I don't use the cell phone much. Guess I don't feel the need to be part of the "hive mind" that just has to be in constant communication with others.

Used this charging device twice and both times the cell phone's battery was quickly charged and fully functional.

I used the phone's on-screen info to determine when the battery within was fully charged. Did not even peek at the read-out on the charger itself. Probably should have but am getting old and lazy and rather cantankerous and trending towards yelling at kids to "Get off my lawn" but refrain from doing so since those young whippersnappers just ain't respectful of us old codgers anymore and may even run up and poke me in the nose or sumpthin' and make me cry and bleed and it just ain't worth it.

Oh. The device seems to work. If it dies a natural death (not from being stepped upon, etc) I will return (if I am still alive and kicking) and tell of the unit's demise.

For the record... bought the thingy around six months ago or so. Last used a couple months ago. It's been hiding out in the truck's glove box (anybody ever keep gloves in there?) awaiting the need to power up the phone's famished battery.

Hmmmm.. suppose I should mention build quality. Not bad for el cheapo plastic. With reasonable care it should last awhile unless its innards go bad on their own. For the price I consider it a decent deal.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program You might say my iphone 3GS is my 5th appendage. I love apps and games, which leads my battery to go poof! in no time, so this is just what I needed. I'm racing around outside a lot, so I can't just use my car charger. I can drop this in my coat pocket and have it as an easy backup. It also charges my ipod 80gb classic, though for the most part that battery lasts forever, so I won't need it for that as much.

Out of the box, you dock your iphone into the jumpstart, and if needed, right into your computer USB. itunes pops up with no prompting just like if I were plugging in straight from the iphone. It's fairly light and will be a great thing to throw in my purse or car for a trip where you'd have trouble getting to an outlet or computer for a charge.

It's flexible so it will easily fit around your case and also doesn't get in the way of your camera. I use a cellet flexi skin(a silicone plastic mix)iphone case and it suctions on no problem. There's a little button on the back of the jumpstart which will light up a small LED light on top(blue or red) to indicate whether you need to charge it. When it's charging, it stays illuminated to show you if it's done.

I've found myself using the jumpstart now 100% of the time to charge my iphone, and it's so much better then having it teethered with the white apple cord to my computer.

The only downside: I would have appreciated a tiny little instruction sheet and there wasn't anything in the box. But for the most part, it's a common sense item and easy to figure out without any manual. Definitely a great, easy to use iphone accessory.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The JumpStart Power Charger sort of does what it advertises but not quite. Using it with an iPhone it would charge in about 2 hours but only to about 50% capacity. It's not bad getting 50% more life out of an iPhone but that doesn't `double' your battery capacity. The unit is quite small and fits in snuggly but the suction cups don't work as well as would be expected and don't work at all if your phone has a skin on it. Perhaps a better design would have been to have it somehow clamp onto the sides of the iPhone. When the suction cups don't stick the battery just flops around particularly if you're trying to charge it and use it at the same time. It's light enough to fit in a purse but it might not be as convenient for men. It is nice to have on a trip when you might go long periods of time without a charger but the basic design could perhaps use some tweaking.

Advantage with the iPod touch:

The iPod touch has the unfortunate feature of having the headphone jack at the bottom of the unit, right next to the universal dock plugin. I searched for so many batter packs, but the majority cover up the entire bottom of the unit, making the headphone jack inaccessible. Of the ones I did find that fit, they connected to the iPod via a short cable, and weren't physically attached to the unit. This suction-cupped based battery pack hangs on tight to the unit, and I don't worry about accidentally pulling it out.

General usage:

Pros:

-Great for travelingOn long plane rides where movies & apps would drain my battery in a few hours, this pack at least doubles, if not triples the length I can use it. The external battery drains first. The iPod battery icon is marked as 'charging' (or 'plugged in', with a full charge) and once the battery pack is drained, the normal diminishing battery icon shows.

-Battery charger is USB, connects to computer or USB wall outlet adapter. When the iPod is attached to the battery, they both charge. When connected to a computer, it behaves identically to the apple white cord iTunes opens and it syncs. When I travel I only bring my computer, USB cable, battery, and iPod, and that's all I need for charging and syncing.

-Rubber covering feels very strong. It's one solid piece, and there is NOTHING flimsy about it. 10 points for the build.

Cons:

-The suction cups held really well for the first few days. Now, the battery tends to not hold as well. It has never fully popped off, but it slides around somewhat. Maybe it would help if I washed the suctions

-The battery indicator light is complicated, and I still haven't figured out exactly what the lights indicate. I've figured out red is 'charging' and blue is 'discharging' but when you press the button, it flashes red and/or blue and i have no clue what it means. Couldn't quickly find details about it online...

-Charger is USB series A on one side (standard 'computer' size) and Micro-USB on the other. I wish it had the same plug as the apple universal adapter, so it wouldn't require keeping around yet another cable.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I use quite a few applications on my iPhone, which tends to drain its power rather quickly. That's why I was excited to try out this external battery pack that extends the life of my phone by a full charge. It works very well. You plug it into the USB port of any computer, using the cable that comes with the device. After about an hour the unit will be fully charged, which is indicated by a red light on the top.

When your phone battery runs down, you just slide the Jump Start's connector into the bottom of the iPhone, just as you would do if you were charging the phone with its regular cable. The Jump Start has little suction cups that are supposed to hold the unit to the back of the phone so that you can use the phone while it's charging. Unfortunately, I didn't find the suction sufficient to hold the unit on the phone, but that may have been because I have a hard case on the phone that has little ridges along the back.

But here's the really cool part: Once you plug the Jump Start into the iPhone the unit transfers its charge to the phone's internal battery, so you only have to leave the Jump Start on the phone long enough for the charge to be transferred. In about 30 minutes the Jump Start is drained and your iPhone battery is fully charged.

Overall, I give this product 5 stars because it's convenient, light weight, reasonably priced and does what it promises.

With the extensive use of iPhone as a phone, mp3 player,news reader, gaming, etc. the need for extra battery life is really valid. It is the first time I found a very useful battery charger for iPhone.

Charging capacity: It provides one full battery charge for iPhone 3G.

iPhone Charging Time: About 3 hours for a full charge. Does not provide instant charging. However, if you are running on less than 10% charge, it will keep the phone running for as long as the one full battery will. (you can keep the phone charging while using it at the same time)

Jumpstarter Charging Time: About 4 hrs when connected to either direct power supply or through the USB port of a computer. There is a LED light on the top which

turns blue (from red) when it is fully charged.

Design: It looks very cool and sticks to the back of the iPhone through its rubber suction cups. It is very convenient to use while talking, using apps, or leaving it on the table.

Potential Issues:

There are no directions or anything in the box. Just use & learn yourself. Not a big deal as it is very simple to use.

The charging cable has USB connector only. If you have any cellphone with the wall charger and USB port on other side, you can use that as well. I have left my iPhone wall charger at home and keep this JumpStarter in my laptop bag always.

This package includes two new Rayovac "Hybrid" rechargeable NiMH AA cells, plus a simple charger. Similar to the Sanyo "eneloop", the Hybrid is also advertised to have low self-discharge rate, but not as low as that for eneloop. The eneloop is supposed to retain 85% charge in 12 months (when stored at 20 degree C), whereas the Hybrid is supposed to retain 80% charge in 6 months (no mention of temperature).

On the other hand, the capacity for the Hybrid is rated at 2100mAh, which is slightly higher than that for the eneloop (2000mAh). I have tested both brands and can confirm that both ratings are accurate. In actual applications, the difference in performances between Hybrid and eneloop cells is probably negligible. So it all comes down to price. Unfortuantely, this Hybrid package offered here is just not a good value compared to similar eneloop packages.

The charger included here is a timer-based dumb charger. It forces you to charge cells in pairs (either 2 or 4), and it does not know whether the cells are fully charged. It simply charges at around 350mA for 8 hours and turns off (obviously it was designed for 2500-2700mAh batteries, because 350mA*8hr=2800mAh). In contrast, the chargers included in eneloop packages are "smart", in the sense that they charge cells individually, and stop whenever each cell is full.

Unless prices for the Rayovac Hybrid batteries come down significantly, I'll say stay with the Sanyo eneloop.

The price of this item has came down significantly since I first wrote the above review. So it should be considered a much better value right now.

This charger is perfect for you Rayovac rechargeable batteries. It does have indicator lights that give the status of the charge. I like the older style better that red LEDs since they turned off when the charge was complete. This changes the indication (steady to flashing). The batteries get quite hot when charging, but this is normal. The Rayovac rechargeables are super batteries. They hold their charge in the camera or device as well as in a zip lock bag inside my camera bag unlike other NiCd type batteries. I only use these types of batteries now in my Canon i5is and the associated Canon flash, and I also use them in a set of noise canceling headphones (AAA). The storage lifetime and use lifetime is exceptional. The charger can charge AAA or AA and even paired mixes of each kind (e.g., 2 x AAA and 2 x AA).

The batteries last for a while. They charge pretty quickly too. The only downside is that the charger itself and the batteries connect pretty loosely. It's not a secure connection, so if you hit the charger with the batteries in it, it'll pop out of place.

CTEK 93-56-864 MUS 4.3 Black 12V Battery Charger Review

I have an old Schumacher battery maintainer, a Yuasa SmartStart 1.5, a Pulsetech Xtreme, and the CTEK MUS 4.3.

The Schumacher is just a maintainer/charger. It has no desulphate mode, but works well to keep the battery topped up.

The Yuasa does the same thing, but adds a mediocre desulphate mode. In tsting, I showed that it did bring batteries to a higher state of charge then the Schumacher.

The Xtreme Charge is a powerful tool for desulphating batteries, but it does not do as well as the MUS 4.3 at fully charging a good battery.

The MUS 4.3 has a desulphate mode, but I've never seen it enter that mode, even on a badly abused battery.

I'm currently in the process of attempting to restore a 12V 22 Anp-hour 5 year old AGM battery that was deeply discharged, to under 6v. The Schumacher, Yuasa, and Xtreme all refused to even start on this battery. I had given up on it, and was about to order a replacement, when I decided to try out the MUS 4.3.

When I plugged in the MUS 4.3, it attempted to charge the battery, but then found the battery bad after it dropped to under 12v in 3 minutes, after it attempted to charge the battery. I feel that afew attempts to recharge the battery would probably have done the trick, but it was bed-time, so I figured I'd go back to ol-reliable Xtreme Charge.

I then hooked up the Xtreme Charge, and it began to charge the battery. After letting it sit overnight on the battery, the battery was able to hold over 12V. I decided to leave it on the Xtreme charge another 12 hours, and will attempt a recondition with the CTEK.

I will update later on my progress, but my conclusion so far, is that the CTEK offers features the Xtreme Charge does not have, while the Xtreme Charge offers features the CTEK does not have. Both are top of class chargers. I wish I could somehow combine them into one. If the CTEK would always desulphate, like the Xtreme charge does, I'd pick it over the Xtreme. As is, I'd lean more toward the Xtreme. For cases where it does not want to start charging to to low voltage, one can use a $10 trickle charger to bring the battery up over 11 volts. My trickle charger died though, and I have yet to replace it.

Update:

After leaving the battery that the CTEK said was bad, on the XTreme charge for a week, it now is working well. The Xtreme Charge would not charge the battery before I tried the CTEK on it though.

At this point, if I had to have one battery maintainer, I'd stick with an Xtreme Charge and get a $10 trickle charger for truly dead batteries, to get them up to where the Xtreme Charge will charge them.

That said, I'm happy to have the CTEK, in addition to the Xtreme Charge as the different modes the CTEK has can come in handy.

Update 2:

I have a car with a year old battery that stopped accepting a charge. This car sits a lot, but is kept on one of my battery maintainers when it is sitting for long periods.

After several months of driving it every day, it stopped accepting a full charge. It got to the point where I was keeping it on the Xtreme charge at night, but it still would barely start the car at the end of the day. I checked the alternator and it was fine. I was almost ready to buy a new battery when I decided to give the CTEK a try.

I set the CTEK to recondition mode, and it spent several hours charging the battery. The next morning, the engine fired up with gusto. That evening, after sitting at work all day, it fired up with gusto again, and the next morning and evening as well.

The CTEK just paid for itself once more. At this point, I feel like both chargers, the CTEK, and the Xtreme, definitely have there own niches. I am glad I have both.

Some info you might find helpful when considering this product:

What's in the package:

o The CTEK 56-864 MUS 4.3 Charger with 6' AC & 12V leads permanently attached.

o Clip leads similar to the CTEK 56-384 Comfort Indicator Clamp, but with no indicator. They're 16.75" long and the clips open to a maximum of 1".

o Ring terminal leads similar to the CTEK 56-260 Comfort Connect 1/4" Eyelet , but with a 15A in-line blade fuse. These have M6 / 1/4" rings and are also 16.75" long

o A manual in English, French and Spanish.

o A lightweight fabric bag with a how-to graphic on it.

o Adhesive side labels in French and Spanish for the charger

Shipping: My unit was shipped in a retail display cardboard box. +1 for not so much packaging in cardboard, -1 for potential damage to the unit during shipment through the plastic display window in the box.

Operation:

o Attach to battery, plug in, select mode, wait.

o Unit restarts in same mode as when last plugged in. Startup delay is a couple seconds.

o Unit restarts charge cycle when modes changed or battery is dis-, then reconnected.

Initial reaction: Nice! The unit brought our 6 and 8-year old flooded-cell auto batteries from 12.36V to a full charge of 12.6+V, stepping through the charging stages (@ 14.35V during the absorption stage) to float @ 13.55V. Voltages were measured on the battery terminals with a Fluke 115 DMM.

Things that could be better:

o The indicators are hard to see in sunlight.

o The AC cord is overkill. It's stiff & I found it "wags the dog", shifting the charger around as one plugs it in or moves the cord

o A rubber case or end bumpers would be nice, both protecting the unit and keeping it from slipping around as much during use.

I have two CTEK 3300s and love them. A CTEK representative encouraged me to get the 4.3 and I regret my decision. Not only is it at least $25 more than the 3300, the cables are shorter and there is no OFF button. That means 1) it won't work in all my cars because the distance between the positive battery clamp and the chassis ground is too far for the shorter cables and 2) you get that nice SPARK when plugging it in. The 3300 has both a longer cable for the positive/negative clamps and an off button. I personally HATE sparks anytime I'm dealing with a battery. Of note, the 4.3 does have a battery recondition mode which I suppose is nice if you have completely depleted a battery as well as a better indicator of what it is doing. Still, I wish I would have just bought another 3300.

UPDATE 01/04/2013: I still don't like the fact that there is a small spark when you plug this in, HOWEVER. I have now reconditioned two batteries AND the price is similar now to the 3300. So given the choice, I would live with the small spark and shorter cables in order to have the recondition mode. My BMW battery was giving a discharge warning recently (a known issue on new BMWs) and I gave it a recondition over the weekend and have not seen the error since.

Ok so it isnt the cheapest pannel of this type and size that you can get, you already know that.

so what is different about it? how well does it work?

Unlike some other epoxy covered PCB mounted solar cell items this one is much lighter, it is not a thick coat epoxy style.

this makes it much better for portability.

when weight is important this mid sized multicell pannel was a good choice.

and if your worried about it getting scratched, you can put a very thin piece of vinyl on top (often sold at the wallymart for a few bucks for a whole yard) that will cut output about 5-8% and makes it impervious.

the one i got speced out correctally, the array in there doesnt waste a lot of space , like some arrays with too much gap between cell items.

I put this one on top of a GPS device with an acrylic hinge, and connected a diode and a protection curcuit to use it to charge a oversized battery in the unit. it now forms 3 functions.

1) charges the unit. if it sits inside on the window sil and catches a bit of light, the unit is now self sustaining for minor use. If i put it outside it could fully charge the FAT oversized 5amp li-poly cell in 2 days of brutal california sun. If i go walking with it in the sun, it runs the gps unit non-stop forever :-)

the hinge allows it to be aimed into the sun, and to shade the battery/unit.

2) caps the screen, via the hinge when i close the unit up it is now the top cap covering the screen. not the most durable cover i could put over the screen , but the most funtional one :-)

3) Is a Sun hood , or shade, so when gpsing in the sun it keeps the unit charged and the sun off the unit at the same time.

connections on these were at the "ends" of course to get power off the cell items, and the back of the PCB there is foil traces bringing the power to the Center of the pannel for a good location for connection.

probably be good for solar charger , and solar car projects and lots of other stuff you can think of.

lightweight, still good quality glass cell items, assembled at the voltage as speced.

that about covers it. It did not dissapoint.

charge really fast, faster than you would expect it too. its nice cus you can change the adapter type so if you need it for something else you can just get another adapter. but yeah it hooks in just right to the headphones so they wont fall also if youre charging and running, the charger will actually stay on so thats good too. doesnt look cheap and wont overheat at all.

I've been using it for over a week now and it really works well. I'm a Master Technician for over 27 years and this is a primary use tool that will do almost everything I need. The battery life is good and I can swap out on the fly having the second one that's in the kit. It will take off most lug nuts and engine bolts. Most of the techs in the shop use IR tools this is my first cordless IR. I'm very pleased with it so far.

I was super excited to try out the new IR cordless tool line. I'm a heavy duty tech for a living working my cordless tools pretty hard between shop work and service calls. These are the first IR cordless tools I've owned. All of my other cordless stuff was Snap-On. I really didn't like my newer Snappy cordless 1/2" (new lith-ion one) and wanted to make a change. I decided to sell my cordless Snap-on tools and make the move over to IR. The 1/2" has been excellent, but doesn't seem as beefy compared to the Snap-On. It's a great value buy compared to the Snap-on unit. The 3/8" was great out of the box, but I ran into an issue. Sometimes after hammering away the hammers/anvil seem to lock up in the front nose. A pull of the trigger will leave the gun lifeless. I have to manually move the anvil around to "free" things up and it will be fine for a while. The gun is still under warranty so I'll have to send it in and see what happens. I had 3 years of trouble free service of my 14.4 Snap-on cordless 3/8" impact and was let down by the IR being only a few months old. Maybe there was a bad batch out there or something??? Either way I think they are a great gun for the money and hopefully IR will take care of my "bad" 3/8" gun.
